UPDATE USB type c not working - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

UPDATE:
my fault. Didn't remember I disabled the thunderbolt feat in the bios.
Hi, I got a USB type c 3.1 which I connect to the 3.1 type c port of my computer. When I connect the mobile it only charges it. Trying with installing latest (1.5.65) Samsung drivers to no avail.
Want to use it to transfer files.. What's wrong with what?!

Your cable may not have wires for data transfer? Try a cable certified for data.

It works with other phones, s9 displays fast charging.. Is there a way to change it to mtp or something?

Did you buy a cheap cable from Amazon or Ebay, possibly an uncertified cable? If so, that's probably the reason why. Unfortunately the cheap cables are not wired correctly and do not support all the features.
Post a link to the cable you purchased and we can better determine the cause. Also, what kind of computer do you have? Laptop? Desktop? Proper USB 3.1 drivers installed for the port? Etc.

It's an €20 amazon basics cable.. Asus z170 Pro native Intel 3.1 type C port

Are there different kinds of type-c cable? Or the data transfer of type-c cables are easily destroyed?

[Q] USB Cable

Good Morning
When I want to connect my droid X phone to my laptop, the cable is usb on one end and micro usb on the other end. So can I use that on my Sony S also to connect to the laptop? or are there different wires inside the cable or something so that I cannot use it, different wattage or amperage or whatever??
As always I am technically challenged LOL
Sandy
The Sony Tablet S uses the standard Micro-USB cable so you'll be able to connect to your laptop with no problems.
It will work for both, given the chip( Mini USB) is the same for both. The cable just carries the current. It is the charger portion that puts out the specific voltages. You are good to go as long as the mini USB fits

Really? This works?
Uh oh. I've tried hooking up my tablet to the PC with a standard micro usb cable. And also with the sony converter that makes it a normal sized USB port and a double ended USB cable. Both of these didn't do anything for me. I've just been transferring files to/from it with the sony converter and a jump drive.
Anyways, let me know if everyone else is normally hooking the tablet to a PC or if you guys are just assuming. Thanks

You should only need the one cable.. The cable I use for my HTC Desire HD works on the tablet and the same with the cable for the Galaxy S II as they are the same kind of cable.
Just connect micro USB, from tablet to PC and it works

Same here. I plug it in with a cheap USB <-> Micro-USB cable and it recognises it instantly and I can copy stuff to and from without even having to mount the storage manually.
Weird!! I tried plugging it in with my normal phone's micro usb cable when I first bought it and nothing happened. I tried again last night and nothing happened.
I just read all your posts about how it will work and I tried again, and my computer recognized it this time.

MicroUSB Hub?

Does anyone know a place to buy a MicroUSB hub? I would like to connect the hub to the phone and then connect at least 3 other microUSB devices. There are plenty of these for standard USB but nothing for micro. The usage case is connecting my phone to the TV via HDMI, still being able to charge the phone and connect my Xbox adapter to use my controller. I know the HDMI adapters have one microUSB port for charging but not two. Any suggestions?
I don't think they exist and even if it did how could it possibly work?

if you buy the adapter here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322406) you can plug a normal usb hub into and use it that way.

as far as xbox controllers and hdmi adapters you got me there.. havent tried any of that
Your best bet is to grab the microusb otg cable, I beloved its linked above it was like 3.50$. From there you would want a self powered hub. I use to play around with it and hook up ex. a USB stick, keyboard, mouse. I've heard of ppl hooking up even biggger mass storage devices. But unfortunately the one thing you can't do is be able to use the hub/cable simultaneously with the MHL adapter for HDMI. I eventually gave in and just bought a ps3 controller because you can use the HDMI to TV simultaneously paired with a controller or another Bluetooth device. For what its worth I still am pretty amazed at using that hacked apk of Onlive with the sixaxis app as native gamepad all via HDMI looks great.

USB hub attaches to microusb or USB devices
This device has two short cables. One leads to a micro usb male, the other to a standard USB male.
The sockets on the hub are standard USB female.

WORKING Insignia USB3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet

Picked these up locally at Best Buy. Plug and Play. Finally this box is working like it should.. No more buffering and wifi cut outs.. Its almost like a brand new machine.. I highly urge anyone with buffering and wifi issues to pick one up.
Which OTG cable are you using to hook this up to your Nexus Player?

I had bought a verbatim usb stick at the local office depot that came with the OTG adapter.
http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/831610/Verbatim-Store-n-Go-Nano-USB/
I had bought the OTG a while back for another project but i imagine any adapter should work.
Nice. I misread and thought this was an USB hub by Insignia. My local Best Buy carries an Belkin USB 3.0 hub with ethernet which I might get since I could use the USB ports for both a mouse (TWRP) and media storage. Thanks for the heads up.

I would except one thing... the ethernet port on it doesn't work at all with the Nexus Player. So not really worth picking up.
The item i referenced in the top post is the only item i was able to find locally at a brick and mortar type store that would work with the nexus.
Bummer

The Gigabit Ethernet adapter on this three way USB3.0 hub works fine through an OTG cable, although from memory it didn't start working until after I'd performed the 5.1.1 upgrade.
Although you obviously only get USB2 (480Mbps) speeds as thats all NP USB2.0 port can handle.
This enables my combined USB Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard adaptor to work fine and and leaves free USB slots for additional USB local storage devices ie flash drives not any devices which require powering, otherwise you'll be better of buying a powered USB hub.

Remote NDIS / USB Tethering Speed USB 3.1

Hello,
The XZ1 has a USB 3.1 C Connector right? Therefore it is capable of 5 Gbit/s (or 10?).
Within Windows 10 the tethered connection (Remote NDIS Compatible Device) is shown as a 425,9 Mbit/s Connection (Connected to a USB 3.0 ). Thats the same speed I am getting from a USB 2.0 Device.
Did I do or understand something wrong?
Thank you!

While it's got the Type-C USB connector, it is not clear if the port actually supports USB3.0 or higher.
The chipset is capable of that, but not sure about Sony's implementation.
I haven't yet tried to find out due to my lack of Type-C USB3 cables.
The one they shipped with the phone is a cheap USB2 one.

According to Sonys website the connector is USB 3.1 gen 5. Which means up to 5gbit/s.
How to check if the cable is USB c to a 3.1/3 or 2 without "opening"?

Interesting, they omitted the USB version info on the Compact's technical data page.
USB 3.x cables are supposed to have blue plastic inside the Type A connector.
There's also 5 additional pins behind the 4 standard ones that one could see.

Hm okay I also bought one cable which is supposed to have USB3 but it was from aliexpress so cant be sure. On the German page it is described as USB 3.1 while *5 explains that it is 3.1 gen 1 5gbit/s
FYI. I Bought a USB 3.0 Cable and now i get a 851,9Mbit/s connection (NDIS according to Windows).

Problems with USB3

I have a T-Mobile LG V30 running on software H93220k, and I notice that when I plug it into a USB3 port (both desktop and laptop) that it goes in and out of connectivity. However, connect it to a USB2 port and it's all good. I don't have any issues charging it or connecting it to Android Auto. Anyone else experiencing these issues?
What cable are you using? The cable that is included is USB2.0 and my laptops given me a bit of fuss with its usb 3 ports and the original cable
So far it's with any USB C cable I use. I didn't use to have this problem, as I was able to flash Oreo using LG Bridge and backup the phone.
Maybe the port is dirty or something?

The included cable is a bit weird. I rooted mine and I couldn't even get past the 1st step which was using fastboot to unlock the bootloader because when I used the stock cable it wouldn't read the device in fastboot. But it would read it in download or whatever it's called for using LGUP from the same USB port. The laptop I had only had USB 3 ports but I did try it on my brothers MacBook which only has USB 2 and it was the same result. As soon as I used one of my other cheap amazon cables it worked flawlessly lol.
