[VS996] Capture+ Screenshot App missing after Oreo OTA Update - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
Somehow, I lost the Capture+ app after Verizon's last OTA update to Oreo. I absolutely love using the app for taking screenshots. Would someone be so kind enough to post the APK file for me, if at all possible? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you so much! ?

Volume down + power button gives you screenshots. Has always, and still will.

Well, I'm on TMO, and I don't recall seeing that app on my H932, but on facebook they have figured out a way to prevent screenshots while on facebook.... maybe that app can bypass the browser/facebook restriction....

I don't have that app either on my US998 and never did. But you don't need it. Volume down plus power button (at the same time) will take screenshot.

I think I have a capture thingy on my phone. It's a four corner square with a pen or pencil inside it. I'm on Verizon vs996 with 8.0.0.

Well, I bit the bullet yesterday and ordered the lg v30 vs996 ( Verizon's locked edition). It was quite a mental battle, but, in the end this is what I decided on. If it doesn't work out, I can change in ten months (one year plan).
Chazz, do you have any recommendations or tips for us non bootloader unlocked guys?

On initial setup make sure you enable app drawer (it's not the default choice, instead ALL your apps on desktop is default choice).
Nova launcher, custom icon pack, install Blokada from F-Droid for ad blocking.
Enable Developer Options, turn on GPU rendering. Also, set all animation transitions to 0.5.
For right now, keep all camera settings on auto until you are sure. On selfie camera, turn down to zero all lighting and fleshtone adjustments.
I have screenshots of all my settings. I can upload them somewhere maybe this weekend.

I'll still try to upload my settings. I need to find a good share link, put all the screenshots in a folder.

Right now this is the phone that gives me as much or more than the 2014 Moto Quark (Droid Turbo/Moto Turbo/Moto Maxx) phone -- which was a cutting edge phone that was hard to surpass for at least two years.

Thnx, ChazzMatt. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the unlocked boot loader. I'm already missing getting into some of my apps that require root, specifically, Moaab, Titanium Backup and Root Explorer.
But, I will get over it, and, who knows, maybe someday someone will root it? Probably not, but maybe.
Unfortunately, I can't get the finger print reader to recognize my fingerprint. Apparently my fingerprint is somewhat worn away. It will work on others fingerprints, just not mine.
I bought a nice little Incipio case for it and screen from Verizon. Apparently, this LG is not a big seller here in Flagstaff, so they don't carry much in accessories for it. These were the only ones theyhad for it. And, he had to look for several minutes before he found them. He said they only sold about one LG v30 a month.
Nice phone, I really like it. Thanks for your guidance on it.

One trick you can use for fingerprint sensor is to "add" another fingerprint, but still use the same finger. That way you can get even more angles of the same finger. I have both index fingers (both hands) added as like 4 different fingers.

It's not really an app I don't think. It's just a tile in notifications tray. You have the same version phone as I and I have it

Chazz, I've tried that many times. My fingers do not register, but others do (6 year old g-son, daughter in law, worker at Verizon). I've tried thumb, forefinger, etc, of both hands. It just won't click on my fingers, so now I'm using face recognition, not as safe maybe, but it does work.
Thnx for the suggestion.

OP, Galaxy princess, did you ever find the capture app?
I just downloaded the v30 owners manual and it does reference the capture+ in it a few times. I am on Verizon Oreo 8.0.
Pull down the status bar at the top of the phone and you will see it there.
Also with the screen off, click the volume up button twice to open it up.
I did try those two on my phone and it did work. If you've already found it, then please disregard my post.

I had the same issue after I deleted the app called QuickMemo+. I added it back through Settings, General, Update Center, App Updates. Once it was installed again, the Capture+ icon was back when I swiped down.

This is why people have to be very careful removing "bloatware". A lot of useful stuff is interconnected.

Yeah..it's pretty great all around. I really dig it and I'm happy for the most part.
It does have some quirks about it that I'd attribute to the way LG does some things. The stupidity involving the backlight bleed on the second screen is an embarrassment of engineering and the peculiar way the screen brightens and dims at times even though the auto sense is turned off.
I come from a rooted Note 3 with a really clean custom ROM.

You will man! I just turned off that function as I found it annoying, so I just have shortcut icons on it when the screen is unlocked.
The camera is pretty bleepin impressive...and I just found a sweet spot with the HDAC driver and Viper FX working in combo....vroom!

Hell ya. I like the second screen i use it as a media player options. The time and date, and quick short cuts to contacts. The camera is awesome. I do love it and see its a bit better then the g4. No needing to mod this camera like i did on my g4. This camera seems to work with my green screen with the manual video options. It make chroma keying easyer as it feels plus i control the color temp . My g4 wants to stay in a warmer color then cool but its because the lighting. So far i love this phone and i can study more into photography and video editing

Can i root if so how?

I have an LGUS992. Thanks

It was repeated all over in the G5 section, the only unlockable version is the european H850.
Also the H830 has root and twrp, but these are the only two models.
Thats dumb.

One has to realize that the developers who courageously "get root" for us do so on their own time. Not only that, on their own dime as well. In the trial and error process of unlocking the bootloader the risk of nuking their devices is high (and quite a few developers have nuked this model and others). And they go and buy another, so they can continue development. This gets very expensive.
And most importantly, with devices like the G5 - it takes time.
So while it's easy for one to respond "that's dumb", etc - I guess the above points are completely disregarded. Or perhaps not even known in the first place.
Most importantly, we are at the will of the developers. If they feel they are being disrespected, amongst other things - it would not be unreasonable for them to halt development. Please keep all of this in mind.

I understand all that they go through and are doing and i appreciate it, i meant no disrespect. Im just saying its dumb that lg doesnt let you unlock the bootloader. I came from a moto x 2014 and all i had to do to unlock the bootloader was sign up on a website and do some other stuff.

At this point, the h830 and h850 are the only models that can be rooted due to being able to unlock the bootloader.
Hey guys, just one question for those of you who already have root. Didn't want to open a new thread.
When using Nova launcher, are you able to unlock the phone without it requesting a pin to be entered?
I really need this answer, going nuts with a stock launcher

Under Lockscreen I selected "None" and never have to enter a pin - I do use Nova, but I'd assume it would be the same with any launcher? Unless I'm completely missing the point here

First of all thank you for responding
Well the point is, with LG stock launcher you can set up pin protection but it works in conjunction with the fingerprint reader meaning that when you unlock the screen with fingerprint phone is not asking for a pin entry. You are however able to double tap to power the screen and then enter pin to unlock if for some reason you do not want to use reader.
Let me ask again Are you able to do mentioned above with Nova and root? Can you maybe test for me

Good grief, what a pain to set that up
Sometimes I can unlock it by just touching it with the finger I set up, but other times I get "Unable to use fingerprint" and have to use the pin. I'd say it's about 50/50
No idea why it sometimes works and other times doesn't, but I'm removing the lock again now ... way too much hassle

Hey man, I'm also using Nova Launcher on my LG G5 H860 (no root tho - obviously - woe is me!), and I use the finger print scanner AND a pattern. I think LG suspect that the fingerprint scanner alone is not enough security, so they make us use a pattern or pin on top of that. At least that's my guess since I was immediately prompted to add the pin, password or pattern after setting up my fingerprints. Also, upon rebooting, EVERY TIME I have to put in my pattern. The fingerprint alone is not enough to gain access.
I'm guessing it would depend on the ROM you use, not particularly the launcher. But let us know how you go... Have you rooted yet?
Nice avatar BTW. \m/

It's actually a backup option I think, in case when fingerprint reader fails. Makes sense
System is not letting other apps take control over the phone even though they are listed as device administrators. It's a new security measure introduced with MM.
Of course everything changes when you have root privileges
I've rooted the phone yesterday. Nova can now unlock the phone with just a fingerprint. Also installed the Viper audio mod and deleted a few system apps.
Right now I'm investigating how to prolong the super brightness mode so it can last longer than lousy two minutes
Glad to hear someone appreciates the sound of perseverance \m/ \m/

The PIN is, just as you said, a backup security measure. If you're rooted you can go and download a fingerprint add on through Xposed.. that means Only your fingerprint is needed to unlock your device.

Don't have G5 so I can't test or even know if what I'm saying is correct, but I was looking through the G5 git tree and saw the super brightness mode seems to be called HL_MODE standing for LGE_HIGH_LUMINANCE_MODE, there's referenced to it in the code, you could probably edit it there then compile and it will most likely work, however it seems it's also with references to the kernel so you probably gonna have to edit both the kernel and ROM simultaneously to make things easier...

IR Remote App

Hi all, I'm sure not everyone uses the IR blaster and the quick remote app but here's to those who use it daily.
The LG quick remote app, isn't really that quick - no widget, or quick access from your homescreen, afaik. Other apps I use to find handy was the anymote but somehow, it shows that the LG v20 is unable to learn new codes, which is totally false since the LG app is able to do that.
Does anyone have a better recommendation of the app they use? Feel free to chip in please!

Galaxy remote looks pretty sleek! Fingers crossed it learns code on the v20 too!
I use anymote from the play store. Out of all I've tried, it's the best one so far
I'm definitely one of those who use the IR Blaster daily and it was a major factor in getting the v20, but unfortunately from what I've read LG doesn't follow standard IR protocols so most universal apps claim to not support LG devices. I used to use Smart Remote (which eventually turned into Anymote) and none of my devices work with it so can't use it, and I haven't tried peel yet but I have tried a lot of other different IR apps and the couple that actually worked seemed to be spotty at best. I was really disappointed that I can't use Anymote because I loved the way I had it setup and I've been forced to use quick remote which like the OP said basically sucks, so I'm really hoping someone figures something out or is able to find a universal app that works the way it should with this phone.

Smart remote- anymote is working on TiX rom. On the stock rom it did not work for me. But on TiX rom it is working. In the other ir remote thread some stated to have alternate controls toggled on. It is on on mine and the remote is working.

Ok thanks for the info I'll definitely give it shot and post my results whenever I get a chance. I was also going to edit my previous post because I came across a decent IR app on the Play store I had never heard of before called "Sure", and I haven't had a chance to see if recording is available or not and if it works or if includes any widgets yet. I can say it does cover a huge amount of devices and all of the ones I've tried so far work exactly like they should, I only had a few minutes to mess with it this afternoon but so far it seems like a pretty decent app.

and i'll be Sure to take a look at that too. Haven't had time to tinker with the app yet. Yeah, anymote needs to have the alternate ir control thing on for it to work.
another thing is the blaster's ranges seems to be intermittent at times, or perhaps just a very narrow direct pointing field. most times it has to be direct for the commands to work.

Just from using for 2 days I can already completely agree with you on that! What really blew me away was the ability to create a custom button that you can manually add the hex or decimal ir code to! I've had this hdmi switch that I got a long time ago (and of course it was missing the remote) that I had all but given up on because I could never find it listed as a device on any of the apps I've tried, and when I figured out you could manually enter ir hex codes with Galaxy I looked it up online and found them.. and then Bob's your uncle I can control it with my phone now! I'm sure there are probably other apps that also let you manually add the ir codes, but that along with all of the customization options and being able to add widgets makes Galaxy the best one imo too!

haha, yeah. on that note, i must say the quick bulletin doesn't really serve much use. i miss the old days of my HTC one with the quick feed and integration.
i'm currently trying to figure out how to decode the ir commands since galaxy does not learn the codes or have the codes to my devices. T__T

I'm sure there are probably other apps that also let you manually add the ir codes, but that along with all of the customization options and being able to add widgets makes Galaxy the best one imo too!

i've been raking the net for codes for my panasonic wall fan, and this europace casement air-conditioning unit.
hitting a stump there, if only i could figure out how to rip those codes off the different apps.
I like anymote the best been using it since my note 2

Have you tried using the code scan feature that Galaxy has to see if it finds it? I'm kind of in the same boat with an oscillating floor fan that I have in my room, and after 2 days of searching online I finally emailed the Galaxy devs last night to see if they could send me the code. I was surprised because they actually responded pretty quickly and they suggested I try the scan option and see if it finds it (I knew it was there but I completely forgot to try it so as soon as I get home from work I'm going to give it a shot), and they said if that doesn't work then they should be able to find the code I need and send it to me. So I have to say Galaxy Universal was worth every penny and I can't say enough good things about it!
As far as ripping codes off of other apps that would be awesome and yeah I wouldn't even know where to begin. One thing I've been wondering ever since I found out quick remote can record IR codes (meaning that our IR blasters can also receive), is if it would be possible for someone to create an app that could show the IR hex codes of whatever remotes you point at it because that would be forkin awesome. I have no idea what the limitations are though I just figured if quick remote can duplicate an IR code from another remote, you'd think it would at least be possible to create an app that can display the code info instead of just duplicating it. Anyway hope you get it figured out and if I'm able to get mine working I'll post the results.

Google Pics Missing Feature?

So I have a pixel3. My mom has a galaxy s8. My wife has an LG v30.
My mom and I have the option in Google pics to "add people or pets" to an album to make a smart album (or whatever it's called). It works great.
My wifes v30, which has the same version of Google pics as my mom and I, is missing this option. When she goes to create an album it just has "add pictures", not the "add people or pets" feature.
I can't figure out why. Any thoughts??

What firmware is she running, what variant model does she have?
Some carriers remove features, but this would be strange to remove.
Here's what hers looks like. Again, same version of the app. I can't fully uninstall because it's a system app but I uninstalled the updates and reinstalled them. Same thing.

It's probably partly because of the pixel configs in my mod. There's even configs in I'm not sure of what they do. Seeing what pixel features can be ported. It also means we get features sooner since Google always give the pixel first access

Also my wife has the pets and friends feature in Google Photos and her phone isn't bootloader unlocked and rooted. She's on US998 on 20E, but she's total stock.
Guess Verizon doesn't like pets and friends?

I don't normally use Google photos, but this morning I tried it, and I do get the "automatically add photos of people and pets" screen the ChazzMatt posted earlier. I'm on stock Verizon.

This feature can't be removed by any carrier or OEM.
It was my understanding that when it popped up on my device, it was a feature that Google is testing. Which means a server side switch.

Just to clarify, last week my Google play store showed up in pure white. No green AT ALL.
After a factory reset, I can't get the all white back. Wish I could but again, it's a server side switch.

If you remember, when Google first pushed it, black people accused Google of being racist because they got tagged as monkeys and apes.
LMFAO as if an algorithm could be racist.
So Google pulled is in less then 3 days. They have been working on it.

Advise on buying new LG V30

So I have left LG for some few years now but I want to return. Please I want to buy an LG phone and V30 is the best option for me with no notch. Please can someone give me advice on this? I remember LG phones are usually faulty when they first come out so is there a model number I should avoid? Thanks a lot .

I think h930, 930ds etc are the best one because all the custom development works for them.
See if you can buy v35. It's the same as v30 but with upgraded Snapdragon 845

Thanks for they reply. But my rooting days are over. Software development is not an issue for me. I just want a LG V30 that works perfectly without maybe screen issues, batteries drain etc.

Where do you live? For instance in you live in North America, you do not want H930 or H930DS as they don't have the major carrier bands.
For most people in Europe, H930/H930G.
Most everyone else, US998 V30+ or LS998 V30+ (which can easily be converted into US998 V30+). V30+ has 128GB internal memory.
Thanks for the replies. I was actually asking about defects that may have plague some v30 units during it's initial release. Like for example I heard some early models screens have blue when you look at it from the side etc. I will definitely see if it has network issues before paying. Thanks

The blue off screen viewing never bothered me, since I don't care that other people can't read my texts/emails.
I'm the one looking straight at my phone, so there's no blue. Why would YOU look at your phone from the side?
This was discussed in depth by early adopters and isn't an issue. See, problem is reviewers HAVE to find something wrong. They have to find pros and cons, because (except for XDA editors and their obsession with OnePlus) no phone can be perfect. And if early reviewers make it seem like something "CATASTROPHIC!" for their review headline, they will get more web views.
This phone was the best phone of 2017.

The off axis blue tint was the biggest bull**** I've heard reviewers say, probably ever. I've put this phone side by side with the Galaxy S9+, and the amount of blue tint is almost identical, as well as the overall quality of the display. Yet the Galaxy was praised for the display, while the V30's display was the most negative point they could bring up about the phone. The only REAL problem LG V30 had was the uneven display brightness that plagued the early models, and even that was only noticeable on very low brightness in the dark.

Well said.
Thank you all again for your replies. My new V30 will here tomorrow
Hi so i just got my new LG V30 6 days ago and every thing was going great till 2 days ago I decided to update to pie via OTA. After the update the wifi signal is really poor. I now get frequent disconnect when using wifi. I have to sit next to my router before I get steady connection. Please what could be the problem?

Which V30 variant did you get? I assume one of the H930 since only they and the Korean variants have Pie?
Possibly factory reset can fix the issue, but this is one reason I don't like taking partial image OTA vs flashing full image KDZ.
Possible solutions:
* Factory Reset
* Reinstall Pie via LGUP Refurbish mode
* Downgrade back to most recent Oreo, until you're ready to try Pie again. See post #2 of the EU H930 KDZ thread. This is assuming you have H930?

Well, the solutions I mentioned are still valid except you need your variant KDZ, not H930.

The Dev Patched LGUP I would use is attached to post #2 of this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79964731&postcount=2
Those instructions are for downgrading H930, so ignore that. It's the version of LGUP attached to that post which I'm talking about. Install it, choose your Korean variant Pie KDZ you wish to flash and use "Refurbish" mode.

I was just about to start then remember I do not know which mode to set my phone on. should I put it in download mode or file transfer mode?
Update. I have flash the pie kdz with LGUP process set to refurbish and phone in download mode then factory reset. Still very very crappy wifi connection. My old galaxy s4, note 4, s7 and PC all connects easily and stays connected until I disconnect them. But my V30 will take time to connect and disconnect in like 10 seconds later. I will have to keep connecting about 20 times in a roll before it will finally connect well. Even then, a little distance from my router will disconnect it and then I will have to start trying to connect again. I am presently downloading Oreo. Will see if Oreo will solve my problem, as I am not exactly sure if the problem only started after OTA pie update.
All good in Oreo. I really love Pie tho
