How do I enter recovery mode on a SONY Xperia Z2 LTE tablet SGP521 (not rooted)? - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have spent literally days, in an ultimate attempt to upgrade to a ROM of Android 8.1
I have never attempted anything like this and it seemed to be straight forward enough to try myself. I quickly realised that I needed to install TWRP on my tablet. Then upon hours more research I learned that to do this, the tablet must be rooted. But it cannot be rooted if it is running Android 6.1.0, which it currently is. So I need to downgrade it to it's original firmware, something like Android 4.4.1. But then one of the steps of doing this is that it also needs to be rooted. To root the device I must enter recovery mode. I have tried the physical button pushing method so MANY times, I have sore hands now. It didn't even work once. How else can this be achieved on my device? What other methods can I use? I have heard of something called ADB.... or something like that. As a complete beginner I am unfamiliar with how to use this. Could someone please help me?
I don't know if this information is also handy, but the bootloader IS unlocked. I was able to do that about 6 months ago, when a friend of mine attempted unsuccesfully to put a custom ROM on it.

First time sorry for my poor English...
What ROMs do you use now and what do you want?
I've been dying for two days, but I've been updated (Stock 4.4.4 to Custom 8.1)! I also use SGP-521.
It was a nightmare, but it did. If I can, I will help you!

[Q] Kuno tablet

I recently received a Kuno Tablet. It has the same physical characteristics as the 10.1 except for the lack of a hdmi out. Its running android 2.3.1 with a 1.2ghz processor. I have been trying to find some way to root this tablet for a few days now and have had no luck whatsoever. As far as I know no one else has even attempted to root one of these. Help of any kind would be appreciated and I will do my best to answer any questions. I am considering trying petes root tools or gingerbreak but i have my doubts that this will work. I have tried to put the device into some sort of recovery mode but have had no luck so far with any of the button combinations I tried.
Hi xsurferx,
the Kuno really looks like the Archos 101... the chinese engineers are incredible.
Under the hood there's different hardware working.
The manufacturers website mentions a [email protected]
http://mykuno.com/kuno-specs.html
Due to this fact there's nothing in common with the way Archos created the firmware on the A101 and the way you could root this device.
You could try to find out how the firmware looks like on your Kuno... but i guess this is not the right place to discuss these things.
Anyway, good luck!

Progress
Any progress on trying to root the Kuno tablet? Superoneclick says that it roots it successfully but Superuser does not get installed. Is there at least a way to flash Gapps onto it? I can't even set up a gmail account unless I use the IMAP settings
super one clicks havent worked for me yet either however, i do work for the high school that i attend on their tablets and anything else they need done, through contact with the company that created the tablets ive learned that the tablet does not have a recovery mode and that the tablets actually have to be imaged like a computer would. So once i get my hands on an image i should be able to modify it to allow root access. If that fails im going to try rooting it through adb and installing superuser that way as well
what shcool has the funds to buy tablets like that?
So you just help them>?
lots of them
Many schools are going to one to one devices to try and help students learn and while they are expensive most of it is payed for by grants and other funds. I do anything they need from pc to mac and android. The tablets will be given out to freshman this coming semester and they want to see just how locked down these are and im assuming that rooting them will be the first step to unlocking them from the cirruculumloft software they are using. They want to see how to unlock them so they can prevent it in the future. Which is where i come in.
Status...
The kuno tablet has a recovery system that can only be accessed by flashing a new firmware to it, however, it is not possible to get this firmware without getting it from the company that made the tablet. So...in order to root the tablet you have to create a custom firmware from scratch for the tablet because the firmware on the tablet was designed in such a way that the android market can not run on it. The company removed the directories and other items the market needs to run. You can not connect the tablet through adb, nor can you install from SD or even access the SD card from inside the firmware the tablets are currently running. In order to root this tablet we would need to create a custom firmware and then flash it onto the tablet. Anyone interested in trying? Also, super one clicks will brick the device, I'm surprised yours still worked after that.
new discoveries
The market will run on the tablet, i was lied to on that one. The tablet connects through adb very easily and most commands work in adb. unfortunately you can not reboot into recovery or the boot loader through adb
unrevoked won't find my tablet. what do i do now?
this

I work for a company that will be selling these Kuno tablets to schools. A CurriculumLoft Employee told me these tablets are not approved by Google so that makes them not able to use the android market. I have found that these can use the Amazon App market.
Figured it out!!!
After working on this for the better part of 6 months i have finally achieved root and flashed a custom rom with CWM recovery installed. I found that the Kuno tablet is essentially the same as the Arnova 10 G2 tablet with the exception of hard drive size. Here is the link to the site and instructions i used to flash the rom. If any one has any questions let me know.

[Q] Xperia Z2 urgent flash help needed

Hello Fellows!
So after having my Xperia for 1 year I got kinda bored of it's design and wanted to flash and customize it.
I like customizing a lot and I never had problems ever since I flashed my first PlayStation Device.
But now I am hardly irritated about my smartphone. There is a great tutorial here, which would be amazingly helpful to me, if I knew more about the recent Android versions and the customization tool I want to use (since that's all I really want).
To state my problems accurately, I was looking for complete customization of the Android UI and came across here. Now, an app called Themer has been recommended for such a thing, but it requires flashing my phone in a way.
The first thing that irritated me, is the fact it's engine is taken from T-Mobile software (My Xperia is one, at least google states it downloading something from the Play Store Website ("Telekom Sony D6503"). I don't know if there is a connection, but my main problem is the flashing now. Recently the Lollipop Update came out, but I updated my phone just 2 days ago getting the 4.4.4 rev. (23.0.1.A.0.167). Also I don't really understand the CM10/11 thing or which I should apply in order to not mess up my phone. EDIT: Just reminded myself of the "Bootloader", I need to figure out if it's locked or unlocked...
Specifically I want to apply this theme:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2631573
Don't judge it please, I kinda like the minimalistic style.
What can I do to apply this theme correctly and which ROM would be useful?
Can I apply this theme whatsoever?
Thank you for your answers!
EDIT: I've been trying to ROOT my phone with phone with the instructions. I tried to to do it without unlocking the bootloader (since this is a valid option) and something happened, but at the same time didn't.
I tried to install the recovery and root it to gain superuser, but it didn't really work out, except my phone having a new Bootscreen ("powered by Android" after the Sony Xperia start up).
Where did I go wrong? My PC loads drivers for S1 /SOMC Flash when starting up my phone with VOL-/PowerButton, but I can't get into the phone's recovery mode... (I think it was TWRP)
I just don't understand the world anymore .__.
OK, hi m8, Xperias with Locked Bootloader (LB) don't use Theme Chooser. You can get it in Cyanogen Mod (CM) and for CM you need to unlock your Bootloader. As for rooting 4.4.4, you need to read this. Basically, you need to downgrade, root then flash a pre- rooted zip. Hope this helps m8. Good luck :good:

Need Root - Stock Kyocera, NOT BRICKED, no bootloader/recovery mode?

I have a brand new Boost Mobile, Kyocera Hydro Reach, which seems to be a nice little device for the price that would benefit greatly from root access/roms. I attempted to root it via the usual one click methods, with no luck. Kingo crashed the phone, Kingroot failed at like 80%, others didn't work as well. I figured since I wanted to get a little deeper into android development, now would be a good time to start. I was looking into maybe dumping the stock images and building a recovery and such. I tried to boot into recovery (button method) to see what the stock recovery was like, but it booted straight into the OS. Same for download mode. The only alternate mode I successfully booted into was safe mode. I tried to boot into both with ADB as well, but only got the OS again. I'm not sure if the BL is locked or not, and was going to unlock it (there's an option in dev options to allow BL unlocking) with ADB, but it just boots android so I'm not sure.
As stated in the title, this is, afaik, 100% stock, brand new in the packaging. The only time it's been used was during activation. I have QPST which I'm in the process of learning, and the phone has a snapdragon 210 I believe, so it should work. I was thinking maybe I could use it to flash custom images.
Any ideas? I have been rooted on every device since about 2011 or so, and not having my usual apps and such available is annoying me to no end, especially on a device that really needs it. With no stock images, how to I go about developing for this device?

URGENT!: i really need to do a reset to fix all of these issues.

Whoever can respond with an answer will be a godsend. S**t hit the fan so hard so quick. to give a rundown of whats happening. just recently returned from traveling abroad. during that time something happened. cant hardly remember. whatever happened. i can recall i knew i needed a rooted phone to fix it. (im pretty tech literate) so ive tried ping pong root. im running 6.0.1 marshmellow on my s6 edge G925A. ive learned a root is not possible on this version. but for 5.1.1 it is. however id prefer to stick to 6.0.1 so i kept digging. now that was over a course of 3 weeks with no access to a computer across seas. so i decided to take the time to learn to use odin to flash a rom since from what i read ive found a rooted 6.0.1 att rom. (I could care less about knox. past warranty etc.) its more important for me to have a functioning phone that i can have control over. but the issue was ads popping up system wide. random acts of terror on my phone. phone would randomly install apks/files. or force close every app suddenly. uninstall apps. NOTE: i havent side loaded any apks other then ping pong root from the xda thread. nor any other file that would seem to have possibly been tainted that i downloaded. whatever happened. thats the past. right now its gotten worse. ive decided to try to sit down and figure out odin to fix it. now yes i could do a factory reset and get on with my life. but i really want a rooted phone. and since ive got a backup and im already in the middle of it.. why not just root it. but that tar file is for 5.1.1. not 6.0.1. so im curious if thats the case im gonna just install a custom rom which would be way more open and user controlled then freaking AT&T's so called open interface of android. so im here to ask. is it possible to go from 6.0.1 stock marshmallow android and flash the Extreme Syndicate v3.1 Custom ROM for my phone for version 5.1.1 Lollipop android? if so can you provide a somewhat step by step if needed. ive read you would have to flash stock rooted 5.1.1 then flash the custom ROM. if thats true please point it out. I need this phone to be alive and well for my business while allowing me to make it mine. not a brick so im open to any advice to get this task done. xdadevelopers are a life saver to say the least. but right now im needing a big life save now. so anything helpful is needed ASAP! THANK YOU for reading and helping a needy soul out! heres a list of specs and short rundown so you dont have to sort through this life story lmao!
phone model and build at the moment:
Model: Samsung Galaxy S6 edge (SAMSUNG-SM-G925A) (Unrooted)
Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow)

Again. I want to know if i can flash Extreme Syndicate 5.1.1or any other custom ROM's you guys Rep for. so my phone so i can have control over my phone. if so please list steps as using odin and such im fairly new to. since im just now starting to learn android community. its been great. but hopefully i can get a little hands on instead of standing on the sidelines. anyways. Right here are a few things from my knowlegde before you try anything.
Ping pong root only works with some firmwares, to root your G925A it must have the exact firmware G925AUCU1AOCE which is 5.1.1. You can try it and do download data first, then turn on airplane mode then try to root. Chances are it will fail.
Extreme syndicate v3 is for lollipop firmware only, your current firmware is 6.0.1 so you will find it impossible to flash as the bootloader will have been locked on upgrade to marshmallow. (Im yet to find anybody successful in downgrading) and also the dev has stopped for this ROM.
AT&T lock down there firmwares so its very hard to find any firmwares other than the ones available over smart switch.
Overall i dont think there is any root available for G925A 6.0.1 nor will there ever be.
As your on 6.0.1 you wont be able to find or flash any custom ROM as they are all on 5.1.1 as root was available for this version and not for 6.0.1
Only thing you can really do is wipe data/cache from recovery and your ad problem will be fixed.

yea... i figured. didnt know if anyone had any ideas that they knew personally. the ads were on a so called system bloatware app. so just disabling and manually corrupting its files stop it from working. hence ads quit popping up. as for root. i agree. when i get a s7. gonna buy it unlocked so i dont have this issue. i dont understand why customizing a phone is such a sin..

I always get my phones unlocked, or on a network that can accept flashed stock from different networks. AT&T and tmobile are a pain in the backside. I agree if you can go for the international s7

Sony Z2 Horrid Device

The Sony Xperia Z2 tablet has got to be the most horrible device in android history to root or install a recovery on it. The process and the complexity of it is just horrible. You daren't ever make the slightest change to a rom or anything in twrp as it just screws everything up on this device. I can't count the amount of roms i've put on it just to totally trash the device and you have to start from scratch. Either you put a new rom on, it wipes the recovery, you have to piss about using flashtool to flash some other ftf on just to get into recovery, then you have to then flash another tft to get root, the list just goes on and on. I don't even know why sony mobile even bother offering the bootloader unlock option in the first place, it's an absolute nightmare. It's basically you can have root with the official stock firmware, if you want a custom rom spend the next 2 weeks trying to get supersu installed on it. The most horrible device I've ever come across.
Then sell it
Somehow I cannot share this view. Running Carbon ROM with Magisk without any issues. For a more than 4 years old tablet the Z2 stands its ground, I don't regret having bought it.
Just hoping that we'll get Pie...

I've tried Carbon and would love to use it but it just screws up the tablet after install and recovery gets wiped so you can't even go back to restore a back up. You then have to reflash using Emma then back into flashtool to reflash the tft to get recovery to work again because flashtool ends up reporting back that the current tft is not compatible with the device. It's a finicky device to root. It's got to be the worst out of all android devices. E.g my Samsung s9 had it rooted and flashed with a custom rom in around 5 mins. No matter what firmware is installed. Sony decided that after 23.1.A.575 or whatever rooting was not possible after that. Also every method on here telling you how to do it is different to each other and inconsistant. I tried 23.1.A.575 root for UK and it would not allow for twrp to be booted into. I had to use xperiafirm to download the Taiwanese version so I could get the batch script to allow recovery so holding down power on volume down would allow twrp to load. It's just a painstakingly horrible device to root to get something so simple. But yes your right probably best time to get rid and something different. Sorry for the rant it's just been a frustration for me.
Sorry to say so, but rcstar has a very good step by step description on how to install the ROM. I followed it to the point and have no issues whatsoever.
TWRP, Magisk and Substratum work, like everything else.
It's not a device which is easy to mess with, you are right. But it's doable.

I've followed so many without much success. I tried the solution by kulvertti to the letter and the tab was having non of it. I think the problem also is that a lot of the links are dead to the specific tft you need to download so getting the exact version is tricky. The only one that has worked for me is the Taiwanese rom then using the recovery script by danalec to get Marshmallow flashed which is what I'm running now. So I made a back up today and thought OK let me try carbon because I can get all the nice customization options like being able to choose a dark theme for the settings menu instead of piercing white. What is it with manufacturers wanna make every thing bright and painful on the eyes. Anyway downloaded gaps wiped system etc installed rom and once it loaded the system was all unstable and lost root and recovery. So I give up now and have to accept I can only have marshmallow on it.
Danalec has a very simple root method for Marshmallow in the general section. This is one of the best tablets out there by far. Build quality doesn't come close with other brands.
