S9+ lag spikes on ps4 Mobile tethering - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

I've had my s9+ for over two weeks and absolutely love the phone. There is one problem I am facing. I usually game on my ps4 using my mobile hotspot on the T-mobile network. When I test my connection my download speeds are usually high, 50 download and around 4-6 upload. For some reason I have gotten random lag spikes ( due to the ping fluctuating ) I turned off power saving mode under configure mobile hotspot, but still nothing. I never had this issue on my google pixel. Just to confirm I popped my SIM card back into my pixel and used it for about 2 hours no spikes whatsoever. Any ideas?

Bump

Can't comfirm for Ps4 as I haven't used it with that as of now. But yes, when I connect it to my laptop as hotspot, network speed is terrible and it continues to disconnect the internet. I have to connect to VPN again and again.

having similar issues with my in car wifi keeps dropping to my headunit. old s7 is fine

Having the same issue on my laptop, works perfectly with my work phone on the same network, but when connecting to any laptop i get these spikes in latency.
I have attached some screenshots that show my ping on my phone, vs on my laptop via hotspot which shows the spikes.
Did you find a solution?

After I got the latest update from T-mobile I did a clean reset and flashed a new image through Odin. I have tested it out desktop without any disconnections or lag spikes. I have tested it out watching Netflix YouTube videos in 4K without any hiccups. I called Samsung and they said they had multiple complaints about lag spikes on the ps4. It seems to me that it isn't optimized to hold a consistent Ping. Samsung said they submitted a ticket and gave me a ticket number. Hopefully they can find the issue and correct it. Will update periodically as soon as Samsung gives me an update.

News? I have the Same problem.
With Samsung s7 hotspot i have 32 ms on my ps4, with my new s9 hotspot i have 129ms.
im italian.

Wireless Problems - Zyxel WAP-3205

Hi There!
I have my Galaxy S3 and I have two locations (Home and Office) both with Zyxel WAP-3205's running the latest firmware.
I can't stay connected to either.
Essentially if I switch off WiFi on the phone and then on again, it connects, gets an ip, will work for a few minutes or maybe less and then seems to drop the connection. Only switching WiFi off and on again fixes it for another minute.
I am running Stock VFNZ firmware.
Home is running Channel 1, can't recall what work is.
Anything I can do to troubleshoot?
I am also having a similar issue. My wifi disconnects every hour or so and when i am in call while using bluetooth my wireless disconnects like crazy.
Mine turned out to be a faulty GS3 which was replaced and now everything is fine.
My dealer refuses to replace mine even tho I can replicate the problem easy and consistently. My only option now is send this off to Optus which is pathetic.

Wireless Conflicts/Problems

Hi,
I have a Galaxy s3 and im based in the uk. When i connect my s3 to my sky sagecom router, it seems to corrupt my internet connection. My line is approx 11mb, and normally get speeds around 1mb per second when downloading, and speedtest.net confirms this. I then connect my s3, and my line becomes very slow browsing, and speednet reflects this as my ping rate goes up from 35 to several hundred and my line speed goes to between .5mb to 3mb. As soon as I disconnect my s3 it all works fine again.
I cant see much in the wireless settings that i can play about with to try and narrow the problem down. I have had this problem intermittently for a while but only just narrowed it down to the s3.
Has anyone experienced this or suggest anything I can try?
Thanks
Dave

No 802.11 ac???

Just received my imported japanese 32gb z3tc sgp612 and noticed I can't find my dual band network on my router. Anyone else having this issue? All my other devices scan and find it with no problem. Tried restarting tablet and resetting router but no luck
Mine was also Japan imported (SGP611). I can connect to 5Ghz with a speed of 585Mbps with no problem.
Edit--
What security are you using on your WiFi? (TKIP, AES, WPA/WPA2)?
Mine was WPA/WPA2 PSK. I saw some tablet (Samsung) that can't detect WiFi that using some specific security.
Can you manually add your SSID?
In the Wifi page, tap the + sign then manually enter your SSID and Security.
Yes I have wpa. I will try to enter it manually and see what happens. Thanks for the info.
Edit... Never mind. I shut down my computer before going to work. After I turned it back on it picked up the network instantly. Thanks for the help though.
I must add this battery is ridiculous. Started at 64% out the box and after downloading all my apps, games, web browsing, youtubing and light gaming (subway surfers) I left it home overnight. I came back home to this thing at 42% with 20 hours on battery and 2 hours on screen time. Nothing short of incredible for the battery size. It hasn't even been broken in yet and already getting incredible battery life.

I too just received the 32gb Japanese model and am having 5ghz issues. I have zero 5ghz connectivity. I used a couple different wifi scanning apps on the tablet along with my phone (which showed the 5ghz networks). I have updated my router firmware and even changed the 5ghz SSID to see if that will reboot something for the tablet. I have even done a factory reset with no luck. Please tell me i'm doing something wrong and the tablet is fine, because returning it due to it being faulty would just be soul crushing after the Nexus 9 disaster I went through.

Wifi and Bluetooth randomly dropping out

So I've noticed that randomly throughout the day my phone will randomly disconnect from Wifi and Bluetooth. It always drops both at the same time then reconnects.
Has anyone else had this problem?
For me the Mobile Connection Drops every few seconds.....No Network...4G TLE with 5 Bars.......No Network...4G TLE with 5 Bars.....No Network...4G TLE with 5 Bars.....No Network...4G TLE with 5 Bars...
Got my My LG G5 from T-Mobile... After 3 days the phone has been overheating, and every 10 seconds it drops Mobile Connection...I went through a plethora of tests with T-Mobile Support and they determined that I need a replacement device...so waiting for the replacement...One other thing, I notice this happened after calling T-Mobile to Unlock the device...So not sure if there is any correlation between my issue and T-Mobiles Unlock App, T-Mobile said the two were not related.
WiFi is unstable for me, too. Disconnects randomly every hour or so. I mostly notice it when casting to my Chromecast. I have to reconnect to the app in order to regain control. I've tried multiple routers, and the problem is reproducible with both. Bluetooth hiccups, too, but never fully disconnects. I haven't noticed that the WiFi and Bluetooth disconnects coincide. Mine is AT&T branded.
I've got a similar issue, only the wifi is fine most of the time, but Bluetooth skips every few minutes and has completely dropped twice. I'm exchanging my device tomorrow to see if that fixes it. I also got a crap battery as well. Kinda disappointed with this $700 purchase.

Me too, i disappointed
Okay so, I've only managed to reproduce it on 5GHz networks. It doesn't seem to drop out on the 2.4GHz band. Bluetooth doesn't drop out either.
Scrap that, just happened again at work on a 2.4GHz connection. Hopefully it's just a software bug that will be fixed in a later patch.
I have 5Ghz wi-fi at home and it's been rock solid. Have also had no issues with bluetooth. Hope you get it figured out.
Both bands Wi-Fi & BT rock solid for me too. The BT in particular seems much stronger than my 6P which had occasional drop outs even at close range.
Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
I notice that it reports "Avoiding poor connection" in the WiFi menu when it's disconnected. I'm sitting in the room with the router, so maybe the "poor connection" detection is too aggressive.
Mine just starting dropping WiFi while the screen is off, I check the settings and everything is setup right it just started to happen today. I would F/R the phone and see if that helps
I exchanged mine for a new one, and the WiFi connection remains inconsistent.

Mine also does this and seems to be getting worse also vibrations have also stopped all together
I can't even get through 1-2 songs on bluetooth before it disconnects and plays through my phone speakers... it has zero issues connecting in the first place and sounds fine, but then just drops.
I do have pretty unreliable wifi at home so I'm playing some music with wifi switched off to see if it could somehow be related to wifi dropping, but these songs I'm playing are cached to my phone from Play Music so that'd seem weird to me..
Also wondering if hardware and distance has an issue with it. I had it 2-3 yards away from my bluetooth shower speaker when it disconnected. I'm playing it right next to it now and so far into song 2 with no issues. I've never had this issue with my G4, which is a bummer, because that phone was a piece of junk that my G5, otherwise, outclasses in every possible way.
To update, the Bluetooth issues absolutely seem to be linked to wifi drops, at least from my testing. Even playing local media, I noticed both dropped at the same time, but I played through 5 songs with my wifi toggled off and not a single problem.
Those of you with issues in the car, is your wifi toggled off completely? I'm wondering if it's affected by having wifi on, or just by a random wifi drop.
I've had wifi issues with every Android phone I've owned since IPv6 became normal in home routers. I blame Google for refusing to use DHCPv6, the most widely used dynamic network addressing protocol, instead using some weirdass protocol called RDNSS which NOBODY uses. I've found the best fix is to ensure your router is set to stateless autoconfiguration for IPv6, but it doesn't fix it completely. Those who have a router that can shut v6 off, try it out. Xfinity doesn't let you.
I will say my g4 behaved the exact same way on wifi, but I don't remember Bluetooth having issues. I don't use it much, though, since I have an AUX in my car and Chromecast music.
Having the same issue as well. Fought with sprint for weeks and went through a few replacements in that time... Got the G5 as a free upgrade and it's doing the same thing. Done with LG devices...
Yes, and I just made a thread about it. Oops. Anyone try resetting phone? I'm about to but that's a pain having to bring it all back and make sure I back everything up.

That is not promising as I've had this issue since day one hoping an update would solve it to no avail trying to avoid getting a replacement.
My last phone did the exact same thing. For 2 years. Also constantly closing apps I was using, freezing, and my keyboard would disappear frequently. It did it from Day 1. It was a nightmare.
Finally got a new phone (and moved up to Marshmallow,) and the drops have started happening after less than 1 week. They really need to find out what's causing this!

WiFi strength, range, and throughput

Rate this thread to express how you think the LG G6's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Pulls all WiFi signals in my home on all bandwidths with no issues, connects almost instant and is ready for use within seconds of connecting. I can use my WiFi in the house from my car much better when sitting outside or in the driveway and my routers are in the middle of the house block by tons of walls.
Seems to have trouble switching towers when driving. I have had data drops/disconnects when I can see several Verizon Towers nearby. Its not a verizon issue but phone issue. However, when stationary, seems to maintain high speeds. I have pulled faster speeds with this, then the S7 Edge snapdragon 820.
Mine works well and stays connected to my 5GHZ signal... my older phone/devices sometimes have issues connecting in the rooms at the farthest end of my home... which is not a big home by any means but it does have brick wall inbetween. It does very well.
Coming from the Note 5 the wifi on the G6 is amazing. My biggest gripe with the note 5 is at my Gym they have 3 different wifi and the note 5 most of the time would either not connect or switch wifi.
Walked in with the LG6 and instantly sync up to wifi and had no problems switching to different connections.
My WiFi experience on the G6 has been quite poor. WiFi disconnects all the time, like multiple times while watching a single YouTube video. I have WiFi set to stay on all the time, and my $30 Kindle Fire has perfect WiFi throughout the entire house and never disconnects. Really wondering how to fix this...

I used to have a "n" wifi router and my laptop (which supports ac mode) never work right. Until one day, I upgraded my router to "ac" supported one and it just works perfectly.
Just my 2 cents.
Gets farther from my wireless router than my note 4 did, and that was pretty good. Quite pleased.
Hi,
can anyone check if Your G6 have a problem with "not seeing" WiFi 2.4GHz networkson on channels 12,13,14 ?
I checked two G6 from one delivery. Phone is updated, I did a factory-reset twice. H870 Orange soft. I contact LG support and I was told that probably the motherboard need to replaced...the phone has 2 months and for me it is a factory defect.
