hello
i want to buy a new android phone and i love capture photos..so which one have a better camera..SGS2 or MyTouch Slide 4G or iPhone 4..i don't care about video recording
Best camera I've had on a smart phone yet; had an iPhone 4 for a bit before this and that had the best camera imo till the GS II, the GS II takes amazing photos and can't forget the 2mp front cam vs the less than 1mp vga camera that you get with almost any smartphone these days...
Theres a post on the GS II general here that says "post the best picture you've taken with the gs ii" or something, id check that thread out as people have some really amazing photos taken with the phone up.

There we go, check that thread out. If you are a skilled photographer or even just a point and shoot guy the gs ii takes great photos.

my friend have SGS2 and most of my family have iPhone 4..all of them say iPhone 4 camera better than SGS2 !! my friend running original rom..he should running custom rom to improve camera ??

That's not true. Even the original Galaxy S has better camera than iphone 4.

Well to each their own, from my personal experience i prefer the GSII camera 10x over the iPhone 4 camera. Then again I'm not really a photographing enthusiast I'm just a point and shoot type of person nor do i know the technical stuff about cameras to actually inspect both cameras technically and say which is better. If you are a "pro" photographer id google the specifications of each like the sensor or w/e and read up on it before making a decision.

I'm actually disappointed with the camera, I'm struggling to take any decent pictures with it, although that's probably my lack of talent.
I remember the iphone 4 camera being better, but without having them side by side I'll never know.
On paper the galaxy is better though.
It doesn't replace my 50D, but it does replace my 10 megapixel Sony TX1. Having an 8 megapixel cam on a phone is perfect for most uses.

Anyway, definitely it is much better than my SGS1, esp in lower light. The front camera is unreal also, I take a lot of pics with the front camera when I am out and about (so I can see what I am framing with me in the pic ;-). The SGS1 front camera produced distorted, messy blobs, the SGSII one is quite a bit better. Good enough for facebook uploads, anyway.
But friends took a pic of a group of us with an iphone in a poorly lit telephone exchange, I was amazed at the clarity of the image, my SGS1 was never capable of such an image in those light conditions (my old old Nokia N95 on the other hand, I was nearly always happy with those pics). I reckon (but will have to wait and see till I get to the same location again one day) that the SGSII might just pip it, thanks also to the flash.
Came from an iPhone 4, it definitely has a better camera and it's not very picky when it comes to lighting and focus. In contrast the SGS1 camera was pretty meh compared to the iPhone 4's shots
sgs2 has one very good camera.but the best camera smartphone is the nokia n8.
I agree, the camera is way better than the one the SGS1 had.
First time I can take decent pictures with my phone in a bar - without a flash. Great
I do think the s2 camera is slightly better than iPhone 4 but it does have a slower shutter speed (my mate and I have tested this) and sometimes its hard to get in focus... overall though not bad. Just my 2c
Its not the best camera around but it can surely rival the N8's 12Mpixel camera. The only downside is that there is a pink/green spot depending on the light conditions ( even out doors ) and some users have frame drop issues on low light when capturing 720P. 1080P video is extremely zoomed so this is only good as a 720P video capture. Putting aside the defects, the image quality is very acceptable, altho it still cant rival my very old Sony DSC-P200 ( roughly about 7-8yrs old )
if you use true hdr apps to take pics of the sun you'll be fine

dont be fooled with camera apps claiming hdr and taking a single picture - its just image processing and the result sux
im listing that because the iphone4 uses hdr for pics and this kind of pic look a lot better that way
gsmarena has good comparisons of different devices' cameras . It's important to see pictures taken under similar conditions and the same test scene .
One shouldn't expect wonders from such a tiny sensor . Anything not shot in daylight / lowest ISO/ is a compromise.

Can camera performance be improved with software tweaks or is it just that Redmi Note 3 uses uses bad hardware/sensor?
I suspect that the problem is related to the sensor/hardware
In poor light conditions the camera is bull****, but in good light is pretty good, idk why because the sensor is f/2.0
Yeah, I'm pretty sure, it's a hardware thingy. Numbers aren't meant anymore. You can see, the camera is 16MP with f/2.0, but it's quality says otherwise.
I compared photos taken with RN3 with Mi4i's, having f/2.0 sensor as well. The photos taken with Mi4i were crisp & clear and with RN3, were noisy & grainy. I guess, Xiaomi didn't use a good sensor to cut down the price.
I wonder if it is upscaling some phones are really like 8 MP but use software interpoling to upscale, so I guess you could try taking a picture at 8 or 13 MP and see if there is any difference - just an idea, I will test when I get some time.

I don't think this is happening. It's not a matter of lack of resolution, it's more to do with sensor quality. Xiaomi wouldn't lie about their cameras.
Guys the pixel size from the kenzo is one of the smallest on the market. In good light the pictures are pretty good. But in more dark areas the pictures are really bad, thats because of the pixel size. Its hardware limited and there aren't many software improvements. So live with it or buy another phone
Can use hardware camera from other device and patch kernel and drivers?

I have no complaints, the pictures look similar to my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 , perhaps because of the samsung brand cmos ..ok actually I'm not sure what sensor is in the samsung tablet,
I did notice my samsung tablet has way better closeup zoom capabilities though, where the kenzo will start to blur at same range - not a huge deal unless you need to take pictures of flowers or bugs ...etc, perhaps it has a macro mode I missed, haven't had too much time to mess around with the camera - I'll get to it eventually

Everyone should post a sample picture from their device using the stock camera app(don't forget to turn off geo-tagging), to see if the output is similar across multiple rn3p maybe some have better/worse sensors?

A camera is a very important factor for me when buying a phone,
I bought my Redmi Note 3 after reading some underwhelming reviews about the camera, thinking "oh well, how bad can the rear camera be?" - well, the camera is really under performing, very soft images, noticeable noise in almost every scenario, very disappointing.
My question is that,
Is it really a hardware issue, or just poor camera algorithms coding?
if the former, I will just look for another phone and sell mine,
otherwise, I will (try to) wait patiently until the appropriate software update will come

Camera is nothing but decent , specially at natural light conditions.it seems great at night condition without flash due to low aperture.miui 8 greatly improved my camera experience.i found alomost zero noise in night shots. Enough for a $200 phone
I think it takes good pictures but I found that any kind of motion will blur the picture (even just walking and snapping a pic), so motion sucks, try taking a picture of a moving dog it will just be a blur, low light also sucks, but if you take still pictures under good lighting pictures look great, I think there is a soft spot for this camera it's just hard to find, also lowering the resolution to 12MP will take 16:9 widescreen photos rather then 4:3 photos in 16MP mode
Part of the problem is it never wants to increase the shutter speed properly in order to keep iso low. It tends to take most pictures at 1/25th or so, which is great for static but not for moving objects where you need a faster shutter speed to freeze motion.

low light shots are average.
daytime shots are great.
did you tweak the default settings?
which ROM are you on?....try to be on latest MM dev or china rom
also try using open camera.
at this price range, show me a phone which gives better images?
I tried all the tweaks available including using Open Camera, nothing really helped.
I ended up selling it and buying an Mi4C - the difference in photo quality is unbelievable (at a price of around 90$ new)
Had 7 different smart phones this year, and Redmi Note's camera was the weakest among them, for me it's very noticeable.
How is the camera quality? Im coming from S22u
Battery is ok. Zoom definetly not the camera to shine. Ultrawide and standard lens are very good. However, coming from an S22u you might have a downgrade..
Main camera captures a lot of details and offers a very good (and bright) night mode. Ultrawide and tele are "ok cameras". They can take good pictures in some conditions but don't expect much, they are not in S22u or i13 Pro territory. You'll notice too that the default camera app tends to oversaturate colors. Sometimes overly So. I got Gcam for that reason. The front cameras for selfies are also ok cameras. In poor light they are almost unusable for me. I recommend using the main camera for selfies. Find N is a great phone but the cameras are not the highlight.
Cameras on this Oppo are very good. Samsung S22 Ultra is plagued with horrible shutter lag nobody talks about. Not anymore since I upgraded to Oppo find N. And here you have proper 50mm portrait focal length unlike 75 (3x) they now put in every flag****.
When I am in the selfie camera and i open the gallery preview on the bottom left or close the camera app i hear this click sound coming from the front facing selfie camera. Also when i look super closely after switching or closing the app, i can see the selfie camera move backwards kinda.
Im aware of the rear cameras having OIS so it moves around and makes some sound but this seems to be coming from the front facing camera. I never switched to the back cameras so they never activated.
Can you guys with the 23 ultra test this and see if you have it too, im not sure if its normal behavior.

The Front Facing Camera have auto focus so there is a lens that moves forward and backward , and may be thy added OIS secretly like apple did with IP14PM

Of course the camera has OIS... It's a flagship. It would be basically criminal for it NOT to have optical image stabilization. Also, the iPhone Pro Max series has had OIS since at least the 12 Pro Max (in fact Apple claimed it had dual optical image stabilization, meaning the telephoto had it as well). Not having OIS means blurry images in anything less than the utmost stable of hands when taking a photo and it's why I hated my OnePlus 9 and wished I bought the 9 Pro even though I didn't want the curved screen. Were you thinking of some other feature?
