Any drawbacks of 965FD (dual sim) vs G965F for rooting and general use? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Since I intend to root, I am looking at picking up an Exynos version of the G9+. Is there any reason NOT to get the dual sim model? I really don't need it, but it happens to be easier to find in the US than the single sim version.

S9+ G9650 on T-mobile US for WiFi calling/VoLTE + Root?

Trying to decide whether to get G965FD or G9650 to use with T-mobile US. G9650 will have unlockable bootloader for rooting the device, correct? I realize the device is too new and there is no root for Chinese/HK variant yet but it will be there soon if it has unlocked bootloader.
Will flashing T-mobile US CSC give the VoLTE+WiFi calling features while preserving the unlocked bootloader and root?
The only reason I ask is because Exynos S7/S8+ modem download speeds suck on T-mobile US(10Mbps vs 60Mbps on Qualcomm in same location at same time when I tested). And then G9650 may support band71 as G965FD does not for 600MHz LTE on Tmobile.
Bump...
damn, does S9+ SM-G9650 have or not unlocked bootloader ?
would awesome to have 256gb vs low 128gb on S9+ SM-G965F
It has an unlocked bootloader from what others have posted so far. In fact there is first version of TWRP being tested on it looks like. Not sure if we can flash US CSC on it though. Also the modem on it probably is missing band 71 like international Exynos. There won't be many ROMs out for it but at least you can get root, dual SIM and Snapdragon advantage(as mentioned in reviews) I guess....
I think I'm only going to root if there is a way to go back to stock if I want.
I had an LG V20 on Sprint and I rooted it. Which is fine. All worked well and I was able to uninstall LG related crap I did not want. But with that I could not receive Android updates. I wasn't running a custom ROM, I just wanted root to remove LG installed crap.

Hi from Oz (Nova 3e)

Just a hello from a new member and some info on my phone, in case this sort of info is helpful to anyone:
Country: Australia
Phone: Nova 3e
Model: ANE-LX2J
Current build number: ANE-LX2J 8.0.0.121(C636)
Note the phone just updated earlier today with whatever incremental changes were made relative to when this was out of the box (bought it a week and a half ago from JB).
I've grabbed the unlock code from the Huawei website, just need to go through that process then will likely root the phone and maybe install an alternate bootloader. But still trying to figure out what actually will be compatible with *my* phone, as compared with all the other P20 Lite variants.
#1 request for now would be to have a solid, no-frills AOSP-based ROM to replace EMUI. Whatever I can do on to help out on that front...
Cheers
Nik
Fingers crossed OpenKirin will have a good option for this device soon :good:
dual sim firmware code
I too bought the Nova 3e from JB-hifi in Australia. However, I was disappointed to find that it did not have the dual-sim option under my settings page. Wondering if anyone knows how to interpret the firmware naming conventions to identify dual/single sim options? My model is the ANE-LX2J, country code 636, current build is 121. Love to be able to flash this to a dual sim option, without losing the correct 4G bands required in Australia. Thank you in advance for any knowledge sharing.

Flashing SM-G9650 (Brazil) into SM-G965U1 (US)?

Hi. I want to flash a Brazilian firmware (dual SIM) into my US hardware (single SIM). Both are Snapdragon. Reason is that I want to use the Brazilian Samsung Pay. Bough the phone in the US but I live in Brazil.
Can I flash THIS ROM without problems? Will it trigger Knox? Any loss in functionality?
Thank you all.

not possible. also, is there not a CSC for your area you can flash instead?
I don't know why these guys say it's not possible, maybe it isn't with your model. I also don't want to give you any bad ideas or anything, so use your own discretion & research.
My phone was unusable when I did this, so I had nothing to lose when I did this (It worked though).
I easily flashed my canadian note 8 with a us firmware using modified odin (must be same version bootloader).
It has warranty status 0x0 (aka, Knox is NOT tripped).
AGAIN, I'm not advising you try this with your model, unless you know what you're doing. I just want to make the information available to you.
Edit: I'm just waiting for someone to upload snapdragon beta 3 one ui 2.0. I'm going to try the same method to convert my Canadian s9+ to USA version.
Edit 2: I can confirm this method works on my Canadian s9+ aswell.

Yeah I don't think it'll work on mine, since it's a single sim phone, and the ROM I wanted was for a dual sim version. Unless of course the hardware is the same and the second SIM slot is present. I could try, but I don't want to risk it. Maybe later when Sammy stops updating the phone.

Unfortunately not. The SM-G965U1 is the US unlocked version. There are only CSCs for American carriers.

if its truly unlocked, then you should already have the U1 firmware on it. Get modded Odin and the U1 firmware, flash it in Odin and go from there. I never looked back after ditching the carrier junk on my phone
Sometime ago I did somethinh like that on my Arabian S7 Edge that I bough in Paraguai, it was Dual Sim model and i flashed ZTO CSC via Odin, and the phone was working well, but i'm not sure if the reverse works, and even the models were similar (F vs FD version) in your case u have 965U vs 9650, I would not take that risk, i thing that a korean or chinese model is 9650 too
look at this picture, US version has more bands so the modem could be different, you can try but you're risking your phone

yep, they are different phones that just so happen to use the same processor. Different bootloader, same chassis for whatever reason. Anyways, there have been threads talking about converting the 9650 to a 965u, but ive never seen anyone confirming that it indeed works. Big risk, but as long as one can get back to Odin mode, one should be good.

what are the different models coming out?

any info on a dual sim version?
I'd like to know this. The Samsung website refers to dual sim, but doesn't say which models have it. Have ordered a 256gb UK version, don't need dual but it would be nice
I am also looking for the same info, there is still no clear list with which model has dual sim support (physical nano sim slots).
The international model name SM-G991B/DS suggests a dual sim (DS) support, but I cannot find if this is dual physical slots or one slot + esim.
If anyone has a version with the dual physical slots, it would be great to report the model version here.
Thanks !

Esim functionality on unlocked AT&T version?

I was curious if anyone that had unlocked the AT&T version of the duo has been able to use the esim functionality.
The AT&T version does not support esim. I am trying to get an unlocked rom to test but so far did not find a copy of the image yet

If you could give a heads up if/when you do, that'd be great. I'll do likewise.
My other question is, there shouldn't be any issues flashing an unlocked stock ROM on an unlocked AT&T device should there?
Hardware wise, are they identical? With the differences merely being the preinstalled bloat, and it being (software) locked to a network?
