[Q] Google Voice and SMS?!

Hi everyone. I am soon going to get an unlocked phone(probably the upcoming Oppo Find 7 or the upcoming Nexus 5) and I am not going to get a plan for the phone. Instead I am going to be using WiFi to make calls and texts(a feature called Voice Over IP). I am going to be using the Google Voice service to be doing this. So I hear that the call quality for Google Voice is great but not so much the texting feature. Can somebody provide me with a texting service that allows you to send texts in the states and also allows you to send picture messages in the states. I am not looking for international texting. But if the app anybody recommends has that feature I wouldn't mind. Can somebody please reply fast so I can test out the texting application on Bluestacks(Android Virtual Machine) and see if I like it or not. Thanks.

[Q] Making Calls/SMS with Google Voice

Briefly, is there any way to do such a thing on a tablet?
Longly: I understand there were a couple of apps that could use my google voice number for VoIP calling, but that all ended a couple of weeks ago thanks to Google flipping an XMPP (?) switch.
The Google voice app does not run on my device (I am in contemplating/researching rooting and romming to get it going). But if it did, could I make calls from within that app? Would it do sms from within that app?
It appears that hangouts android will do sms on phone devices, but I have not found a way to enable it on my wifi only tablet. On my iOS device (don't hate--I have just bought my first Android device and am coming around), hangouts app will allow me to call direct with Google voice, but not sms. (I am painfully aware, as are many, that android hangouts does not have calling functionality. An odd state of affairs, it seems) The google voice app will allow me to sms with my google voice number, but not call. It calls my phone and and then completes the outgoing call. Is this how the google voice app works on an android phone device? Does it similarly dial your phone device if you are running the voice app on a wifi-only tablet?
Any other information you think is pertinent?
I am indebted to those who read and especially to those who reply.
Your pal,
fortfive

[Q] Huawei Honor 6 [H60-L02]: None of Missed Call Notification Applications Work

Dear all,
I have a brand new Huawei Honor 6 [H60-L02], Chinese version. I could have purchased the European version, but the Chinese one has two SIM card slots, which I found necessary. The phone is fully updated, and so far I haven't done any changes to its OS. It is even not rooted.
On my previous phones, I loved Missed Call Reminder applications. I simply did not have to regularly check my phone for missed calls, missed SMS messages, or emails. If there was anything for me, the phone regularly played a sound, which signalized that there was anything requiring my attention in the phone.
With Huawei Honor 6, however, none of the Missed Call Reminders work. I have tried large number of them:
Missed Call Reminder
Missed Call SMS Reminder
Missed Call Alert
Missed Call
Missed Call / SMS Reminder
Missed Call Smart extension
Call Reminder
Alert.me
... couple of others
I would therefore need to help with following questions, please:
Is there any trick to do, to enable those missed call reminder apps?
Should my phone be rooted to have call reminders to work?
Should I replace my phone ROM?
Are you aware of any other call reminder app that would work?
Is there any other workaround that comes to your mind?
I would really appreciate solution to this problem, as I do not necessarily want to change my habits and start checking my phone every while. I am willing to root my phone, or reinstall the ROM if I have to.
Here is detailed info about my Phone and OS:
Model: Huawei Honor 6
Model Number: H60-L02
Origin: China / Chinese Version
Present Location: Germany
Android Version: 4.4.2
EMUI Version: EMUI 3.0
Build Number: B307
SIM Slots: Dual SIM
Thank you many times in advance.

[Q] Advice on purchase + capabilities (SMS)

Hey folks,
So here's the rundown.
My wife is deaf and communicates a whole lot via SMS. She cannot use voice telephony at all.
I am on Verizon, and they do have the Z2 available. I was looking at tablets that should support SMS.
Verizon does SMS via CDMA only so most of their tablets won't do SMS period. They tell me it is impossible, except I have a friend with an older Nexus 7 with CDMA and it works perfectly with straight SMS.
I have a tablet with LTE, and when I send a SMS message from it, it says it is coming from my phone, not the number assigned to the tablet....(this uses the built-in Verizon Messages app)
What I want to know is if I can add an SMS app, set it as the default, and then actually use it?
In the store, I installed 8SMS but Verizon appears to have removed the menu entries for setting default SMS app, and nor could I do it from within the application.
So, two things: Has anyone done this? Could someone give it a try?
Also, I am reading a whole lot about issues with the touch screen I had never heard of. Is this really wide-spread, or just a small sampling of this model? I really want a solid device for her to use. This will replace her phone and existing tablet if I can get the SMS to work. Do you recommend this device overall?
Yes, I know, I could install some crap app that emulates SMS but I really need to port her number and have the reliability of SMS. Frankly, I don't trust the companies providing SMS gateways on the internet...
I could possibly port her number to Google Voice, and just have her use that. Anyone know how reliable that would be?

Any updates on Group Texting issue?

Hi - Im in the US on T-Mobile & I recently bought the Mate 10 Pro International version - BLA-L29. I upgraded from Mate 9 MHA-L29 (US version) because I wanted 4G on both sims. EMUI = 8.0.0
Re-opening this question as I haven't seen any updates in a while for Group text option MMS on huawei messaging app
The option for Group Messaging setting is missing. Its there on the Mate 9 and missing on Mate 10. I want to set "send MMS to all recipients". I have the same EMUI and Messaging version on both phones but not there on the Mate 10. How is that possible?
Understand that the work around for Group Text is to go to Textra. I just have heartburn that it works on Mate 9 and doesn't even exist on Mate 10.
Any ideas if/when Huawei will fix this? I can't seem to find release notes or a known issues db. BTW - I called support and no help there...
Thanks for any guidance! Meanwhile, I'm dusting off the Mate 9...
yeah, i have the same issue. been using google messages. i thought it was like a bug or someting, factory resetted the phone a few times. So been using google/android message since.
Spoke to FunkyHuawei and they think this Group Messaging setting (send in bulk as an MMS chat) is a US-specific feature. That explains why I see it on my Mate 9 US and not on this Mate 10 International.
At this point (August 2018), the option is to use FunkyHuawei tools to rebrand my BLA-L29 from the International version to the US version. That keeps the dual sim and adds the US features.
I like that I have an option (thanks to FunkyHuawei)! In the end, instead of rebranding, I went ahead and installed Textra as my default app and group messaging is finally working again.
