Xiaomi Mi8 Explore edition has a "transparent" back, really? - Xiaomi Mi 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition has a transparent glass back that shows off suspiciously pretty internal components. This design looks cool, but somebody said it's maybe a sticker.
What do you think?

Nobody sad this, it's glass!

It's glass and I assume that one would be very hard to get...

It has a glass back but you're not looking at the phone's internals. There is a heatpipe, magnetic shield, plastic cover on top of the components, and finally 3D sticker on top of the glass back.
Believe me, it's better this way. You get better performance and durability than having the components exposed, and it's a lot prettier than the alternative - look at the HTC U11 for example.

Really, I absolutely agree. In any Xaomi phone, performance and durability are important. Therefore, TRANSPARENCY or not, the phone is really worth it!

Not a sticker, you see on the back upper half, are parts of the actual mainboard.

It's not a sticker, what you see are actual components, they just don't contribute to the phone, they're more like "dummy" components apparently

Looks legit

So are those are the real components that can be seen through the transparent back?

[Concept] Nexus 6P's "visor" in white

Decided to see how the Nexus 6P's "visor" would look like in white / silver for the Frost / Aluminum models. I think it looks decent.

All of the sensors on the back are going to still be black btw, like with any white phone.

Can't hide them with white coating/stickers from Dbrand or Slickwraps? :silly:
I am just a newbie here with this technology.. What is a visor and how is it different from a case?

It's the black glossy bar surrounding the camera/sensors at the top. Google calls it the "Visor" (marketing term, I guess)
Wouldn't these block the laser focus?

and guess which one of those was more of a "bad ass"? just cause r-too survived multiple wars doesn't mean he can kick ass. that giant martian robot thing vaporized cities.

Cool but it needs to be clear for the autofocus laser.
I think it kind of actually looks better with the black visor.

i'm anxious to see a teardown of this model. what is behind the glass? is the glass tinted/painted black or is there something against it that gives it the color?

if that's the case - all of this hub-bub over what to cover it with is invalidated if we can just change the plate behind it. would be sweet if you could re-position the notification LED to illuminate the back panel.
I like the black bar and I'll embrace it. Went with the Frost to emphasize it. Besides, those chamferred edges on the Frost was just too sexy to pass up.

That is awesome, was this a difficult process? Just curious as I hate the idea of a non removable battery and would like to hope I could tear it down and replace it myself if needed.
:Funny thing...
This is what 75 percent of owners have said has happened to their phone, after a 3 inch drop onto a goose-down pillow
This phone looks good even when torn down!

Was thinking the same thing
You've got bigger cajones than me. This sort of stuff is far too fiddly for my liking
If it ain´t broke, don´t fix it Take good care and use a protective case and your phone will be good for at least 2 years ( until you get to choose a new device from your mobile provider ).
I have to say the battery is fiercely glued in. If you want to see how to change the battery, you can come to Witrigs.com/blog to see the process. Hope it does help.

Is there any information regarding the headphone jack audio amplifier chip?
The most intimidating thing about taking this apart is the glass over the camera area. Sure, I might get it out but not breaking it in the process is going to be tough much less getting it back without the glue looking like crap.

Gradient Tempered Glass Case For Xiaomi Mi 9

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Gra..._expid=795fc3d4-d6db-4038-9088-ee49b5b064d3-0
Anyone have a idea how to remove these font on the back cover? I want to buy the red/black version but with this font, it looks very bad. Any solutions?
I have this case, it's actually very high quality and fits better than the other case I got. but yeah teh text on teh back is unattractive and mine says 40megapixel camera which is wrong, it's 48
I'm looking at this one, to make my standard Mi 9 into Explorer edition style

This was the best one I found with good price, although it has the company logo at the bottom.
I've found one without any ADS, just like the real Mi 9 Explorer, but it costs over 14 dollars + 5.28 for shipping, kind expensive just to have the logo removed.

Does anyone have this case could provide some details about the thickness the phone gets after installing it?
Some people report the phone gets thick, way thicker than having a standard TPU case for example, because you have plastic + glass.

Maybe try a solvent, like acetone. Don't know if it will work, but if it is printed on the glass (instead of etched or carved), it might dissolve.
EDIT: Reviews on AliExpress say that it does not seem to be real glass, so beware, because separating plastic from plastic is way harder than to separate plastic from glass

Camera protector

I have ordered a hydrogel camera protector from Aliexpress, however it makes the camera images fuzzy, lighter and less contrasty. Removed it of course, so I was wondering whether any of you tried some camera protector that does not change the quality of the camera?

It looks bulky that's why I put a back skin on my Pixel 6, it doesn't put weight and it looks cool! I got this from Gadgetshieldz because Dbrand's price is a little high.
