I really don't understand why people love amoled displays, yea it has the best blacks, but the colors are punchy, uncomfortable to the eye and not even close to natural,
On the the other side there is LCD IPS displays which brings a very natural colors, a pleasant to see and not so bad blacks after all especially on The G5, for me AMOLED displays are considered as a disadvantage cuz i prefer natural colors, believe it or not this is one of the reasons i skipped the S7

I agree though that IPS has more natural colours.

When I was buying a new phone I had in front of me LG G5 and S7 Edge. I had many IPS display phones but I just hate it when they have blueish black tint, and even though that G5 doesn't have a aggressive blueish tint, it still has a lot worse display than S7 Edge does. Watching videos is painful all colours look inaccurate and kind of washed out. For average user LG G5 display will be fine. But if someone wants a really stunning display they will go for the Amoled.
Not trying to offend anyone, I think that LG G5 is a great device, I was considering it over S7 Edge for the camera angle but when I found out that there is no root then I just bought S7 Edge other than that many people were complaining about the battery life. I also really like LG System UI.

I found watching videos on the G5 a joy, iam not a fan boy or anything simply saying the truth, i had a galaxy s4, s6 and a nexus 5 before, right now i am using the G5, in my persepctive the G5's display is way better than the one found on the S6, i just hate how the colors look unreal and oversaturated, the moment i held the G5 i was stunned by the brilliant color accuracy and how natural it looked.
For the record i have the international G5 and its rooted????
In my opinion I prefer the IPS Quantum Display which also featured in my LG G4, not like over-saturated colours and light bleed by the LED backlits.
When viewing on the G4 it's fantastic to look at the IPS Quantum Display which feels so close to AMOLED.
If you compare orange screen in IPS Quantum Display versus AMOLED, it clearly shows that orange on the AMOLED looks really red. IPS Quantum Display wins here.

When I was looking for a new phone there was no root for G5.
And I guess You're right . Some people like extreme saturation (me) and some prefer slightly more natural tones. Honestly I think that S7 Edge could be even more saturated but yeah.. I'm addicted to extreme saturation

Do you just repeat stuff or measure it or do you just state things as a fact? Can you provide hard facts?
Fact is, the AMOLED on the S7 used in Basic mode has a very good color accuracy and the Note 5 won the shootout against the iphone 6.
Even the first amoled werent that bad after all. People just thought it was punchy because the other phones were worse in color reproduction and therefore thought it is too punchy.
I switched after 6 years from AMOLED to IPS on the G5, honestly I think both are good with only few disadvantages.

I PREFER QUANTUM IPS QHD OVER AMOLED
I love OLEDs, but am not a fan of AMOLEDs due to their stupid pentile structure. This makes the resolution of the display to 66% of what they've advertised and makes everything look kind of zig-zaggy (if you look at it closely).

I agree I have the s7 and g5 and although the s7 display looks better the g5 seems sharper and if I'm honest in most videos just as good (apart from the super contrast and colors of course )

If you're colorblind, please disregard this thread. Rate this thread to express how you deem the color saturation and accuracy of the LG G6's display. A higher rating indicates that you think that color accuracy is very high and saturation is excellent.

The LCD is fairly color accurate all considering. This screen is very close to what I achieve using a hardware color calibrate with my work machines. The reds are not too red (faux saturation) and the cooler tones show up as prominently.
It's just a shame I can't hook up a hardware calibrator to it to test it.

I am coming from a OnePlus 3T, so when first firing up the G6 I was a little disappointed. I couldn't believe how much more vivid the AMOLED screen was compared to the LCD. Well, now that I have been using the G6 exclusively for the past two days, I am growing quite fond of this screen. The colors are quite accurate and precise, just not as vivid/saturated as what I was looking at for the past 6 months. Liking this phone more and more each day.
The screen color temperature is definitely on the cool side, certainly higher than 6500K.
It is not pleasant at first for me. I've been using Nexus 6P on sRGB mode for more than a year, and the color saturation on the G6 under default, out of the box settings is disheartening.
To somehow mitigate this, what I did was to enable ComfortView, set at Low Setting. It's far from perfect, but that's better than nothing.

From what I saw side by side compared to the S8+ at full brightness, I could see the whites having a more pinkish hue very slightly than the S8+. The S8+ having brighter highlights. Obviously, the S8+ also has deeper blacks, more saturated, and viewing angles are much better because of its AMOLED display. Other than that, the overall range of colours seemed fairly close between the G6 and S8+.
Not sure who will see this but I think the G6 LCD screen compared to an amoled like the one's on the oneplus 3/3t/5 and the s8/s8+ is just better in certain scenarios. There are some people who might be audiophile esque and want high fidelity and things like that. And there might be some people who like bass boosted beat headphones and other things like that which are not accurate at all but are enjoyable on a certain level. If you like big bass sound and you are that kind of person then you will like the amoled screen but I am personally not. I like knowing that what I see on my screen is what it is supposed to look like.
For instance the other day I was looking at a picture of the fifty shades of gray poster. It is supposed to be black and gray but it had a colored tint to it on the s8 compared to a g6 which looked as it should. All I am saying is that there are going to be times when the s8 because it pops colors so much will make what you see innacurate. And that might bother you or it might not. But it bothers me.
Exactly what Scape said. Tech people who know their stuff want accurate color reproduction and analytic sound. The wide mass wants flashy Colors and boomsound. Easy people rate phones by how saturated the phone looks. The more saturation = the better. This is complete BS for people who have knowledge about Electronics. Its like comparing people who buy a Classic car and put Chrome rims on it not caring for the paint because "CROME RIMZ M8". Where there are also people which buy a classic car, care to make it look as original as possible and know every part of their car.
The 2nd. Car may look boring to people, but its quality and worthwise extremely preferable. For example a natural Color reproduction can help when taking photos with the G6. If you take a photo on the Amoled Screen of a Galaxy, and then open it on your calibrated IPS, you will be flashed about how different it looks then on the phone. Thats not what you want.
Regarding the Bass... Well i like perfect color recreation but i hate neutral speakers or headphones, im quite a basshead but i still want a good clarity, deep stage and low noise.

Yeah, i kept my custom color setting enabled for a few weeks since the blue color looked way better. It is only when switching back to the default setting that i noticed how washed out the reds looked. I reverted back to the defaults.

I bought G6 after iP6S+ and I'm really disappointed from display over all. Blue is on G6 boosted as hell. At home I have calibrated displays and iPhone is much more closer. I can't watch photos (photographer) on G6 because of it. Even automatic brightness control is not ok for me. It's still dimmer than I want. LuxLite solved that but colors are terrible.

This is bad news for me, I find the G6 screen beautiful (I am under 7.0) and I do not like at all the rendering amoled screens, precisely because of the saturated colors..
I found on 7.0 that the flesh tones on netflix and terrarium tv were way washed out.looked like everyone never saw the sun lol Na just saying I think LG just corrected the saturation a little bit to not make things so washed out looking.The reds are a little darker also instead of a orangey yellow tint.And like before the greens were not as dark .kinda reminded me of a mint or pastel green.Now on Oreo it is a true green and red.
Is there any app or any online guides to correct the LG G6 color accuracy and get true neutral white balance?
I have s8 and G6. I hate Amoled with that compotish colors. White is not white. Ever with pink or blue or yellow. Amoled is like woman with silicon tits. Far from reality. For me LG and Sony make most better displays.
Does anyone use this? I did for a while. I found it very good at adjusting the blues making them a bit darker FB looks much better IMO after I adjusted it

Coming from an Amoled display makes me curious about the IPS screen quality of the Mate 10.
Compared with other Flagship's IPS displays out there, Is it on par with let's say the iphone 7/8's screen or is it better/worse?

It's slightly worse display, I just switched from an iPhone 7+. Colors on the iPhone are more vibrant and can display more colors I think.
Seems like it's not DCI P3 compliant.
I switched from my Galaxy Note Edge and found the LCD display worse at first but I have gotten used to it. Make sure to turn on vivid mode (which doesn't seem to be on by default but makes so much difference - you can see how washed out the Mate 10 colors are in the shop side by side with the Mate 10 Pro which I find so stupid because as soon as I turn on vivid mode for them, they look more comparable), switch off the auto-brightness and set the resolution to QHD and turn off smart display resolution (Battery life will take a slight hit but it is so worth it). You will grow to like it that way especially when you see how crisp the display is when playing high resolution games. Viewing angles can't compare to the Samsung AMOLED screen though.

Asking for other e-book readers experience is smart, but be aware your "5%" on the Samsung Note 4 may be much different on other phones.
What is your "5%" in lumens? Give us a real number. Each OLED OEM sets a different minimum brightness level. Saying you like 5% on Samsung Note 4 is useless. That might be 20% or 25% brightness of the LG V30...
That's what Google did for the 2017 Pixel 2 XL -- even though they use the same LG display as the V30 Google set a much higher minimum brightness level. 5% of the Pixel 2 XL is 25%, 30% of the V30. LG lets their display get MUCH darker.

Yes, I am aware 5 % on the Note 4 is not the same on the V30. I just mentioned it in passing, could just as well have said I keep the screen on "almost as dark as it gets".
I think a further question is, are the display issues less noticeable on dark brown/blackish background vs. the grey most comparisons use as the example?
I keep the background not-quite-black and font not-quite-white (in ither words: yellowish), because it's easier on the eyes than the contrast of simple black and white.

I'm currently using Tab S4, but I want to switch to S7 11 inches. As we all know there is a LCD display.
Generally AMOLED is better, but do I see big difference between these two? I could order S7+, but it is just too big for me.
Can you please advise? I don't want to be disappointed every time I look on my new tablet.

personally i would go amoled anyday. lcd the blacks will look dark grey.
Accustomed to the AMOLED display now going back to a LCD... eeh. Since i like having most of my stuff in dark mode anyways, the AMOLED will be considerably better on battery life for me. Even it being slightly bigger (1" x .5" roughly) vs the S4.... 12.4" screen imo would be worth it. I'm looking forward to the S7+ myself!
Going from tab s4 to the s7 plus screen is seriously impressive.
The screen with 120hz is the best I have ever seen.
I use my S4 as a huge google maps / waze GPS when in the car, is the S7+ screen outside the legal limits if you get pulled over? I think 11 inches is the largest screen you are allowed to have ( United States)
I have both the Tab S 7 and the S7+.
Avoid the S7 as the screen looks terrible, dull and pixelated. It doesn't even hold a candle to the screen of the Tab S3.
In contrast the S7+ screen looks glorious.
I had the tab s4, s5e and recently picked up the regular tab s7. During regular use, I would say there's not a huge difference, but the viewing angles are a little better on the amoled screens. If you watch content in low light, you will notice that the blacks aren't as inky black....but on my amoled screens, I get a bit of black crush/banding when displaying greys at low brightnesses.
I would say that using it is a much better experience than the tab S4, if you include the keyboard case. It makes it much closer to an actual 2-1 device compared to the prior generatios.
No comparison s7 lcd is crap compared to s4 and s6 ambled. S7 plus screen is fantastic. If you want lcd buy an ipad
I have not used other tablets but own the note 9. I didn't expect the LCD to look great after all the reviews. Thankfully I have been surprised by how much I like it. I am drawing, gaming and content and the only thing I wish it included was the keyboard and the themes store. I will get the keyboard later. 11" 120Hz screen is very nice. Having the 5g version this will be a really fun tablet.
Have you people actually used the S7? I have the S7+ but I've used the 11" S7 and it's a really really nice screen. I can't imagine the S4 looks better. Do not be afraid to buy the S7 if it's the form factor you want.

I don't think anyone is saying that. I think the point is to compare the Tab S4 screen to the Tab S7. The S7 has a higher resolution than the S4 and is a really really good screen for not being AMOLED.

The next marketing victim.
Simply go to wikipedia or ask s.o. with knowledge. But avoid sponsored reviewers on YouTube living from the stuff they present.
OLED are great for average usage. Biggest advantage: pitch dark blacks and strong contrasts as well as saturation.
Biggest down-side: uneven decay by color over lifetime. -> strongest color shift, burn-in effect...
LCD can be much brighter, have the highest color accuracy and stability, but lack the OLED high saturation and contrasts. Hence, blacks are not really dark.
It always come to the use case.
You wanna play, watch movies, use many apps. Great: OLED is for you. Most people even do not keep their devices longer than 2 years, so burn- in will not appear. Even my 3.5 years old s8 phone have not a really notable burn-in. And for the color shift I care by adjustments the rgb levels.
You want a working device, showing all day long office, use it as a display mount on a wall, showing static areas: OLED will have burn-in within less of a year.
That is the reason you will not find OLEDs in offices, not to talk from company's relying in color accuracy.
There's a reason, companies like Samsung spend billions in developing new techniques like Q-\Micro-LED.
Finally: the s7 has a really great LCD, superior to most others LCD devices. In contrast to OLEDs, it lacks perfect blacks and oversatturation. Does it fall behind professional monitors? Not really - but every OLED will.
If color accuracy is a thing for you? Go for the s7, especially you do not like the bigger size of the s7+. If perfect black and strong contrast is your thing, take the s7+, but remember the mentioned draw backs of OLEDs.
Of course LCD can be brighter, they just put in brighter edge or back lighting at which point your color accuracy and consistency across the device goes to crap. This is one reason why anyone who calibrates an LCD TV set's base brightness quite low.
Either way I'm done arguing, the one thing that was said that is correct is "go see them for yourself" don't believe anyone here(including me) which screen is better for you.
Everyone sees differently. I don't see any colors the same as others do so the S7 screen looks great. Not better and certainly not any less then any OLED I have looked at.
I barely touch my note 9 these days. Love the screen size etc for gaming and watching movies in bed.
I don't know where people learnt that AMOLEDs are better, they are worse than LCD: Amoleds has little more details in black with blacker blacks at the cost of having less dynamic range with burned highlights (false high contrast illusion, for a high contrast to be high you need details in shadow and highlights), and the worse thing you will find in any Amoled is PWM that is not present in the S7 LCD (point your cell camera in super slow motion to an Amoled screen and see what you get in any Amoled/Oled brand...), there is a reason why the specs of high end monitors says NO PWM, thus for a tablet is important not to have AMOLED if you don't want eye strain or other health issues as the time pass.
When I bought my Tab S7 was because of the LCD display, speed and audio output, last week I used it to sign a contract very well in the place of my turtle Onyx Boox Note (I don't use often the pen but is very responsive, the Onyx feels more like a paper but the screen is prone to scratches); I had Amoleds before in tablets and were horrible for my eyes and I don't like the burned highlights. I have been using the S7 for a month and I'm very happy with my choice and I use much less my S10+ (I hope Samsung will release smartphones with LCD and not curved screens...)
I don't see any reason why in a tablet someone should use Amoled.

Please stop telling people that amoled is god made. S6 screens are full of wobble. S4 and lower were oversaturated and settings couldn't be really changed. All "benifit" of amoled was there in saturation and non existent accuracy. Once saturation removed there was no real difference between lcd aside high propensity to burn depending on usage and blinking individual pixels. I am not saying that lcd is better but definitely not as much worse as you kije trying to shill about godlike amoled, but sung is always doesn't know what the hell they are doing. They doing whatever without understanding, everytime new variety of terrible obviously stupid decision.

If someone should consider color accuracy at all levels of brightness (Amoleds as the brighness goes up, the colors are totally off), dynamic range and health, LCDs with no PWM are by long much better than Oleds, the only advantage of Oleds are the deep blacks, lets wait for the minileds if they will have PWM or not.
By the way, all of my phones are and were amoled, my televisions are Oled and all have the nefarious PWM (LG say they don't but is a lie, I checked them with my camera) but I rarely watch them.
What about your laptop?... did you checked PWM before buying it or did you only check battery life, CPU and memory? Most of the laptops has tremendous PWM that is really bad to your eyes, but nobody is talking about this...
Why Apple and other brands put Amoled in their phones? because of consumerism, Samsung marketing (LG for Oled TVs) tried to convince hard the public for lot of years that the deep blacks is the way to go but they didn't explain at what cost including your health.
