I bought my S9+ (SM-G9650 DS) back in April 2018 but these days I've noticed 3 lines that disappear when you clean the screen with microfiber cloth but reappears with my oil skin or water. Try bringing it to an authorized service center. Had a local unit in Philippines have this same issue and they offered to replace the screen and battery.
Two months and 3 weeks with the GS9 + and I'm seeing oleophobic coating wearing off on the spots where thumb is used for scrolling. Not directly visible for now but when applying some drops of water and spreading on the screen can easily show where its wearing off.

Its a problem out here. Service center guys will replace the screen after keeping the phone with them for 1, 2 days but in the process they end up damaging/scratching the phone and then its a never ending process of follow ups . It happened so with my old galaxy s6 edge plus.

I certainly don't have it as bad as him and he also seems to demonstrate it over the main screen, rather than just the sides and the top left. I definitely have it over both the sides (around the curved edges) and the very top left area. What I'm curious about is whether I had it from the very start (you won't notice it until you "dirty" the screen a bit and have the right lighting and viewing conditions) as I don't think it's worsened since I first noticed it 2-3 weeks ago. However, it seems there are more reports of people noticing it get worse, which is not a good.
Do you think this is definitely a new thing or could it have been there from the start?

I've never used any liquids on the screen aside from a bit of water.

I've owned every Galaxy S series smartphone in the past and each one suffered from this oleophobic coating getting removed exactly where the fingers constantly touch(especially the thumb) without the use of any alcohol or any other solution whatsoever and as I never used screen protectors. But S9 plus took the shortest time amongst them if I remember correctly and since currently its not visible yet from any direction or lighting condition without pouring water there, I ended up installing a tempered glass.
I've noticed this in two spots on my Galaxy S9+. A vertical streak in the upper left corner and a vertical streak on the middle-right.
They're not near the rounded part of the edge. They're not where my fingers reach. I think it was always like that but I only noticed recently. And in the brighter summer sun, it's VERY noticeable now.
Not sure of the best way to get it replaced.
Bought it through T-Mobile. Do I take it to them to replace? UBreakIFix? Or any other Samsung authorized repair place like the specific Best Buy ones?

Clearly feels like QC issues in your case. Rather ask for replacement than going for repairing and such.
Sure. It's not the easiest thing to photograph. You have to get the reflection just right. But you can see here when I smear my palm across the upper corner and the sides, there's a toothpick-sized streak that doesn't get any fingerprints on it. And in the bright sunlight it's really noticeable.

Yeah its seen clearly. You should Ask T-Mobile for a replacement I would say,
Sorry for late reply but I got my phone repaired for free at Samsung Customer Service, if you also have problems with your oleophobic coating go inmediately and they should give you a new device or at least a screen replacement.
In my case the receptionist didn't understand what the oleophobic coating was and she said that my phone doesn't have any issues so you should try to convince her/him by using a flashlight to highlight the lines/smudges on the screen are still there even after they cleaned it with a microfiber cloth.
I received the phone after 4 days and they had also changed the battery and the buttons without any extra charge.
PD: English isn't my main language so feel free to correct my grammar if I've made any mistake or you doesn't understand me.

If they consider it as a manufacturing error, the repair will be free of course. Otherwise, screen replacement is around 200€.

It's only been a month since I bought my S3. I have 5-6 very tiny scratches on my screen which are easily visible in bright light. :crying:
It's like a group of scratches at the bottom center of my screen. I am still trying to figure out how I got them. I can assure you that I am not responsible for these scratches. :crying:
I have treated my phone with respect and yet it has developed these scratches. I have never dropped my phone. I have never kept it face-down on any surface.
The funny part is that the back cover on the Samsung Galaxy S3 sucks as well. Its got tiny scratches all over even though I have never ever kept the phone on any surface without keeping a micro-fiber cloth under the phone!
The only possible explanation for the scratches can be dust. Can I claim warranty on the phone since the screen is supposed to be scratch resistant?

I am not allergic to either. The problem is that I ordered the TRIDEA ALIKE case on 8th June from ebay but there were some manufacturing problems and the case delivery got delayed. It should be here in a weeks time. There are no decent screen protectors available in the local market. The ones that are available on ebay will take 2 weeks to be delivered to my country. With the case still not delivered, I am still contemplating about ordering a screen protector online or waiting for it to hit the stores.

No one in their right senses would think of not putting a screen protector on a costly phone. Like I said, I was waiting for some screen protectors to hit the local markets since I already had a bad experience with shopping for a case online. I ordered it a month back and it's still not here.
I heard that the Galaxy s3 comes with an additional coating that repels oil. Could it be possible that I have only scratched this coating and not the actual glass. If yes, how can I tell the difference?

What makes you think I am stupid? I have had 2 phones with gorilla glass before I got my s3 and none of them got a single scratch on them ever. I started using a screen protector when my phones were a couple of months old since its human nature to not care much about old things.
I was waiting for a good screen protector to be available in the local stores because I only just got the phone and thought It was okay to wait for sometime before I get a screen protector. I had no idea the S3 screen was going to be this delicate.

If I was in your situation, I would not use the phone untill I get screen guard.
Every screen gets scratches even if its scratch resistance.

What screen protector do you recommend. Something that I can get quickly and has good quality. I know SGP makes the best ones but are they available in India. Ordering online means having to wait a very long time for the shipping! ;(

1 SGS1, unscratched. 3 SGS2s, one with small scratch on screen and many chips in bezel, one with totally smashed screen (tram ran over it), one unscratched. 1 SGS3, tiny scratch on screen. 1 Lumia 800, unscratched (unused, to tell the truth).
I can barely see the scratch on the SGS3, it's ca. 3mm long, upper right of screen. And as said, since it was my fault for taking it to a beach, that's even less reason to beat myself up about it.
Screenguards seem to be the way forward for you. I just don't care enough - phone's for using, and I can't be bothered with the hassle of "babysitting" it instead of using it.

That makes sense. I hate the fact that I have to treat my phone like a living thing. I am only going to do this to get a good resale value on my phone when I decide to upgrade just like i did with my older phones.

In fairness, mine hasn't lasted the last 3 days on the beach.. It was hidden in my bag but sand gets everywhere. A few small scratches, but so be it my phone is staying naked.
Ok, firstly I'll admit that I suffer from a certain level of OCD when it comes to phones. I ordered a GPE last week and was very impressed with the phone. The size is a bit large, but everything else, except for the camera, is phenomenal with this phone.
However, about one week after I got the phone, I noticed what can best be described as a smudge on the front lower right corner, about the radius of a quarter. Granted, since it is at the corner, the total size would be a quarter of a quarter. Anyway, it is usually hard to see it unless you run your finger over the area, whereby the spot becomes clearly visible. I don't know if it is a scratch on the screen protector, but I can't feel any texture and light doesn't seem to show any micro abrasions. It almost seems to be under the screen protector.
Anyway, the unit also had a weird creak on the back of the phone (pressing it in an area would make the phone creak), so I asked for a replacement unit. I got it yesterday and what do you know, the smudge is there on the new unit, too! So my question to other Z Ultra owners is whether this is a common thing and secondly, whether it is an issue with the screen protector only, not some damage to the screen.
The best way I can describe it is as if someone applied pressure on the corner leaving a mark. Again, it is really hard to see if the screen is clean, but becomes easily visible if you smudge the corner with your finger - a clearly visible quarter-circle will become visible if your phone is like mine. Thanks for your help. BTW, I'm going to keep my phone unless it turns out that the smudge is some kind of pressure damage.
The anti finger print coating wears off real fast on the xzu, only way to solve this is to either remove the sony screen protector or apply another screen protector on top of it. Mine wore out in a week, and your replacement gpu is most likely a used defective unit being refurbished. The reason why the smudge is on the lower right corner is because that's the area you use most often....for scrolling and unlocking the screen, hence the wear out

I'm not so sure my replacement unit is a refurbished one. I believe Google has a policy to replace phones with new devices. Also, it is basically the exact place and shape as the smudge on my previous phone, and this unit has been used for only a bit more than 24 hours. The smudge starts at the lower right corner of the glass on the front of the device and goes as far as barely short of the actual display portion of the glass slab.
With sample of two devices, it seems to be a result of the manufacturing process because the two are so similar. Just weird. I guess if it really gets under my skin I'll try to remove the film.

I just wanted to add that I have the exact same issue. Noticed it today while going to show someone it.
I've been babying the heck out of the phone to prevent this issue, but unfortunately my screen protector and case won't show up until a few days from now.
I'm hoping applying the screen protector over it is all I need to do.

Smudge in up left corner
Hi.Just bought this phone and when i clean the screen from fingerprints i see a smudge or mark or whatever its called about 1 x 1 cm in the left up corner.Is it normal?
If you look carefully it seems to be from inside and it doesnt leave.You can see it better only when you pass over it with a towel while cleaning the screen.
Is it something with antistutter film?Warranty covers it?

I found a solution. I returned the phone back to the shop i bought it, i took back my money and i just ordered it from another shop.

My 2 week old s6 edge screen has cracked. It has been in the clear view case the whole time, never dropped and today i saw a crack that runs straight from the left hand edge near the bottom all the way to the top in the middle of the phone.

Cracks in hard materials tend to start and propagate along weak spots, therefore scratched glass cracks much more easily than smooth glass. The whole trick to Gorilla Glass is to produce as smooth a surface as possible, and to harden the surface to make it more resistant to scratching, thus less prone to cracking. So, if it scratches easily, it probably cracks easily too.

I actually think its the coating on the glass that that scratches rather than the glass itself personally, Corning didn't really make a big deal about scratch proofing with GG4 but more about shatter resistance.
Either way I don't think a light surface scratch (not a deep gouge) should cause a crack, and if it does then I'd expect it to be covered.

Per the article I linked above, two important features of Corning's manufacturing process are to prevent surface imperfections in manufacturing and hardening the surface of the glass to prevent scratching (a form of surface imperfection) in use. Those two things are what make Gorilla Glass more shatter resistant then traditional glass.

Nearly every piece of glass in your life is cut by intentionally scratching it followed by a light application of force. Here's a video of a man cutting 19mm (3/4") thick glass. The depth of the cut is a tiny fraction of the thickness of the material. You might even think of it as a "light surface scratch," as you say above. And he didn't have to drop it from a height of 6' break it.
My suspicion is that Corning has not yet perfected the manufacturing process for complex shapes, given the number of complaints of scratched and broken displays on the S6 Edge.

The difference is that it happend when the phone was in my own hands and I was peacefully browsing.. all of a sudden I heard a soft cracking sound. mine is also 2 weeks old, it is always in its case and literally there is not even a tiny scratch on it. Front and rear glass is like brand new. Wtf???

edit: you can use your IMEI number to identify the manufacturing place, there are plenty of places on the web where you can do this.

If you cannot find a good analyzer online, just check the imei, remove the first SIX digits, note the next two, and you should have 7 digits remaining.
Mine is ike: xxxxxx-06-xxxxxxx - this means that it was manufactured in Hong Kong, China, or Mexico.

Mine cracked too, had mine for 3 days and it cracked from the top right all the way to the bottom left. I have no idea what caused it to happen as it was always handled with care.

My screen just cracked after one week of purchase. I noticed a bubble on the left side of the screen, I touched it and the screen spilt from left to right. Never dropped, in a heavy duty case, with a screen protector. My imei number is 06 according to the post above.
I spoke to Samsung and they said that this is considered damage to to phone and that it would void my warranty, but seeing how it has only been a week they would see what they could do.
When asked if this is a common problem he responded that this was the first call of this nature.. hmm
I'll let you guys know how it turns out for meeting. As for the rest of you, I suggest calling samsung and referring them to this forum.
3 week crack
I had the same issue, I have checked other forums and have not seen anything in regards to this besides this thread. I had a case on it from the moment I took it out the packaging. The phone was never mishandled or dropped the case is perfect and always stayed in either my pocket with no other items or on a flat surface. Took the phone out of my pocket after not looking at it for a couple of hours and saw the crack on the right side that extends up and down the entire side and through the exact center of the phone.
At first the phone still functioned normally but now the screen does not work at all. Has anyone else experienced this? I called samsung and verizon and went into the local verizon wireless store and they all told me the normal shpeel about how they don't recognize this as a problem and I needed to pay for the repairs.
After 3 weeks of struggling...
Finally. Relief.
I contacted Samsung, after T-Mobile's official service told me that I am the one who caused the screen to crack, despite T-mobile's official resolution that the phone has NO signs of any physical damage.
Samsung requested the original documents I have received after the purchase. I have also sent them the photos I made from several angles showing the crack. After a few days they contacted me,
apologized for the inconvenience and offered to replace the damaged screen.
All in all, this ended well. Hope you guys can achieve this soon, I suggest everyone to inquire at Samsung.
ps.: a friend of mine had the same issue with a regular S6 (not the edge version). Considering this and the above posts, something smells fishy...

the official oneplus 5 screen protector is about 2mm too small and doesn't fix the phone all the way around. It's supposed to be "3D" so it would hug the screen all the way around, but ends up pushing up on all sides because of the shape of it causing bubbles. I've attached several pictures showing that the application of it is perfectly centered in the pictures of the home and ear speakers. there's also a black border all around the screen protector on all the non-screen parts which ens up actually cutting off a few pixels around the entire screen..... you can see it completely cuts off a '0' in the recorder app, and the app drawer's scroll bar is almost completely cut off as well....
I've contacted OnePlus support and they declined my rma claim stating the below:

Thanks for the heads-up man! I was about to order it.
I installed mine yesterday. I also have the black parts cutting off the pixels on the sides..
I ordered a Nillkin today, hoping it will fit better.
Totally agree. Watched this video by @niijonodhg , saw it in his thread and it turned me off it totally! £18 for that crap? Bit disgraceful tbh. Purchased this Orzly one instead. Had it for my op3, and another video by the same guy said it was better then last year and he preferred it then the 3d glass one!
This was already known about and was shown in the video below...
It showed similar problems to their previous ones, namely when you're on the bootloader screen the protector cuts off some of the text because it's protruding onto the actual display area. He also showed the same problem as you @Nomelas, whereby the edges were not adhering properly.
I've got the Orzly protector (none of the cases I've ordered have arrived yet sadly) and it seems great (it does show fingerprints a little and there's a tiny bit of rainbowing), it's 2.5D rather than 3D, it also has a black border on it but it doesn't protrude onto the screen like the official one it also seems to be the favoured protector on the forums at the moment, here's a review of that one.
@niijonodhg (aka Absolutely Savage on YouTube) made these and is apparently doing a series of reviews, all very helpful
Here's the obligatory Orzly official application and test video:
They also show how well it works with a couple of the official cases.
I bought the original tgsp from OP.
I would not recommend that one.
Hard to apply without air on the sides/corners.(No dust)
And covers way too much of the screen!
Still trying to get my money back. As it is way too much for such a bad design.
If I keep the phone I will try to find a good replacement.
I honesly not sure why they are still selling them. Like most people in this thread already say. Orzly's TGSP does a much better job.
I have used same protector on OP3T and already installed to OP5 also.
Cutting couple pixels is said on product information. Im assuming you all readed it before ordering so you should know that. Also i dont have any bubbles, nice and clean installation without any issues so bubbles are user installation fault.
Comparing this to Orzly:
OP:
+ Adhesive on full screen part: its harder to install but really clear visiblity on screen, no gap between tgsp and screen and no oil slicks.
+ Really great oleophotic coating
+- Cutting off less than mm from both sides of screen. Its told on Oneplus website whem ordering (product information). Its so small that it dont bother me almost at all.
Orzly:
+ Dont cut as much as OP's own.
- Glue/adhesive only on edges which will cause small gap between screen and tgsp=not so clear visiblity as it would be if adhesive would been full screen. Also big possiblity for oil slicks. Also possiblity to pull of easier.
- Bad oleophotic coating

I got it in the bundle with the case, ear buds and 150mm extra dash cable (but no extra adapter....) and while it was basically free, I'm still pissed at the false advertising.... why would they sell a defective product? its a clear rip off. They probably made them all and by then it was too late so now they're trying to get rid of them, greasy imo.....
If it wasn't for this one (major) flaw, I'd say it would have been an amazing screen protector. I'll probably still use it until it scratches or breaks then get that orzly one.

Disclaimer was there same time when sales started. How i know? I ordered exactly same package than you!
Tell me how it's defective product? Because you messed up installation and got bubbles? That dont make product defective. Cut off is intentional, otherwise they wouldnt manage to do full adhesive, only side ones which is bad.

yeah I guess I lack the Doctor Strange ability to bend reality... my bad.
On another note, it's funny how a 3rd party can make a better fitting screen protector. I'll definitely be getting the Orzly.
And for the price, you'd think OnePlus would put a bit more R&D into it, like using a ruler.

Funny how you are crying how defective product is and when you are asked what makes product defective you answer with some stupid comments. For me it looks now like its defective because you messed installation and you didnt read disclaimer when you ordered.
You are free to buy what ever you want. My opinion is Orzly isnt better that OP's own, your opinion is that it is better and im fine with that.

I have seen all of videos but still dont see anything which would show about defective product. Maybe your piece was. Mine is just perfect without any bubbles.
It isnt design flaw, it was meaned to be like that because you wouldnt get full adhesive without it. It they would leave that area clear it would been look ugly because of halo and people would start cry. They choosed to not use "glue on sides" method as they even know that method is bad and screen wouldnt be as clear as without protector or with full adhesive screen protectors.

Well if i would need to choose between these:
1. Full adhesive: Drawback it will cut off your screen about 0,3mm per side but you have really clear view of your screen and no gap.
2. Side glues: No screen cut off, but gap between screen snd tgsp and because of that not that clear view either.
I would definetely choose option 1. They didnt have options if they wanted full adhesive.
Cut-off is so small that it wont even bother me and many other user as almost all apps has gapps on side before real content shows. Ofcourse i would like without cut-off but it dont bother me and i still prefer OP's official because of full adhesive and best oleophotic coating i have seen.
BTW, Orzly for OP3/3T had cut-off too. It was only like 0.1mm from both sides but it still was cut-off. And im almost sure they still have it, especially when OP5 is littlebit smaller than 3T was.

It's more like 0.9mm on EACH side which is very significant actually if you consider 401 ppi on the screen meaning you get almost 30 pixels cut off from each line from left to right. Factor in the height of 1920 pixels you lose 57,600 total pixels on your phone. Now, take into account there's a total of 2,073,600 pixels on the screen, you actually lose close to 3% of your total screen behind unnecessary screen protector bezels.
Hell, I'd gladly take 0.1mm over 0.9mm
Fought with oneplus and they now approved my claim for a replacement. Seems they at least acknowledge the issue but I doubt a replacement will solve anything. We'll see when I get it I guess.

good for you. I am in the process of fighting with them too because after my flawless installation, there began to accumulate dust under where the proximity sensor is. They told me its my fault because there was dust underneath before i installed it. wtf.
i have never dealt with such inept customer "support" I tweeted, chatted, emailed and called them today and supposedly a supervisor is reviewing my claim.
I have not taken it off yet, because despite its flaws, it adheres to (almost) the whole screen, and while i have orzly waiting, i cant stand the rainbow oil slick due to the lack of complete adhesive.

That also is happening to me. I'm going to hold onto the replacement and I bought the orzly to try out. We'll see which is better. Either way I'll have one extra of each after replacing this one.
I have the tiniest scratch on my v30, can barely tell unless in bright light glaring off the screen, has anybody tried a dyi to remove a little baby scratch that worked?
Curious about this too... have had the phone for a week and actually had a screen protector on it. When removed, (I replaced the screen the protector with another type), I have just a very tiny scratch that only shows in bright light at a specific angle. Should I switch out the phone or just live with it?

I would personally just live with it...those tiny scratches are bound to happen eventually no matter how careful you are

Ok...thanks! I can imagine how tough it would be to convince the VZW rep that there is a scratch, especially when you have to tilt the phone at a specific angle and in certain light to just see maybe a hint of it. Sounds like overkill on my part.....thanks for convincing me to fight off OCD!

Haha if that's all it took, that's some level 1 OCD.
I had my LG v30 for five days at home. Never pocketed with anything and today I noticed three little scratched dead center top of phone. Same type as OP.
Wondering if I can trade it in. I had my HTC one m8 for 3.5 years before I got my first scratch. T-Mobile service.
