No. Only devices originally released with oreo, support treble.

@matrixx1
i am asking because some other oems implemented a special vendor partition to their devices. maybe the tab s3 has a unused vendor partition like the oneplus5t. one of the devs of omnirom made the 5t unofficially treble enabled.

Doubt it as it was released with Nougat. Look at the S8/S8+, no treble. S9/S9+ released with Oreo and treble. Maybe the S4 will have treble.

Oreo update automatically implies project treble enabled or not?

Since kenzo already has AOSP & NOS oreo build available, i just wanted to know if the builds are project treble enabled or not. If not, why not?
no it wont have treble. OEM and qualcomnn must provide drivers etc from a very low level so that it works well. kenzo only had marshmellow, so definetely no. if the device came with android O then it will have.
It's a lot of work which cannot be done by a single person or a team. Even Google has to team up with the silicon vendors and oem to try bring it to current flagships. Lineage Gerrit has some treble related commits, who knows, anything can happen. But it's mostly unlikely.

Android Oreo: Project Treble?

Hi,
Has Android Oreo brought Project Treble to the Honor 9?
PalakMi posted here (#6 comment) that since Honor devices has a separate vendor partition Android Oreo could bring project treble to them.

If you go to the treble thread, you'll see that someone already running AOSP on Honor 9
Really interested to know if someone else tried this treble rom. Please share any feedback if you had.

I thought only phones shipped with oreo had proper partitions for treble?! And that phones updated to oreo after could not be partitioned because it could brick your phone.

i know that it could be done, but was not necessarily required for manufacturers.
And yes, huawei enabled treble via an ota update to android 8/emui8 - btw huawei has the new partitions since nougat.

Thank you for answering my questions, I have a last one . Considering that with treble only system partition is flashed, from my understanding, kernel is stock and works with the treble custom rom, is it possible that a device like the honor 9 could get a treble AOSP Android P Rom in the future or that Oero kernel would need to be updated with a full stock EMUI Android P update?

From what I read around the web, it is possible.

i dont think that it will be that easy to port a new major android version, but we'll see how google handles the vendor versioning part.
It is already a big struggle to get 8.1 running upon 8.0 treble implementation, just because fundamental things changed in the main treble implementation.

Great to have all this informations, helps me understand better what is treble. Good luck on your 8.1 port.

Is there any post where I can read more about those problems? I thought it would be the same underlying vendor layer between versions from now on :/

What's with the treble hype?

Is there a reason why every custom ROM seems to go treble? There's no real proven benefit when having unofficial treble. As one of the LineageOS devs said on their subreddit:
You don't get treble. You have it or you don't. All those "ported treble" are plain fake and they don't have the same capabilities of the "real" treble (the one that you have on your device out of the box or from your manufacturer as a stock ROM update).
This because treble requires appropriate changes to the proprietary files (those stored on the vendor partition) that a device without "stock/real" treble won't have

There's only one partition instead of both. The one for seamless updates is missing (I think).
As for treble ROMs, they are pretty much a gimmick unless devs actually make use of them. But I have seen reddit comments about people trying out generic system images via treble TWRP: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/8ac2gc/project_treble_is_amazing_and_because_of_this_my/
You can try it for yourself: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...-development/experimental-phh-treble-t3709659
https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/
What this could mean is, in 2 years if dev support drops for the Note 4, you may still be able to get the most recent version of AOSP or some other ROM as a generic system image. No need to wait around for devs to create ROMs or compile one yourself.

I'm very sad to see R5+ development is currently dead. I was hoping someone would build a Pixel Experience or any AOSP based ROM for our device but even the oreo roms are dead or finalized already. So i don't think people have anymore interest in R5+..

The real problem is lack of updated Oreo kernel sources (how much less Pie). This means, for example, that certain display panels (eg, ebbg) cannot be supported by custom ROMs (you might have to go back to Nougat kernels for that).
Why not write to Xiaomi to release up-to-date Oreo kernel sources for vince in the first instance? If enough people make a fuss, perhaps something will happen ...

Xiaomi however isn't listening their customers. A big example is ARB system which absolutely destroys devices. So i guess we are gonna stay dead until something shows up..

Project treble and s9+

Hello s9+ users.
Although there is a couple 9.0 and 8.1 gsi build....there is a whole forum on xda with builds....my question is...
Will the other project treble forums builds work?
I know our phone is arm64 but some builds say arm64-a or arm64-a/b ..... what would I flash?
Thank you

Not really 100% sure, but I'm guessing the kernel may matter. If your on an Exynos device, and most GSI are built for snapdragon I'd assume since that's the majority of devices. Not sure it it's cross-processor or not, but something to look into.
