Are you getting a green glitch on your videos when exported to a computer? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

So I am making a video, and long story short I needed to use a video I have on my phone, exported it onto the computer. I filmed at 1080p 60fps, stock settings. For some reason, when exported to my computer through a cable, the videos would come out with half the video having a green glitch, while the rest was fine. Audio is fine too.
My super slo mo vids came out fine, but not my 1080p videos. So I checked in "Video Size" and same that High Efficiency Video was enabled which is never an issue. I filmed and edited HEVC videos from the iPhone 8/X at 4k 60fps with no issues. But for some reason this fixed my issue. Not sure how it will react with 4k 30fps and 60fps video. I use this phone for my YT channel, and often record for 10+ minutes, so I need this stuff to work lol. The weird thing is they both export as mp4, even though one has the HEVC codec. Pretty sure the iPhone would export as .hevc. I don't remember.
Anyone having this issue, and if so did turning HEVC off fix it?

Happened to me this weekend. Handbrake converting fixed it so it has to be something with the viewing of the HEVC S9 file and not the file's content.

720p video consumes too much

Recording in 720p eats up way too much memory. I believe it has to do with its codec (3gp). My sony camcorder can record in 1080p and eat up way less memory than my vibrant. Is there any app that will give more video codec features we can choose from?
Not sure what you mean. I recorded in 1080p at the Falcon's game last Sunday and had well over an hour worth of time to record. Not bad for a phone IMHO.
I meant that the vibrant phone camcorder records in 720p and eats up too much memory than a regular hd home camcorder would. A 10 minute video recorded from the vibrant takes up more than 700mb while a 1080p video recorded from my sony home camcorder takes up less than half of that. I think it has to do with the video format of the vibrant. I wonder if there is an app that can allow us to choose another video format other than 3gp to record with.
you cannot change the codec, and just so you know that 3gpp is just the container that holds the video but the video can be MGEP-4(XVID/DVIX) or H264 or many others. But our phones only record in H264 video and AAC audio and contain it in the 3GPP file. What I do is send my videos to youtube immediately so that they are cleared off my phone and youtube will convert them to a better H264 format and the MP4 container. So as of now you cannot change the quality of the camcorder and make it record a lesser video file.
Guess you just have to keep in mind that its a phone first, camcorder second. That's why you own a camcorder in the first place. You wouldn't expect your camcorder to get better calls than your phone would you?

I do agree that it is a phone first, but in todays world of digital everything it is nice to shed as much as you can and have an all in one device. I for one don't want to carry around a digital camera, camcorder and phone, so I picked the one that did the best of all three.
As for running out of memory there is a 32gig SD card option until someone can hack the codec to allow tweaking of the compression ratio, then again the CPU in the phone might not be able to keep up with the video being taken if it has to work to hard to compress the video more.
Not to hard to copy the files off the phone to your PC and covert away.
I believe I read that froyo firmwares record more efficiently in the MP4 container

that doesn't really make any sense. the video doesn't get put into a final true container until its done recording, its just a temp file while its doing it, and video containers dont affect quality, just playback
I know what you mean, but I believe they improved the quality as well as changing the container.

[Q] Video lag, audio out of sync?

Has anyone experienced video lagging causing audio to fall out of sync? I've been playing a small variety of .mkv files and some lag and others don't. What's most odd is that the largest file I've tried (24 minute 1.15GB, with subs) works fine, while a smaller file (24 minutes, 274MB, with subs) falls out of sync within a minute and doesn't re-sync until I move the playback head.
I've seen that other Android handsets seem to have similar issues, though the solution was usually to re-encode the file at a lower bitrate, but I don't get why a larger file would work fine while a smaller one would have sync problems?
Both video files I'm mentioning here are MPEG4 (h264), but the larger file's audio is Dolby AC3 48000Hz audio while the smaller one is AAC 44100Hz audio. I'm playing the video with mVideoPlayer and the videos are stored on the internal memory.
Edit: I've played the same file side-by-side on my laptop and phone, and it's definitely the video that's lagging.
Sorry for the bump, but I'd really like to know if anyone else is having this problem, or if there's a solution for it. No one else experiencing this problem?
I went back and tested multiple players mentioned here on the boards. I tested every player using the same file, one that lagged in the stock player and in mVideoPlayer. Here's a rundown of my results:
VPlayer: no lag, no matter what combination of settings used
RockPlayer: lags in hardware decoding mode, no lag in software decoding mode but terrible video quality (artifacting everywhere)
MoboPlayer: lags (in hardware decoding mode?), no lag in "default software decoding"
mVideoPlayer: lags
stock player: lags
I don't know what's causing the lag, but it almost seems like the players relying on hardware decoding are mainly the ones that lag. Not all files lag, just certain ones, as mentioned earlier.
usually, the reason why video & audio out of sync is the bitrate and framerate are inconsistent, in this case, i suggest u using a video tool, with the video tool, there are two solutions for you:
1. you can convert mkv to the format that compatibled well by galaxys 2
2. just import the mkv video into the tool, then adjust bitrate and framerate.
i prefer the first way, the second way you need trying many times.
for myself, i use fox real video converter, it has video audio sync technology
Thanks for the suggestions. Part of my decision to buy the GS2 was the fact that it could play large video files without conversion since I don't have the time to constantly re-encode video files. Will probably drop the $4.99 on VPlayer since it's been playing my files well. Still prefer mVideoPlayer tho.
Is there some way to check if a file has inconsistencies between bitrate and framerate as you've mentioned?
I convert MKV files to play on my PS3 with a great tool called mkv2vob. It can convert a 1.5GB movie in about 2 minutes, so I imagine it's not actually encoding at all. I'm just curious as to whether it would solve your problem, especially with it being such a quick and easy app to use.
http://www.mkv2vob.com/showthread.php?tid=1
Giving mkv2vob a shot, but it's taking far longer to convert than 2 minutes. My ~250MB file is about 25% through video transcoding, and I'm already 5 minutes in. Will report back whether it worked or not, but I don't think I'll be doing this for every video that lags.
Okey-dokey, here's what happened with the video file I converted with mkv2vob:
It output an mpg file that was unplayable or problematic in mVideoPlayer, MoboPlayer, Rock Player Lite, and lagged in VPlayer. Encoding/transcoding took about 30 minutes, and the resulting file was 337MB, up from the original's 273MB.
I guess you could say it didn't work out well. I found it interesting hat the file lagged in VPlayer where before the same file played fine before the conversion.

i don't know how to check the file, when i met this problem, i just import the file into the video tool, by viewing the preview to adjust some parameters
i have the same problem with my neverlocked and unrooted sgs2 running firmware "pda:kf3/phone:kf7": mp4 videos with x264 video codec and AAC VBR audio codec loose audio-video sync. i.e. the video lags behind and you hear people talking before they open their mouth. using xvid4psp 5.0 i experimented with the used audio codec. when recoding the videos to mp4 with x264 video codec and AAC ABR av sync is o.k.. using MP3 as audio codec also works but since AAC is the mp4 standard audio codec i'll stick to that.
and by the way: using another video player like vplayer also works with the problematic AAC VBR videos. since vplayer does software-decoding i suspect a problem with the hardware-decoding layer in combination with certain video/audio codec combinations (like x264 und AAC VBR). the benefits of hardware-accelerated-decoding are better performance and lower battery drain. therefore i want to stick with the stock-video-player (because i asume it is strictly using hardware-accelerated-decoding).

Choppy video out (using Slimport adapter)

I bought the (Slimport) nano.console (Analogix) (http://www.analogix.com/en/products/nanoconsole) on Indiegogo a couple of weeks ago so I could play recorded videos directly from the LG V10 onto my Samsung SUHD 4K (JS7000) TV. I was disappointed to see that the video playback was choppy. All ok on the device screen but choppy on the TV. Tried at 1080 p and UHD resolutions at 30 fps. I also tried using Miracast to stream wirelessly over wifi to my Chromecast. It worked. Looked like a bit lower resolution but also choppy. So, I'm thinking this issue is likely NOT with the Slimport. I'm thinking that it's something with the phone.
Anyone have any suggestions to make the video output smoother? I tried alternate video players, such as MX player and VLC player. Same thing. Thanks!
UPDATE 3/15: Heard back from Analogix. They indicate that this problem must be with the phone. They suggested making sure to close out any programs that might be occupying the processor. I did that and things look a little bit smoother. I need to play with this more when I get a minute.

V30 Internal Video Player HDR10 video Playback Issues

I ripped an UHD Bluray disc and copied the 52GB file to a MicroSD card. When I tried to play it on my V30, I found:
1. the internal video player recognizes it is HDR10, and showed a HDR10 tag.
2. the fast forward functionality is disabled. I can't FF and if I paused the movie and opened it later, it played from the start.
3. even though it supports HDR10, I noticed there is some black crush on the OLED screen.
4. it does not support the embedded forced subtitle. It does support external subtitle like a SRT file.
5. tried the MX player. It supports the embedded subtitle, but still no fast forward. It does not support HDR10, so picture quality is worse.
The biggest issue is #2, as I will only watch a segment of the film at a time. No fast forward means I have to start from the beginning of the film every time.
Exactly same issue here. The bug is known. You can use all normal features such as fast forward with VLC. HDR officially works, but doesn't work because of v30's software bug, the image is brownish in every player you try it with,no sign of HDR. They'll fix it with oreo I think.

It seems the FF-disable bug is in the hardware decoding. Every player that uses the hardware decoding has the same behavior. I hope they fix it in Oreo.
The hardware acceleration theory is interesting. Youtube HDR Videos works perfect tho on every v30, looking gorgeous.

Should work for you too.
i can play hdr10 using mxplayer on hw and hw+ decoder without any issues. your rom might have some problems

Well, the Youtube video does work, but I notice the black crush common to OLED screen. i.e. the details in the dark area is lost. The contrast and color do look good.

It is not my rom, which is T-mobile. The HDR10 video will play in HW and HW+ mode in mxplayer, but the HDR metadata is not processed, resulting in a washout picture compared to the internal video player, which handles the HDR metadata correctly. In both players, I can't do fast forward, or jump to a specific time in a movie, on my ripped UHD HDR10 mkv file.

it might not be the rom but it still is something on your side.
i have tested it with "Sony Bravia OLED 4K Demo", it's a 724MB mp4 video file with lenght of 1min and 23 seconds.
it plays the same with MX and intenal video player. i can see the washed colors u talk about when i switch to SW decoder.
i advise you to CHECK your MXPlayer's hardware decoder settings

It is playing in HW. SW mode does not work due to high bitrate HEVC. Anyway, that is not the main issue, the main issue is the player cannot jump to a specific time on the movie, so I cannot pause and watch later. I suspect it is the limitation or bug of the mediaplayer API from android.

i can asure you that i can jump to specific time with MXPlayer on the video i specified
LE: i just downloaded some more samples and they work perfectly (i can seek, no washed colors), i can use either HW or HW+.
they aslo play in SW but with washed colors, no contrast and very laggy.
something is wrong on your end for sure. try a CLEAN rom install and try playing hdr10 videos without installing or configuring anything else, not even magisk, root, viper or wahtever. just use CLEAN rom.

Well, my finding is on a ripped UHD bluray mkv. Until you can test one (think 50GB+ with full UHD bluray spec) on the mxplayer, and can fast forward and jump to specific time, it is not relevant to my issue.
By the way, the fastboot cmd is disabled in the T-mobile version V30, and root is not achieved, so it has no "magisk, root, viper or whatever." It is in the factory original ROM state.

give me a link or upload it somewhere
After the first updates to Oreo and the next, the phone never plays perfectly smooth movies, even FullHD is already slightly stuck what you see after the full-length movies (mp4 and mkv) and more so in the recordings from FullHD and 4K. I returned to Nougat and it is perfectly smooth.
This is confirmed by other users in Poland and my tests in stores - phones from oreo do not play the material from the camera smoothly in fhd 60fps and 4k, you can always see how every 0.5s there is a clasp on the prison cage.
what's worse at dynamic movie scenes, it bothers me where the 24fps film is torn up to 22fps because a few falls for a second ...

YouTube resolution

I know this is a 2k screen but YouTube will not allow the resolution 1080p is the highest anyone know why or a work around.?
It is some server sided crap. Try reinstalling the app or if that doesnt work use "youtube vanced" from xda. You could even set 4k there if you wanted without ads.
I can watch 1080p just fine with the normal youtube app, not sure about 1440p though
1080p max. Doesn't bother me, but not sure where the limitation comes from.
Just checked, it's the same on my Mate 10 Pro.
With youtube van Ed if you set it over 1080p you get problems at more than 30fps which is very stupid with this being a "mediapad" but in reality you can't tell too much difference on a 10 inch screen so it's not a deal breaker for me

videos on YouTube are encoded up to 1080p in H264 AVC format and higher resolutions are VP9 only. The M5 doesn't have a VP9 decoder, it can only decode H264 and H265 (odd cos these cost money to implement, but VP9 doesn't). So youtube falls back to H264 and plays that.
I think there is something wrong with the app itself.. Because if u play the same video in youtube on browser, it will show that u can play 2k with no problems.
I am facing the same problem and i cant find a way to fix it!!
