[APP] GCam Tool - stops front camera mirroring, moves portrait photos automatically - Google Pixel 2 XL Themes, Apps, and Mods

GCam Tool's primary purpose was to move portrait mode burst photos from their own sub-folders to the main gallery, keeping whichever photos the user wants (background blurred or non-blurred) while discarding the rest. Since then, I have been getting mails from users who wanted the app to move not just portrait mode but even normal photos.
With GCam Tool 2.0, all photos (even panorama and photosphere) are moved automatically in the background. If you want to save portrait mode photos into a different folder, this must be the easiest way.
Another request I got was regarding the way Google Camera took selfies. Most OEM camera apps give you the option to save the front camera image just like you see in camera preview. Strangely Google Camera doesn't allow this and always saves the image flipped. With v2.0, GCam Tool can now detect front camera photos and prevent it from being flipped.
I must give the disclaimer that this is an experimental feature. Google doesn't provide any sort of API for developers to detect whether a photo was taken with front or back camera. I had to come up with my own method of detecting that. I tested on S8+, OnePlus 3 and Redmi Note 4 and it worked fine. If this feature fails on your phone, please let me know the device model as well as the Android version.
Please try the app and let me know your feedback. If you like it, please take a moment to rate and review on Play Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.gcamtool

Selfie picture is flipped to get right perspective, even xperia devices do this. The problem is that you shot something different from what you see in the display preview. You can easily adjust the picture with apps like snapseed or others.

had a tasker profile for that but tried your app. like it and upgraded to pro?

Very good app.. Upgraded to Pro but the app is crashing when i try to do batch move

Another Pixel 2 XL owner reported the same issue. I can't reproduce it on my S8+. Could you please write to [email protected]? I would like to figure out what's happening and fix it.

Unfortunately I couldn't figure it out yet. After moving photos, the app calls Mediascan service which should inform the OS about new images and as such it must appear in the camera slide to photo gallery. But somehow that is not working.

Working great thanks ?

Sent from my Google Pixel 2 XL using XDA Labs

Hey! I saw the flip prevention feature and bought pro immediately to try it out, sadly it didn't work and after I restarted my device the checkbox disappeared from the settings page. I'm using a Pixel 2 XL on 8.1 April update.
EDIT: There's no disappearing checkbox bug, that was just me.

It shouldn't affect if you have set the target folder to sync with Google Photos

I am assuming you are talking about gallery that you see when you slide to right inside Google Camera. Even though all files are moved correctly in the background, that gallery has some issue with refreshing thumbnails. The app even calls mediascan after moving files, which should have fixed the issue. But that gallery app still won't refresh.
Third party gallery apps do not seem to have this issue.

Google Pixel 2 modded camera app works on the V20! Looks AWESOME!

Has anyone tried the new Pixel 2 modded camera app on the V20? It looks AWESOME! Auto mode is much better now and the photos look much better thanks to the post processing effects. It works great on the V20 however there is no manual mode or wide angle. I also noticed there's less of a lag when taking photos compared to the stock camera app. This could be a game changer... someone should do a comparison video with the V20 + Google Pixel 2 camera app versus a 2017/2018 flagship.
Here's the link (the only version that actually works for the V20):

Both BSG and Arnova apks, only Arnova has a higher likelihood of crashing than BSG in my experience

In the app settings, you have to set the 'Config camera' to something other than 'No HDR+' and adjust the other settings too (but I can't seem to get the mix right with BSG). After you do that and force close the app, you should see when you open the app, at the top of the screen, a new button 'HDR+' set from auto to on and you're good to go, if you got the settings right. It's really a life changer, takes pictures so much better than the stock camera app, but you don't have the manual controls.
I seem to have gotten right a 'recipe' with Pixel 2XL, but I wanna try to get it right with N6P to compare it with the older version of Arnova's which works wonderfully.

Modded Google Camera with HDR+ on Nokia 8

Since there is no such thread here yet, I wanted to start discussion about using modded Google Camera from this thread on Nokia 8 (mostly what's best configuration and version).
What doesn't work:
- Slow Motion in 6.1.x
- HDR+ in 6.1.x when number of shots is set higher than 20
What works:
- HDR+ (including auto HDR with ZSL on both front and rear cameras)
- Night Sight (only on 6.1.x ports and higher)
- Portrait mode on both front and rear cameras (replaces lens blur mode from older versions of Google Camera)
- Motion Pictures (only on Oreo and higher and only with rear camera set to 16:9 ratio and flash disabled)
- Slow Motion video recording (only on 5.x GCam, broken again on 6.1.x ports)
- Spherical photos
- Panorama
AR Playground (only with 6.1.x ports, you must also install ARCore first)
Recommended for Pie (based on GCam 6.1.x): MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova-based_v.1.2_TlnNeun.apk
Recommended for Oreo (based on GCam 5.x): GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.apk
Site with all APKs listed: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
I just downloaded the version on Apotide and I don't really see anything outstanding from the first look.
What are the main benefits of Google Camera vs stock Nokia?
Should I download a different version of Google Camera from somewhere?
Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
Main benefit is better HDR algorithm and thus better photos in low light conditions. I also think that auto focus in Google Camera works better (it's easier to get focus on the point you want and it stays there until you take a photo) or something else that makes photos from Google Camera less blurry than ones from Nokia Camera.
As for the versions - since they are mostly made for OnePlus, some version work better, some worse with other smartphones as they contain modifications for specific models.
I really miss the HDR from Nokia / Microsoft Lumia.. The pictures were always amazing compared to my wife's iPhone.
Will give Google camera a proper test and see how it goes.

I finally got Oreo update and those colorful lines (artifacts) are gone, so it seems to be a bug on Nougat only.
Yes I noticed the colour artifacts are gone too. I have the BSC and Arnova apps both installed. I use the BSC app with high parameters for still or more detailed shots and the Arnova is my quicklaunch camera, set to 8mp with Motion Photos enabled and HDR parameters set to default. I also turn camera.faces and camera.shot_tracking on in developer settings.

Pixels don't have a card slot, which is why the app has no option written into it to save to SD card.
Ah good point.
This is frustrating for me but I will test the app a bit more to see if the image quality makes up for this.

You do have 64GB or 128GB internal to play with, so at the very least you could just occasionally open Google's FilesGo app and tick the 'move to SD' option, or use Google Photos' delete from device option if you're happy to have them in the cloud.
Since installing the G camera apk both stock and G camera are taking too long to open and constantly hanging and making the phone unresponsive so I have unistalled it for now.
I'll try one of the other versions later.
Google Camera producing much better detailed photos compared to Nokia camera app. For sure, the images have more noise, less sharpness and bigger filesize. But at least it has more details, more smoothness and less jaggy pixels.
When I need better images, I use my 808PV.
Using GCam 5.1 Arnova v1.0 on Nokia Oreo.
Small comparison I made. There's a big difference in favor of the Google camera.
Been using it from day 1, Back camera indeed captures better photos compared to stock app
For those who wish to be participated in Google camera mod

best camera app for redmi note 4

I've tried many roms with many camera apps but couldn't find one in which, portrait mode, hdr+ and slow motion(however slow motion isn't important for me at all) are working.
The best app that I found was the stock crdroid camera but neither does it have portrait mode plus it's hdr is very slow.
Can someone please provide me the best app that just works and has the features i mentioned above.

I think that your experience with the gcam mods might be determined by the camera sensor on your phone. I have a Samsung sensor, and most of the mods work reasonably well (sometimes you have to tweak the settings). I have stayed with Arnova8G2 v6. It does FC sometimes, but it mostly good. The settings can be tweaked for improvements over default settings ("Auto"), but not all of them work well. If you choose very high resolution HDR settings, the shutter will be very slow - but the picture will be very good. I don't really use the portrait mode, so I can't comment on that. Before Arnova8G2, I used Cstark27 mods - and they were excellent too. But I think Arnova has the edge.
In any case, you can have a look at this repository of gcam mods.

I don't know of a straightforward way of getting that information. You will need to search the forum for that.
The method that I use is not straightforward. It depends on initd functionality, and this is not generally available in ROMs. Basically, I run dmesg from an initd script, and redirect the output to a file. I then parse the file and look for any of these;
1. "ofilm_s5k3l8" (sensor=Samsung)
2. "ofilm_imx258" (sensor=Sony)
3. "qtech_ov13855" (sensor=Omnivision)
You can of course run dmesg at any time from a root terminal. However, you need to capture the output early enough (i.e., during the bootup process) or the values you are looking for would be long gone.
PS: I don't know much about Kernel Adiutor - but it may be that it can help you to run the command to capture the necessary information, even without initd functionality. Maybe someone else can speak to that.

In these apps when you take a picture from the front camera, it is saved as mirrored as compared to the camera preview screen when you're positioning tot take the picture (for e.g a face looking at the left comes as right or vice versa). There is an option in the miui camera settings to disable this and also on most other camera apps. I want to disable this here too.

Google Portrait Mode on Galaxy S6 and S6edge (APK Android*7.0)

There are a few contenders for best smartphone camera of 2017, and many would argue that the Google Pixel 2 & 2 XL were the best mobile shooters. That's thanks in large part to the phone's exceptional combination of camera hardware with Google's prowess in image processing software as seen by their famous HDR+ technology.*
Ports of Google Camera with the HDR+ technology have been shown to dramatically improve the picture quality of budget phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and flagship phones like the Essential Phone. The Pixel 2 camera experience is largely an iterative improvement over the first generation Pixel, though it adds some polish with features such as Motion Photos, Face Retouching, and lastly Portrait Mode.{From xda developers}
Both front and back camera portrait mode works.
There are tons of apps out and i'm not the Developer of this app, i just found out this app and which one supports the best on the phone and thought maybe i should share this link*below.*
sometimes the camera app crashes because of incorrect settings so ill put my settings which works for me*best.*
BEST SETTINGS
GO TO CAMERA SETTINGS>>
Tuning back cam>>Pixel XL
Tuning front cam>>Nexus 5X
Back cam photo resolution>>6.0 MP
Front cam photo resolution>>5.0 MP
Advance>>HDR+parameter>>very low
config camera HDR+>>Pixel 2017
Lens blur MP>>12 MPUsing the app in as much lower parameter of settings is always better and your app will work smoothly ( in lower settings)
Download*: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mnMyFHRXhc5eWFrBMtlMyn__YulO20Z6/view?usp=sharing
IMPORTANT: It is important to clear the Ram Before, every time you open the app because the app needs lots of memory
If app crashes then Clear Data Force Stop then open again then Update Settings
OTHER APPS (Root user only): HIGHLY RECOMMEND
*These app force Stop the unwanted background apps which are running in background also clears the phone memory to significant Max limit.
1.Root Booster: "Use In Speed Boost mode" Link:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N9tw9wLjeUhBPeFOWPkbZL8d7ehSlI5W/view?usp=drivesdk
2. Speed Up Swap:"Use In Very High" Link:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YnJ_Wku5NU2xcqzTihYfGnQuWpi59MH0/view?usp=drivesdk
using this app drastically increased the performance of the Google Camera app
And Also I'm using Noble Nought S8 port 5.1 AlexisXda (This Rom allows to change the screen resolution, i use the app in 1280x720 resolution uses less memory whereas the default s6 resolution is 1440x2560 uses lots of memory)
take that for whatever its worth.
Although i think it should work just fine on any rom because its the hardware which matters
Gonna try it thank you...[emoji4]

Clear Data and force Stop app then open again
Open camera app>>Click on top left corner icon>>click Settings:good:
It is important to clear the Ram before, every time you open the app because the app needs lots of memory

I agree, the default settings are very noisy. Even the stock camera takes much sharper image in low or medium light. Would like to know the best settings for S6.
This camera is from here

Here is my version of Google Camera based on BSG's original port. Although I aimed to get it working only on Galaxy S7 Exynos, there are reports that it is working on other devices like S7 Snapdragon, S8, Note 8 etc... Working list on S7...

Night Sight is INSANE. Crappy kitchen incoming.
Wow. This is crazy. It pulls so much light.
I'm getting excellent results with the new camera app and night sight too. Only issue I seem to have on my 2XL is that the new camera app crashes after I take a pic with it..the picture is saved but I have to open the camera app again.

Same here, it'll be fixed. It's not the official release.
Wow! I really wasn't expecting this much of a difference.
This is ****ing nuts.
Too bad is that there are now multiple modded camera apps that have different features (this one has night sight, the other has moving autofocus, ...). It would be nice if they merge all the modded camera apps.

no crash on my 2XL
i can take many pictures in all mod without crash, same as the original app
Also it doesn't have super zoom that the stock camera has.
Night shot
Amazing what this night shot can do.
It really works, I tried it on pixel 2 xl.
Mind blowing feature

See the pictures
Super Res Zoom seems to be worse though (compared to the leaked P3 app a few weeks ago - maybe last week dunno)
I guess it works better on farther images with more background. I took a night shot in a dark room and compared to no flash it was a huge improvement. However, when I used the flash in the same room the picture with the flash it came out better than the night shot.
