Mate 10 Pro or HTC U11+ - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

This phone or HTC U11+? My concerns are great point and shoot camera, LTE connectivity (T-Mobile), and ROM development. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated, thanks all!

Dude, really?
I mean, I'm not trying to flame you for your question, but for clarification, imagine i say this?
What's better, a Ford Fiesta or a Ford Mustang? (Even though in my example both are the same parent company)
Do some research and come back and make me proud!

Actually, I'm so happy with my choice i come across as a spokesperson, so here it goes, make it easy for you

Fair, dumping my HTC U11+ and moved to this. Just more going on and I'm enjoying the buttery smooth Rom and connectivity. Then again, a Mustang in the wrong hands.......

I have BLA-L09, European single sim, with yours have you been able to get VoLTE? I might rebrand to gain this feature as I missed it with the U11+.
And I'll ask a follow up question, would you take this over a Pixel 2 XL?

I imagine all phones are stalking us. Huawei has the current spying rep against it but again, all do this, just to what degrees.

A rep is something you have earned. Huawei hasn't earned anything as that's unfounded; how convenient! When you factor in Huawei's current might and abilities in contrast to the US counterparts (and I'm not talking Apple (because, as we all know, Samsung is Korean, but I'm thinking more like Qualcomm, at&t, etc (each in its respective covered fields)

Yes, they're all doing it, and it's not gonna go away, but i don't see Huawei losing battle after antitrust violation battle in EU, of course, because Stateside, they're each other's buddies (u.s. government and Google)...
Now that would make concrete evidence against Huawei, too bad THEY DON'T HAVE ANY

back to htc's facebook page!!!

ok, since we bombarded them over the source releases, I think in all decentcy we should return to say thanks. It's easy to picket and raise hell, so we should at least go clap our hands, they could of easily given us the big finger.
What is it i'm thanking them for again?

At first I read this and agreed 100%. Then as I gave it more thought I realized that would be like a teacher thanking their student for doing their homework or you thanking your mechanic for fixing your car...that's what they are supposed to do...legally required to do (lets not start that whole 'GPL wiggle room' meme again)...and they did it late.
I'm glad they did, I'm not sure if the facebook assault had anything to do with it, but I'm not sure they deserve a thank you for doing what they are required to do.
Just checked and my phone still says no updates available.

Apparently you don't know what 'Source' is...
This doesn't mean they have an update for you to download, it means that they released a copy of their kernel.
They only release the source because they are required too not because we asked them. If that was the case well you know the story.

Lol! I totally thank my mechanic when he fixes my car. You thank people when they do things that you appreciate regardless of whether or not its something you're paying them to do. Its Just plain good taste. But yeah, I agree with the OP. Whenever anyone opens their source its a good tying. It allows endeavors like the XDA community to keep on deving.

The simple fact is, they didn't have to do anything. Do you honestly believe we have rights as consumers? I mean really? Do I feel I owed them a thank you?, no. Is it a decent thing to do after the fact?,yes. They gave it to us sooner rather then later, or even at all for that matter. Human decentcy is a funny thing lately in this country, but whatever.

Back down there sparky...I believe I phrased my reply to indicate that I was indeed on the fence with the idea. I'm not laboring over my decision but I want to give it thought. The kernel source is subject to the rules of the GPL. They paid nothing for it and only have to abide by the rules of the license. One of those rules is that the source code must be made available (within a certain amount of time? I keep hearing 30 days but I'm not so sure).
I guess I just used poor analogies. You don't thank someone for not robbing your house...do you?
That said, in the name of fairness (and human decency...towards a corporation that has already demonstrated a desire to screw us as much as we will allow?) I'm still considering my stance.

I appreciate all the work that is done here, and I'm sorry that I cant contribute to that work. I wasn't calling out everybody here, most people didnt hit their page, but those of us that did, I felt a simple thanks would be good in the long term future. You know, maybe the evo3, instead of them being like **** those guys that spammed us last year and never came back, they may be like, hey lets get them the goods again, all the thanks looked good on our fb page. Social networking has given us power, much more than the old 800 number, simply because all complaints and gratitudes are in the public view of the world. Plus as a species thats struggling, again, simple decentcy is refreshing, and whats wrong with that?

When I first read the post I didn't read all the words like I said. I missed the part about the source code.
People just aren't as appreciative as they used to be. Thats what I think mostly America has become. I do get enough thanks for what I do and thats why I keep doing it. I know people like it even though they don't always show it.
I actually talked to HTC this morning and the first words out of my mouth were that I love their phones and what they do.

That's pretty compelling...in the short run. In the long run I would hope that you are proven correct and it's certainly worth a shot. If they don't learn from this, well, we can always attack them again.
I think I just might give them a thanks. All of that positive PR would surely help convince them to do the same in the future.
Well I stopped by their Facebook to say thanks as soon as they posted it. I hit them up in a polite way every day asking for it, so I felt that I wanted to thank them for doing it in a timely matter. Other companies and phones take much longer. Now, if I still had my OG EVO, I would not have thanked them for releasing today. I mean when did the GB update for the OG EVO come out? And they are just releasing it today? This is my opinion, not that anyone asked for it.

Made It...now, the waiting...
The petition made it's goal:
http://www.androidauthority.com/phone-unlocking-petition-goal-159064/
Now comes the waiting (like Tom Petty said, It's the Hardest Part).
This must be technically akin to what people with a history of cancer feel like while waiting for their own biopsy results.
Crossing my digits here, that was such a dumb, insensitive, openly 'corporate-paid' law...too quickly passed, too.
Nobody needs a chastity belt for their smartphone--it negates the intrinsic 'smart' of the phone itself, even!
How many people enjoy the freedom to change their mind on anything? How many dealerships will turn away repair work on another brand car?
Right now, this law is actually the worst kind of thing for U.S. trade, even...precisely timed as we discover how obsessed the Chinese government is with our trade secrets rather than even our military ones...
How can we compete with that, when they will not only be able to manufacture Android phones from any designs they might 'come across', as well as make them with any OS they please, at half any current U.S. prices? I'm sure AT&T, in all their wisdom, has a plan for that, though, should it ever even happen (beginning with scoffing).
No, they probably have vested interests already buying stock in generic Chinese phone manufacturing plants, themselves...
hmm...
After fulfilling a contract, shouldn't our ESN's be unlocked to be used on any cdma carrier? Where's that petition?

Z4v Officially Dead in the Water

Yep, hoping the Z5 Premium and actually has two day battery life.

I will say, that gave me a pretty good chuckle.
This is probably a stupid question but any guesses what Sony and or Verizon are going to do with all the Z4v's that were built? It would be nice if they offered us fans some sort or special buy. It's not like any other carrier is going to sell them right?
VZW makes so much off of gouging their customers they (VZW) just trashes them, we, the consumer, will pay for them in the end.
They call this kind of scam "progress" and "necessary".
I may just stick to the nexus devices after putting up with all of this

Nexus 6P with Snapdragon 820/4GB Possibly in the works?

Haven't seen this posted at all... Figured I'd start up a thread on it.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/New-...-Snapdragon-820-4GB-RAM-and-Android-N_id80593
To be honest, I find it quite odd. At this point I wonder if it's just for testing purposes. I can't see this being released in the middle of the original Nexus 6P, and HTC's end of year Nexus. Maybe it isn't much effort to take the same phone, swap out the CPU and add Memory if that's all they're doing.
I can see the Nexus 6P 810/3GB dropping to $399, and 820/4GB starting at $499 *if* they proceed to release this to public. Then again, that could hurt their late year phone release if those specs aren't going to be much greater.
Thoughts, comments?
it's too far. I mean, htc is new choice for Google (probably)
but maybe Huawei make some device like n6p and s820 & 4G ram with name like Huawei p7! or something like that! because Chinese company have a great benefits from n6p and this make sense.

It might actually be happening according to this article: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (S820) vari...ant-of-nexus-6p-listed-on-geekbench-20160428/
And it seems they are giving some of the same reasons that I gave as to why it might be being made.
It's sad that the 6P is suffering real issues and they are sidestepping responsibility by releasing another phone. If they don't take care of current 6P owners who are experiencing issues by offering them this phone for free, that will leave a bad taste in my mouth for Google and Huawei.
It should be a 6P 2016 Model.
I don't find it far fetched at all, that there's in all likelihood a successor phone to the 6P from Huawei, still under Google's "umbrella".
Google has done this previously with other devices, maybe now they're doing incremental updates to their smartphone options.
I will buy this phone if this appears to be true. A perfect phone.

I think it's highly unlikely that they put out a 820 version of the 6P.

The truth hurts, eh? They are non-issues because you don't have them? Good way of thinking. They are real issues that some people are having, the article isn't pulling the issues out of thin air.
And it's you that I'm having a hard time believing. People simply aren't making up these issues but you still don't believe it while it's so black and white.
Usually phones that show up on Geekbench end up a reality. I'm sure you will be the one who says they are releasing a new version of the phone so they can put a Snapdragon 820 in it. Which they simply wouldn't spend the time and money on just to do that. There definitely are deeper issues to make them spend the time and money to release this phone.
People who already spent their hard earned cash on a 6P will have a hard time believing or admitting it, but that's obviously happening here.
So who's the dramatic one here? I'm posting links of what's actually happening and you keep saying the same thing over and over denying the multiple issues that this phone has. Just because these issues aren't affecting you doesn't mean they aren't real. Just because you don't have cancer doesn't mean it isn't real. Same general idea. It is real, it just doesn't affect everyone.
Good luck with your 6P.
P.S. This is obviously going nowhere and it just leads to fights, so I'm just gonna leave this alone as is. I've said my piece and I know this phone isn't guaranteed to come out. Good luck to you all and I hope Google and/or Huawei takes care of you if this is true. Peace.

If I had a nickel for every time you said you were done and leaving this alone.
After a bit of thinking about it. It may not be Nexus branded, but released the same time as the next Nexus device.
Huawei probably won't be receiving source code as early as HTC will for their Nexus devices. If this is the case, I'd say expect the Huawei 6P's successor with this 820/4GB to not receive updates as quick as this one. That's my best guess right now.

You posting links of random rumours and taking it for a fact, what are you even rambling about? And what does that have to do with anything anyway? Just because someone releases updated version of the phone it means it was defected? What about galaxy a5, a9? Each year a new one with better cpu, were they defected? Were samsung tablets with same name defected? Your logic is non existant here. And just because you hate the phone doesnt mean its bad. Just because you had a defected one doesnt mean its bad build quality. By your logic every single smartphone in the market is defected, because there are few users with problems lol. Galaxy s7 had gaps between chassis and glass, home button is scratching very easy, some users had grounding issue where recent apps would press by itself because finger was touching bottom of phone. So because there were few users with problems means galaxy s7 is flawed and broken device, and if samsung releases s8 it means they are silently admitting build issues? Thats your logic, read that and undestand how ridiculous it is.

True that, but for real this time lol. We will all see if this ends up being true so it will speak for itself. If it's not true then I will gladly accept that since I don't want to see current 6P owners get the shaft. [emoji106]

Peace.

LOL - what are you even on about? Putting words in my mouth doesn't help prove your point. I've never said people aren't experiencing real issues (like they do with any device), and I've admitted that I think the bending/twisting/whatever is something that shouldn't be happening. But again, you're exaggerating and being overdramatic.
The article you're referring to like it's some damning write-up on nexus 6P issues - mentions (4) issues - let's have a look:
Easily bent
Spontaneous cracking of the glass visor
Low volume
Video playback problem
...which the article states right after listing those that "We know most of them have been fixed already".
How many of those are issues are plaguing users? Please elaborate on all these huge nexus 6P issues - I'd like to see your list.
You're basing your argument on an article that named four issues then said that most of them were fixed. And three of them have hardly been posted about in this forum or anywhere I've seen.
And I'm not sure about the whole geekbench thing. When have they ever put a nexus variant out like this? I guess we'll see. I'd welcome it, it'd give me another option.

[PETITION] Unlock Bootloader for N950U !

All of us Snapdragon Note 8 users know it's a long shot, but it's worth the try... Let your voice be heard and Samsung to surrender! Please take a minute to vote, all is appreciated!
https://www.change.org/p/samsung-un...m_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition
0% chance of this working. But I'll sign anyway.
You'll probably have better luck with a bootloader unlock bounty.

Thanks for the support, and what's the main difference between a bounty and petition? (On XDA at least?) How will it do us better?
*Edit*
Okay, a bounty involves donations, which does seem more attractive to Samsung, but I'm not sure how to set up donation links, secure payment, etc.... If someone does and makes a thread, that'll be cool too.

No problem!
A petition is for Samsung, a bounty is for hackers.
**UPDATE**
We're now over 100 signatures in! Thanks to all who have signed already! If you haven't already, a minute of your time would greatly be appreciated to sign the petition. Thanks to all Note 8 users!

It is hopeless- that is why I dumped my US model and bought international s7e. I have both s8 port and early oreo ROM on it.

I would I paid off my phone, but it's too much of a hassle for me to sell it and find a new one. I'm broke and still in school? I had an Exynos A5 2016 before this and definitely going for Exynos next time around

Signed. Doubtful, but hopeful. I don't know the rules around it but I feel like setting up a community bounty and seeing who would be willing to chip in might be a bit more effective. I feel like the Snap Note 8 community is pretty sizable to sum up enough of a bounty to attract some capable hackers to put some time in.
Signed I'm sure it won't matter but at least we tried right? Hopefully someone can eventually bust this thing wide open would be a nice phone to do whatever we want on it. MAN why did I go back to the AT&T route instead of international unlocked?
Signed.
Later than sooner, i wont say it's impossible, but for sure damn near. It's about forums and private site's, (US) who will make it possible. I've been programming for a little over 20 years although a different kind, CNC programming. Ive taken apart many phones including the note 8. Making a custom removable back cover is easy but when it comes down to analyzing every part in the phones. G-code was my first programming language to ever learn but 20 years later ive come to understand many languages. I'm just one part of a large group of people, each with a different set of skills. If anyone know's how to read a blueprint or schematics, or have a knowledge of how qualcomm bootloaders work in general on the note 8 specifically. sorry if this not the right place to post, ive been aware of the forum for long, signed up when the s8 came out. I want to contribute, just never have thought saying thing here as i havnt seen anything about custom modifications so the physical parts.
Signed still haven't lost faith

So to be clear, a petition shows a desire by the community to change something. Even if you got 10,000 signatures. Thats a small small slice of the pie for Samsung.
Bounties are to give individuals that may have the know how to achieve a goal, some incentive to do so via monetary compensation. I highly doubt a company like samsung or any large publicly traded company would even acknowledge a bounty and Im sure there are some legal rules against doing so. Not to mention they stand to make more money from NOT unlocking the bootloader and compromising knox than they stand to make from a bounty on xda..
If this bootloader is to ever be unlocked it will be by a team of code breakers as it took a team of coders to create this bootloader I'm sure. The bounty has to be a lot higher. Maybe there's a way of hard wiring through the eeprom and recoding the bootloader. I knew someone who did that to recode the mileage on a new odometer without going to the car dealer but I guess that's rookie stuff compared to this.
only a bounty on XDA would even make it ever so slightly possible; some talented folks have tried since day 1 without success..
petition to Samsung? now THATS funny!
They could care less about any sort of petition to make their devices less secure..
Signed,
I hope that the snapdragon variant does get an unlocked bootloader, but I would be extremely surprised if that ever happened. It is all completely under control of the US carriers as they are the driving force that causes the bootloader to remain locked. I originally had a Canadian SM-N950W and after being annoyed by how I couldn't do what I want with my own hardware that I shelled out a pretty penny for, I recently bought a SM-N950F from Amazon and sold the W. I think that's probably everyone's best way to go. Voting with your wallet is the only way to solve such problems. Although, since there is a large majority of users who have the snapdragon models who don't care to root, I don't see it making a huge difference in the long run.

Wallet is only way to vote unfortunately. Why would they ever unlock this when the note 4 is still locked? Eol phone and they don't unlock it, reason being then you wouldn't buy the new model. This will never happen, I'm sorry.
Note 8 killed my Samsung loyalty. All previous tv's phone etc. Never again.
