Huawei Flip Cover - Huawei MediaPad M5 Accessories

While waiting for the keyboard cover (I got it "free" for buying the tablet at launch) I ordered this and received it today.
A little on the heavy side (I think around 250gr), protects the tablet and screen. Sturdy fold system for having the tablet stand up horizontally (for movie watching, I guess), no way that I can understand to have the tablet slightly raised for typing on touchscreen when not using the "real" keyboard. Screen cover turns on the device but with fingerprint id unlocking is kind of useless quite frankly. There's a magnet to ensure the cover stays closed.
Look is understated, with a "bas relief" Huawei logo in the bottom right corner. You can see pictures here:

How slim would you say this is? I currently have an aging Sony Z3 Compact tablet and have ordered the M5 as replacement.
When I first purchased the Z3C tablet I found all the 3rd party covers to be a bit on the bulky side. But when I finally got hold of the original Sony SCR28 cover - it was considerably slimmer than the 3rd party ones.
So, I am wondering if I should just get a cheap 3rd party cover from Amazon or hold out for the official Huawei one....

Flip cover
What do you think about this flip cover? http://s.aliexpress.com/UJ3YbIzE?fromSns
I think it's well done because it leaves the pogo pins uncovered so if you have to connect the tablet to the keyboard you do not have to detach it from the flip cover

gorman42,
Are you using flipcover with a stock room?
I found turnoff/turn on feature does not work with custom rom and interested to know other people experience.
I installed carbon rom.
Also do you have any reaction when you flip cover from front to back ?
I found magnet sensor reacts on that and triggers false positive

Does anyone make a cover like this?

My friend has an iPad with a cover that just protects the screen then folds back to create a stand.
I think this is the one. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple&#...lack/2343263.p?id=1218323503891&skuId=2343263
Anything like this for the Transformer?
Doubt it. It's what makes the ipad 2 unique. Something like that would require you to glue the cover onto the transformer. On the ipad2, everything is connected on by magnets.
Wow, that case is $70!!! Crazy.
And yes, if your only criteria is "a cover that just protects the screen then folds back to create a stand" there are plenty of options for the Transformer. A couple which just came out! Check out the threads around here:
1) rooCase (June 30 release): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134948

The thing is, it's not even a case. And its priced so high because its an official Apple product.
When my wife had an iPad2, I got her one to try out.
A joke of a product.
I'm no Apple fan but I'd love to have a smart case my Transformer. Saw my buddy's ipad2 smart case and it was super slick.
It's pretty mad. Turns of the screen when the cover is down and also lifts up dust particles and clears fingerprints (I think). Fantastic cover.
Shutting off the screen wouldn't be a huge problem on the Transformer, you can easily do it yourself with a magnet (but only when docked). Just grab a magnet and hold it close to the screen, right about the place where the "=+"-hardware-key would hit the screen and it turns off. As soon as you remove the magnet, it'll turn on. Only problem (for now), it works only when docked. When undocked you can turn on the screen with a magnet, but not turn it off. But I guess that's just a software-thingy and that's moddable.
You can always make use of the light sensor. Just make it automaticly turn the screen off when it detects complete blockage. Though that might be a problem if you try to use it in the dark... (might not since there's still "invisible" light (UV, IR etc) at night). Depends on the sensor that's on the TF and how sensitive it is though.
I got this case. It stands, and it can also detach the EEE Pad from the rest of the case. I really like this because, sometimes, I don't feel like hold the whole case or using the stand. Gotta love technological advances . This company has brown and black. I got my case two days later, and I didn't pay extra in shipping.

MiTab Folio Case for Prime (UK/US)

Found this on amazon - Seems nice and I quite like it:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Portfolio-K...H9TG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1331229951&sr=8-4
Questions:
(1) Has anyone bought this and what is it like?
(2) It says "...case fits with and without docking keyboard..." - The wording is little confusing, does it actually come with the docking cover too, or just for the tab? for the price+wording I imagine it would be just for the tab, but the pictures seem to say otherwise?
and I cannot find it being reviewed on the internet.
Ive not got that exact one but i got this: (arrived today)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Leather-Por...BF9I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1331233211&sr=8-2
Same brand and photos - mine came with the keyboard cover too.
the prices are the same so i would "expect" that the one you linked just comes witha screen protector aswell but im not entirely sure. Id ask the seller first.
For the MiTAB case in general one thing that worries me is the amount of leather in-between the tab and keyboard at the hinge end, it is a VERY tight fit and I'm a bit worried it might damage the hinge when closed, can anyone else confirm if they have tried one and if it has caused any damage over time?.
My main concearn is that while sitting in a bag and getting squashed all the pressure is put on the hinge. Plus attaching the tab to the keyboard half requires an uncomfortable amount of pressure.
Quality wise its fairly good, mine has navitech branding on it, and the leather around the bezel isnt too weak, I dont love the way the case cover overhangs when using the tablet alone and the camera port on the back doesnt line up perfectly.
I can take some photos if you want.
@funkus
Yeah, it looks like they are from the same seller.
After going through the forum, from what I can gather:
(1) All of the prime cases (dock+tab) have that tight fight at the hinge area.
(2) Misaligned openings-port/etc.
The reasons why I am keen to get one for both dock/tab are:
(1) There had been reports where prime's screen cracked/fractures because of undue stress when it's in the 'lid-close' position - especially around the hinge areas where there are no rubber stops.
--> So I thought by getting the dock cover, the piece of leather strip at/overlying the corners of the hinge end will provide some cushions when 'lid' is closed.
(2) But now you mentioned that the fit is very tight around the hinge area.
--> There had been reports in here that the dock came apart around the hinge area when the latch rotates with tab docked. It appears only minority suffers from this issue. But again, given the QC issue(s) with prime, I wonder if it is worth taking the chance. I imagine this tight fit will slowly loosen whatever the mechanical parts involved around that area.
Temptation right now is, given that it is cheap, is probably to get it and then sand down/trim the leather over the tight fit areas.
Your description is graphical enough and thanks for sharing the review.
Another question for you: How long did it take for the order to arrive? And was it normal or express delivery?
Sanding the leather around the hinge down might be a good idea but you'd need to be careful not to break the stitching on the leather.
To add to the negatives the overhang on the cover is a bit annoying when just using the tablet case half it hangs over the tablet by 1 inch.
I used express delivery and ordered it Wednesday in the morning, came in early afternoon Thursday.
Damages the Device!!
FYI: I've decided to stop using the case - I think its bent the socket for the screen half so now the tablet wobbles in place and sometimes doesn't charge from the keyboard until i move it about.
I wouldn't advise anyone to get this. Left a review to same effect on the amazon product page.

[Q] smart cover/smart sleep?

Hi,
Cant remember where I read that the sony case itself as well as several non-sony ones would support smart cover (when you flip open, the screen comes on without you touching it) and smart sleep (goes to sleep when you close the cover). Sort of like a ipad function. I have the sony original case for tablet z and I cant the 2 features to work.
any ideas? thanks

i've this one and works perfect for me with the smart sleep function. It's great quality.
I know the Sony official case woleeps/wakes fine out of the box with no changes needed to settings. I returned it to frys though because it wasn't worth $90 with tax in my opinion.

Yeah I think it is supposed to have those features, sounds like a faulty case to me. I was thinking about getting this case, but decided to save some money and just got a sleeve that also turns into a stand. Would be more practical for me anyway, I don't like cases.

I just tested the smart functionality using my Sony case (the red one). It works as far as I can tell: It wakes the screen when you open the cover and puts it to sleep when the cover is shut.
It's an elegant cover. But I agree that it's too expensive for what it is. I use it on my commute to work. I've read complaints that it's too bulky. It does not seem so to me, and it's pretty easy to take the XTZ out of the case when I get to my office.
Disable function
Is there a way to disable this function? Thanks
Out of curiosity, how does it work at all? Is it simply working through the light sensor, i.e. when its covered and pitchdark it assumes cover closed and goes to sleep, once ambient light reaches it it wakes up?
Or is it more elaborate than that?

There is a reed switch about an inch left of the front camera. A magnet will activate the switch and cause the tablet to enter Sleep Mode. Removing the magnet will cause the tablet to wake. Many tablet cases have a magnet in their front cover.
@hyann I'm using the Poetic case for my XTZ and the smart wake/lock function works great. It isn't bulky or heavy either and the best part is that you can get it for under $20 USD. It's a well designed case and protects the device really well. Basically the tablet is placed into the matte finished plastic case that's connected to the leather binding.

S-view cover on the note 3 problem!!!

HEY guys i just bought a g note 3 yesterday along with the official s-view cover.
The cover functions in the way as described, but when i fold the cover full towards the back for example i fold it when i text the phones goes in to the s-view mode (like when the cover is closed) note: the cover is still open and folded towards the back of the device.
I would like to know whether this problem is caused by the cover or the phones connectivity with the cover?
Thanks for your help in advance

I used to have a similar problem when I used that case. Instead of going into S-view mode like yours does, mine would do the opposite. When I closed the cover it would show my Home screen through the cover. It sorted itself out eventually. Not sure what causes this though. Sorry I can't really be of any help other than just wait it out, it will probably start working correctly eventually. Your not the only one who has had this kind of issue though.
You should send your cover back under warranty. It is a problem with a magnet on the bottom side of the flip, which in your case is probably too strong.
Don't hesitate, This is a known manufacture problem of a few exemplars, and does not happen in working ones.
Cheers,
K
My s view cover doens't stay shut in most cases. I close it and it opens again - in particular once I opened it completely. Is this normal or are the magnets not strong enough and I should have it exchanged?

Mine does this, too. Not exactly what I expected for that price. But it always closed enough so that s-view was active.

Their are no magnets to keep the case closed. The magnets are there to tell the phone when to enter/exit S-View mode. Case is a good idea, but with it not closing all the way, I took mine back. Waiting on the Spigen S-View case which has a clasp to keep the cover closed. Was just announced and has a shipment date of around the 1st of the year.

[Q] I got a 3rd party case, when I close the cover, it turns off screen.

Thought that was iPad only feature (or maybe some other tablets too).
Sony didn't advertise it and definitely isn't related to light sensor or a proximity sensor.
So is there some magnet that makes it work?
It's not even a Sony case.
Just like most other devices, Xperia Tablet Z has a magnet (in XTZ's case, near the front facing camera) that, when in contact with a case that has another magnet, turns off screen (again, just like almost any other device). If the case has it, it turns off/on.
It is called Smart Cover. Curious fact: the XTZ is so thin that, if you close the official Sony case, and align the tablet like if it was inside the cover, the screen turns off..รง

Ah, thanks.
I am a long time PDA/smartphone (power) user, but never bothered much with tablets until now (to own, not to administer/manage - which I have done much already).
