Has anyone else NOT received the T-Mobile Note 8 OREO update yet? HELP! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

I just bought a used Tmobile Note 8 from Swappa. It arrived running Nougat and when I try to update, it says the device is up to date. The seller stated "Tmobile Version that has been fully paid for and unlocked. Was unlocked with Device Unlock application that come on most tmobile devices. Application automatically deletes, once unlocked."
Would the act of unlocking mess anything up with the software updates? Would they still come from T-mobile? I tried using Kies and Smartswitch to see if there was an update, but Kies isn't supported anymore and Smartswitch isn't telling me there's an update available.
Thanks.

They dont always release teh update to everyone right away. its released in stages.
You can always manually download them (from updato) and install them through odin.
Did you verify from Tmobile that the phone is not under financial obligation and is in fact unlocked through a carrier and not the seller himself?
Always do that when considering buying a used phone and never expect the seller to be telling the truth.
Verizon Devices
Get a trade-in appraisal through Verizon - you will get a message that the device is not eligible for trade-in if it is still being financed through Verizon:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/device-recycle/
Sprint Devices
Use Ting's device check - it will fail if the device is still being financed through Sprint:
https://ting.com/byod
TMobile Devices
http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx
AT&T Devices
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/
Enter "No" when asked if you are an AT&T customer. Then input the IMEI and you will get the message below if the device is not paid off yet:
"This device isn’t eligible to be unlocked now because all of the installment payments have not been paid."

I keep getting "hotlinking is not cool" and won't let me download.

I still haven't gotten the update either. At the store they suggested that theming or other apps could stop the updates, which seemed like bs, but I had already uninstalled all substratum layers in preparation for the update anyhow. I've tried smart switch as well but nothing is showing the update. My phone is not unlocked or rooted and running BRA9. Is it really just taking them this long to roll out?

I bought a note 8 from TMobile February 22. I am in the Pacific NW, still on 7.1.1 and software update says I am up to date, not sure why but there it is.

Me either, Im in NW Indiana & chicken out when I saw I would have to downgrade to BRA8 to go to Oreo (on BRA9)

Samsung Pay not working on Tmobile S9+

I bought mine from Samsung.com and noticed that it says "Unlocked by Samsung" on the box. I don't know if that means the device isn't actually a Tmobile unit though. Anyways, Samsung Pay doesn't work for me. When I install it from Okay I Store, it says this device isn't compatible. When I install it from the Galaxy App store, it tells me a new update is available and the new features are "Brand new UX" and when I press OK, it just closes the app. Is it just because the phone isn't officially released yet or is it a software issue? Thanks.
If it says unlocked by Samsung you do not have the TMobile version.

Mine is SMG965U1ZKAX. I ordered a T-Mobile Midnight Black S9+ From Samsung.com. Everything about it seems like it's an unlocked model. I don't even get the T-Mobile splash screen when I reboot the phone. If it really is the unlocked version, I'm guessing that model hasn't been updated to support Samsung Pay yet. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that I got the unlocked version instead of the T-Mobile version.
I went back to my order receipt/emails and checked to make sure I even ordered the T-Mobile model. Turns out, it's the Unlocked model. I know for a fact I chose the T-Mobile option but I guess not. Was the Unlocked S8+ compatible with Samsung Pay?
If you do not have a T-Mobile folder with T-Mobile apps on your phone, it means is not from T-Mobile.

I'm having the EXACT SAME ISSUE, but I'm on the unlocked U.S. version direct from Samsung on AT&T. It's been driving me crazy. Made the rounds on both AT&T's and Samsung's customer service phone lines and online chats. No help.
Any solution?

Mine is SM-G965UZKAXAA.
Turns out I do ha e the unlocked model. Haven't found a solution for samsung pay yet, though.
You guys probably have to wait for actually launch date I'm pretty sure this happened with the note 7... They don't push all updates unfortunately until launch dates for some services. So I'm sure within the next 3 days it'll be updated to support the unlocked variants

What doesn't work? My app launches and it allows me to sign in and add a card. I have not tried to use it as of yet. My phone is unlocked Coral Blue and has a Verizon SIM in it. I got the phone at 1030 and turned it on. About an 1 hour ago a update came. I didn't add Samsung Pay until after the update.
I got my unlocked from Samsung S9+ delivered today (3/14). With a Verizon SIM I was able to add a card to Samsung Pay and use it successfully at Best Buy.

Here's a link to a screen shot I took of the issue. It says Not compatible. It only shows this if I download from the Play Store.
https://imgur.com/KPwoDl9
I get this when I install from Galaxy Apps. When I press the OK or Cancel button, the Samsung pay just force closes. There's no updates for Samsung Pay in the Galaxy App store or the Play Store either.

I did get a software update this morning which I installed, but Samsung Pay still gives me the same errors. I called Samsung Pay Support a few hours ago and the guy basically said it's a known issue with the S9 and S9+ and that there should be an update pushed out "Soon" that'll fix it. Other than a factory reset, I think my only option is to wait. I'd rather not reset my phone unless I absolutely have to because I hate getting things set up again, lol.
Edit: I should probably add, I can't even set up Samsung Pay. I get those error messages any time I try to launch the app.
There's an update in the Galaxy App store and it's working for me now. Another user on reddit let me know about it.

Galaxy beta program issue

I know the current FAQ for the beta program is stating either unlocked or TMobile s9+ only, so I decided to ask tech support about other phones, and he said that there is an option for phones such as mine, a locked Verizon s9+. But, he said that I would have to visit the nearest Samsung center, which isn't feasible in my location. Does anyone know of this option for locked Verizon phones he mentioned, or was he just misinformed? I would love to join the beta, dammit verizon

I can't see where the representative is correct at all. The FAQ clearly states "device that is locked to the Sprint or T-Mobile network, non-operator-locked device, or open-market version"
Your phone simply doesn't fit under that criteria.
That's what I figured, it didn't make sense to me, but I was holding out hope that maybe there was some truth to it lol.

What sim card you are using does have any impact at all. If you have the G965U1 then I would imagine you fall under the "non-operator-locked device" category.
If not or you have another model then all I can only say just wait and find out. My phone although originally a Sprint device is network unlocked and running the U1 firmware... So even I won't know if I qualify for the beta or not until the enrollment starts and I see the enrollment banner or not.

Okay, I really appreciate the answer, I guess I need to search for a way to sign up for the beta? Or does the banner just come automatically if your unit is eligible? Many thanks

When the beta is officially launched the banner will be in the Samsung+ app. You just need to open the app at that time, and if it shows up it will be front and center. Clicking/pressing on the banner (and following what directions are provided) is how you complete the beta registration.
Alternatively at that same time if you do not see the banner in the Samsung+ app it means your device is not eligible.

Phone been branded? Need confirmation with this

Guys,
I get this update;
https://imgur.com/a/nd7Ac3S
https://imgur.com/a/EO0jokj
Im just new / noobie haha at this Huawei. But can somebody confirm for me if this has an issue or a throttle about the system updates?
I dont see any kind of Branding of the carrier, also dont see an splash screen at the startup of an carrieer.
Because I dont want being restricted by the carrier about the update policy of my carrier.
I'm afraid that this is an issue that if the update comes to example to the Netherlands or UK, so that the people without this ("branded-isch") carrier thing (forexample in Netherlands) will get the update early then the people who has this Carier/branded thing...
If I put an other SIMcard like forexample Vodafone, this will not popup, Only popup with the T-mobile simcard, it makes sense because I bought it at T-mobile.
Why Im making wories is because before I went to the Tmobileshop, I bought the phone without an contract at the Mediamarkt (Techshop) and put the same SIMcard in it what I have right now, and there it doesn't any thing popup what it does right now;
I just wanna to be sure otherwise I wanna cancel my contract and gonna get an other mate 20 pro without this being branded.
Is this phone now being branded?
Sounds very similar to what I have with my network in the UK which is '3'.
My phone was purchased from them on contract and is a dual sim version.
When I first but my sim in it said there was a software update available. It turns out it's just a carrier custom update which adds a splash screen and some selected apps. From previous experience with Huawei updates it seems they do not release updates here until all the carriers here approve the update which can obviously cause delays. As such I have chosen to not install the update in the hope I will soon get offers the latest 146 update. I don't know if this will actually work or not but here's hoping.
The phone keeps downloading the update but I just go into the software updater app and delete the data.

Yeah this is annoying me also... I have tweeted three & got the usual 'We customise it to give the best experience', but when I then asked about being removed from this update channel as the one they're pushing is an older version than what's already installed & I'd rather keep up to date with the monthly security updates, they've not replied...
For now, I've turned off Auto Downloading of updates now so that's one part of the problem solved, however, Software Update app still keeps posting notifications about the update, even though I've removed all permissions for it to do this.

T-Mobile Galaxy Tab S6

Does anyone here know if the T-Mobile variant has a locked bootloader? And if so, is there any way to unlock it?
I'm wondering the same thing...I'll be going to look at it later today. Also I noticed the wifi model has the phone dialer installed so I'm wondering if the LTE T-Mobile model has phone function with the right sim installed?
I went to the T-Mobile store to look at the tab...They had no idea if the bootloader is locked or not. I'm sure it probably is but haven't seen anything about whether it can be unlocked yet. They also told me that the phone and SMS/MMS might work for a few days until the system detects it is a tablet, then those functions will be disabled. Make no sense to me why we can't have those functions on a tablet here in the US...And why even put the software on the tab if it can't be used? I told them to keep it and I'll get the WiFi tablet and just use the hotspot on my phone when I'm out and about. At least I'll get quicker updates (Maybe because Samsung) and I won't have the tons of their bloatware on the thing.

If you can go into store and view the tablet go into settings and enable developer options by tapping on the build. Then go into developer options and see if there is a switch to unlock the boot loader. I just bought the wifi model from Best Buy and the boot loader can be unlocked. I have already installed TWRP and Magisk. I think maybe the LTE version may require a 7 day wait not sure.

from almost a year back-wondering was your wifi device branded like Tmobile or Verizon? sad to see no continuity in the thread-was hoping for someone to check out the lte device in Tmobile to see if it could be unlocked or if the option was there-not many resources on internet. Does Tmobile even carry this thing anymore? thanks

Unfortunately, I think I'm being held back by the whole 7-day oem-unlock hide thing. And all the ways around it have apparently been patched by samsung. So this time next week, I'll know for sure. As of right now, I believe it can be unlocked, but I don't know for sure.

thank you so much-well I will be receiving my device tomorrow. So let the race begin-ha ha kidding will see and compare. I did not know Samsung has this 7 day wait period (like Xiaomi has a 2 week period). Oh well, time will tell Thanks for keeping me posted and do let me know what you find. I did see a post somewhere on xda for the tab s6 where the poster said he could unlock the carrier device (think it was Tmobile) but he wanted to find out if he could root it. I will find the post (again it was an old one and of course, my response (recently) has not got any response. In fact, like many, he did not follow up with any posts thereafter (several months back).

Hello Arudis I got a used Tmobile variant. But I do not see any OEM unlock option in developer settings (a prerequisite before anything can be done for unlocking b/l). Which software version is yours having? (maybe it is different because you bought directly from Samsung but does not make sense if it is branded Tmobile). Could be that you have an older version of Android-appreciate if you could let me know which software version, CSC etc yours has. I might end up returning mine if there is no progress. Thanks.!
EDIT: Returned it. Great price and condition. Just too bad-did not want to take chances with it. Good luck-seems that you should be able to unlock it per that other post I sent.

Well. I'm struggling w/ it. CSC was TMB btw. This whole ordeal has been a mess of mistakes on my part. If i can't get this unlocked in the next day or 2 then i'll be returning it myself. I'd rather have a weaker tablet w/ root and a custom rom than a great tablet that i have to run stock.
Current software version is T867USQU3BTJ1 / T867UOYN3BTJ1 / T867USQU3BTJ1.
First thing I needed to know was whether or not I could unlock the tablet for other networks and in order to do that, I inserted a sim and logged into the tablet w/ my google account. I think this is where I made my first mistake as I have a sinking suspicion that inserting the sim somehow got rid of my oem unlock toggle. I know I had seen it before I started trying 2 unlock the sim because its always the first thing I do when I get a new device. But between the sim and the unlock process I ended up rebooting too many times and it auto-updated itself to the latest firmware. Since the latest firmware, I haven't seen that toggle at all. When I try to flash twrp w/ Odin, it fails.
@ this point I've decided that I will never buy another samsung device ever. I've had all manner of fun rooting every other device i've ever owned that wasn't a samsung device, however every samsung device has always been a supreme pain in the butt because I can't just do what i want w/ adb and fastboot.

I agree but this has more to do with (if not entirely) to U.S carriers playing games with dual devices for marketing-only here does this go on, where the carriers since time immemorial have blocked calls and texts on tablets (7 and above inches) giving some bs reasons (there was a time they had this tablet "plan" and phone "plans"-those have at least merged at least for Tmobile-otherwise their servers would detect a tablet and switch you automatically to a tablet plan for your 'convenience' and maybe even 'safety' lol)....so as long as they do this, Samsung (even Apple which does the same thing worldwide anyway) have tablets that do not have phone-like functions (Samsung has this call and text pairing with other Samsung phones a.k.a buy two of our devices please AND have two plans (so both Samsung and carriers win)...) on their U.S devices (Samsung at least to their credit have this :"unlocked" cellular variants in rest of the world, Apple does not even have that-yes, I know there is Google talk and all kinds of wifi-based workarounds but that is a different topic.
EDIT-if you compare the older devices like say tab S and tab s2 (the carrier variants and the international variants you will find out that even the speaker arrangements are different. I delved deep into this and found that even the boards were different-the lengths they went to do this to keep the versions distinct is amazing!) folks here on xda etc kept thinking for a while that they could simply flash the international ROMs (never mind the b/l block or hurdles) but the partitions were not even the same let alone the modems, and the actual hardware itself!
So blame the carriers-I do. So I never get these carrier devices (first time I tried my hand at it-no more)
Having to perform a soft boot tonight I noticed an "unlock bootloader command" in the softboot menu along with "cache clear" along with the always present "factory reset". Which I have to perform anyway because network mode locked to 3G only and no option to change it back so it has major conectivity issues. I'm thinking I may try the unlock bootloader command.
P.S. Mine is the tmo version

Out of curiosity which model number is your tmobile tab s6 lte? I have the verizon sm-t867v model which i re-flashed to the tmobile sm-t867u model using modified Odin 3.14. Unfortunately the bootloader remained locked down with no way to unlock it. Also what is this softboot menu your speaking of? I know samsung like the back of my hand and I've never heard of a softboot menu. Curious if this is something new im not aware of since I've been stuck with verizon brands the last 3 samsung devices I've owned...
Yes and Yes!
Can someone clarify something on the Tmobile Variant of the Tab S6?
This T867U definitely comes with the HARDWARE to text because i got it to work but it stopped.
So could this just be a matter of getting it 'Carrier Unlocked" so TMO cant decide what we do with our tab s6 since its payed for???
Make calls and send messages from your Galaxy tablet
With Call & text on other devices, you can receive calls and send messages on your Galaxy tablet that is logged in to the same Samsung account as your phone.

I have the same problem, I bought the device from eBay and now in Egypt, the device is locked to the T-Mobile network, and I don't know a way to unlock it. I cannot contact the seller to ask him about the T-Mobile subscription details, and after communicating with T-Mobile, they did not reply

Question Best Way to Update on MNVOs?

I've got an unlocked S23 Ultra, S918U1, currently running on Google Fi. Will probably be switching to US Mobile's Verizon plan soon tho. I'm wondering what my best options are for keeping the device updated. It's still on May but maybe too early to worry about the June update? But I can get a little impatient sometimes and I'm not sure how updates tend to go with MNVOs.
So I guess I'm wondering about: Smart Switch, changing CSC, and Odin. Any tips for keeping this device promptly updated?
Use Odin. Changing CSC shouldn't matter too much although it might cause problems if you don't wipe data. It's been a while since I've dealt with Samsung.
As far as getting ahold of the firmware in the first place I believe Frija is your best option, although I don't know whether Samsung makes their updates publicly available at the same time they push OTAs.

Thank you for the response. I will check out Frija, also the Sam Mobile app seems to list firmwares, but no June release for U1 yet. I guess I might end up just flashing firmwares with Odin. Thanks again!

Just make sure that you pay attention to which CSC file you use. The HOME_CSC.tar is for an update preserving user data. The CSC.tar will wipe data.

If you bought it as an unlocked phone...and it isn't network (carrier) branded...you'll get the updates more quickly anyway.
The U1 version usually gets the updates about two weeks after Korea does...and only one week after we in Europe do.
FYI....if you device is unbranded...it doesn't matter what carrier your SIM is. The updates are independent of the carrier.

Oh, thanks for the information, I do have an unbranded US U1 model, so maybe I'll be able to just wait for the updates to come OTA. That would be the easiest of course. And thanks for the info about the timeline, I see that the June updates for many models seem to be up on Sam Mobile as of today, so hopefully another week or two for me

Yep, and the U/U1 firmware is interchangeable, but if you don't want carrier bloat, go with U1

As I understand..is was rolled out a few days ago...and it is slowly released across the range. For example...it took a few days for me to get it here in Europe after it was officially released. My guess is...a few more days and you'll be golden.

Yep, it's all U1 for me! I believe it even still comes with native caller ID

He is already on U1...so is already bloat free. He can't root it...so he may as well just wait for the update. My guess is....3 to 4 more days.
