My Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon maximum storage space was reduced to 9GB - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

My phone has a 32GB storage space, but after I have flashed the RR Oreo ROM, the maximum space shrank to 9GB. Do I need to re partition the space? There is a thread which is the same situation as me but it's for nexus 6 phones....
I cannot flash stock MIUI 9 rom due to fail unmount when installing using TWRP...
Please suggest what I can do...

Sounds like you messed up your partitions. The same commands you'll find in the Nexus threads will work for all devices, AFAIK. Do an advanced wipe and resize the file system in TWRP. If that doesn't work, try fastboot format userdata in fastboot. Then try flashing the stock MIUI recovery (here it is for mido devices only!: http://en.miui.com/thread-528989-1-1.html) for your device and stock ROM for your device.
You might have to use Mi Flash. Qualcomm devices only.

Based on your steps, I have formatted however I had used ext4 and reverted to Stock MIUI rom. However just checking, I had 23.77 GB of storage space. Is this normal? Or I have to restore by stock recovery mode?
It shows in storage settings:
NON-SYSTEM STORAGE
Available 23.77GB Total: 25.23GB
Thanks for your help!

Yes. The system will always take up some space, and so will storage in general. For example, a 32 gig USB stick might have 29 gigs of available space. Smartphones add system files on top of that. So that 29 gigs becomes 25 gigs once the OS is installed.
And yes, you should only have 24-25 gigs available at most: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/help/usable-storage-size-32gb-model-t3634746
You could try flashing a custom ROM to see if you can get more space back. MIUI is really big.

Custom ROM Cyanogen 12.1 partition problem

Hi guys,
I don't know how to explain this. I used custom ROM Miui for my rooted Lenovo before. And it's used a whole single partition on a physical internal phone as it does. But when I'm flashing Cyanogen 12.1, now it use "emulated method" for its internal storage. Because of that, I've lost about 3gb of space, Cyanogen surely made its own partition, and not mounting my real/physical partition. Now, the Cyanogen only read 5gb of internal storage, for system and data.
If I change back, Miui can read it all, the whole single internal phone storage, which is 8gb.
How can I fix this? Do I really need to sacrifice 3gb of space to use Cyanogen?
Thanks for your help!

Less internal storage issue

I have a Kenzo, 16GB + 2GB RAM variant.
While using ES File Explorer, it showed that I have a total of 10.26 GB internal memory, so where did the remaining 5-6 GB went ?
Maybe this is a noob question but I am worried about this

It's occupied by MIUI 8 operating system.. So the user available space is only 10.26gb.

I have installed CM14.1 + Radon 3.0.1 with clean flash
Will this issue still persist ?
You won't see a full 16GB for your use, if that's what you're thinking. Some has to be for the OS. I think with CM14, you end up with a maybe 11-12GB free, but your OS and other apps have to take up some space.
Simple solution, buy a SD card and use it as a internal storage, but be aware that the (un)official CM 14.1 by TheStrix has currently a bug with this feature

Is Low Internal Storage an issue?

Do you guys think that the Low Internal Storage, Partition Size and Storage is a problem for Moto E? I feel it is, when flashing ROMs and when it starts to get laggy due to the new ROMs.
What about you guys?

Yes Condor have 4gb internal storage, but 2gb usable, after flashing custom ROM we have 1.8 to 1.6gb free space (depending upon your ROM size, i.e stock rom is 500mb, gives 1.7gb free internal storage, but custom ROM is 200mb gives 1.8gb free internal storage)
Then installing WhatsApp, telegram, hike, + WhatsApp images, videos, etc
Finally we get storage full notification in status bar:silly:
Using SD as internal gives lags and poor battery backup

Custom ROMs with Gapps, the new ones takes 500mb+ of data. Installing 5 to 6 apps easily takes up storage.
How would you go about maximizing your space for apps? Any recommendations for a ROM, or how to go about shrinking one? I would love to be on 7.x, but if I could get a nice tiny optimized ROM I'd have to go with that.
A lot of my issues with my phone stem from lack of space.
The custom roms are not smooth at all. Going back to stock is quite a long procedure. I'm just waiting for someone to release a completely naked Aosp rom like most devices have.

Help Storage space

I almost bricked my le max 2 x829. But by flashing with fastboot i mannaged to instal the base rom. 9Ax820) one

I also already rooted the phone and got trwp on it and flashed pure nexus back again.
Sorry already fixed all probs. only get failed to.... cust in TRWP

Did not work for me

"system" using 25GB of storage

In Settings > Storage, "system" is using 25GB of storage. Does that seem excessive?
Running stock EU ROM.
I am not sure how it can be 25Gs. Mine shows 12 being used by system.
Mine is 15GB, but I always thought that it's mainly size of /system and /vendor partitions and that should be the same for everyone. Maybe it's time to dig into the Android source code to see what is being counted into the system category..
For me using 128GB global stock rom, with Dec patch, uses 11GB of system only. I don't sure if it includes both system and vendor partitions, or just system partition.
A slight difference in system storage size between Global and EU rom is normal, but in this case, it is quite abnormal. I don't know what the cost either.
Do you do any kind of modifications to your device before? Like unlocking bootloader, rooting, etc.
PKQ1.190416.001.v10.3.13.0.PFQEUXM - 64GB version, Dec patch: 11GB system
The answer is probably really in the source code:
https://android.googlesource.com/pl.../storage/StorageItemPreferenceController.java
"Everything else that hasn't already been attributed is tracked as belonging to system."
@barth2 - you'll need to figure out which files don't fall into any of the available categories..

I am rooted and have a few magisk modules. They are all small, a few megs at most.
Solid explorer shows my root is 2.9gb total and internal memory is 48.33gb total. I'll be curious to hear that other people get.
Bug

Any bug this build version.
Mine is taking 20GB
Follow up: I inserted an SD card and moved some of my files on to it and now system is down to 10GB. So it was just miscounting my files as part of 'system'.
