Immersive mode note 8 oreo - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I found this article for immersive mode for galaxy devices but upon updating to oreo, my note 8 is not going on immersive mode on the home screen and app screen.
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...re-screen-real-estate-no-root-needed-0177297/

I didn't know this was a thing.
I just have my taskbar come up when I need to, so just double tap it and it'll "un-stick" it!
Then whenever you need to access one of the buttons, you just swipe up and it's there.
I've found it particularly natural to use!

the article also includes full immersive mode (nav bar and status bar). in nougat it was system wide. now in oreo, it doesn't work in home screen and app screen

I'm fine having the Status Bar on the homepage, and the nav bar with the swipe function has turned in to a must. Using bxActions, i've remapped the Bixby button to get immersive mode in apps, which is where i need it, even though it has strange artifacts like the typing box on messaging apps tends to go a bit underneath the keyboard, but i got used to it.

Are you talking about a BAR showing across the top of the screen on the home page? I am on what CRC2 and.. no bar.

yes. i am also on crc2. i reset my phone twice and still showing status bar and nav bar on home screen and apps screen. maybe there is something on my phone.

i'm on Oreo and using an app in Playstore "Shortcutter Quicksettings "( paid version )
for the Immersive mode mode function .
But the free version is ......
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.leedroid.shortcutter
You have to do a small ADB enabling on pc .
Works fine, you can also configure immersive mode
in Shortcutter app settings and have add a shortcut to your device screen to quickly enable either
" off/full/no statusbar/no nav "
Not sure if this function is fully available in free version .
I think you can also enable per app also .
Check it out if you really want immersive mode .
I have been using this app for a long time ( on and off )
i had no issues with app .
good luck

I use Shortcutter only for Immersive mode, as i can easily change modes with a tap.
You can either hide Statusbar /or Nav bar /or both or just tap off. (widget shortcut)
Take look at screenshots.
I'm sure it will answer your question.?
Good luck
Just to add, no root necessary.
Just a straight forward ADB command
that the dev gives clear example and guide.
Also had no issues with battery use.
Further in Shortcutter you can place cutom quick settings tiles for apps of your choice.
For me it's a good quality app, that i
have been using on and off for a long time.

Me, too.
I use APPs or ADB commands that all can't let home screen to immersive mode.
My phone is Note8 with Android 8.0.
Anyone could find the way to do that?

I use shortcutter in my Note8 with Android 8.0, but it couldn't use full immersive mode in homescreen, only hiding status bar could work in homescreen.

The toogle doesn't works. Have I to mod something else or activate it from other settings?

hi ,
The toggle does work .
I uninstalled Shortcutter and re installed to see if its works .!
No issues .
all i did was go to Shortcutter app /manage permissions/ Settings secure Access/ tap on it .....
then follow dev instruction ..go to his website (as listed )
Then on laptop launch ADB /adb devices ...etc /then copy and paste the command as listed on website ,enter and check your phone if it accepted the cmd
Go to Shortcutter /Settings ..scroll down to near bottom ..Immersive mode /Select mode,
tap that and show active Notification .
I have NOVA Prime .
I select Nova widgets and select the Shortcutter widget .and the choose Immersive icon in options .
(see screenshots ......................................)
Yes, it seems you skipped maybe a step .?
If not working, your ADB cmd did not stick !
I have some screenshots on laptop if you need to see ADB snapshots .?
Just asked again .
i cannot upload more than 4 snapshots at a time .
Good luck
post note
in my last screenshot its best to select "show mode selector option " ( this is for your widget option, on your home screen )or otherwise just choose .
It will then give you all options " off/full/no statusbar/no nav"
Place widget and tap on it and select mode .

Yes, in all my years I've never used Samsung experience @ TouchWiz .
Wouldn't know what it can do, apart from that it's
quite limited (sometimes)
Always used Nova Prime.
Just so many tweaks, options etc.
Anyway each, their own preferences.

[MOD][XPOSED] Niwatori - One Handed Mode

**** THIS PROJECT IS NO LONGER MAINTAINED ****
Niwatori changes the display position of apps. The target device is a smartphone that has about 5-inch display because the purpose is one-handed operation.
Thanks to rovo89, I can use this on Lollipop!
Niwatori provides three one-handed modes:
- Movable Screen
- Slide Down
- Small Screen.
They work temporary, NOT permanent.
**
Niwatori was my local version of Flying Android. I released Niwatori since Xposed framework supports Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Differences:
- Abolished FA Toggle, pin, flying dialog and notification shortcut features.
- Control the window only from shortcuts.
- Move the status bar and the dialogs in the same way as the apps.
**
Compatibility
NIWATORI CONFLICTS WITH OTHER MULTIWINDOW AND ONE-HANDED SYSTEM.
I test on Nexus 4 with Stock ROM. Niwatori should work on Nexus devices running Stock. And I support CyanogenMod if Niwatori works with small special code for CM.
Usage
Create shortcut for one-handed mode by Niwatori on sub-launcher , such as Pie control.
[MY USAGE 1] Navigation Bar and Gravity Box
Use shortcuts:
Movable Screen
Pin
[MY USAGE 2] LMT Launcher's Pie
Use shortcuts:
Small Screen
Swap Left/Right
Expand notifications with extra action (Small Screen)
Testing (v0.4.5)
[DEV] Nexus 4, Android 5.1.1
Nexus 9. Android 6.0.0
Download
Xposed Module Repository
Google Play for Premium Settings
Translation
Volunteers are welcome to translate text (strings) to your language.
Download strings and edit two files:
- strings.xml
- strings_activity_settings.xml
And send them to me Note that text encoding of android is UTF-8.
If possible, place them in your language folder. ('values-ja' for Japanese, 'values-ru' for Russian, etc.)
Troubleshooting
Turn on "Log Actions" in niwatori's settings and call a shortcut for one-handed mode. Then Xposed framework logs as follow.
Code:
04-21 08:25:47.553 24125-24125/? I/Xposed﹕ jp.tkgktyk.xposed.niwatori.intent.action.SMALL_SCREEN
04-21 08:25:47.556 24125-24125/? I/Xposed﹕ NFW(ModActivity$20#onReceive): jp.tkgktyk.xposed.niwatori consumed: jp.tkgktyk.xposed.niwatori.intent.action.SMALL_SCREEN
The first line is shortcut (action) name, above case is Small Screen, and the second line logged who consumed the action by package name, above is niwatori settings. If the consumer isn't expected package, add the package into blacklist in niwatori settings.

Good Job!
It seems to be the first module which has updated to adapt for new Xposed on Lollipop!
But i'm new to FlyingAndroid/Niwatori. My Device has no virtual navigation buttons and can't call the app as you shown on Youtube. is it now possible to call the app and scale the screen out by setting some kind of triggers???
Thanks in advance!

I got it, finnaly. You can add a gesture to every setting. But I see no use to it fi I can't put 2 window in the same screen.
@GalaxyS4_Lollipop;
 @Demonbane_x;
Trigger for Niwatori is shortcut. The "shortcut" is the same as ordinary shortcuts of any apps. So you can fire "shortcut" from home app, launcher app, GravityBox's action (works on lollipop?) , etc.
This mod moves the display position of foreground app, but not show multiple apps. In the screenshots, I only show one app (Niwatori UI) and expanded statusbar.
This module not working on MIUI 6.

I like the idea of making floating apps, but if you can't put two apps in one window , I don't know for what to use it.
You are a good developer , I hope you will make an app like XHaloFloatingWindow for lollipop in future.
doesn't fly the window
I associate the "toggle" NFW action with a gesture via GMD Gesture Control. When I execute the gesture, it doesn't fly the window. Instead, it opens the Niwatori settings app.
I should add that most of the time it does nothing at all. I know I'm executing the gesture correctly because I get the correct haptic feedback. I'm using the paid app.
Seems promising, gonna try it out
Amazing app!
One problem I saw that came up was that I was no longer able to perform the second pull-down of the notification bar from the middle of the screen; instead, I now have to reach my thumb upwards far more.
I think the module changes the trigger area. Can you check this out? It would make life easier!
And by second pull-down, I mean the method to get from notifications to toggles (bt, wifi, etc.)

XHaloFloatingWindow is one of the best modules. I cannot make such app.
But I cannot use halo window efficiently because my phone doesn't have enough display size for multi window. On the other hand, I don't reach thumb at the top of the screen. I need to pull down the screen.

Please check these points:
If you fire the "toggle" action from the other launcher (e.g. home app), does the "toggle" work fine?
Close Niwatori settings app before you use its actions.
If you need a refund, please tell me your order number by email or private message on XDA.
EDITED: I tried GMD Gesture Control, however it says "no supported device". (because of lollipop?)

Right, GMD currently doesn't work on Lollipop.
I tried closing Niwatori settings before using its actions, but it still doesn't work.
I put the NFW actions widget on my home screen (selecting "toggle"), but when I press the widget, nothing happens.
Thanks, but I won't bother with the refund: I'm glad to throw you the support, and I'll keep re-testing the app every time you update. I hope you can try some things to make it work on my S4.

@Jimmy34742;
Thank you for your cooperation.
I found a fatal error in the settings. Depending on the combination of settings, it is not possible to change the window mode and move the app.
Please disable "Reset automatically" option basically. It is useful only when to fire actions from recents button.

I have "reset automatically" switched off, but it still doesn't work. If I don't back out of Niwatori's before going to another app, then the shortcut will re-enter Niwator at the same point. But if I exit Niwatori by backing out of it, then my shortcut just does nothing.

You're mistaken on both points! It does work quite well, and it has been updated for lollipop. I've been using it since lollipop Xposed was released (even before it was 'officially' supported, it worked on version 2.38... It's now been updated to version 2.41)
I would ask to add double-click on a recent. In CM12 like as long press is already taken - switch between the last two applications.
The ability to run the application down to the user is in the Donut version?

Yeah it's annoying me too, I've already minimized by accident a handful of times when I was trying to swipe down to get the notifications bar. If you find a setting let us know!
Very annoying
This is how it works... Don't know how you disable it though
So now you’ve mastered Multi Window mode, but there’s something else of note tangentially connected to that. Samsung included a cool feature from the Note 4 called Pop-up View that works with any app that supports Multi Window (and only those apps). Basically, you get a resizeable floating app window that you can move around the screen. You can even have more than one and minimize them to floating icons.
There are three ways to go about this: long press on an app in the multitasking UI, drag down from the top right corner when an app is open, or use the pop up button when you have an app in Multi Window mode.
You can arrange these floating windows however you want, drag content between them, and maximize them to full screen at any time.

I don't think you can disable it, unfortunately. I hope someone proves me wrong though.
I was looking for this too. As soon as i got the device I kept accidentally re-sizing windows.
How do you resize windows on the s6 edge? There should be a setting under device called multiwindow...I know my note 4 has it, but I can not find it on the newer lollipop device.

start from left or right top corner, quickly swipe down to the bottom of the other corner, like from top left to bottom right.
I found the new MultiWindow gesture pretty annoying. On my S6 every time I swept down on the notification bar using one hand I'd always create a floating window. On other Galaxy devices there is a Quick Toggle to turn the MultiWindow feature off/on. The ability to control the feature is still in the S6 however it is not exposed in the user interface. I wrote a small application that can either enable/disable MultiWindow or bring back the MultiWindow Quick Toggle. It was primarily written for the Galaxy S6 however it should work on most of the devices that include Samsung's MultiWindow. Look for " MultiWindow Toggle for Samsung" on the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nerd.multiwindowtoggle

Worked perfectly on my G920V. Thanks!! I am amazed that Samsung hid the ability to disable this feature given how annoying and (seemingly) unnecessary it is with the new app switcher.
Worked brilliantly - thanks!
Simple
To disable it simply go to
Settings - (Device) Multi window - and disable Pop up view shortcut.
Tested on my Note 4 with android 5.0.1 stock
Ok you guys need to tap the soft key not push it because if you do you are going to get a split screen! Try it go on FB and then push and hold the left soft key and see what happens! My wife was doing the same thing!
There is a multi window toggle app for free in the app store
On my note 3: settings > display > multi window > (uncheck) pop-up view shortcut

Lock screen weirdness

Xiaomi has made some very strange choices regarding the lock screen:
1) By default anyone has access to the camera from the lock screen. You have to turn that off in Settings (Lock screen & password > Lock screen shortcuts - disable "Right").
2) There's a strange four-leaf clover symbol in a disk at the top right that gives access to the Wallpaper Carousel. Press the symbol and you get a "Terms and Conditions" dialog. It gives access to buttons at the bottom and swipe left to access Wallpaper Carousel. So anyone who borrows your phone can do things with it. I don't know how to prevent this. I've found no setting to get rid of the clover disk.
3) The status bar is active on the Lock screen with no apparent way to disable it. That gives access to all your toggle buttons, so your connection, your wi-fi and you bluetooth can be turned on or off by anyone. The brightness can be changed, notifications read. The only way I can see to stop access to the toggle buttons is to separate the Notifications & toggles layout (under: Notifications & status bar), which means that you don't have access to them when you've unlocked the phone. Anyone know how to take the status bar off the Lock screen?
This is all very bizzare.
About access status bar on the lockscreen, you can disable it in the settings->Notification&Status bar->last one:"Show on lockscreen"

I saw the setting, changed it, looked at the result and didn't see any difference, so I went back, saw it was headed "Notification Shade", and I didn't understand it so I thought it must have been something else. But I never tested the notification bar. It actually does the job, so thank you! (And I kick myself.)
I just have to find a solution for the first problem now.

Actually, as I couldn't see any change, I reset it. Your post made me look at it again more closely!
All I need to know now is how to get rid of the Wallpaper Carousel and the four-leaf clover button from the lock screen and I'll be happy.
So I successfully disabled Wallpaper Carousel by using an app called Ice Box which requires root access. Is your device rooted ?

Thanks for the post. I haven't rooted the phone as yet: I still need to get the bootloader unlocked for the TWRP route.
I just uninstalled the Wallpaper Carousel, which also had the desired effect of closing up a gap in the lockscreen.
A ok ! Glad you were able to uninstall it Miui comes with a lot of bloatware preinstalled so you have to tinker around a little bit. I'm eagerly waiting for a stable aosp custom rom for this device to switch to it as I can't stand Miui
Hi guys, is there any way to disable the MIUI lockscreen and use a third party app? I like Muzei with Bing image of the day 😁

You can disable the stock lock screen by going to Setting > Screen lock & fingerprint > Turn off lock. . . .
If you don't have an app wallpaper carousel that's dedicated to the lock screen, you might look at this post on the MIUI forum.

Disabling navbar

Is there a way to disable the navbar and not just hide it? I want to be able to use gestures without having the navbar appearing when I swipe from the bottom.

install Nova Launcher 5.2
Clearly not what he's looking for. Currently there's no option to disable it altogether globally. Only option to hide it on a per app basis, which not all apps support.

It should be what he's looking for. He may not be aware of launchers. Who uses the stock launcher?

I was looking for a way to completely disable it but I don't think it's possible without root. I enabled expended mode via ADB but my ultimate goal was to not make it appear when I scroll up from the bottom so I can use apps such as all in one gesture
There are some ways, but i guess they all need root. there is an xposed module : xposed edge pro, that can remove the navbar. or you can change the build.prop hw.mainkeys=1
i did that but the thing is when you completely remove the navbar every app that is not set to 18:9 scaling will not load. just give a black screen. that is not a problem as you can just switch all apps to 18:9 scaling in settings. except some few system dialogs that will not show anymore like the longpress menu when e.g. clicking on a link in chrome or on a message to copy it.
iv been on that issue for a long time now. it is definitely related with completely removing the navbar as the system then does not scale some screens accordingly anymore.
i tried the build.prop, whereas there are more settings related with the screen and ratio (ro.lge.app_scaling=1) (ro.lge.aspect.ratio=18:9) and (qemu.hw.mainkeys=1) i dont know what the first two settings really do but i tried different settings
then there is the possibility via the xposed edge app, which does not change the build.prop. so it hast to change it in some other way, i dont know.
and i found a thread to change scaling via the service menu *#546368#*930# -svc menu -force long display mode -on from this thread.
ive tried all different settings combined in different ways and was not able to remove the navbar without that problem.
if anybody has more knowledge i would be glad to have some help
cheers DK

Agreed. I had an issue with the nav bar NOT appearing when I wanted. It kept disappearing in my corporate email and I had to force it up from the bottom to appear. I was puzzled, why is this happening only with this app? I finally figured out how to go into the nav bar settings and disable that for that app. For some reason that app (called Nine) was enabled to hide the nav bar.
I have the opposite problem. Except for when I'm watching videos, I do want to see the nav bar. This screen is tall enough that I don't need a totally "immersive" experience just reading email or looking at news articles.
And I use Nova launcher, of course. Who uses stock launcher?
There's this guide for a galaxy S8 but I haven't gotten it to work on my V30. I don't know if APKs are device specific or should work for all android devices. I have also been looking for a way to disable my nav bar.

Nobody. Except launchers still have nothing to do with what OP was looking for. I switch between Nova and action launcher and would recommend them to anyone not using as well, just baffled that he asked how to disable navbar entirely and the answer was install Nova...followed by the assertion that he needs to be told this even though its not what he asked and there was nothing to suggest he's not already using a 3rd party launcher

Tried the apk. Does not work on v30

Yeah didn't work for me either. I was hoping APKs were universal to Android.
It seems like there are ways to disable the nav bar without rooting the phone but not yet for the V30. I saw some forums on the OnPlus 5T mentioning some apps that would do it but they didn't exist in my play store for some reason

You can allow specific apps to hide the navbar, or there is a universal as well. It can be found in setting/display/Home Touch Buttons

I found how to hide the nav bar for specific apps months ago (and indeed have all of the available apps flicked to off), but I cannot find the universal switch anywhere. Where exactly is it?
Under Settings/Display/Home Touch Buttons, I only see three options: Button combination, Color, and Hide Home Touch Buttons.
The Hide Home Touch Buttons screen is the one I found months ago, but I don't see a universal switch there.
Thanks.

For me, when I go to Home Touch Buttons in settings and click "Hide Home Touch Buttons" it gives me a list for every app where I can toggle to hide the home buttons. There's also a toggle option at the top of this page that says "Lock/hide icon" -- that's the universal button.
Though this doesn't hide the home buttons on the home screen for me. Does it hide them on the home screen for anyone else? I can't figure out how to do that and my Nova launcher prime doesn't have the option.

Thought that was just the icon that shows up on the left-hand side of the nav bar when in an app where the nav bar can be hidden.
That's not a universal on/off switch for the nav bar system-wide, is it?

A Way To Remove Navigation Bar in Android 8.0 for Note 8 (NO ROOT REQUIRED)

The way we used to set navigation bar's height to 0 DOES NOT work anymore!!!
Here I want to share a way that I use to remove the annoying nav bar WITHOUT ROOT.
If you are interested, you can try it. I currently have a SAMSUNG NOTE 8 UNLOCKED running Android 8.0
I discovered this method based on luisshnyder's method (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/remove-oreo-navbar-completely-t3772217), but I did more to resolve some problems he didn't mention.

After using my method, what's working:
1. A full screen with no navigation bar in any circumstance even in landscape mode or input method pops up.
2. Hard press working all the time, including when the phone is locked, screen off or unlocked status.
3. Screen capture working and also scrolling screen capture working (many users want this!)
4. You can swipe or other gestures to perform go back, home, recent app or many other functions.
What's not working:
The lock screen shortcuts cannot be displayed correctly under WQHD resolution.
Overall, you need the following software
1) Android 8.0 Oreo installed
2) All in one gesture (Free, in PlayStore)
3) FloatingMenu 6.1.9 (Free, but Pro Version works much better, don't use PlayStore version, use the apk attached)
4) All necessary software needed to run adb commands. You may need to learn how to install and use adb command line.
Now let's start:
0. Go back to your phone's default settings if you tried any other methods before (ignore this if you didn't).
1. Go to Seetings -> Display -> Navigation bar, UNcheck "Show and hide button".
2. Install All in one gesture.
2.1. Configure this app's settings in the way you like. I use 12 Hotspots Straight Swipe and make Bottom, Left, Center to be Recent, Home and Back.
2.2. Go to Personalization -> Edge Preference, Leave Opacity as it is, we'll deal with it later. set other scrollbars the way you like, I use the following value: Edge Sensitivity 50px, Edge Width 100%.
3.3. Go back to Personalization, make sure Auto Rotation is checked, while Behind Keyboard is UNchecked. For me, to make it better, I also Unchecked Toast Message and checked Animation.
3. Install FloatingMenu 6.1.9, DO NOT use PlayStore version, use the apk attached.
3.1. Configure your bottom bar the way you like, but make sure the Height is more than 200. You may need to buy the Pro version to use all three bottom bars.
3.2. Go to Settings, make sure you UNcheck "Reposition when IME appears", and set "Auto hide when landscape" to "Hide all".
3.3. Go to Advanced settings, make sure you UNcheck "Max window level", and check "Cover softKeyboard".
4. Plug-in your phone to a computer with adb environment, make sure USB debugging is ON. (Learn more about adb if you don't know this before operating)
5. In the command line, run: adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,-com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture
6. In the command line, run: adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,-168
7. Fully test your phone, then make the bottom bar transparent to make it more beautiful.
8. For users who use WQHD resolution only: Go to Settings -> Lock screen and Security -> App shortcuts, then turn off both shortcuts.
9. Sometimes you need to reboot your devices.
=========================================================================================
If you want to undo the effect you made by the above two adb commands, here are the two "Recover Commands":
adb shell settings put global policy_control null
adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,0

Hi Frank,
Did you find any fix or workaround for edge lighting at the bottom?

Thanks so much for this. This works perfectly
skewing/cropping problem
I followed all the steps on my Note8 but the homescreen and app drawer appear skewed to the right a little bit like there's an empty space on the left of the icons while the far right column icons are cropped in half, any solution for that ??
Update: I found that this problem is caused by changing the Screen Zoom (in Display settings) to the Small setting. If I set it to normal or Large, then nothing is wrong,,, except that I've grown so used to having small screen items that even the normal setting looks huge now to me. If there is any fix to this, that would be much appreciated.
First of All, thank you so much. Your guide works like a charm.
At one point I'm facing a problem with floatingmenu. It's all in Chinese and exept some basic knowlege about the Charakters. I'm unable to find die right settings.
An way major thanks!
Some app, something is below the navibar, cant display correctly
It ist possible to switch the language. Just go to the last bar in the first page and change the 5th setting. After pressing on the settings a windows appears with the option "English" .
Just use substratum and the system mods theme. I have nav bar hidden and just use gestures

Going to try that! Thanks! Paired with good lock is going to be awesome.
I use navigation gestures and one hand operation +. It works flawlessly.
