Oreo Update - Screenshots are saved as .jpg by default now - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

Is there anyway to change this so I can go back to .png? Thanks everyone.
EDIT: Doesn't seem like there is currently a way to change this unless you rollback to Nougat. Game Tools allows you to take a screenshot and save it as a png, but using the hardware keys to take a screenshot will result in a jpg.

[Q] wallpaper folder

Hi all, wondering if anybody could help me!!
Google has turned up nothing so far so im gonna ask away!!
I am currently using nobodyatall's cm7 2.0 on my x10mini and am wondering where and how I can save pictures that I want as wallpapers.
Basically I don't want wallpapers to show up in my regular picture gallery, I want them only to show in the wallpaper gallery when i go to change wallpapers.
Is there a folder on the SD card or the internal memory, or is there a way I can open an APK in winrar or whatever and drop the pictures in there?
Regards
A
There are two ways that I can think of for you to do this. First, just create a folder in your SD card labeled wallpapers (or whatever you want). Then place all your wallpapers there.
Easy way: Use QuickPics. It has an option to hide a folder from the gallery. Just long press on the folder and you'll find the option.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder
Still easy (just not automated):create an empty file in your wallpaper folder with filename ".nomedia" without the quotes. This will prevent the gallery from scanning that folder. This also works to prevent music files from showing in the player.
To change your wallpaper, if using QuickPic, just press your menu button > show hidden > enter the folder and click the picture > use as wallpaper. If you don't want to use QuickPic, use a file manager to go the wallpaper folder then select your picture from there.
Great sugestions, especially the hideden folder option, however what I'm looking for (I wasn't quite sure how to explain this properly before!!) is to be able to add images directly to the menu of wallpapers like when you long press the screen and it gives you options to change the wallpaper I get a list of options, cyanogen wallpapers, gallery, live wallpapers, wallpaper gallery and wallpapers.
I would like to be able to add wallpapers directly to one of these menus, so I'm looking for the folder in which they are all kept in. I found one in one of the internal apk's, but i'm not sure if I can just inject them into the apk and also whether i need to include thumbnail size png's as the ones included with cyanogen seem to have these to.
Thanks for a great comprehensive reply. If all fails, I'll be looking at the hidden folder option!!
Cheers!
That's a bit harder. Sounds like it shouldn't be but it actually is since you'll be modding an apk. Here are a couple of links to get you started if you're really interested in doing this:

Thanks man, some great info, the first post really hits the nail on the head, I didn't think of checking the other forums (duh me, it's all android!!)!!
So it looks like I will have to take out the launcher.apk and recompile it after editing the xml file that contains the details of the names of the wallpapers. I'm guessing this is some sort of framework xml for the purposes of creating the horizontal table that you can swipe across to view the previews of the pictures.
This makes sense I guess, loading a table reather than using up memory to load a gallery style viewer that indexes the pictures seems much more streamlined seeing that is only for the use of wallpapers, however I do like the wallpaper gallery style that the xml framewrok brings.
I guess I'm going take the newer(and some older) wallpapers from other cm roms and rename them over some of the exisitng files. This way I shouldn't have to delve too deeply!!!
Thanks again for the help and info leftAlone, you are a star!!!

[Q] Screenshots in .png?

When I make a screenshot with the SGS2 it's in .jpg, but I want them in .png for better quality of the screenshot. Any1 knows how to change this?
You can not do this with the inbuilt screenshot function of GS2. You might want to take a look at third party apps for taking screenshot. Some of them offer this function to change extension/quality of the screenshot taken.
Root it and use shootme to capture screen shot.
As far as I know, screenshots are saved in .png format in KG1 and newer. Correct me if I'm wrong.

3D Alignment Changes Not Saving

I seem to have an issue whereby when I adjust the alignment of a 3D image to make it crisper and then click Save, the image looks fine. Then when I navigate to another image or exit the gallery the image alignment reverts back to the original and the changes aren't saved.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Some people seem to have the same issue: http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=10163
Bump?
I've tried restarting the phone and removing the battery but the problem still persists...
Hmmm, I've noticed some changes seem to be saved but after connecting the phone to my Mac changes are lost! The file modified date does not change from the created date either...
I've found an app called 3DSteroid which can make alignment changes but surely I shouldn't really have to buy an app to do what the phone should already do!
So nobody else has this problem on here?
What are you using to adjust use alignments?
The standard Gallery app like so:
http://www.htc.com/uk/howto.aspx?id=83886&type=1&p_id=398
Wow! I didn't even know about that! That's cool. Now I can save my 3D pictures into 2D. Woohoo!
As for your question, mine remembers the settings. You think your gallery apk is corrupted? If so, I could upload mine and see if that helps.
Hehe it's a good feature to have (while it works on mine!).
Out of interest on yours does it remember the settings after you plug/unplug the phone from a computer and does it actually modify the files or does the gallery app store the alignment settings?
Thanks but I'm not rooted and I'm guessing I can't replace the app without having root access? It's something I'm looking at doing but I've only just got the phone so I'm a bit nervy about it!
From the looks of it, the gallery just remembers the new alignment. I don't think you need to be rooted to reinstall an apk file.
PM your email address to me. I'll send it to ya.
Ah thanks, I've just PM'ed you with my email. Do I just install from ASTRO like any other apk file?
Thanks!
The version you sent me was slightly newer. I clicked Upgrade but it comes up with an error 'Application not installed'.
File Version = 4.02117323218.115252
Installed Version = 4.0.2116342830.92213
Maybe I do need root access?
Well that sucks.
It's very odd... on some pics the settings seem to save (but then can revert back again at some point) and on other pics the settings don't save at all!
Oh well, thanks for your help anyway.
No prob. Hurry up and get rooted!
You guys do realize the adjustment is on a per-image basis, right? The setting isn't supposed to "stick" as a global setting because you are not adjusting the display: you are adjusting the parallax of an individual photo.
Mike
Yes we do. He's talking about how he tries to save the change, but for that file, it doesn't save the change.
And it's really weird how they revert back after a while, which leads me to believe that option has a cache limitation in the gallery, or either that his gallery is messed up.

Hi, yes I realise it is on a per-image basis. The issue I'm having is that changes do not 'stick' to the images.
I guess a hard reset could help but I'm reluctant to do that as it'll mean re-applying all my settings etc.

[PROJECT] Better WatchFace API through HuamiWatchFaces.apk patch

Hello everyone,
Currently the available commands/API we can use for the creation of a *.wfz watch face is very limited. We can create in-line digital clocks through images (can't separate hours from minutes), normal clocks and very limited widgets (steps, wather, battery etc). What if we could patch HuamiWatchFaces.apk in order to make it support a wider range of commands?
We will need to:
- Decompile the HuamiWatchFaces.apk (with the odex file):
I managed to deodex the whole system of stockfield (US 1.3.5) using this software tool.
So, this is the HuamiWatchFaces.apk deodexed: View attachment HuamiWatchFaces-Stockfield-1.3.5-Deodexed.apk
Using APK Studio you can decompile it and see the *.smali files. OR
Using dex2jar we convert the classes.dex file (unzip the attached) to *.jar : View attachment classes-dex2jar.jar
which we can open and read with jd-gui
- Change the code to provide a better API (ability to change minutes position, widgets with custom images of percents etc)
We must read the java code and change the smali...
- Repack back to apk OR provide a patch for the apk
What i have found until now:
(see file: classes-dex2jar.jar\com\huami\watch\watchface\widget\TimeDigitalWidget.class)
- AM/PM are drawn outside of the screen (position x 203, y 1). We could create some xAm and yAm parameters BUT currently they are no READ from watch.xml + they are not passed to the approprite function
- Different position of hours and minutes exists but parameters are not read and they are calculated based on the width and the time position
- The indicator ":" is always turned on (parameter: mEnableIndicator), it needs to be read first
- We could enable the display of seconds... (parameter: mDrawSeconds), it needs to be read first
- Parameters are read in file: classes-dex2jar.jar\com\huami\watch\watchface\util\WatchFaceConfig.class and declared in classes-dex2jar.jar\com\huami\watch\watchface\model\WatchFaceModuleItem.class
What do you guys think?

Where on the device is that APK located? I'd like to take a look.
Yo can take a look to the PACEfied Watch Face app here.
Let me know if you want to take a look to latest 1.3.5 US Stock Watch Face app too.
We would like the stock 1.3.5 version too, since pacefield is the Chinese version
I have pulled the one from stockfield from the temp folder of your installer. I suppose its the same with the official right?

We don't know yet...
1st post update...
Maybe a Good reference wfz file is the "night run" wfz, because it's the only one witch show the seconds even in standby if you reactivate the watch using the automatic Wrist spin.
Only think about
BTW is there any stuff to do with I can support you? Have only a little bit of xml knowledge.
Excellent work, this can help to modify watchfaces with percentage bars, and increase sphere creation possibilities

That's what I thought in the start, but the default watch faces are not *.wtz files. They are programmed in the APK.

Not really. If anyone has coding experience, he can try read the Java code for a start.

Lockscreen Image Change S7 +

Hi all my First Post as new member, (I think I was a member a long time ago, but no email search works)
I have 3 Android devices, my trusty old Galaxy S5, TCL 4K UHD TV and now new TAB7+5G.
Anyway I am trying to change my Lockscreen Image from original but can't seem to find a way and I did search before this thread, I have changed Homescreen Image OK, but not Lockscreen.
Appreciate any help,
Thanks
Ash
There is a service that will change the lockscreen image daily. Go to settings - wallpaper - wallpaper service - enable.
It would have been nice for samsung to enable the service to work for home screen wallpaper too.
Go to wallpapers and when you pick on it asks you which to use for.... home or lock screen.

Hi thanks for that But the Lockscreen Settings are either None (what came with Tab) or Dynamic which gives you options of about 4 category titles and then others within each title, BUT you must have WiFi on and they must update every 2 weeks to change LS cycle.
I don't want this at all I just want to set my own Lockscreen to my image as I can do with the Homescreen (use my image).
Guess we have different tabs.
Edit: Not sure why can't upload a screen shot.
When I go to "Wallpaper" in settings I see my current home an loclscreen images at the top, below that I ..
My Wallpapers
Gallery
Wallpaper Services
Apply Dark Mode
If I pick either My Walpapers, or Gallery and then pick an image I get a meny that asks me where I want to apply it.

Well finally got it,
Because I First added a particular single Jpeg Image from my Mega Cloud it saved in Gallery to a folder called Pictures first when I bought Tab new.
I also use a Recovery App for images off Twitter, etc....some I save and "restore image' from same app.
The image goes in Gallery in 'Restored 'folder.
Even though Gallery has 4 options in bottom of screen the Picture option Only has my Restored Images and not THE Picture I want as Home and Lockscreen.
As I said Yes I can use My jpeg as Homescreen Only as it gave me no other options, BUT when I copied this same Jpeg over to Restored Folder and opened up image there were the options to add to Hone and Lockscreen...so it worked.
Anyway all good, just the usual learning BS with Sammy and their control with OEM.
I am going from Android 6 to 10 in one hit, still learning.
Thanks.
