HARD GAMER please I need your help. - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

I've been stucking here on Nougat and fails to move on to Oreo. I don't know I just think that Nougat is better in term of performance and stability for gaming. But now, you know, all the threads and developers giving all their loves for Oreo. So maybe this is my time to move.
So, please all hard gamers. In your experience. I need your setup badly for which Oreo rom should I flash. The most minimal and only essential customizations but very good performance n gaming, and please tell me which kernel you've been using for gaming. I really need it badly. Gaming is life. Please.
FYI I play Vainglory, FreeFire or ROS. Thank you so much.

Since there are no Oreo blobs for the Redmi Note 4 from Xiaomi (the Redmi Note 4 has yet to get the MIUI Oreo update and Xiaomi won't release sources for it until it does), kernels are pretty useless, IMO. Just stick with Nougat. It has sources so kernels for it are a whole lot more useful.

Ah, didn't know that. If you tell so I think Im gonna stick with Nougat. Do you know when estimated time Xiaomi to release sources for Oreo?

Probably never. Xiaomi never updates its old phones to new Android versions (only makes aesthetic changes to MIUI in updates), and this phone is a year old now. So it's old in Xiaomi's eyes. Xiaomi is a hardware company. Makes its money off hardware. So it has to keep pumping out new phones to ensure sales. If everyone holds onto old phones, like us Note 4 owners, Xiaomi doesn't get paid.
So don't expect an Oreo update or official sources from Xiaomi. You'll probably have to move onto the Note 5 Pro if you want Oreo and good gaming performance.

Will Mi Pad ever update???

I am confused in buying this tablet ...I fear that kitkat will soon get outdated and i will not be able to use some apps... I have read many forums but nobody discussed of the update for pad to lollipop...Will it ever get updated ...and if not will I be able to use apps even after incompatibility with kitkat(if there is any way to get out of the problem)???
there's no way to get any decent rom out of xiaomi as they don't release the source code.
there's a few ported 5.0 roms put there but many things are not working yet and development is very slow (it's been months and there's no updates)
MIUI 7 is just released, but still in kk.
i don't think xiaomi will move to lollipop anytime soon.
save yourself the trouble, go get other tablets.
sad to hear that, i'm planning to buy 1, i want this this tab just because of it's powerful specs, high battery and size.
hope we can have at least lollipop update from Mi
After experiencing the lack of real updates on the Mi Pad, I've given up the purchase of many Mi devices.
For example, the Redmi Note 2 is a great device at a killer price (about $130 here) with near-flagship specs. But it is stuck on 5.0, so of course I'm not getting it because I know it'll be stuck down for a long time simply because MIUI never releases code, and never releases kernel even though they're supposed to.
If the kernel was released by Xiaomi you'd have killer roms on these devices in a single week.

There won't be one. Xiaomi only has 4 developers working on Mi Pad, part time. And the support has been terrible. As a MiPad owner, I'm horribly disappointed. Their support for their other phones are just as awful.
according to miui forum they need beta tester to apply global beta team for miui7 MM base for xiaomi device http://en.miui.com/thread-197475-1-1.html
lets pray sodamn hard mipad will get it too
Other then 4.4.4 updates as in just the apps here and there Mi Pad will NEVER be getting Android 5 nor Android 6. They the MODS that have no idea either since launch been saying "wait and see". If you search you find MIUI said about marshmellow just what would be getting updated and MI PAD is NOT there.
Yes, MIUI 8 for Mi Pad is available now, I think so
Miui 8 is available on the Chinese ROM only.
A general point is that in the fast moving world of mobile telephone sales, to stay profitable, you must come up with new and better models regularly. This means a limited software shelf life for old phones, where 'old' means over 2 years. Of course there won't be support for older models, most owners have bought other handsets by then, anyway. Of course xiaomi should release the source code though.
Well, I cannot say much about MI Pad support as I do not have that one, but pretty much ANY MI devices got MIUI 8 now. Yes, some are running on top of old Android, but it does not matter much for most users, and please tell me which company supports such old devices as Redmi 1s? What is offered with Huawei T1-A21L tablet still commonly offered across Europe by 3? Correct 4.4 with no plans to give any updates. So let us be more objective. Well, I agree, to get sources would be nice. BTW, di we get them for Nvidia own device?
Its time to let the source kod loose...why are they Holding this for them selfs ? If they are smart release the source kod and maybe just maybe we forget about that they didnt support us.... 1 thing is for sure, i will never ever buy a Xiaomi product again! And i hope you guys are with Me on this One, this Company is a joke !
Good news, the Kernel just released. Finally! https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource/tree/mocha-kk-oss/kernel

MIUI 9.5 with Android 7.0 is comming via OTA

Hey I just heard from digit.in that xiaomi is rolling MIUI 9.5 based on Android 7.0 to 30 of it's devices including our beloved redmi 3s series. If nothing went wrong, it would be released within few days.I think we can expect some more roms for our devices now. Cheers:laugh:
Yeah it really must be truth. Stable 7.0 without testing in dev builds.
Here it is. As you see still 6.0 and yeah, still almost year old security patch.

Never never Xiaomi again!!
Guys they sell great value for money products.. u can always change the software but what matters is the hardware.
Take the example of leco le max 2 it has snapdragon 820 at a price range of 10500 at banggoods, no one can match.. To its performance per dollar ?..
But still 6.1
?
I am cool with my phone and thank xiaomi because of it selling so many phones we have got such a great community on xda..
I have my pixel but still use my redmi 3s as it being my first phone.

Someone actually know when would android nougat be available on this device?
its a shame, that they not even update the security patch level: still from 04/2017!!!
Otherwise:
i love MIUI - i don't need Nougat/Oreo...
everything work perfekt for me. But Performance and Akku is better in LOS and co...
yup I really hate xiaomi for not providing at least one android upgrade and for this ancient security patch. the moderators on miui forum are very rude one word against xiaomi and baaaam instant ban. They are bootlickers of xiaomi. I also hate ugly round green coloured notification toggles. and with every stable update new bloatwares and no option to remove them and also plenty full of ads
Never

Xiaomi is fooling us by upadting MIUI version. They are not updating Android version.
To everyone complaining about miui. It's true that it's a bad OS but not ****ty. As a matter of fact, MIUI is far more stable than any of the custom ROMs available. Xiaomi instead of bumping the android version from marshmallow, keeps increasing the stability with marshmallow which isn't bad. And those suffering from bloatware, use modded miui like Xiaomi.eu or miuipro.
Official MIUI with Android 7.0 or higher will NEVER come to the 3S. Just flash official LineagOS 14.1, is as stable as the stock ROM, you'll have decent notifications and no bloatware.
The MIUI update 9.5.1 was actually pulled back and made nightly due to critical bugs.
http://en.miui.com/thread-2160466-1-1.html
The update was on Android 6.0.1 (obviously) and with April Security patch ( 2017 not 2018 )
So in short use Custom ROMs and be happy with the minimal bugs and in return get solid performance and stability.
My recommendations : crDroid 3.8.5 OFFICIAL

Xiaomi Update Reputation

They have weekly ROM updates for those who want to opt-in to the developer builds.
Stable builds are at their own discretion.
They're not amazing, but better than many.
Security updates is another story. They're a bit slow with them, though I think that varies per device (Redmi is budget so gets low priority).
Poco is a new brand trying to go global though, so hopefully it's better than other devices (not sure how security updates are on the flagship Mi series)
After one or two months most of the people will shift to some or the other custom rom. So there won't be any problem with the security updates and normal OS upgrades. My Mi3 was released with KitKat now it's running Android Pie

I assume he's asking about *Xiaomi* updates, the official ROM. Of course you can just install custom ROM's to get latest updates unofficially - but that makes the question moot.

Beta ROM updates are very fast both security n OS updates.
Stable updates within the same OS version are faster too. But OS upgrade need a bit waiting time as OS integrating to MIUI takes time.
Poco I expect faster updates due to treble support.
FYI:
Mix 2S of xiaomi already has Android 9 beta update.
very bad on stock roms stuck to old OS builds for mid range phones but on flagships very fast like blyat cyka rush b
I have used Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 3/4/5, Redmi 3S/prime and only Redmi 2 and Redmi Note 3 as my daily driver.
Those things taught the following:
Don't except updates from Xiaomi, not even security patches, although they have started providing patches on Note series but they are always late, so patches may arrive but not when you expect them.
You may not get the latest features even if you have the latest android version on your MIUI, why? because Xiaomi wants to provide same features to all the phones so that phones running on Kitkat will have the same feature as phone running on Oreo, this makes their software development easy, that means that the feature that you are using doesn't have native support and may be buggy and battery hogging.
There are two channels in MIUI - Beta Channel and StableChannel. Stable channel update is provided every 4-5 months or whenever they feel like or to fix a very important bug. Beta channel was previously bimonthly but I have heard that now, it's changed. Due to this, they don't fix bugs properly and instead introduce more bugs in the system
Their update size are generally 500MB-1.5GB but the fixes are things like: Calender icon changed, Button of some subforum in MIUI forum app changed, New Ringtones and every useless things, then in the end *Bug Fixes* but they don't mention which one. Out of every 10 beta updates only 1 or 2 updates are useful while others are just formality.
Now, note this, other companies give update to keep your phone running for longer amount of time. Xiaomi thinks different, they will wreck your device with every update they provide.
When I had Redmi Note 3, Beta channel was more better and more stable than the Stable channel, I am not lying go check the forums.
There is no major change in MIUI 7-9 the first major change I saw was MIUI6 - MIUI 7 after that all changes were just useless and they everytime just change notification shade style.
MIUI 10 - Notification shade now looks like a copy of iPhone and it's really very cheap act by Xiaomi, although their App switcher is somewhat cool.
Custom ROM:
Xiaomi phones works best with stock android and indeed has the best development support. But there are few catches.
Not all features work in custom ROM, you will have to leave one or two things if you want to use custom ROM.
The famous and best developers will not port VOLTE if their cell providers don't provide it
Camera (on Xiaomi phones) doesn't works well on custom ROMS.
Xiaomi does provide kernel but they don't provide a lot of proprietary codes and binaries that ensures smooth functioning of phones.
Don't buy the phone if you want to get updates unless it's Chinese, they do care about Chinese people unlike their global counterpart, or those people who develop global roms are arseheads.
All the above points can be confirmed on MIUI forums and XDA, if anyone says that even one of the point(s) is wrong, he is probably new in Xiaomi's world.
Redmi is the cheap line and they get late updates and bugs are not fixed properly. Mi is the expensive line of Xiaomi so they get proper update in first few months and after that they are also neglected. Since Poco is also a cheap but is a flagship, they will get good number of updates and fixes for few months then they will announce another phone and Poco will be neglected, and people who are saying that Poco has a different team may be wrong, I don't think Xioami will divide the team because internally it uses the same MIUI as others only launcher is different. For world Poco is a brand, for Xiaomi it's yet another phone.
Depends. My Mi3 got updated from kitkat to Marshmallow while my mi tab 1 was still stuck at kitkat with such a laggy interface until I flashed nougat roms with shiels blobs which made the tab as smooth as my oneplus 3. So MIUI sucks and they don't update android versions when they update their miui version. So buy a phone which has strong custom rom support. (Xiaomi models that are sold in India have strong dev support from what I have seen)
Thanks everyone for the info. That gives me a good idea.

As for tablet, well it's a tablet. Android tablets were always poor selling and are now completely dead anyway (Chrome OS tablets are the future), can't compare phones to tablets.

What makes a custom rom development possible?

Tittle says it all. Why pocophone as soon as september 2018 already had custom roms avaiable here on XDA and other phones such as Mi 9, S10, V20 almost 3 months since launch doesn't have any?
What makes it possible to develop custom OS and ported OS?
I really wanted to purchase a Mi 9 but MIUI is absolutely unbearable. Will miss so much OOS for Poco F1
Edit: Is it a long way to learn how to port ROMs, GSI to the point i can develop my own OOS for my desired phone?
It's about how popular the device gets. Pocophone is indeed very popular due do having flagship SOC for a very low price compared to Flagship phones. Also, Xiaomi made Source Code available literally after the phone launched. Good price, source code, popularity, attracts the developers.
Also, why do you miss OOS? It's still alive and being updated. Beta version for example. You just need to join their VIP section for some cheap monthly price and you're gonna get updates regularly according to the OOS dev for Poco.

Android 11 Beta 1 Port for K20 Pro/Mi 9T Pro

A request to the devs to port the android 11 beta 1 build of Mi 10 for K20 Pro/Mi 9T Pro
We also wanna experience the latest android on our devices
No we don't, a port would take so much work to get headphone jack, pop up camera and everything else to work even slightly ok, it would not be anywhere close to being a daily driver but a rom to try for a hour. In good time Xiaomi will release miui 12 android 11 beta for our device just be patient.
I don't think Xiaomi's gonna provide Android 11 for K20 Pro. They've already discontinued it's production and investing more work in it won't bring them profit. Also they've got a lot of flagships. So, I don't think they'll care about this phone. They've already given one Android update, they'll settle for it.

They might not provide the beta but they certainly will a stable version once it's ready. Don't forget that the phone launched with Android 9, was a part of Android 10 beta testing and should receive one more Android update which would be 11. Xiaomi has always updated higher-end models with 2 Android versions just like every other OEM (except Google). It would be a shame if they left one of their most popular phones behind, wouldn't it?

Can be done from the Poco F2 Pro Android 11 Beta 1 easily, right?
porting isn't straight forward as you might think, not only that more than likely a new kernel would need to be compiled.
It probably won't be long till the k20 gets a proper beta release, imagine someone working on trying to port another devices firmware and doing a kernel for it and then a proper firmware gets released, it would be a waste of a devs time.
Most devs on here are concentrating on non miui roms, apart from xiaomi.eu firmwares no other miui roms are being kept upto date.

As far as I can tell they haven't released the beta for poco f2 pro yet, the other 2 phones don't have a pop up camera so porting would not be straight forward.
It's an early dev build which will be full of bugs, below are the features that android 11 will bring:
https://www.androidauthority.com/android-11-features-1085228/
A lot of these have already been done or very similar in custom aosp roms already available, if not more.
I wouldn't hold your breathe on this, it's probably not going to happen, and people will just wait for a proper k20 pro release

What a joke! By your logic, no phone should get 2 android updates because no company produce a particular phone model for 2 years. And, software updates profit them because it allows their royal customers happy and stick to their brand. Otherwise, they will just buy another brand with better software update. Lastly, there isn't many redmi flagships, k20 pro, k30 pro/zoom. That's it.
Even midrange Mi A2 lite got 2 android updates.
Xiaomi has pretty good record of giving updates and I am 100% sure that K20 pro will get android 11.

It's not my logic, it's Xiaomi's, so far as my observation.
Besides, the ones you're calling "Royal" customer, K20 pro is a budget flagship. The customers for this are anything but "Royal".
Mi A2 lite got the update probably because of its long lifespan.
Again, I don't have any problem if Xiaomi provides another Android update. I'm just skeptical they'll do so.
