If you can make it stable for daily use then go for it. I'm waiting for a stable MIUI9 7.1.2 port for mido because I want gcam face retouch to be working in MIUI  as I prefer MIUI over custom ROMs...
And if you decides to go for porting it then please use global ROM as port ROM.

Well i remember you a bit
Mi A1 port might be interesting but im not looking forward to port it.
Building a ROM is impossible for me due to lack of a proper computer.
Now with my order delayed. Ill see what can i do for that device

Port mi5x 7.1.2 that will be damn awesome

I downloaded Mi5X firmware from Xiaomi.eu because official ones are very terrible...
My biggest fear now is if the ROM being 64-bit and RIL... In Samsung devices we can use any same chipset RIL driver with no issue but with Xiaomi ones IDK. Also i think there are 64-bit kernels for mido but still havent extracted the firmware yet.

If i succeded reaching near-stability on Touchwiz 6.0.1 on my old S3 Neo(Only camera didnt work and that was from my bad kernel) then what can possibly go wrong with MIUI 7.1.2 on mido :b

First of all I do not have knowledge about ROM porting.
If you're facing any problem in porting then may be this should help- https://forum.turkdevs.com/konu/port-7-1-2-miui-9-beta-v8-3-1-for-xiaomi-redmi-note-4-4x.14848/
'MacTavish' has already ported 'MIUI9 7.1.2' to mido using 'Redmi 5 plus's MultiPro' as a port ROM. Only 2 known bugs -
1.Brightness can be controlled in a small area
2.Fingerprint
I tried this ROM and it was working fine but I uninstalled it after some times because I prefer GlobalROM. The only reason I don't use this ROM because it's based on China and Chinese build's have some features missing that I like most like - Hotspot Auto turn Off, new notification shade, etc...

It is but OEMs build 32bit operating systems for some reason. Example, Redmi 2 is a 64bit device but runs 32bit MIUI

Yes i use Xiaomi.eu build which unlocks all MIUI9 capabilities and many more. It also supports my language which is incredibly important for me
I wouldnt done it if there were only chinese builds. If you include all the bloatware and spyware they contain... :b

Finally my sexy mido device arrived in my hands. Ill play with the device until i install TWRP. So heres the final result:
Rom:Mi5X Xiaomi.eu update ("Stable" 9.5)
API:25(7.1.2)
Kernel:Stormguard 4.2(Requires manual install as i wasnt able to put the image without getting my boot.img corrupted :b
Are these look nice? I had to follow a very different path by removing all tiffany blobs because they were uncategorized and took 300MB+ in ROM!. Mido blobs were added from los14.1 tree(los15+ are more updated but have lots of differences). Ill try to write a pretty basic shell program so i can port any Mi5X NN update immidietly because its a pain in the butt updating it.
No, treble doesnt work in this ROM. I come from lollipop-era devices :b

I got MI5X Xiaomi.eu ROM to boot, stuck at bootanimation due some bad changes i did blindly.
Switched to Mi Max 2 Global and renewed OP

I waa able to port MIUI Oreo from leaked vince nightly's. It killed my data partition because i had forceencrypt enabled in fstab. I have to understand a few stuff about how Oreo works before i do a proper port.

Thats sounds crazy and not quite right.
I think k they won't be giving lollilop to our devices
I once saw a moderator on miui.com being asked why there is still no lollipop for cancro, and he answered that they are afraid of bricking devices if they extend the partitions (because miui lollipop on cancro needs extended partition)

Ha! It'd be really interesting to know just how many cancro users switch between ROMs on system1 and system2 with any frequency.
My guess is that if you are interested in using different ROMs you definitely have enough curiosity to want to use Lollipop - in which case virtually everyone will need to scrap the system2 partition.
So due to a really bad design decision at the beginning, and to "support" their users... they need to keep the 2 system partitions, hence no Lollipop.
Just as well xda exists...
It seems the best option is to move from miui to another ROM, it's a shame, I really like miui
I am waiting for the Global Launch I am on global dev beta team and man it sucks ! No root like the china dev ROM no transparent status bar !

Marshmallow? :'(

Even without any ROM with Marshmallow?
Its hard because we need a device with same soc, with already released m rom, and with source code released, and also a developer who want to port that to our rn2. Buuut, i guess we will get it in june, when miui 8 get released for our device c:, its my hope

SkiFire13, have you actually seen this officially confirmed by Xiaomi, or is it just a guess? This would not be surprising, but there seems to be no clear answer at this point. Some say that yes, it will be based on MM, but others say it will still be Lollipop-based. It would be great to know if your statement above is just a guess, something you read somewhere else, an official statement from Xioami, or hard data like leaked information from pre-alpha builds.

Xiaomi usually update only the MIUI, not the Android base. This is based on my experience with MIUI. Previously I had a Mi2s with MIUI 5, and I saw 2 updated of MIUI.
Maybe xiaomi will updated our phone to Android N, sometimes they skip an Android version (Mi2s from J to L, Mi3, Mi4 Mi Note from K to M) but I'm not sure.

Why not a rom-based OmniROM?

He'd find a developer who could build a rom based OmniROM? Is there a reason why is not such a rom? I'm just a user. I do not understand how to build rom. Thank you for your explanation. I would also like if there was a developer who would rom.
Excuse my bad English.
So many ROM we had actually, so why don't u choose developed ROM instead of asking for a new ROM.

No the bug of camera and led flash dont come from the ROM itself instead of the missing proper libs due to xiaomi half baked source. I am pretty sure if xiaomi released the new kernel or source the bug of camera n flash will be gone.
Alternatively u may use MM based custom ROM like RR MM, AOKP MM or even LinageOS MM as they will be as solid as miui MM, in a simple words the aforementioned bugs isn't present on all of those released.
Be smart and keep thinking guys.

Rom based on Android 6 already stopped development of last year. I am using a Nexus rom. Security is outdated. No. I want to again use miui.

Officially Supported Custom ROMS for RedMi Note 4

Hey all,
I'm looking for a good Custom ROM for my Redmi Note 4 and have come across a few good ones but still I'm not sure if they're Officially supported and are Stable.
I've come across the following:
> Resurrection Remix
> Lineage OS
> Paranoid Android
So my question would be that are any of these ROMS reliable and worth flashing over the original MiUi8. Are there any other ROMS worth checking out? I would like a stable and officially supported ROM with regular updates and a stock android feel. I've been using Cyanogen Mod on my previous phones and then once that ended it's support I switched over to Lineage OS. Now the Redmi Note 4 is not really a supported device for Lineage and people have uploaded a few Unofficial Lineage OS ROMS so if any of you have flashed any particular ROM on your Redmi Note 4 I'll be happy to hear about and the experience it offered you. Feel free to post any information you have regarding this topic :good:
~RabbitWingz
May I suggest AospExtended? It's official and well maintained with regular updates. It has a stock feel and gives you some extras with it's extensions.

Bro I would like to tell you that the lack of official ROMS for our Redmi Note 4 is because Xiaomi has not yet released the kernel sources.
And if you're thinking of switching over from MIUI then yup it's totally worth it and LOS, and AEX are one of the best ROMS you can get right now, these two will get you pretty much everything you want for your device. Hit thanks if helped.

But there's one thing I personally don't like about AEX , I'm a Google fan boy so I always flash opengapps stock but well AEX doesn't really let's me uninstall dead Google apps (Google now ?) and such so yeah that's one and pretty much the only thing about it but again it's a really cool experience using AEX.

So well just go for LOS that's what I'm using and a cherry on top is that it's having all the OMS commits so substratum is fully functional but remember it's not as frequently updates as AEX so if updates are your thing than again AEX is better.
If showing off the shear performance of this beast is your thing (and simplicity too) then go for LOS cause I found the highest performance in benchmark from LOS and yeah Darkness Redefined is also good cause I've used it and found it pretty polished.

Hey man,
Thanks for all the information! Would Xiaomi release the kernel sources later in the future or are there no sure plans of that happening? MiUi is pretty heavy and all the bloatware and crappy Ram Management is a disappointment. For those reasons I'm really eager to switch over to a custom ROM and if Lineage OS somehow supports it officially later in the future, It'll definitely be my first choice. Also if you could provide me with a little more Info on the AEX ROM and it's features then that'll be great. Or just simply link it :good:

Bro for AEX just visit the forums and yes the kernel sources will be released in the future but for now we just can wait. Thanks once again The only thing that bothers me from flashing LOS is that only an Unofficial Build is available here on XDA so I'm not really sure how trustworthy it is. But you've used it and have you come across any bugs or performance issues? Bro if it's unofficial then it doesn't mean that it's not trustworthy but simply that right now it won't get OTA updates and it won't get updated with all the other devices but when the developer will want to update it and like a said our device is a beast and LOS just flaunts it. Have you checked who's the maintainer of the unofficial Los for rn4? Right... It's the maintainer of the official RR of rn3 ? as said already in a answer for you unofficial does not mean some random guy maintains it... Why don't you read and check yourself who the Maintainer is?
Since I switched to xiaomi the XDA threads are full over and over with the same boring unnecessary questions. ?

Redmi note 4 mtk nikel rom suggestion

Hi all, I'm going to clean my redmi note 4 mtk and I want to try something newer than android 6 and miui global stable 9.6.1.0.
Any suggestion? the smartphone is unlocked and rooted.
I doubt we'll ever see any working rom with Android newer than 6.0.1 but you can always try latest MIUI 10 from xiaomi.eu
I searched on xiaomi.eu but I find only HMNote5 rom, nothing with HMNote4 name

The stable version of MIUI 10 for HMNote4 wasn't released yet.
You can use the weekly (developer) build from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xi...files/xiaomi.eu/MIUI-WEEKLY-RELEASES/8.10.11/
With this can I update as soon a build was published without loosing data?
I'm thinking to be up to date each installing each weekly until become stable
There are custom roms with Android 7 but i think they are not MIUI roms... AOSP or similar...
Me personally, prefer MIUI and i firmly stay with MIUI8...for me,best battery life. On MIUI9 is irritating that they placed adds all around (in file manager, cleaner, security etc).
And with 9.6.1.0 my battery lasted for maximum 14h and 4h of SOT... With 8.2.1.0 (on which i returned yesterday) it lasts for roughly 30h and 6,5-7h of SOT... I use both sim slots, am heavy user due to business number (push emails, calls, sms...), WiFi, mobile internet, GPS constantly on...
There are some AOSP roms with even better battery life, but as i said, i like and prefer MIUI ☺
P.S. and my phone is almost 2 years old [emoji123]
Sent from my Redmi Note 4 using Tapatalk
Many thanks
You tried others non MIUI rom, if I understood.
Any hint? Is it possible to downgrade from 9.6.1.0 to 8.2.1.0?

I had battery drain since 1 month ago but without MIUI update, I don't know why.
Was more than 1 year ago I made a fresh install so I decided to try beta MIUI 10 and seems no drain (not the best duration but no drain for sure)

Many thanks
You tried others non MIUI rom, if I understood.
Any hint? Is it possible to downgrade from 9.6.1.0 to 8.2.1.0?

It is, i downgraded it from 9.6.1.0 to 8.2.1.0 using MiFlash tool...but be carefull, there is a special MiFlash Tool version for MTK processors.
I found this version on some YouTube clip, the guy left download link in the description ☺
Yes, i tried non-MIUI roms as well,but i prefer MIUI ☺
As i saw, there is Android One for Xiaomi A1 available for Redmi Note 4,fully functional only some setups in camera not working (which is expected) so if you like, you can try that one as well ☺

Hi:
The provided link seems to be for Snapdragon (MIDO), not for Mediatek (Nikel).
Do you know if there is a version for our device?
Regards

There are no custom ROMs for your device. Only those based on MIUI like xiaomi.eu
