Developer Mode on Acer Chromebook 14 CB3-431 (Edgar) - Chromebooks

Pulling what little hair I have left out here.
Trying to get into developer mode on my new chromebook.
Used to have HP14 which was no problem.
Have tried esc-refresh-power
esc-power
refresh-power
esc-refresh (you never know!!!!!!)
All I get is either a black screen or a normal boot.
Has anything happened with recent updates to change developer mode?
Thanks in advance

Still can't get into developer mode. Anybody got any ideas?

I've put two Edgars into developer mode, so it's definitely possible. Try this:

Thanks for that.
Was able to get into the startup screen once but had to cancel was needed to go out.
Can't get in again now. Keep getting a black screen. Ah well.

Have you been able to activate the full debugging features? Whenever I go to enable them it says that it couldn't be fully enabled and I get a red X. I have access to ADB and Fastboot commands so developer options is on, but no root access.

I was able to do so, and eventually installed GalliumOS on my EDGAR, after flashing the Legacy BIOS from MrChromebox. So it's definitely possible. Sorry, I can't help more as no longer have this chromebook.

Enable USB Debugging from Computer

It is possible to enable USB debug from computer? I need to delete some file from the internal memory that causes the problem. I can't connect through adb at all.
I'm trying to fix my secondary phone (Garminfone) that that loads into desktop, but force close launcher and everything else. The only thing that I can do is connect to the computer for file sharing with the phone.
Thank you in advance.
I'm in a bit of a conundrum, myself...
I am attempting to do this, too, but for a totally different reason.
I am a VZW agent trying to extract contacts for a customer from a Moto. RAZR with a completely non-functional touch screen (no display, no function). Phone boots up fine, no sweat. Stock ROM, no backup :crying:, all of the typical means of transfer have been exhausted.
More or less, the only chance I have at succeeding is to either:
Enable USB debugging through some kind of shortcut or trick, or
Somehow, without USB debugging, figure out the user name for the customer's G-mail account (he has two, and cannot remember/doesn't use the one with all his contacts...)
Wouldn't be surprised if it's simply not possible.... but maybe somebody with a bit more knowledge can let us know! :good:
Edit: Hmm, not possible to run adb from the bootloader, but you can run Fastboot commands. None of those seem to be of use for these purposes though...
as mentioned by PhantasmRezound, It's not possible, However. adb is enabled in most recoveries. Also If the device is unlocked ( and you can flash custom recoveries ) in any way you can flash a custom recovery, back up the boot img. pull that off the device or simply put the sdcard in your computer with unpack that, edit the init.rc to start adb. and reflash it with fastboot not quiet what your after but might do the trick.
or
With the non functioning touch screen issue, If the device acts as a usb host, plug a mouse in and away you go
There's always a way.
Thanks for the input...
I appreciate the feedback, but the way I read it... it's either not going to help in this situation, or it's too technical for a noob such as myself and I'm in over my head

Customer's phone is completely stock. Hope I'm following along correctly, but I don't think this is possible without having something like ClockworkMod and pre-existing root access?

Never really tried this... but, I suspect, this won't work... not only does the touch screen not work, but the display is black.
I suppose it could be possible in combination with HDMI-out... but since the HDMI has never been set to "mirroring," I cannot simply plug it in and go (the best and only result I've gotten in this case is the red "M" logo on the screen...)
I would have given up on this hours ago, but it really bothers me when I can't figure out how to do something that appears to be so fundamental and simple...
Thanks for the inputs :good:

Well, I was thinking about this, and I think you can do adb in a stock recovery, should be able to create a backup image with the right software. It all gets a little hazy and wolly on techinical details, so I'm afraid I can't help anyone there.

And you're a noob , I fully understand that my casual, off the cuff, do a,b,c etc reply assumes a lot of technical knowledge, If it's not your phone man, don't stress it too much ..... Just hand it back to them look blankly into the middle distance while shaking your head.....use the following phrase " Nah man you've F*ed this up good, did you not sync it up with your google account at anytime "
Sorry man, I'm drunk, probably shouldn't be at this keyboard now

Unfortunately, Garminfone is a piece of garbage, lol. There's no custom recovery for it. There is nothing I can do now, I guess. I can't get into fastboot or anything because every time I try adb or fastboot it would not recognize the device.

If nothing else, you can do a Factory Reset. You'll lose all data but it will be running again.
Make sure the phone is charged up since this will take a while.
With the phone off, hold down left on the d-pad as you power it on. It will show "Wipe User Data" and then you can let go of the buttons. Just leave it for an hour or so, it will go about wiping and restoring system files from it's own recovery partition.
Also, random Garminfone blog with interesting entries to read while waiting on your phone lol. The person started to develop a port for CWM:
http://mygarminfone.blogspot.com/
PhantasmRezound, I've done tons of wipes but no luck and I'm familiar with the website you posted. Everytime I wipe, I get force process com.android.setupwizard stopped unexpectedly on the phone.
@wolftou
Ok.... A couple more tricks to try for your specific device and then I'm all out of ideas plus it's kinda getting away the original question/topic
1 Android Safe Mode:
Android does have a safemode, exactly the same idea as windows safemode, only needed apps are loaded. This might let you remove the troublesome app.
How to get into it on your device? I have no idea and from my limted research ( google as always ), it appears to vary by manufacturer and probably device. I have booted my tablet into it a couple of times by accident but never really stopped to figure out how, that's not important anyway Just I can confirm this mode exists ( In some androids at least ).
2 Flashing an alternative rom:
Have you tried flashing a different rom? I'm not sure of your model number so I don't whether this is relevant to you but have a look at this thread it looks like you can trigger an update using a sdcard swap trick....
I'm thinking about buying one myself now... just to see what's possible with them, fortunately ( for my wallet at least ) they are not available in the UK and I've got plenty of things to fill my Android addiction for now
all answer not similliar the question

My lenovo vibe s1 is showing black screen
I tried rooting my phone by the steps given by your site and now my phone is showing black screen. i tried pressing volume buttons and power button still it is not working. so when i am connecting my phone to computer it gets connected for 1 min and disconnects and again connects after 1 min. so is there any possible way that i can send my phone to USB debugging through computer.

Looks like you are trying to root?
Not sure what you are using currently but use http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/11872-droid-razr-utility-190-windows-mac-linux-all-in-one/
Make sure debugging is turned on and you are not set to storage mode when connected to PC.

Did you enable USB Debugging? Did you see the prompt to accept the RSA key on the phone when you plug it in? Often time on LGs it pops up behind the screen that shows up to select MTP/PTP/Charging modes and it's easy to miss it. Sometimes you have to toggle through all the modes to get it to pop up. Thinking about it now...I know a lot of LGs for VZW need to be in...Internet Tethering mode? or whatever it is they call it, for root stuff to work, so might have something to do with that mode loading the correct drivers for adb.

I just can't seem to find a TWRP or CWM recovery for this device. It's evidently been neglected. I haven't found anything yet on flashing cyanogen (or anything else) on it, which is what I really want to do.

Stuck in an endless bootloop

A few days ago my watch restarted on it's own and never got past the startup..which isn't that unusual, it'd happened a few times. No big deal just reset it with the button on the back. I tried that and again an endless loop. I tried searching for any help in this situation and the only lead I found was to reset and power it down through the boot menu and let it sit for a few minutes...but didn't matter. I've wiped and reset from the boot menu, hoping it might do something to get it past the startup, but no luck yet. I didn't open up the developer options and unlock anything...so I don't believe I could try anything from the computer right? Is there any other recourse to take or am I completely hosed?

You don't need developer options to do "fun" things from the boot menu. Just an unlocked bootloader.
I have a TWRP backup somewhere, so if you have a borked system, you can always flash (or better yet, boot) TWRP (make a backup of your broken), push the backup file folder to your watch (without overwriting the broken backup), and then restore mine.
Last thing to do is a factory reset to clean up any left over garbage. Hope this helps.
But isn't Developer Options necessary to allow that? It lets you turn on ADB Debugging which would then let you get on the computer and unlock the bootloader?
Or is there an alternate way to go about things...can I unlock the bootloader from the boot menu? I've only rooted a couple phones, with a lot of careful reading and reviewing of these forums...I'm not very knowledgeable.

Fastboot is independent of ADB, so you can unlock the bootloader from the boot menu. That is the way to unlock bootloader 90+% of the time.
Just need to issue these commands (like you would ADB) :
fastboot devices
fastboot oem unlock
...and then complete the on-screen (watch) confirmation. Hope this helps.

All right, my new problem is that the computer doesn't recognize the watch. When I plug it in it only appears as an unknown device and there's an error about the device having malfunctioned. Trying to install drivers despite the error leads nowhere, Windows says that the drivers present on the computer are up-to-date. So with it being an unknown device, I can't communicate with the watch from the command prompt.
Remove the drivers from Device Manager (check delete driver), connect your device again to the computer then reinstall the drivers.

No luck, I'd tried that a couple times before...just no progress, still sees it as an unknown device and trying to force install the drivers does nothing. It says the existing drivers are up to date.
I'm getting more and more discouraged. I can't seem to make any progress. I'm looking into sending it away for repair even though, of course, it's about two months out of the warranty.
You are not removing the drivers correctly, make sure that you have this option checked and try again:

Anything more I should be doing? Everything mentioning Android or ADB is removed. I'd never plugged the watch in before and installed drivers, so there's nothing from the watch to delete. But still the same thing, Windows only sees it as a Unknwon Device under USB controllers and sees no need to update drivers when I try, since it doesn't seem to see it as a watch or Android device of any sort.
Are you sure that you have installed the correct drivers? What is the hardware id?

I think so? I'm far from an expert but I've messed with a handful of phones and tablets in the last five years and never had issues with drivers I didn't sort out fairly easily. I downloaded the official Google USB driver, I tried the LG Watch Tool which installs the Universal ADB driver. The LG Watch then finds no devices.
I'm a bit ignorant, what hardware ID do you refer to? Of the driver?
Of the device.
Here is a guide:
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-find-unknown-device-drivers-by-their-vendor-device-id/
Can you post some screenshots from device manager?

Device Manager wasn't much help for finding the IDs, but I tried using USBDeview and it's reporting something as Android Bootloader Interface, which I'll have to assume is the watch. The vendor ID is 18D1 and the product ID is 4EE0. And here is a screen cap of the entry in the Device Manager that I've been seeing. If there's anything more specific in the device's properties that could be insightful, let me know.
Your device is seen as an unknown device. My only advice is to try on another PC your last working drivers and maybe it will work.

Help: My son has pattern locked the device and usb debugged is off

Ok, so I got my son a drone for Christmas and gave him my old Z2. I upgraded to an official Marshmallow ROM as the drone app required android 6.
All of this worked really well, until my son decided to put in a pattern unlock code so complicated that he forgot it about 5 mins later.
Things I've tried:
1. Xperia Companion - won't let me do anything as says device is locked and usb debugging is off.
2. Getting into boot mode to erase the phone - I can't for the life of me figure out the key combination to do this when the phone is off. Feel like I've tried almost every possible combination.
I'm very reluctant to just give up on the device, but it does seem as though there's not that much else I can do. ADB doesn't work as USB debugging is not enabled and I can't enable it as I can't get into the phone!
Any ideas? I don't care if I have to erase everything and start again by the way.
Thanks in advance.
Get the Sony flashtool from here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Find some tutorials on how to use it, then get the latest firmware for the z2 (it ends with .291), flash it with the (user data) option ticked so it would delete user data including the pattern, it might trip FRP but that's no biggie.
I'm typing most of this from memory btw, so the specifics might be wrong, but this is the way to go in your case.
Hope you get it working soon!

Would USB debugging not have to be enabled for the flashtool to work? I'm not even sure it has adb access at this stage (i.e I don't think "adb devices" reports any devices connected).
Thank you so, so much for taking the time to reply. Even if it doesn't work out, I appreciate the response.
Fingers crossed, and I'll report back here
