Phone Info / Radio Menu sections accessible on my Sprint V30+ US LG-LS998 - non root - LG V30 Questions & Answers

So a little background on why I'm posting this. I have owned a G4 G5 G6 and V20, all on Sprint, and none of these devices can ever access the Phone Info section or "Radio Info" section as it's referred to on the Hidden Settings shortcutter App. I believe Sprint or LG removes access to this area on all LG devices. On all of the ones I've owned I can try and access the section but only catch a brief glimpse of it when I try to access using a shortcut app. It is always immediately covered by the same message every time which is: Note This application does not work on this device.
Now I just activated a V30+ a couple weeks ago which I received through Sprint's normal telesales channel and on this device I can get to and modify most fields in the section. I haven't seen other people posting about this so maybe it's standard for everyone with the LS998 Sprint variant and no one really cares or just doesn't have anything to say about it. If thats the case, my apologies for wasting everyones time with an unnecessary post .
If my access to this area is a one off situation and could help lead any developers or more avid tinkerers to any discoveries I'd be happy to test out some things together with anyone with more experience than myself. I've been holding off on attempting to unlock the bootloader and haven't done any PRL updates or resets just in case this access is worthwhile as I've been worried something is going to update and take away my ability to get into the section.
I've included some screenshots. I've cropped them to try and remove some of the more personal data but I think all the relevant sections are covered.
*** Below are some questions and thoughts I've had. I hiding the section it to keep things less cluttered for those that are just reading up but dont have any experience or opinion on the settings/functionality etc***
If everyone can already get to this section, have you changed your bands or modified any of the settings and what results did you see?? I've been tempted to switch up some settings and run some tests but I'm being kinda chicken about changing anything because I can't find any info on people using this menu to do anything except screw up their coverage. A few example seems to be people on different earlier LG models that select USA but live outside the US and then cant get it back to their countries settings.
Here is a list of things I would like to examine more, or try out in these menus. Maybe some of you have already done such or have the same questions. Any feedback would be cool on any of these things or even warnings or endorsements. I would love to learn a bit more about this area and its possibilities.
Under the "Set Preffered Network Type" option I would like to change the current setting of LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL) to one of the other options and see what happens. I believe this area is relatively safe and can be switched back to the original setting easily. I'd like to switch to Global Auto Mode, Unknown Mode, GSM Auto mode and LTE Only Mode and run some speed tests and see what towers its connecting to in each.
There are four toggle switches, one of which is grayed out. This is the Video Calling Provisioned Switch. Curious if this would possibly become accessible in another mode, or if there was something i could change in a database editor that would allow me to switch this to "on".
The only setting I did change was the one DNS Check. It was originally set to disallowed and I switched it to allowed. I dont really know what changes or abilities this added or took away and have not seen any difference since doing so.
The SMSC when Refreshed will give me an 11 digit number in "" followed by a 3 digit number. It begins with +1 giving it the appearance of a phone number. I believe this has to do with SMS provisioning but am unsure and have not modified the info here.
One part I am very curious about is a grayed out button labeled OEM-specific info/Settings. I have searched like crazy just to try and find some info on whats behind that button and got nada.
In the additional menu section (the three dots) I have an option to Select Radio Band. When Pressed it takes me to a menu which sats "set GSM/UMTS band". This is the area I have found little about other than what I mentioned earlier about people getting locked out of their country settings. I have not touched this setting.
The IMS service Status of my device seems to not populate correctly as I'm listed as not registered or unavailable for all sections as seen in the picture attached. I could swear that a week ago I was showing "registered" but if so thats no longer the case.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Do you mean the ones within thd expanded part of the phone info section? If so, I've checked those out and they are blank. Screenshots attached.

So enough people have seen this post now that someone with a V30+ should be able to confirm whether or not others can get to these settings.
Anyone?

There is several other threads about this already. I found them while trying to find a way to get more ?? bands working on my India based phone. Nothing new i don't think and none of it actually helped, for me at least. There is a dialer code for it but i can't remember it.

I'd like to hear what you tried out and see what changed and what stuck and what didn't. . Maybe we can get your phone working better here in the states if we team up on the problem... I know my avatar shows I'm a junior member but that's because I don't really post often, but I do plenty of reading and tinkering myself and I have been in the Telecom business for about 15 years. I'm not an expert or making any guarantees but I certainly don't mind helping out a fellow member here if I can.
Do you have your MSL code? I have mine so if you have yours maybe we can take a look at how my phone is provisioned in the ##data# menu and get your bands setup the same way since mine should already be configured to the proper bands for the U.S. Between modifying that area and making some changes in the Radio info section that could do the trick for you. Let me know if you'd like to work on it and we could PM or you could reply with a run down of what you've tried and how you're setup now and we could go from there.
Cheers.

Ok so that dialer code doesn't trigger anythibg on my model. I also tried replacing 930 with 998 and tried replacing the *# and #* with just ## and no luck. But no worries.
I'm thinking you may need to change your settings in two menus in order for the new settings to work together. If you go into your Data menu (##data# or maybe *#data#* on your model) and update the information there to match the ones I am attaching in my screenshots and then go into the Radio Info menu and select a similar setup to how my device is provisioned you may see some success.
Thoughts?

You would need your MSL code in order to change the settings in the ##data settings....

Where do i get msl code?
Neither of the data dialer codes are working for me.

Oh those settings are only for cdma phone?

There are a bunch of tips and tricks to find your MSL code posted throughout the boards, but I have only ever got mine from the carrier. If you call customer service you can usually talk them into giving it to you, though their policy on this is to not give it out unless your phone is fully paid for / out of contract. If you tell them you are working with a tech in a store and need it for provisioning they will normally give it to you.

Go to phone dialer and type *#*#4636#*#*
Should take you to a special menu. Click the top selection should be phone info.
Select band as in attached image.
Also go into settings where you change apn and make sure APN info looks like attached files. Then goto network operators and search for.. Try one of the at&t ones.
This should work

[Q] Using phone abroad, can't connect to data network

Hi everyone, I've read quite a few discussions on here but this is my first post.
I've recently moved to Sweden from the US with my sprint lg g3. Before I moved, sprint told me that my plan covers me to use voice and data for free, but only with a specific carrier. They said that it's already taken care of and I shouldn't need to do anything when I get there.
That was one week ago. I've been in Sweden for a week and every day of that week I've spent around an hour on the phone with sprint trying to get my phone to connect to the data network. I get voice just fine, but, from what I understand, the phone is wanting to connect to a different carrier for data and he doesn't know how to force it to connect to the right one.
So, after some digging, it looks like I might be able to create a new apn and maybe connect to the right data network that way? Going down this path, I can't by default add any apns, so I followed another discussion and installed root tweaker to be able to fix that. My phone is indeed rooted on lollipop, but the tweaker doesn't seem to change anything for the apn screen, I still can't add nor edit them.
So, my two questions are, should I even be messing with apns (and if not, what should I be doing), and if I should mess with apns, how can I edit it/make a new one?
Thanks so much in advance, I'm getting frustrated with the sprint guys so I'm trying to take some initiative myself.

Try flashing (in recovery) my "MegaAPN" file. It should support a HUGE amount of carriers. You may also need to unlock your apn's so you can edit them. You can do that by searching for this: com.lge.hiddenmenu.settings.ApnUnlock in shortcut master (lite or pro) and clicking the name of the shortcut then just press the "Launch" button (looks like a little Space Ship). Then just press the little "Unlock APN" button and Reboot. You should now beable to add/edit and remove APN's.
Hope this helps:good:
Hi!
I've tried the shortcut master to unlock my apn, and a dialogue bowstring my apn is unlocked appeared, but after a reboot I still have no options to add or edit an apn.
Luckily I do know the carrier I need to be on, and I've found the apn information for that carrier, I just need to be able to add it in the phone I guess.
Thanks for your help!

Problem Solved

Hi, this is the third time I send an email to LG support and hope I get real support istead of being unprofessionally dealt with or simply ignored due to incapability of the service personnel.
I have encountered a LTE network problem after messing something up in the engineering mode by pressing *#546368#*998# on the dialing interface (after reading this thread from XDA: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/us998-hidden-menu-lg-v30-v30-t3719219/page1)
I was just curious to find out all the LTE band numbers my phone supports. But after messing up with the menus, LTE network on my phone collapsed. I am quite hopeless Now since reset did not work at all.
apn set and problem solved.

Question How to enable VoLTE and VoWIFI on AT&T with unlocked Pixel 6?

Hi folks,
The title pretty much says it all. I've got a new unlocked P6 bought from Google, using it on AT&T here in the US. It doesn't show VoLTE and when I go in to turn on VoWIFI I get an error to the effect that "we couldn't turn on VoWIFI."
The VoLTE worked out of the box on my prior phone (OP6T) but I never attempted VoWIFI with it.
Is there a special process to go through, or do I need to chat up the ATT reps? It's possible I'm not provisioned appropriately; my SIM is the same SIM I've been using on several phones over a good number of years.
Before I go in "cold" to a conversation with them I'd prefer to know exactly what to ask them for.
Thanks
Here's their whitelist:
Note this is the latest updated list (edit)
I had to have them enable it for me. I did it via chat support. It broke the ability took make regular calls but a quick call back (from a different phone) and it was fixed.

Ask for "advanced tech support" when the dud robo attendant ask what for, repeat.
I posted (edited) the updated whitelist, with more models and harder to read
I double checked my devices... but the proof will be when they still are working.
Lol, what could go wrong?
Yeah, be afraid, be very afraid
On with chat now. Just gave them my IMEI. We shall see soon
OK, I'm all set. I think, or maybe I hope.
The chat function worked well. After getting past the chatbot I spoke with a real agent, explained my need, and she quickly took my IMEI and got it set up in the system. I got a text quickly that some ATT stuff got activated (I'll be able to turn on spam blocking and such). I was able to go in after a reboot and turn on wifi calling, leaving my preference as using Mobile Network.
I made a test call and it actually used the Wifi instead of mobile, which concerned me. I disconnected from my hotspot and tried a call, and mobile network calling worked fine, though.
Agent said my preference setting should take hold within 24 hours, in any case. We also went into the dial menu and verified VoLTE was turned on:
"Open dial and Type *#*#4636#*#* Choose Phone information option from test Screen. Now you can Enable VoLTE Support Provisioned Flag. Restart your device. Now you can see 4G LTE option under Network Bar. This will activate unlimited HD Voice Calls."
It was on and grayed out, so should be active. Just surprised there was no special icon showing in status bar like my old phone had.
Everything seems to be working so I think I'm good to go. Thanks for your help guys!
edit: after getting me set up she did a hard sell to get me to use the eIMEI for another ATT account. I declined.

See my post above. Enter the code in the dialer to access the hidden menu. It will bring up a screen that shows some settings, one will be the switch for VoLTE. For me it showed on but grayed out, which apparently is the correct setting. If it shows off, that would mean you aren't provisioned for it and need help from your carrier.

*#*#4636#*#* Thanks, very nice. On my N10+/pie this is the only place were the VoLTE setting can be seen as a toggle which is on. Yay.
Oh, one other note. Wifi calling seems to be working fine, though I haven't had a chance to check its integration with Google's visual voicemail.
What I notice is that the decision to use wifi instead of mobile is kinda hair-trigger. At my home, LTE bars are low but calls always work just fine. However, now with wifi calling turned on (with preference being mobile network), the system usually decides to use wifi anyway due to low signal. I also noticed at a grocery store, where my phone auto connects to their wifi, that when I was in the back of the store (weak LTE) it switched to wifi calling mode, then switched back to regular mode in the front of the store (strong LTE signal).
So, the system is conservative and moves over to wifi pretty often rather than treating it like a last resort. I guess that is good behavior.

I have an unlocked P6 direct from Google on AT&T. I have it greyed out but on. Does that mean I need to contact AT&T?
I had never gotten wifi calling set up on anybody my previous phones, so I definitely needed to get that turned on/provisioned for my account. The rep also told me that adding my non-ATT IMEI was needed; indeed several options became available once that was done. I don't think anybody this was needed for VoLTE though.
So pat of this might just have been due to my account history.
To cap this off, I got a wifi call just now and it transcribed fine.

Not needed for VoLTE on AT&T as I can switch the sim card between my AT&T N975U1 and unlocked N975U seamlessly. However I never use wifi, tethering or more advanced features on these two devices... so no idea about that.

Unable to connect to my mobile network

I recently purchased a refurbished phone Samsung Galaxy S21 5G. I just got it yesterday, and found that I am not able to use my mobile network. The sale said it is factory unlocked, and according to the descriptions, it should work just fine with my US Mobile SuperLTE network as well. When I switched on the phone, I see Verizon on the screen and so, I assume that it was locked to Verizon in the past.
When I tried to change the network settings, specifically the APN settings, I get the message "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user." The three dots on the top with reset to default is also greyed out along with Network mode in the previous page. When I click Network Operators and try to connect to the network manually, I am only able to connect to Verizon Wireless and no other. But, calling and messaging seems to work fine. Is it that the unlock process has not been completed properly? Did any of you face the same problem before? It would be great if there is something that I could do to unblock the APN settings as the rest of the phone works really well. The specific model is SM-G991U.
Thanks!

So, you need to go into the settings menu and find about phone, software info. What you want to find is the CSC information.
It will basically look something like this: XAA / XAA-XAA / XAA (or some other letters like VZW or ATT or TMB etc etc.
What taht will tell you is very helpful in determining what rom the phone is running and what kind of device it was originally. Find that in your device and post it and people will help you to figure out what it means.

So the csc info is complicated, I'm no expert on it. But it does look like the OYN indicates it's a multi csc rom. It does have XAA as a part of the code, and that indicates it's 'open' for that specific part. But all the others are VZW. So it's running a vzw rom, obviously.
Your sim US Mobile uses both verizon and t-mobile networks. So it working for calls and texts makes sense, as a vzw phone. You could use patched Odin and flash a different (open) rom, but first you should verify that the device really is unlocked from vzw.
Best way to do that would probably be to insert another carriers sim card and see if it can make calls / texts. If not, it's not unlocked. But are you saying everything works now except mobile data? IOW, no internet access?
I had an international sim card at hand and I put it in. Interestingly the APN settings are no longer blocked. But, I do get a notification from setup wizard saying the inserted sim is not from Verizon and some services may not be available. But, messaging still seemed to work and I was also receiving 4G.

Oh then yer okay. That message from verizon can be gotten rid of a couple of ways; 1) use adb commands to disable the specific packages 2) use patched Odin and flash a different rom
VZW is the only rom I think that does that, and it's very annoying. I don't remember exactly which packages have to be disabled, but search google and use xda and vzw in keywords and u should find it.
The 2nd option would be my choice. It would do away with vzw crap and with an open rom you may find volte and vowifi will work also.
cheers
Thank you so much for your reply. That sounds great! To just give it a try, I tried putting in a TMobile sim and phone restarted to install software for TMobile. After that the APN settings were unlocked and now I am also able to connect to the internet using my US Moblile sim. The only problem is the the network mode is greyed out.
This rom I think only recognizes network from major telecom providers. So, just flashing with an unlocked rom would just help to unlock all the features and also remove telecom specific crap. I will try to flash it today.
Thank you again!
I also just flashed the stock firmware which is fully unlocked. And there is no bloatware from telecom OEM's. I am now able to use the network and set the APN's, but the Network Mode is still greyed out. Is it possible to know why? I am guessing that if the phone is fully unlocked, I should be able to change the Network Mode. Is there any other info that I can give you to help understand what is happening? I do not see vowifi as well.
