Resolution size issues with certain apps - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

With mate 10 lite's resolution being 1080x2160 (18:9) instead of the traditional 1080x1920 (16:9), I find that some apps (particularly clash of clans) are too blurry with standard settings applied. For some apps the phone offers the "full screen display" option, which is basically only for apps in vertical position. Due to clash of clans being displayed in portrait mode, it's really blurry up until the moment I change the DPI settings under developer options. Standard is 432 and I change it to 502. But everything becomes pretty small on the phone at that point and after the reboot, it will jump back to 432 dp. Does anyone have another solution for this non-traditional resolution size?

You could try using the adb commands in this post. I used to use it to force the resolution I wanted on my Z5premium
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/general/root-4k-screen-resolution-t3631413
I have also noticed like you that after a restart the changes in developer options reset to default. It's pretty annoying and I can't find the any setting in build.prop to try make it permanent. It's not in the list as far as I can see.

[Q] Screen Resolution

I have a Dell Streak 5, but I bought a Galaxy S II last night. I realize the screen is a bit smaller, but I find the resolution or density extremely poor...I like a lot more on my screen, and it seems everything is too large. It's a show stopper for me. Is there anything I can do to change this before I return back to the Streak?
There isn't really a viable software fix for this, so just return the phone and get a Galaxy Note (1280 x 720 at 280 something PPI, 5.3inch screen).
1. Get your device rooted
2. Download "LCD Resolution" from Market.
The lower the number, the higher the resolution.
NOTE: Apps may not be fully optimized for this kind of resolution such as Phone, where the keypad is smaller than the screen. Market works with this DPI modification.
Also click on "Always Set On Boot" in the app so that it would automatically adjust your desired Density at boot.

How to "hacQ" the Nexus Q so portrait apps work on a landscape-only screen

Hi,
Several apps I have tried (maybe ~10% of them) only have portrait mode. This is a problem if you have a TV you can't rotate.
I wonder if anyone has any ideas of how to write, say, a background service that detects if it's displaying in portrait mode, and then shrinks the screen view and flips it 90degrees (so essentially you have a portrait screen that is now the correct way up, with black screen on either side). You can't tell it to display in true landscape because that's hard-coded into the app, so it is better to just rotate the portrait display. However this is a hard thing to do as the screen display is very low-level... but does anyone have any ideas of how to accomplish that?
I've done some searching, but of course Android has never really faced this problem before. Android has either been on a rotatable mobile device, or it's been on a GoogleTV where everything is landscape...
If so, that would open up more apps for Q-compatibility...

[Q] Basic info/advice for Easy DPI Changer app

Hi - Easy DPI Changer app... Good rating in Android store, very few reports of it bricking phones, but I have a very important, but basic question:
Is it possible to set the resolution DPI too high or too low, making the phone unusable?
For example, if I set the DPI to 1 might the phone become impossible to use because the buttons appear off the screen?
Supposing I set it to 1000? Might the phone crash and boot loop before being able to set it back to a safe DPI?
I'm not looking to set crazy DPIs and brick my phone, but I just don't know what sensible DPIs are!
Any thoughts appreciated, Ta!

Tronsmart MXIII Plus 316k4 aspect ratio in portrait mode issue

I have device (RSH A400, not Tronsmart) which I loaded with Tronsmart 316k4 firmware. Almost everything works like it should with one exception - portrait oriented application.
When I try to run portrait oriented application (without any support for landscape) on this firmware, if I disallow application to change resolution from landscape to portrait, it runs in landscape with screen stretched to fill whole 1920x1080 and looks very bad and is literally unusable.
I have done some investigations (switching beetween different firmwares released in different times) and i now know that it is not portrait / landscape issue but aspect ratio issue. On older firmwares (as well on my factory firmware) if application needs to run in portrait mode (no alternative for landscape mode) but mode is locked to landscape and not changable, the device maintain proper aspect ratio by itself (screen height is set to 1080, width calculated and set to about 607.5, screen centered). It looks like app is working in portrait mode without rotating screen but in fact it is working in landscape with maintained aspect ratio.
I need to fix this. I gave 316k4 as example because it is quite popular firmware, but I had the same behaviour on Probox2 EX and few other, newer firmwares.
It can be some bad setting on kernel level, or something needs to be modified in build.prop or any other config file. I don't see any suspects in build.prop (checked the differences) so the change must be done somewhere else or this behaviour is nonfixable at all. I can't use portrait mode because screen is rotated for 90 degrees then and my monitor doesn't have pivot and rotating screen.
Do you guys know what to change in device configuration to fix this?

Question LTPO 2.0 not working properly?

So, I've tested this phone for a while now and saw that something was up with the refresh rate of the display. I use Nova Launcher and I could tell that it wasn't as smooth as their own launcher, or the system settings for example. In developer options I turned on the "show refresh rate" toggle and the values were weird, to say the least. When it is operating at 120Hz and everything is smooth, it shows the number 10, but when I go to Nova Launcher, or Reddit Sync for example it shows 60. All of this only happens on the Auto mode, but that is the point of the LTPO Display, so it can work its magic. So as it seems the software doesn't show correctly when its running in 120Hz mode. Also, I would very much like to have Apps that I deem worthy run in 120Hz mode too, not just the ones it chooses by itself.
Strange. My phone is working like it should. Shows 10 fps when the screen is not moving. Shows 120fps as I start moving. I also tested YouTube and videos show the correct fps. 30 fps and 60 fps depending on the video.

Mines exactly the same
well Imma guess that it's something related to me importing my old backup, cause that messed up the AOD too (doesn't matter what I do, it won't turn on)

Is there any app that can adjust this per app? I also use some apps that only run at 60hz

In principle, the level of brightness that you have on influences, manual brightness, I think that from 80-85% brightness it goes from 5 to 1 in refresh rate. I put a capture.
Definitely to do with brightness
At lowest brightness on auto refresh rate, it seems to never drop below 120hz except in certain apps like maps where it'll go to 60hz.
But if I put brightness at about 30%, it can drop to 10hz.
So I wonder what's more battery efficient 0% brightness at 120hz or 30% brightness at 10hz
When in a dark environment, and forced into the 120Hz mode, the LTPO panel’s power consumption isn’t all that different from an LTPS panel ~180mW power penalty that is present at all times, even on a black static screen, because of 120 Hz. That penalty comes from the measured power, with 640 mW and 465 mW in the respective 120 and 60Hz modes. Under a brighter ambient conditions, the panel showcases its technology advantages, and power consumption drops drastically. In the 120Hz mode but with the minimum refresh rate now in the regular '48 Hz' setting, the power figure drops from 640mW to 428mW, which is a massive 220mW drop.

The phone operating under dark conditions seems to disable the 'seamless' variable refresh rate display, that allows the phone to go into lower frequency modes, but not in all circumstances

When it comes to the difference in the battery runtimes between running the phone in a dark or a bright environment, there are somewhat small difference. In the 60Hz maximum refresh mode, VRR/LFD gains the phone an additional 4% of battery life. In the 120Hz mode, we see a larger 8.5% jump in runtime.

I am having this issue also. I get only 60Hz with Nova but using default launcher I get 120Hz and it is adaptive.
So far I setting entire device at 120Hz but would prefer if there was option to enable adaptive working with Nova

The problem is not that the GT2 PRO does not have an option to enable adaptive refresh rate with Nova, the problem is that Nova is not fully optimized with Android 12.

It seems to be incorrect. In nova Discord, Administrator said Nova work well with LTPO 2.0 screen. And as far as I can see, all launcher I tested don't work with LTPO on realme GT 2 pro except default launcher...
Use set edit and put peak_refresh rate to 1 Also i added user_refresh rate to 1 and min_refresh rate to 1. Now is working 120 & variable rate in all app.

How? Can you explain a bit more about that?
Look here, marked with red in set edit app. Ignore my mistake on cameră, i was in hurry

It seem ok after reboot ! I don't know how you find this but good work. Thank you.
Edit : after few minutes nova go back to 60htz. System setting "peaking_refresh_rate" automatically go back to 60
Set your screen to 120 (High) in settings, and never change )
Will this just force 120hz or working LTPO for 3rd party apps?
Working ltpo, If You want only 120 enter same settings by adb.
Ok but what's exactly the point of your settings?
If I set 120hz always in settings, LTPO will also work and go down to 60-30-10hz if not touching the display
Lol, this is for apps with no 120hz support like camera, some browsers, other launchers, even some games
