Need help restoring back to stock from phh-trebble GSI - Huawei MediaPad M5 Questions & Answers

I flashed phh-trebble to my CMR-W09 10" non pro when I got it and it was working great, so great that I figured I will try another GSI specifically the Pixel Experience one, but that unfortunately was bootlooping, so I flashed back to phh-trebble, while troubleshooting the bootlooping issue from before I had to wipe data, so when I flashed phh-trebble I was starting from scratch, this time however most apps weren't working, dialog shows up saying app stopped, I tried numerous things to get it to work but nothing works, my only hope now is to flash my tablet back to stock and if that works fully try flashing phh-trebble again.
I tried using Firmware Finder but the firmware it downloads doesn't work, using the SD card method to restore to stock it fails after 5% saying software install failed, I looked to see if I could extract system.img from the firmware but it's not there, closest to it is system-a.img but I can't extract it, as it fails ever time.
If anyone has system.img from their EU CMR-W09 10" non pro I would greatly appropriate it.

This will allow you to extract the image required to go back.
Good Luck!

[q] help!! Note down

So ,im sorry but its a long story. Hopefully someone can help. My note is Rooted Ive been using TWRP. Everything had been fine until 2 days ago. I tried flashing a ROM i found on Goomanger.( I had been running liquid smooth) just wanted to try something different. Anyways it got stuck on a boot loop. Cant remember the name of the Rom. Anyways i was able to get back to recovery, thankfully. But when i wiped and flashed back to liquid smooth it would say optimizing apps, then it would reach a certain number then reboot and star all over again. So then i tried another Rom and the same thing happened. tried flashing back to stock rooted but it would turn on then completely crash and star booting up again. So finally i was able to flash paraandroid 4.1.2 and Gapps, but here is the kicker i have no service (AT&T) says cannot locate network, my IMEI is gone basically the cellular isn't working. Everything else works fine WiFi,apps, camera. Just cant make calls. I really need your guys help please.:crying:
If you have a suggestion please let me know, i hate using an old Iphone

Just odin back to stock. Get a complete factory stock image from the main sticky thread and flash it with Odin and Download Mode. There's a bug on one of the TWRP versions with 4.3-based ROMs that will put it into a bootloop by breaking device reboots. I was unable to flash my way out of the problem and was forced to do a complete reimage which solved all the problems and put me right back to clean-out-of-the-box state, then I reinstalled TWRP (though an older version before the boot loop bug) and re-flashed my custom ROM. The package I used was the stock image and Odin tool all in one .exe, just plug in to download mode and run it and it flashed bootloader, recovery, system, kernel, etc. all back to stock.

Thanks thats what i did, I just basically had to use KIES to use the emergency recovery, then root my phone again. My question is what version of TWRP causes this? cause i used the newest version i could find off GOO. My other concerne is, will it accept or be safe to use a custom ROM? Well i gues ill find out  THANKS AGAIN!
Everyone with the sgh-i717 is having problems with the latest TWRP and the most stable version is 2.5.0.0. Go with that one or you'll be starting all over again I imagine. And don't just stop at the download link in the OP's, read the thread and find out what's going on. The problems with TWRP have been going on for a while and the development threads have a lot of comments about the latest build causing problems. Good luck! :good:

OnePlus X soft-bricked after version update

tl;dr - Can't seem to find my way out of a software brick. Have sideloaded the stock OS from 1+ but still forever getting the spinning dots or fastboot screen, depending on which mode i boot into.
Hi all. Signed up to make this thread, but i've been lurking for years.
I have a OnePlus X that is about the least modded smartphone i've ever owned. I've never been pleased enough with a retail product that i didn't feel compelled to strip out the bloat and start over, until this phone. Other than stock, i've just got a gallery app, some apps for manipulating text files or compiling code, couple games, and social media apps.
Anyway, a few days ago i got a notification about a software update. Downloaded. Installed. Updated. No problem.
Maybe yesterday or the day before, it showed up again. This morning i downloaded, installed, and suddenly i have apps closing. It's been over 12 hours so i'm hazy on how it all started, but i was getting something like "package installer" errors when attempting to open some apps. Same deal when i went to adjust permissions of those affected apps. Every time i unfocused a box that had pulled up swype, i would get an error message saying swype crashed or closed or something.
So i started uninstalling third party apps (i don't keep many, and most i've had for years so i think they're probably trustworthy). Same deal. Started uninstalling updates to google apps. Same deal. Went to uninstall and reinstall some non stock apps that i'd kept previously. Nothing.
I went to cook breakfast while an app was reinstalling, and i came back to a red dot on my screen with two white dots chasing each other around it. From what i'm reading that's a sign of a bootloop or software brick. I've taken all steps i could find, including wiping cache and sideloading a fresh stock OS, but to no avail.
Is it that i've ruined my google apps somehow and need to restore them? How would i even go about figuring out what the problem is? Any advice or guidance is appreciated
Hi,
As your device is in bootloop state, try flashing the stock rom. Make sure you wipe data and cache. As far as after update problems, i faced it few times. After updating many app crashed and phone hangs. So i prefer clean flash over dirty flashing, to make sure everything is hazel free. For the time being i upgraded from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 without wiping data or cache and facing no problem( of course since it was an OTA). But sometimes situation comes when after update phone act weird, so tbe option which i prefer then is clean flashing the stock rom. Hope this helps.

I have wiped cache, deleted data, tried a factory reset in the stock bootloader, and i have used ADB to sideload a full stock rom (not upgrade package) that i downloaded from OnePlus.
Flash old stock recovery then 2.2.3. From there you can flash any MM stock firmware.

Pardon me for being nooby, but how do i do this? Do i just sideload in ADB like i did the ROM? Most instructions i'm finding assume access to the OS either normally or through fastboot. I'm just stuck in the default recovery.
Thanks for the tip, though. Looking for a copy of the old stock recovery now. Did OnePlus alter their stock recovery recently? In some threads i've seen people say that a recent update made them unable to load a non-stock ROM. Is that the new recovery blocking access to non-1+ operating systems?

Fastboot flash easiest way. Make sure it's the old recovery from 2.2.2. Not the new mm stock recovery.
Yes, but how do i install the old stock recovery? I dug around on the forums and found the file, but the phone rejects it when sideloading and doesn't show the .img in the filesystem when inserted on a SD card.
Have to send it off to 1+ maybe? Literally all i can access right now is the (new) stock recovery. I never modded, rooted, etc before the software update sent me into the chasing dots

I m not a dev, i m a newbie like you. i hv done a lot of experiments with my oneplus-x, as for u the first update u got few days back should be oos 3.1.2 and the one u got 2 days before should be 3.1.3. When u upgrade from lollipop to marshmellow, even your stock recovery got upgraded to latest version, which is something different from old lollipop recovery.
You said you have access to recovery mode. thts pretty much gud, what u can do is that wipe data and cache through stock recovery and do a clean install of oos 3.1.3. I ll be providing all the necessary links down below. If you need assistance with fastboot cmds and anything feel free to ask.

Don't sideload it, use fastboot to flash it. "Fastboot flash recovery name.img" - without he quotes and the image name.
Sorry for vanishing. Had a busy week.
Not sure what happened the first time i tried to put the 2.2.3 image on the SD card, because the file didn't show up in my recovery, but i tried again later (after giving up on flashing the old recovery, since i couldn't figure out how to do that in recovery) and managed to do a clean install of the older OOS version.
That did the trick, and after booting up, my phone proceeded to update again - this time without any crashes or errors with my apps afterward. The phone still does the red dot with the white dots chasing around it when it boots up, which must be the new boot screen. It also seems to stay on that screen for much longer than it stayed on the old morphing shape boot screen, but it still boots up reliably now after 30-60 seconds rather than freezing in boot forever.
I've since enabled dev mode on my phone. Is that going to be enough to enable ADB commands from recovery? I kind of like that i've kept my phone stock, so i'll leave it that way if i can, but it would have been much easier to fix this problem if i'd had access to most of my debug commands. As it was, without dev mode and in the standard recovery, it seemed that sideload was the only command i was able to use, and only when the phone was requesting a sideload over usb

Plz Help!! Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in the zip.

(Moto E XT1526 Sprint US.) There has to be a way to do this!! I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and all was good. Then I mistakenly disabled my Wifi with an app and couldn't turn it back on. So not having done this before I made this mistake of wiping everything including ALL OS & system files via TWRP. Now there's nothing at all to work with besides TWRP. I've tried every stock ROM Ive found and have ran into multiple error messages. Ive been transferring each new ROM I can find to an SD card from a different phone and trying to install that way. I was hoping to get it back to the stock firmware now or really anything that will work. Every stock one I try gives me this message. Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in the zip file. If not this error message then there will be something wrong every time. Is there anyone that can tell me where I am going wrong please? Maybe another approach possibly? I cant get this figured out yet.!

Are you sure the rom files you downloaded are meant to be flashed in twrp? I suggest you read the guide to restore stock firmware, you can find them on general forum
here you can find firmware for your phone https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto E (2nd gen-2015)/Stock/

help with twrp and backups...

Hi, guys
my phone is Huawei p10 Lite (WAS-LX2)
Note: if you have a bricked huawei p10 lite of any kind (incl WAS-LX2) (or a NZ model)
and you want to know how i finally fixed mine, jump down to the end where it says
GOOD NEWS
quick synopsis: unlocked bootloader, flashed twrp, now i get an error (255) when trying to create backup using twrp..
you can read the rest if you want but the above basically covers it please help
so i have unlocked my bootloader and flashed twrp, before i did this i did a factory reset through androids settings, the phone is also only two months old.. but i cannot create a backup using twrp, it always fails in the same place when backing up data, does this mean my stock rom that has never been altered in anyway ect is somehow corrupt? wtf? i havnt even rooted it yet, i was going to make a backup first (of a known good rom.. lol)
i am assuming the data files are part of the rom? not something you can ignore.. they were one of the few things selected by default.. i have tried rebooting phone a few times, formatting sd card etc (64gb) so there is plenty of space...
any help would be much appreciated
the tutorial i was following is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/how-to/twrp-how-to-root-p10-lite-t3617418
my phones full build (or do i mean firmware number?..) number: WAS-LX2C706B170
android version 7.0
emui 5.1
any more info, just ask..
also, ive heard that once you have installed twrp/ unlocked bootloader you cannot use system update or androids factory reset without bricking your phone? is that true? otherwise i want to try that, i just want to root my damn phone already... or... its been a long time since i last rooted a phone... you dont need root to make a twrp rom backup do you? nah, surely not..?
or could my twrp install be corrupt? the tutorial said to drag and drop the downloaded file into cmd, but that wasnt working so i entered the location manually, it still appeared to install fine that way though so surely thats not it. i dont know
ok, i just bricked my phone... i did a factory reset in twrp, thinking it was... a factory reset... i googled whether it was safe first and everything came up clean... but it is not it wiped the os or something and now i just get a boot loop... what the hell? how could i be so stupid?! and how could twrp not warn me.. it was just a factory reset? and i havnt even rooted it yet, at this point i would probably prefer it was rooted in the hope their would be more options available to me to un brick it.. ok now i really need someones help.. why am i drinking and trying to watch tv while doing this, i am so stupid, this is the best and most expensive phone ive ever owned, what have i done?! sorry sorry ill calm down...
so if my firmware number is: WAS-LX2C706B170 then can i use one of these (also for huawei p10 lite) and if so what would be the difference? why are the numbers slightly different? same phone model, different firmware/ slightly...
here they are:
WAS-LX2C706B120
WAS-LX2C185B121
and they each had a OTA and a full firmware version too.
here is the link: https://romfirmware.com/2017/08/04/huawei-p10-lite-was-lx2/
but before i try these things, is there any saving my current stock rom? i dont understand how a factory reset could prevent it from booting properly..? its not actually bootlooping, it either gets stuck on logo, or goes to black screen but you can still see the volume slider when pressing volume buttons, see the home and back buttons (which do nothing) and hear the lock sound when you press the power button... still always a black screen though.. i guess its possible i knocked the format data button in twrp but im 95% sure i didnt. if i remove twrp and install stock recovery would i be able to get the stock rom working that way? or is there any way to do an OTA update/ fix as i havnt rooted it yet so it should be capable (except i cant boot to rom..) if i hold down all buttons it seems to try to do something... it says emui then goes to 4% then says software install failed: the update package does not exsist. please download the package again... reboot system now..? whats that all about?
ok, so i have found a possible solution but would like confirmation from someone who knows these things first...
i found this tool: Huawei Firmware Finder (Team MT)
link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tools/general/huawei-firmware-finder-team-mt-t3469146
and using this i have found my exact firmware, apparently straight from the official huawei update servers. the firmware number matches exactly, but there is no mention of it being for a huawei p10 lite so not 100% sure its a good idea, but if the whole firmware number matches perfectly and its the only one of its kind it must be the right one surely? and the size is the same as other huawei p10 lite firmwares..
here is the direct link:http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1514/g104/v89953/f2/full/update.zip
please someone else chime in to give me some advice...
is there any risk with flashing roms, or can i always still access twrp recovery to flash a new rom if i brick the phone?
cheers all
ok UPDATE:
i tried the repair file system option in twrp on the data partition just for fun (wrong word, im not having fun..) because i thought this rom was a lost cause..
upon reboot a huawei warning pops up saying the data partition has some serious damage and offers to try a low level format, it finishes successfully then restarts.
no change, still broken, but it offers to do a full format of data due to serious damage.
after restart phone boots fine, and enters setup wizard for first boot etc... perfect.
problem is, i still cant backup the data partition in twrp, still get same error:
createTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255
bacjup failed..??
did i somehow get a brand new phone with a bad flash of a stock rom straight from the manuafacturer? with a slightly corrupted data partition... is there anyway to fix this? or can i assume the rom i downloaded from huaweis servers for my exact firmware is correct and i can use that as a backup in case i need it?
or in case my data is corrupt should i try to install that rom now?
or should i try to reflash twrp first and see if i can get a successful backup?
or should i just forget all this crap now my phone works and go straight to rooting it?
i really need some professional advice here.. lol
clearly i aint no expert
ok, so i noticed the frp was still locked for some reason so using adb, i relocked and unlocked bootloader, now frp is unlocked too, reflashed twrp, wiped dalvik cach/ cache, tried backup again...
no change, still fails on data partition, same error 255...?!
im lost,
close to trying to flash that rom i found...
or at least just rooting already..
OK UPDATE: first the bad news, then the good news:
so i gave up on backing up my data partition, as it was clearly somehow corrupt?...
so i went ahead and rooted my phone, everything was more or less working untill i used apps2sd...
that required several reboots and partitioning my sd card etc, then it said something about needing systemless root and a reboot, i went ahead with that and then my phone started bootlooping again, this time there was no fixing it, i of course tried removing sd card too.. nothing..
so i tried restoring to the rom i found using huawei firmware finder tool, that didnt work, using twrp to install zip, i got error -9? (couldnt find that one on the net..)
tried unzipping and putting update.app in dload folder on root of sd card, then booting to erecovery pressing vol- vol+ and power button, that also failed. now i was stressed near tears, this was the third day of research and trying to fix this... so i searche dhigh and wide, and gave up on stock roms, i figured that a custom rom designed for my chipset (hi6250)
and said to work on a huawei p10 lite then it should at least semi work on my phone, i did more research and the rom creator said to only use his version of TWRP to flash their ROM, so i reflashed to theirs... BIG mistake, if the custom recovery is the only thing you can boot into and the only way to access boot loader, do NOT risk losing it.. i did.. i lost my recovery..
so there for i lost my bootloader, so therefore i lost my ability to use ADB, or connect to pc in any way. i wanted to step in front of a bus at this point... but then there was:
GOOD news:
so i resorted to trying the official recovery roms on XDA for p10 lites, only i had been avoiding them as none of the build/ firmware numbers matched mine at all.. but i went ahead and clicked on the first download, (here is the link to post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10-lite/help/original-service-rom-huawei-p10-lite-t3688097) - you might find a few comments from me near the end there, lol..
anyway , once downloaded i unzipped and just pasted the dload folder straight to sd card and rebooted phone with all three buttons depressed. to my amazement when the huaei erecovery came up it started installing!!!? wow, i tried not to get my hopes up though..
first boot restarted after blue huawei splash logo, second boot went back to erecovery, offered factory reset and wipe cache(so i did), now it boots up perfectly every time like new, everything works! even gave me NZ language options etc, even though my build number didnt match any of those above, its still worked and even better it still shows all the correct information under about phone.
my build number was: WAS-LX2C706B170
so i can confirm it works for nz huawei p10 lites with 4gb ram and dual sim and WAS-LX2 builds
hope this helps someone else out there like me

update copy
Hi was wondering if you have a copy of the update you used as it is near impossible to get from the link on the other thread. Another Kiwi with a bricked phone.
All good, after 4 hours it finally downloaded. I will keep a copy in case anyone needs it. WAS-LX2

RNE-L21C432 sort of bricked, tried pretty much every method

Hi, I've been fiddling around to fix my RNE-L21C432 after I managed to do some things wrong with it.
What I tried to do:
I tried to install LineageOS from the thread in this forum. I downloaded a couple of TWRP recoveries and tried them all - no avail.
So I read I also needed to delete /system. So I was like, hell, I just delete everything including /vendor and /oeminfo.
And then the fun started... I managed to install OpenKirin's LineageOS. The install whent fairly okay, but the software is buggy, the bluetooth doesn't work, the icons were small, the system UI kept crashing regularly and performance was bad overall.
So, back to stock EMUI I thought. Ha was I wrong. I followed KingOfMezi's guide to restore the original ROM.
It all went fine in the first couple of minutes. But, oh wait, there goes the bluetooth again. And as soon as I unlocked the phone, the system UI crashes, it restarts, the Play Store is buggy as hell. So back to the working table I thought!
I used HWOTA (boots to eRecovery only to show an error which is unresponsive after all) , Huawei's Multi Tool (also gives errors when trying to restore stuff), HiSuite (can't find phone) and even Huawei's stock recovery can't be used anymore (can't click on any of the buttons to download recovery, factory resets fail,...).
This phone has been the most annoying ever to root and to install ROMs. My old Galaxy S2 and Oneplus One were great.
TL;DR is there a way to restore this device completely to stock, as deep as it goes?
Edit: I tried HuRUpdater to install the 3 update.zip files and finally I got my phone working again.
Sorry for you wasting your time if you read this

Yeah, don't delete /vendor if you want to flash Treble. Treble only uses system, if you wipe vendor stuff will break.
