Redmi note 4x Qualcom- Poor battery life, 10-15% discharge at night - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

ROM: Resurrection Remix Oficial RR-O-v6.0.0-20180314-mido-Official
Firmware: Last Stable fw_miui_HMNote4XGlobal_V9.5.4.0.NCFMIFA_aaade14a88_7.0
Kernel: Francokernel fk-r5-anykernel2
When i bought the phone, it came with 0% battery, i fully charged it before use. Its annoying because i think the battery may be damaged, all phones came with 60% battery more or less.
Deep sleep works great, see photos
On MIUI the battery was worse. Maximum 3h SOT, now 4-4,5h MAX with minimum brightness

I'd say that get it checked from the xiaomi service center under your warranty. Even if the problem isn't real, it doesn't hurt to get it checked. You might even figure something out by that and anyways it's free
Sent from my Redmi Note 4 using XDA Labs

Reflash stock ROM, stock kernel, lock bootloader and check the usage for 2 days, while taking necessary logs for battery discharge. If the discharge rate is poor, get to the service center.
And yes, 0% battery is unusual especially for a built-in battery.

I dont know if only on wifi, on airplane mode is the same, but i dont remember if wifi was on or not.
I can disable wifi all time to try
Thank you for your help

Clean flash your oreo rom. Try out other kernel, don't tweak anything. I use xenial 20x kernel. Then you can use magisk v16 for root. As under examination, install minimal set of your apps. Check for battery.

Weird battery indication issues

I am using the Miui 8.0.1. stable Rom from xiaomi.eu
The battery indications are strange. The number gets low quick, it falls from 100% to 1% in a short period, and I am not doing much on the phone. It takes like 5-6 hours to go to 1 or 0% but when I take the battery out and put it in again and switch on the phone, all without charging it, then suddenly the battery shows like 56%. How can that be? It is quite annoying and makes no sense. The indication is not reliable at all. I don't even know how much battery is really left. Please help

Do you do it every time after charging your battery? How do you calibrate it?
Even after battery calibration, battery drain is still present. This has something to do with Redmi Note 2 having problems connecting to 2g, 3g and 4g cell towers and WIFI chipset.

I'm using the last stable miui 7 by xiaomi.eu and the 20 firsts minutes was consuming a lot, after this firsts 20 min it's working very well. I'm on 60 % after one day, with very few use, it's working very well for me.
I have detected that using the original charger causes the problem in my case.
It's better to use a USB port from a computer or an old charger. I think the problem is with fast charge.

I did some tests, I wrote the results also on the official forum in the Feedback on Battery thread.
I always had problem with battery since I got my Prime on Oct. 2015, max ~2h SOT, even on MIUI 7.
I did a test without SIMs, wifi only and I reached ~4h SOT.
Then I did a test again with SIMs and data (set to 3G), ~2h SOT again.
And another test wifi only, ~4h SOT again.
Can someone repeat the same test?
100% to ~15% on data -> ?h SOT
100% to ~15% on wifi -> ?h SOT

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Awsome standby ability.Only losses 1 percentage barely when i wakeup morning
Not mine ?mine drain battery as it seems like screen is on all night!!!
Standby was high on miui and miui based roms and it was also high on 7 and 8 roms but the newest roms have the best standby time ever. Only 1 percent in 4 hours. WOW!
With Greenify, amplify and RR Nougat, standby time is crazy high. I get almost two days standby time.

Which ROM you are using?
I left MiUi for good. Some say you get 1-4 days standby. Well I got 1-2 days that I keep using the phone. 12 days standby with Lineage 14.1 ROM and franco kernel. MiUi is nice and packed with features but everyone will leave it for good if one wishes for ultimate battery and performance.
However this is only true for Snapdragon variants. If you have Mediatek well... You can be grateful that your phone gets 1 day standby. It's a power hungry wolf. I sold my Mediatek to buy a Snapdragon. Never regretted.

Any advice on how to check if my battery is damaged or toast? I've turned off pretty much everything and the battery is draining like crazy whether in use or not. I'm lucky to get around 2 hours of SOT now.

If your battery was damaged it would heat like hell not just drain. It also depends on the variant if SD or MTK. MTK drains 5x faster than SD. Also miui 7-8-9 weren't very well optimised and drained my battery very fast. MiUi 10 beta on SD variant gets almost a day of screen on time which is really good. One or more day with moderate usage. I use my SD with Lineage os and kud kernel and lasts 8-12 days without charging if I use the phone wisely.

Battery drain in every ROM, WTF?!

Hi all. From a month to now I'm facing an odd problem with my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 SD International. First of all I tried several ROMs: both MIUI Global and Developer, LOS, RR, LegendROM, AOSP Extended and XenonHD: in every of these ROMs, battery performances are quite poor: two months ago screen on time was not less than 9 to 10 hours, now it's hard to reach 6 hours of SOT. I have to charge the phone every two days instead of three. I tried several kernels and power consumpion profile but they didn't help. Is my battery faulty? How con I solve this problem?

I'm sure it's planned obsolescence. The redmi note 2 had the same bug. It drained quickly and charged quickly too. But when you let it drain to 0%, and powered it back on, it still had 35% left. You could still use your phone for 1h after that.
Overnight charge is okay, just don't let it drain to 0%... You should charge your phone everyday. Not once in 3 day.

Assuming the battery was charged every 3 days, are you usually use it from 100 until it's very low power or empty??
if yes, then your battery might already broken...
its because full cycle usage will degrade battery performance faster, just do full-cycle when the battery meter is not accurate to calibrate it, otherwise don't let it fall under 10% or even 0%.
Believe it or not. Battery gets weaker and phone tends to easily heat up after we begin torturing our phones by unlocking and flashing tons of ROMs very frequently. In such Flashing back fastboot images also doesn't bring back that wow factor of the phone.
This is my personnel experience with 5 Android phones till date. The one locked and unrooted is still giving best backup.
But yea we obviously miss some wow mods of xda like Viperfx being unrooted.
Hi, I've opened a thread describing my situation, you can take a look at it if you want to, it may help in finding the solution. I would appreciate if anyone could help me.
The problem is causing buy the wifi.
The phone have a wifi issue.
I write a tread about this.
I found some strange behavior with my phone for the past two months. Actually, the problem started when they released MIUI 9 and it is getting worse over time. The battery is draining really fast. When I check the usage, android consumes almost 70% of the battery. I had reported the issue to MI support and it seemed ok for a few days when I updated it to 9.6.1.0, but the issue seems to be back now. The only option I have right now is to use other custom roms. Can this happen because of faulty battery? I hope not!
---------- Post added at 12:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:02 PM ----------
I am facing a similar issue. When I checked battery usage, android is using 70% of the battery. Could this be an issue with battery? I used to plug my phone over night in the past.
Try let your battery drain to 0% so phone will shut down, this is called calibration btw.(do not use play store apps, all they do is deleting some files which do not work like intended)
Then charge till 95% at most and try again. Btw don't charge phone overnight as it was mentioned above and try charging it when the battery drops to 15%-20%. At most let it charge until 95% you don't want to overdo it. If the issue still persists then you might want a battery replacement.

Much lower SOT than month ago.

Hi! I own a RN4X for about 3 months. When i started using it I could easily get minimum 9h of SOT no matter what i was doing (usually im just watching youtube, listening to music and using browser). Now i can get barely 6h of SOT. No matter what ROM I am using or what kernel. Max 7h of sot. Are xiaomi's batteries so weak or just my device is kinda defective? Should i give it to warranty?

That doesn't change thing that people i know still have 10h+ SOT on the same usage with that device after using it for a year. It just isn't normal that after 2 months my battery started to behave like its 2000mAh. And battery isn't my only problem. I've got a few bad pixels, headphones sometimes "unplugs" itself and phone starts to use speakers, awful signal in a big city (ofc only for me, i know many xiaomi users and their signal is pretty good in those areas)

There is no such thing as same usage between 2 people, 20% less screen brightness can give you 1 more hour sot if not more, different carrier = different signal = different battery life, there is thousands things like this which make battery life comparisons useless, dont be stupid.
Trust me, i've been using it on 40% of brightness and underclocked cpu to 1684Mhz. We all are using the same carrier. Our use is really comparable. I wouldn't post that if it was different.

try to do super clean flash... means you use OTG to flash... wipe all the partition on device, including the internal storage too....
My wife have been using mido since february and still got 10+ hours SoT, there is no performance or battery degradation. That makes me switch to mido too about a month ago...
do not install use custom kernel, you see the long list of features but actually it's not necessary...
for example, Its absolutely not necessary to underclock the cpu... decreasing cpu clock will not increase battery backup.
When the cpu is slow, yes it will consume lower power on load... but It will need more time to load
When cpu is fast, yes it will consume higher power when on load, but it will go idle faster
calibrate battery usimg an app. you will any on play store. install any and calibrate. the must require root.

Battery issue - subpar battery life

Hello everyone!
I bought my Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus in january this year. Since then I've been more than satisfied with this device. I was using Resurrection Remix v6.1.0 for a couple months when I started to see that my battery was draining faster and faster... Firstly, my phone could charge up to 98%, then it would stop charging... Then there came issues with screen on time... I was barely getting around 5 hours of screen on time. I quickly wiped everything and flashed DotOS which had even worse battery life for me... Now I'm on MIUI 10 Global Beta and things aren't getting better... As you can see by the screenshots in the attachments, my battery is performing terribly. Moreover, 96% seems to be maximum value for my battery since I can't charge it more than that... Can someone give me an insight of what might be going on with my phone?
Unlocking the bootloader and installing custom roms might cause troubles for you and affect the performance.. you should know that.
It seems you are using 4G which drain battery faster than wifi as it appears in your screen.
Check for wakelocks, if [Timerfd] and netlink wakelock exist (with high alarms/wakelocks), then you need to reconnect the battery cable.
i get the same issues on my R5P which i bought back in May. when in install any MIUI rom, it seems that Android System is draining most of the battery.
at first i was getting 5-6 hours SOT. now i struggle to get 3-4 hours with the same usage.
i am currently on crdroid and max battery charge is 98%.
how difficult is it to open the device at reconnect the battery?
i had the same wakelock problem after instaling orange fox recovery and rooted oreo miui 9.
the only solution to wakelocks was to flash with test point method.
it was a very easy process.
for opening the back cover i have used 2 or 3 bits of plastic cutout form water bottle. use scisors for cutting plastic from water bottle.

A recovery has nothing to do with wakelocks in your ROM.

the only solution to wakelocks was to flash with test point method.
it was a very easy process.
for opening the back cover i have used 2 or 3 bits of plastic cutout form water bottle. use scisors for cutting plastic from water bottle.

After some testing several forum users reached the conclusion that test point isn't needed. Disconnecting battery is sufficient.
Test point method implies disconnecting the battery.

flashed 9.8.1.25 beta
I had to do the test method because I have locked my bootloader by mistake and then got a bootloop.
but the wakelock problem has gone
I dont know if orange fox caused the wakelocks but I got those wakelocks like in the first post picture after using orange fox for rooting oreo miui 9.
After that I tried flashing nougat 9.5.4.0 , formating data, doing all the wipes , factory reseting then restoring my backups with twrp but the wakelocks were still present.
only test point method helped me get rid of wakelocks.

yes, i disconected the battery but I had to flash with the test point method because of a bootloop and locked bootloader by mistake.

Check for wakelocks, if [Timerfd] and netlink wakelock exist (with high alarms/wakelocks), then you need to reconnect the battery cable.

use wakelock detector app.
kernel option
i had the same problem before, just discharge your battery to 0% i mean take time until your phone won't boot up and then wait an hour, then charge it for maybe 6 hours (i let mine overnight)
and repeat 3-4 times
if that doesn't work try to calibrate your battery/
good luck!
i just took the back of the phone off, disconnected the battery, reconnected it, booted it up and it charged to 100% in crdroid. testing battery life now.
Thanks for the replies. I'll most probably try the testpoint method and tell you if it worked for me.
Regarding the wake locks, app says that my phone is awake almost 70% of the time even though I used for around 2 hours in a 24 hour period... My phone is going from sleep to awake state every couple of seconds...

Tell us your results after testing
Hey.
IDK if this is going to help but here you go:
Yesterday I flashed via recovery the MIUI 10 Global Stable update for vince, working more flawlessly than Global Betas. I have tested a lot of ROMs for vince and always noticed that MIUI even 9 or 10 has worst battery than PE or any other Android Stock rom (8.1) for vince.
With this MIUI update things changed and I'm having the same statistics (or even better) as Android Stock roms for vince, now I've changed some settings before telling you this.
1- Installed MIUI Hidden Settings.
2- Opened Battery Optimization.
3- Selected all the apps that I could optimize.
Did that this morning (around 8 am) and I'm having this SOT.
Note: Mine is only charing to 98% idk why.
Want best battery life, Miui 10 Stable is shockingly best super smooth and best battery ever. The rom.
is even smoothest of all the custom roms i have tried. It is weird but Miui Stable release for Redmi 5 plus is a amazing ,

Thanks For Tips
As Per My Thinking Android System Higher Point for Battery Drain In Your Battery Uses Screenshot That Means Some Inbuilt App Use Battery
Ok so i had some problems with my battery draining fast with very little screen on time about 4-5 hours. What i did is opened the phone, disconnected battery cable, left it like that for a minute or two. Then i flashed the latest global miui 10 stable official stable rom using mi flash and flashed all data. Now my battery is once again amazing like when i first bought the phone! I get about 10 hours sot
So I opened the back of my phone and disconnected then reconnected the battery. While the back of the phone was opened, I did the test point method and entered EDL mode. I connected my phone and Windows installed the needed Qualcomm drivers. I opened MiFlash tool to try to flash the latest MIUI global stable ROM, but it always said there was an error. The error was that it couldn't receive the "hello" packet. So, unable to fix this error, I booted the phone and entered fastboot mode then flashed latest global stable ROM. Battery life improved just a tiny bit. Still getting subpar battery life with around 3-4 hours of SoT. Am I missing something or what? I am unable to believe that I managed to damage my phone's battery in less than 10 months since I don't use it for gaming.
Anybody got a clue on what to do?
