I have noticed that if I set the video resolution on the back camera in the stock camera app to 4k 60fps, the image isn't zoomed in, just cropped from 4:3 to 16:9. However, selecting 4k 30 fps a small zoom in can be noticed. The lower you go in the video resolution settings, the more zoomed in the image is compared to taking a photo.
Steps to check:
1. Set video resolution.
2. Line up side of viewfinder in photo mode with a measurable object, observe the amount you can see. Now long press the video capture button to switch to the video mode preview while keeping the phone in the same place. Observe how much less of the object can be seen.
3. Change resolutions and repeat step two.
I've found 4k 60fps to not be zoomed in at all, every other resolution I tested was zoomed in to some degree. I guess all my video with be buttery smooth and super clear, but they take up so much space!
Can anyone else try this and report, or has anyone else encountered this yet? It is really bothering me that I can't use the whole sensor at 1080 60fps (with it being down scaled to 1080 before writing to storage).

Why when recording video at Full HD the angle of view changes ?
The higher the video resolution the narrower the field of view becomes.
Of course the lens is prime so is it using only the center of the sensor ?

A thought I made was that because the lens is prime it crops from the center of the sensor for HD video. But what's the reason to do something like this? Easier CPU processing ?

I don't know about the screen but I am glad they silence the camera's shutter sound when the phone is at silent mode with the new official update.
There was someone that enabled a no-zoomed mode in the camera app. But that made you lose 720p recording, as he had to change the 720p mode into 1080p "wide" recording. Maybe someone knows what I'm talking about and has the apk for you.

Why not recording full hd video at wide and zooming in (like the camera does) when ever you want ... maybe because this means that the phone has to capture video at 8 megapixel and then downgrade it at Full HD. So this must be more CPU demanding.
Probably the phone records video at 1920x1080 using the center of the sensor. Capturing only the center of the sensor does the zoom effect. I cant think another reason why loosing the wide angle.
The narrow field of view is useful in some cases (maybe outside) but recording inside rooms everything is very close...

I wonder if its possible to record without the camera to zoom. Apparently photo and video is 2 different cameras and then you start to record it will zoom in but if you are using snapchat it wont zoom in when youre recording so it might be possible. Anybody with some good ideas?
It's all in the aspect ratio. Photos are captured in 4:3 aspect ratio, videos are 16:9 so it ends up being a cropped image from the sensor. Snapchat probably uses a different resolution that the native camera app doesn't support.
You could set your photo aspect ratio to 16:9 then you wouldn't see a difference when switching to video mode, but you're also reducing the megapixel count by doing so

if you long press on the record button, it will zoom at the beginning of the long press, but will not start recording until you release the long press. that gives you time to preview the zoom and frame the shot before you begin recording.
So tonight I noticed in video mode at 1080p 60fps there is a bit of an issue. The video is clear at 1.0x regular zoom but once you switch to wide angle at 0.6x the video is all blurry and not very focused. Once you go back to 1.0x it's better again. Any other resolution wide angle is fine. Just the 60fps I notice this. Anyone else?

As far as I have noticed, the wide angle lens displays the same issue in video mode no matter what video mode you choose.
In addition, if you shake abruptly the phone while taking video on any video mode, apart from the 1080p 60fps at 1.0x, video gets unreasonably blurry and jittery.
When recording at 1080p 60fps the video is quite zoomed in, or is it just me?
Am yes, it's blurry with the wide lens. Video does seem to be anything but good on this phone.
I don't know about that exact issue, but the 'jelly effect' is absolutely horrifying on video I have casually taken. I am stuck on .146 though, supposedly there were various camera improvements with .187+?

Not for me it didn't
So, I've just noticed that the video shooting is really cropped in..
Its like it zoomed in alot..
Its in every camera lens like that, respectedly.. so the wide lens video is about the same as the normal lens at photos..
I guess the reason for that is because the original sensor is built for 4:3 aspect ratio and the video mode is 16:9 so it crops out the edges..
In settings, all the resolution options are 16:9 (or worse 18:9)..
Is there any way to get the full wide angle view in video?
I don't care about aspect ratio (any way its going to instagram and gets ruined )
I have been playing around with options to burst photos whilst taking a video. Using the default camera app on my honor view phone, when taking a video the photo button appears to be doing nothing more than taking a screenshot of the current video frame.
Taking a still photo with photo mode selected produces a nice and crisp image.
Taking a photo during video recording generates a fuzzy image which is no better than screenshotting the video during playback.
Can anyone else confirm or deny this behaviour on another devices?
