Hi everyone,
A couple months ago I switched over to T-Mobile. I bought my V30 from AT&T and got it unlocked after switching to T-Mobile.
Apparently Android Oreo 8.0 is rolling out to AT&T V30s but when I check for updates no updates are available. Is there any way I can get my phone to update now that I'm on T-Mobile?

If you can get your hands on an active att sim card, or from one of its MVNOs. That is how I updated my lg gpad. I put an h2o sim card and the next day the nougat update was already loaded. Other than that all I can think of is flashing the firmware.

I had an AT&T sim in my LG-H931 (that is unlocked and has been running on T-Mo since I got it) for about an hour on Saturday with no luck. For what it is worth, I am still on the September security patch, so at the very least I would have expected to see an update to that right away.
I may be unhappily stuck on 7.1.2 unless someone else figures out a trick.

I'm in the same boat, a firmware file that we could flash though bridge would probably fix it, but I haven't found any firmware files for the H931 Oreo anywhere =/

I bought ATT prepaid card hoping that it will prompt the update with no luck so far.
Considering flashing but like previous poster said , I could not find update file for H931 ATT oreo.
Switching from Apple btw and I wish I did it a long time ago, love it!

There's long been an "update" with this. You convert the H931 to open market US998 and flash the latest KDZ. See the Frankenstein thread. I post latest US998 KDZ whenever they are released.

Sorry Chaz, I hope it is okay for me to post it here. I noticed your name on most LG V30 posts and I know you are probably the best person to ask. First of all I wanted to thank you for providing the instruction for the flashing. I really thought I bricked my phone for a couple times. Here is what I did:
1. Wrongfully ran the flashing not in donwload mode - was not able to turn on the phone.
2. Panicked, followed instruction to master reset.
3. I went back to download mode, Flash US998 Nougat.
4. For some reason it could not go pass the setup (keep restarting).
5. Went to Download Mode - Flash Upgrade to Oreo US988. Stable.
6. I think I was successful as I was able to restore my data and the phone works.
One question..probably a stupid one as I am new android user, but I noticed the User Interface is really different , I believe this is what they referred as a "stock" Oreo? It is useable but the UI is really basic. See the attached link:

You're welcome! You've now successfully Frankensteined your phone to open market US998. Let me try to answer your questions...
As you admitted in step 1, you didn't follow the instructions. But also in step 4 you didn't... Luckily you survived it! Especially in step 4 -- between US998 Nougat and US998 Oreo -- is when you really needed to Master Reset, as that Nougat flash is necessary but very unstable. After Master Reset, then that Nougat is stable and you can continue to flash Oreo.
No, your bootloader is not unlocked, but you are carrier unlocked/SIM card unlocked to use this phone on different carriers.
I'm not sure if you are confusing terminology and are really asking about bootloader unlock? (which is necessary for root) You flashed US998 Oreo 20D, which has the bootloader lock security patch. If you want to unlock bootloader, you would need to temporarily downgrade to Oreo 20A or 20B first and run the instructions in the WTF thread... You could root, then update back to newest firmware after bootloader unlock. I'm only mentioning this because you asked about bootloader unlock.
Right now, you now have the open market, carrier unlocked US998 variant -- the one designed to run on all North American carriers. It will run on T-Mobile/MetroPCS quite fine. Lots of T-Mobile users have US998 on T-Mobile. Not only is there no need to flash T-Mobile variant KDZ, but since T-Mobile KDZ has different RSA encryption than all the other North America V30 variants, you'll definitely brick your phone if you try.
You can use "update" for US998 for future updates or you can use simple "upgrade" with full KDZ in the dev patched LGUP when future US998 KDZ are released. Simple "upgrade" in dev patched LGUP does not wipe your data. You had to wipe your data THIS time because you were converting to another model. Now that you are on US998, you can stay there. In the future you can just use "upgrade" for KDZ if you do not receive update prompts. I prefer flashing full image KDZ myself instead of partial image OTA.
The plain look is just the layout and theme choices you've made. (Go into Settings and search for Home and also Theme. ) Plus there's no carrier bloatware on US998. Also Oreo looks a little different, if you're just upgrading from Nougat.
For myself, I use Nova launcher with an icon theme pack to change the look. It has lots of different choices. I prefer a separate app drawer, and I prefer my app drawer have a black background to clearly differentiate it from my desktop. I like the Nova "cube" transition to go to my different desktop screens.

Ok, I believed I did not do master reset from H931 to US998 Nougat but I did master reset from US998 Nougat to US998 Oreo. Now that you mentioned it, that was probably the reason why I succeeded.
Yes I am pretty sure I mixed up terms as I am probably not 100% with the terminologies, my apologies. Thanks for the warning, will definitely not flash T-Mobile variant.

I think the reason I thought the step was not complete was because in the UI, I was not able to move any app shorcut (and widget) on my screen. It is also not arrangeable. Also when I go to App and touch-hold the app icon, there is no option delete it. Is this normal? I went to try different themes and it did not fix the problem. I youtubed LGV30 Oreo and it looks really different from my current phone.

Try Nova launcher.
If that doesn't fix the problem, do a Master Reset and then use dev patched LGUP and DL PARTITION (choose all partitions) the US998 Oreo KDZ over your phone. You may want to do that anyways...

ETA: I think your LG launcher had the "simple mode" option (or whatever it is called) turned on. I am using Nova too, so I am not positive where that setting is.

Anyone else get a notification for an Android system update today? I just received one and haven't clicked it yet...
Added screenshot. Appears to be a security update.
I was under the impression that since my phone is rooted and Bootloader unlocked that I wouldn't receive security updates through play services. Apparently I was incorrect though.
Anyone know if this is safe to install or more specifically if installing it will effect my root status? I've switched back to the LS998 w. 21a update currently.
I installed the security update and all seems ok. I'm not rooted, so there's that also.

You can't install an update without factory recovery.
Yeah I got the notification today too. I wonder if anyones working on repacking the update so it can be flashed in TWRP on unlocked rooted devices.
Side note, is there any way right now to unroot and put stock recovery on to get the update then reflash TWRP and re-root or would you lose the update in the process?

IIRC for this, one needs a KDZ. Since Sprint does updates via FOTA, KDZs don't get released.
Updating requires someone to repack the update. Or flash the US998 KDZ, flash modems, edit APNs.
Last week I flashed my girl phone to sprint21a and forgot to root(flash Magisk)so she update her phone sometime in the last week and today when I tried to play around on her phone it was a no go
No more fastboot even though phone says it's bootloader unlocked .. I'm open to any suggestions .. going to try a few things tomorrow (Don't really care to much cause it's not my phone)

Saw your other reply in the US to LS thread. Oddly enough something weird went down when I was doing that and I flashed the LS version back along with root to get my LTE back, yet my software version still shows up as US. I dunno if that guide just flashed the modems back leaving the software version or if it should have changed the software version back to LS, but I've got a running phone with root and sprint APNs + LTE so I'm happy with it even if the software versions messed up.
Haven't seen any new US998 KDZ files though on xda (or google for that matter). Guess I'll have to wait and see if someone releases a new file that goes past the 99821a that I currently have, as thats the only one that appears to be available right now on here.

Then you haven't looked at all.
We have US998 20D posted here in Development section as both full image KDZ as well as TWRP flashable zipped file.
And 20B before that, as both full image KDZ and TWRP flashable zipped file.
The threads are very active.

20d is the most recent? I did see that earlier (on google, but not here oddly enough) but I had figured that 20d came before 21a. My mistake.

Typo. While 20D is the most recent, 20B was prior, and 20A before that, for US998. 20A is the first (oldest) US998 Oreo KDZ.

This is a bit odd then.. I'm on sprint.. The version I have is US99821a according to the software info page. I had followed JWnSC's thread for restoring LTE bands for sprint. I had the US998 software from your guide installed before flashing over his version. I had assumed that would set the version back to LS99821a but evidently I was wrong. Where exactly would 21a fit into this update timeline?
Assuming 20d is the most recent in this case, would the xda link I posted in my previous reply be the correct one to flash over? And if so, would that mean that JWnSC's files for restoring the LTE bands wouldn't work? I apologize if these questions seem dumb, I'm just trying to wrap my head around all of this.

There is a European H930 21A, but I'm not aware of US998 21A. There may be an LS998 21A, but I don't keep up with Sprint firmware versions...
Go to Settings, About Phone, Software Info, Software version. Tell me what you see?

US99821a. I had assumed JWnSC's guide was going to revert this back to LS but it doesn't appear to have done so, but I have my LTE network restored. I've attached a screenshot of it. For what it's worth the phone's model number shows up as LS998 under the hardware info.

Then there is something really messed up. There's no US998 21A with May 2018 security update. That matches US998 20B.

I'm wondering if something got mislabeled in JWnSC's file then... The file I had flashed to restore LTE and sprint APN's was the sprint 21a (May security patch) linked in his main post on this thread:

I did notice the first time around I was rooting the phone I flashed the sprint 20b image first off, then when I got a notification there was an update available someone else told me to use the 21a zip which was right below the 20b. While I was running 20b both the model and software showed LS after flashing it. Is it possible this is merely a typo somewhere within the 21a zip file?
In any case, should I avoid using the 20d files I found posted by you and westwood24 and then trying to flash the modem bin for sprint LTE over?
The entire reason I brought this up is because I've been getting notifications that theres an update available now for the system. Since I'm rooted and TWRP'd and don't want to lose either of those I figured the only way I could get it was to come back here and find the update file and flash it.
EDIT: after doing some more reading on the sprint specific update that occurred at the same time as the update OP was mentioning, it turns out this update is named LS99822a. As far as I can tell, theres no KDZ or zip files for this specific update on xda, or anywhere else for that matter. So I guess I won't be touching this 20d update or flashing this 22a one whatsoever.

You can flash latest us998 and then flash modem and it will be fine the only thing is that sprint visual voicemail won't work right out the bag and sprint calling plus you won't be able to upgrade prl or profile that the only difference I see but you may or may not use other sprint stuff
If you want to run Sprint's latest and you don't need root you can always update

So aside for the sprint LTE bands and calling plus, theres zero difference between US99820d and LS99822a? If thats the case I might give that a shot. Still havent heard any confirmation if the forum post I linked to a few posts back was the correct update (it's from westwood24, titled US99820D(TWRP).zip) In addition to that I'm not sure how exactly I'd go about obtaining the modem file let alone flashing it. Is it particularly difficult?
What did you end up doing with yours once you downgraded away fro m22a? Did you end up trying to flash US20d over and patching the modem yourself or are you just staying with the 21a built JWnSC did?

Is it particularly difficult?
What did you end up doing with yours once you downgraded away fro m22a? Did you end up trying to flash US20d over and patching the modem yourself or are you just staying with the 21a built JWnSC did?

Thats an impressive setup you have there. You must be pretty damn adept at this kind of thing.
So you just used LGup to put on chazzmatt's zip using the partition DL function and then... I'm sorry, still new to this, what exactly is dirty flashing? Is that flashing the 20d zip file under TWRP or also in lgup? and afterwards you flashed the sprint modem?

Yeah, most new and "mint" (like new) US998 V30+ on the market right now (eBay, even Wal-mart) are former LS998 which have been converted to US998 by 3rd party wholesalers trying to offload excess LS998 V30+ stock. Basically like our Frankenstein but probably done though Octopus box or some mass version of that.

I've noticed they often will convert to US998 but leave on Nougat for some reason. Maybe their Octopus box can't do Oreo for some reason? To me, that's a half-finished conversion! When I do it, I go all the way to Oreo!
Sometimes they will actually claim "US998" in the listing -- while other times they will say "unlocked V30+" but then list the US998 bands (which are different from the Sprint LS998 bands), so you assume it's a US998. Neither is technically incorrect, nor lying. It IS now a US998, and it does now have US998 bands... The BEST way I have seen is where they claim "UNLOCKED LS998" -- and when you get it, it's of course converted to US998, as that's the only way to unlock an LS998.
Caveats with former LS998 converted to US998:
If you use Verizon you would run into issues ACTIVATING a new SIM card with a former Sprint phone. You would need an already-activated Verizon SIM card. That's the only quibble I have with the converted LS998, where the origin is not fully disclosed. It doesn't bother me as I use Prepaid AT&T, but I have to warn others.
Sprint customers can't use it on Sprint, as it's no longer really an LS998. Sprint won't allow US998 (even former LS998) on their network. But advertising an "unlocked" LS998 might be attractive to a Sprint user who is thinking of switching to another carrier in the future or to buy a phone that can easily be re-sold. They should be told upfront it's a FORMER Sprint LS998.
None of the sellers are lying; it's just a hard situation to describe if you're not familiar with the V30.
Recently in December, I wanted a new (original) US998 V30+ with warranty as a backup, as I had given away all my converted LS998 V30+ > US998 V30+. My wife and I have original US998 V30/V30+, but I alway like having a new backup in a box in case of emergency. So, I specifically bought NEW US998 V30+ from online Wal-mart. Or thought I did! When I picked it up at local Wal-mart I found it's new V30+ all right -- but converted from LS998.... I kept it anyway, as I know it will work fine. But this time I was specifically wanting an "original" US998, even though I had bought converted ones before and had converted two myself.
Anyway, the point to all this is yes, you have a former LS998 converted to US998. So, do several of my friends and my wife used one for awhile. They all work fine on AT&T network. Cricket runs on AT&T network, as it's an AT&T-owned MNVO.

SOLUTION #1
What is possibly the issue is your Cricket APN. Go to your mobile settings and check your APN against this:

You are still on Nougat, so you should be able to edit your APN settings. On Oreo that capability is locked out, but there are workarounds on Oreo and with root you can still edit APN on Oreo, I believe.
SOLUTION #2
Another option you can try is Master Reset. Sort of like a factory reset but more powerful.
With your device powered off, press and hold the Power button and Volume Down buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while keep holding the Volume Down button.
Let go of the buttons when the onscreen menu appears.
When you see the option to Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings message prompt, press the Volume Down button to highlight Yes.
Then press the Power button to reset the device.
Wait until the reset is complete then reboot your device. If it’s able to boot up successfully, proceed with the initial setup.
SOLUTION #3
As far as the SMSC #, not sure why you can't view it, but the US998 (which you have now) has Hidden Menu which lets you delve deep into various settings. BE VERY CAREFUL in the Hidden Menu. You can mess up stuff, especially if you try to enable additional LTE bands. Don't do that. In the US998 that option doesn't really enable additional LTE bands, but instead locks you on ONE band (which may or may not work).
I've never had to view SMSC #. I stick in my SIM card and the phone works -- even former LS998 converted to US998. So, I'm not sure that's your issue. More likely the APN settings?
SOLUTION #4
Next, you are on very old version of Android. Nougat. At some point, you do need to update to Oreo as it brings lots of fixes and more features.
This thread below is where the stock KDZ are posted. You can use LGUP to update to newer firmware.

The other reason I am mentioning this is because instead of "upgrade", you can use an option called "refurbish". Refurbish re-builds EVERYTHING while also updating the firmware. It's possible whoever converted your LS998 to US998 botched something, which is why your SMS doesn't work. Using this refurbish option will lay the foundation again, totally rebuilding your firmware.
After you use that "refurbish" option, then in the future just choose "upgrade".

So I'm not sure of the need or benefit of upgrading from US998 20B to whatever the latest is (appears to be 20G), but should I get the courage to do so, what would the process be?
Would it be as simple as plugging in the phone to the computer and then launch LGUP, selecting upgrade and the 20g kdz? If so I'd be more inclined to do so if their are substantial benefits for doing so.

Yes, it's almost that easy. However, since there's such a large range of changes (especially to audio framework) form 20B to 20G, best to do it in stages. "upgrade" to 20E, reboot, let it settle a few minutes. "Upgrade" to 20F, reboot, let it settle, same with 20G, done.
I wasn't sure exactly what LGUP method you used to get to 20B from Nougat -- whether "upgrade", DL Partition or "refurbish". If the latter two you could have gone straight from Nougat to 20G. But now that you are on 20B, and you want to use "upgrade" (to keep your settings and data), do in those stages.
Since 20B, camera is improved, front and rear. DTS audio framework is introduced. While you still need root to fully enable it, hopefully that will be fixed by LG in upcoming update. Other fixes. Here's the changelog for US998 20F alone.

But there were other changes between 20B and 20F, and maybe more changes with 20G.

Bought unlocked US998 V30+, but it's former LS998 -- HOW TO UPDATE?
I'm adding onto this already-created post as it's still relevant. The person below also bought a US998 V30+ and found it's former LS998 V30+ converted to US998, but is still on older US998 Nougat firmware. The dealer/wholesaler probably did via Octopus box or something similar, while we use Frankenstein conversion via Dev Patched LGUP. But we always "finish" the process by then updating to Oreo. So, it's basically an "unfinished" Frankenstein conversion.
They don't have the SMS issue the first person had in this thread, but it's still same underlying issue. LS998 V30+, now on Nougat US998 and they want to update to current Oreo firmware...

I have a question. I am hoping you are willing to help me.
I have an LG V30+ unlocked mobile phone. It says US998 but I just found out that it is actually LS998 (I typed in the IMEI into this website to check what it truly was and it came back as LS998).
The vendor that sold it to me changed the firmware to US998 and I guess removed all the Sprint bloatware or whatever from the phone.
All is totally fine – the phone works great – no issues – I love it and for the low price I got it for it is fine…Except, because of the above, I do not receive any OTA updates.
See attached screenshots of my phone, it is out of date in terms of software and OS and from what I learned from online posts I will never receive any OTA updates.
Is this a problem? Should I update it manually? Can I?

Yes, the only way to carrier unlock a Sprint LS998 V30+ is to convert it to a North American V30/V30+ carrier unlocked version, using a process which we call Frankenstein. The US998 is the most popular firmware to convert LS998 to, as besides being carrier unlocked is also the only North American V30-series variant with fastboot flash commands (which are necessary if you ever want to unlock bootloader, install TWRP custom recovery and root). The remainder of this answer is on the assumption you do NOT wish to root at this time, but merely wish to update to most current US998 V30/V30+/V30S firmware.
SOLUTION
You can go to the US998 KDZ thread and use Dev Patched LGUP to update to US998 20G KDZ (most current US998 firmware at the moment). Dev Patch LGUP is attached to post #1 of that thread, and there are instructions on how to install LGUP, with screenshots on how to use it.
However, in this instance I would recommend using Dev Patched LGUP in "Refurbish" or "Partition DL" (choosing all partitions) mode -- which while it will wipe out your data, will probably present the least problems. There are a lot of audio framework changes with most recent US998 firmware (especially with 20F and 20G) and if you use "Update" mode (instead of "Refurbish" or "Partition DL") you would have to update in stages to 20E, then 20F, then 20G. #3 is incorrect. Outdated instructions with old TWRP. Those Instructions were for official bootloader unlock code from LG, which we don't need. We no longer need LG permission to root our phones, plus only a few phones were even eligible under that program. A converted LS998 would not be, nor even most US998.
You want the WTF Instructions. You would use this to unlock bootloader, install TWRP custom recovery and root.
You would merely update from US998 Nougat to US998 20B, install TWRP, and follow the instructions to finish rooting.
After bootloader unlock, TWRP and root on 20B, I would then update to TWRP-flashable zip US998 20G in stages. 20E, 20F, then 20G due to the huge audio changes. (The alternative to this would be to refurbish to 20G, but then you would have to reinstall TWRP and re-root. Let's not do that.)
@JohnFawkes actually has DTS enabled on US998 20F and US998 20G TWRP-flashable zips, through build prop edits -- but you would still need to install the DTS Equalizer.

If you don't want to wipe your data, then try Upgrade mode in LGUP.
I was just giving you the answer that will definitely give you best results.
If you use Upgrade mode, you can try to go straight to US998 20G...
but if that gives you audio problems, then go to 20E, then 20F, then 20G in Update mode.

Hi guys!
At this kind of bad time, I got my hands on a weird Japan variant of V30+, meaning that it came with some weird Japanese baseband, IMEIs, modems or whatever. As already seen in xda threads, someone has succeeded in breaking their LGV35... And I surely just in no way want that also happens to me.
So would someone who has successfully flashed any custom ROMs on their LGV35 be kind enough to help me out? Many thanks for any helping hand! I'm willing to install Lineage OS while maintaining the normal SIM functions.
If I ever find any working solutions I would share it here so as to help anyone that comes after me.

Guessing from my former experiences fighting with these Japan variant of Samsung phones, we need to at least back up the original, that meaning, the working EFS partition in TWRP. But as for LG phones, that might just be impossible: You need to flash US998 firmware, or don't I?
Possible solutions found! Guys, I ain't no Fermat who leaves others' a** kicked. I found it on some Chinese forum and I just need to test it out--don't want to misguide anyone else.

Problem with US998 firmware is it doesn't have this Japanese variant modem. They even use Wi-Max bands!

The last person who had one of these got a 2nd one which still had unrooted stock. He was going to try to extract the modem partitions so he could re-flash on his bootloader unlocked rooted one. Never heard the results.

Finally, I had time to get my hands on the phone. I'm not as $$y as him tho. I've been trying the method you provided to convert LGV35 to US998, only after which could I proceed. However, I am aware that "master reset" was unable to stop the repeating bootup-reboot procedure. After flashing US998 10D, in LGUP, the phone is still recognized as LGV35 instead of US998. As a result, "upgrading" to US99820a says the wrong device. I had to use DL partitions again. Well, it still loops under that circumstance. Still working on it now.
Updates: Conversion seems successful, LGUP recognize it as "US99820a" now. Dunno if I could ever stop that boot loop or not. If impossible, maybe I had to attempt skipping it then.
There really isn't anything I might do due to that constantly rebooting. In that master resetting, the erasing image does appear, but it doe not help with the boot looping. It is okay for me. The all but one thing that I learned in my long-struggling with android devices, from as early as 2012 to 2020, that it is super normal if things went wrong. You just need to give it more shots, till you finally succeed or simply dump it somewhere.

I want to know if frankensteining a carrier unlocked us998 to vs99(Verizon version) is just a quick one step process to latest Pie, or do I need to install all updates one by one? The us998 is activated on Verizon and has Android 7.0 on it. Thanks.

One of the trouble shooting tips in the Frankenstein post is to reinstall drivers, another is to try a different computer.
The dll error ALWAYS means either you didn't install the correct version of the Dev Patched LGUP or not using it correctly (like not launching from desktop shortcut, but instead trying to use the folder .exe file). If you are sure you have installed correct, have installed all the correct drivers, then try a different computer.
Thanks for reply. I've tried all steps from the post. Reinstalled, deleted, restarted. Only thing I haven't done is try a different computer. I get "LGUP can't load the model[c:\Program Files\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\com" error. Am i missing a file?
I noticed that the program also installs onto my C:. I also have to delete c:\LG Electronics folder. Is this normal? I've downloaded LGUP Dual from both links in the post. I guess i'll try a different PC. Thanks for your help.

You would simply do the reverse. You would flash your phone back to US998 KDZ. However, US998 10b was very early Nougat. If you ever go back to US998, like to sell the phone or something, I would at least flash to newer US998 firmware -- like 20h (last Oreo).

Actually it's VS996, for the Verizon V30, not VS9998.
So you're on US998 Nougat?
Technically for Frankenstein, using Dev Patched LGUP you should Partition DL to VS996 Nougat, use Master Reset, then Refurbish to VS996 Pie.
However, US998 and VS996 have a level of compatibility the others don't enjoy. I think you can Partition DL straight to VS996 Pie, followed by Master Reset.
If you're not sure what Master Reset is (sequence of button), see the Frankenstein instructions.

Thanks for the reply. Do you recommend going straight to Pie? If its more reliable in steps ex. Nougat, Oreo, Pie, then ill do it. I was just wondering if jumping straight to Pie would cause issues.

You're not Bootloader Unlocked and rooted, are you? You don't care about that? It's fine if you don't. Neither is my wife's, sister's nor brother-in-law's V30/V30+.
BUT if that is something you would want, no, you can't go straight to VS996 Pie until you do some other stuff.
But if you just want Verizon firmware, then you should be able to jump straight to VS996 Pie from US998 Nougat, going by what other Verizon users have done. Use Dev Patched LGUP in Partition DL mode, with all Partitions. Then Master Reset.
If for some reason, doesn't work, then tour would need to flash VS996 Nougat, Master Reset, then VS996 Pie.

You are basically asking about Frankenstein, where one North American variant can be fully converted to another (firmware, modem with LTE bands, etc)
Normally, for most North American variants, when flashing KDZ (LG stock firmware image) you actually need to downgrade all the way to Nougat first before upgrading to more current firmware. See Frankenstein instructions.
But US998/VS996 have a very close relationship. If have US998 firmware on the phone, you can go straight to Verizon VS996 Pie firmware using Dev Patched LGUP. For this specific combination you do not need to downgrade first.

Thank you!! I did some more searching around the site late last night and am going to try it tonight. The main reason is because i just switched to Verizon and the WIFI calling option disappeared even though it was "turned" through Verizon. It seems to be that even though I have a carrier unlocked phone, Verizon doesn't see that and will block certain features unless it is a Verizon phone. I have access to the network, but not the wifi calling
So I'm still having issues. I've downloaded and installed drivers and LGUP Dual mode from the link and can't seem to get it to work. I get the phone into download mode and it goes into the firmware upgrade screen but my LGUP doesn't load. I get a "LGUP can't load the model[c:\Program Files\Lg Electronics\LGUP\model\com" error. Any suggestions?

See the trouble shooting tips in the Frankenstein Instructions. How many of those have you tried?
Sounds like LGUP wasn't installed correctly. It needs to be installed using very specific steps. There are other possible explanations, but this is where I would start.
Uninstall LGUP completely (in Programs & Features control panel), then delete all its remnants and folders and restart Windows (not Shutdown, Restart).
Now download LGUP from the link in one of ChazzMatt's Pie KDZ ROM threads, and install it EXACTLY folding the steps he gives, no shortcuts or deviations.
If it still doesn't work, follow his troubleshooting steps in the same ROM thread.
Edit: Oops, Chazz beat me to it.

I've recently come across a post that said to attempt trying 20b to 30b, which I'll try as a last effort to get this working, but I'd still appreciate advice on what to do. Whether it be this last method, a modification of it, or just something else entirely, I'd be forever grateful for the help.

1) You need stock Android 9 (Pie) as a base before flashing any LOS-17 (Android 10) ROMs. But you seem to know that.
There are several methods to update to to Pie US998. See US998 Pie KDZ thread, post #2 and FOUR MORE WORKAROUND in post #6.
2) What variant did you start with? If you have former AT&T H931 or Canada H933, you'll need to do additional prep steps before installing any LOS custom ROMs.

This FAQ is prominently linked in the WTF instructions, with suggestion to read first, then come come back to finish unlocking bootloader...

Yes, I did read through the FAQ before and after unlocking. My variant is the US998U/V30+, which is why I'm a bit confused. The US998 and US998U are identical, aside from storage capacity, right?

I was on the TWRP flashable kdz of 30b for a month or two now after Frankensteining it, but wanted to try out some 10 ROMS, but attempting to flash those ROMs was when I started having issues. Flashing the stock US998 kdzs didn't cause issues, the 30b zip I had been running daily wasn't weird, and the md5s for all the files downloaded matched what was provided as correct. That's why I'm a bit stumped, since I believe I followed all the guides I've looked at to make things work correctly, but this one part is giving me a hard time.
I will try those other four methods, since I don't believe to have seen them yet. I will provide an edit to this post after trying them, thank you.

If you Frankenstein'ed, I'm asking what your original variant is. Frankenstein is to convert North American variant to another, also called cross flashing.
Whereas " WTF" is bootloader unlock and installing TWRP. Some North American variants have to Frankenstein to US998 for fastboot flash commands. Then they can use WTF INSTRUCTIONS. But Frankenstein itself is not bootloader unlock, TWRP and root. It's just fully converting one variant to another. It ONLY works with the North American variants, except for T-Mobile H932.

Ahh, alrighty, I understand the difference now. So I had Frankenstein'ed to unlock my bootloader, then unlocked it with "WTF".
Also, the IMEI checker reported my device as a US998U V30+, which was what I bought it as used.

Merely downgrading to earlier firmware is not Frankenstein. Frankenstein is fully converting one variant to another. It takes on those different LTE bands, etc. Cross flashing AT&T H931 to US998 gives it CDMA bands the H931 doesn't have, different LTE bands, fastboot flash commands. Same with Frankenstein'ed H933. See screenshot.
If you already had US998 firmware and your IMEI check says it's a native US998U (V30+), then you didn't Frankenstein to US998. You already had US998 with fastboot flash commands. You just used LGUP to downgrade to early US998 Oreo for WTF bootloader unlock, TWRP installation and root and/or maybe you went to US998 Nougat at one point. But you were already US998. You weren't on LS998, AS998, H933, H931, VS996 firmware, at any point in time.
Why you are bootlooping on LOS-17 Android 10 ROMs, I don't know. You don't have former H931 or H933, and you said you were on US998 30b (Pie) when you tried to flash those ROMs.

The problem with Method #4 is you are willingly converting to Canada H933. While that might get you back to US998 30b, it will then give you more difficulty in flashing LOS ROMs. You have to go through the tedious extra steps of former H931/H933.

As someone who doesn't necessarily mind the extra preparation, would you recommend it for someone in my predicament? And is there any log file I can provide to hopefully help give more insight?

That's your decision. It should get you back to 30b. After that, for flashing ROMs, you'll have to follow the other instructions for H933 (since you will have converted to that, then converted back).

Though if I am to do that, would I still keep the bands I have at the moment or would I lose them when converting? Would I have to refflash my modem partition(s)?

The method is flash to H933 Nougat I believe, then flash back to US998. You don't stay on H933. You flash everything via LGUP Partition DL mode.

Ah alright, I'll try that. So just to clarify, I'd flash over to an H933, then come back to a US998, and then install the 30b kdz, and that should hopefully fix my issues?

LGUP doesn't seem to recognize my phone as a H933 after flashing and rebooting back to download mode, but the phone seems to know it's one when I flash and it says what build it's on and what's being flashed.
EDIT 1: Reinstalling LGUP fixed that particular issue, so I'll have to restart the procedure just so it's as unobstructed as possible.
EDIT 2: Never mind, still the same strange occurrence that happened before. I'll try to move on and see if it'll still work.
Okay so, after a lot of trouble, everything seems to work. I ran Jett's Wifi Backup fix to fix the broken wifi on Havoc, along with the Haumea kernel, and now everything seems stable.

Hi guys, I'm a bit lost too.
My phone is a V300S that is Frankensteined to US998 with V300S modem, bootloader unlocked and installed TWRP.
However i also faced the problem of installing Android 10 based roms causing bootloops, I've seen on the Custom ROMs page that i needed the lastest stock Pie blobs, which is what i have currently (30b)
Is this variant using a different way for custom ROMs? Or did i do something entirely wrong on Frankensteining?
Edit: silly me recently saw that i need to convert my V300S to H930, not US998... I guess I'll try that first
Update: well everything went south, now i can't go back to US99830b anymore, stuck at V300s Oreo. I guess I'll start everything over again, but if there are things or procedures i needed to know, please, any help will do
