Objectively looking at the specs, the HTC 10 has a bit bigger battery ( 3000 mAh compared to 2650 mAh of the Moto Z but the Moto Z is only 5.2mm thin and supports various mods, one of which is the battery mod line ) and in the GSMArena sample pics, the Moto Z produces a bit sharper images.
And in general, at least for me, the Moto Z looks better.
HTC was one of the good looking snobs among smartphone manufacturers but now they're that deformed incest child which is still alive because some people formed emotional bonds to it or somehow found beauty in it.
Don't get me wrong, the Moto Z has some small flaws but it looks and works great, at least for me ( I usually change my phones in intervals of 6 months or less but I bought the Moto Z in August 2017 and I'm still using it ) .
The only concern you could have is battery life expectancy but people say you can replace it with the warranty if it dies on you so that one is kinda solved.
The screen is excellent, the UI and games are snappy and you can taste even Android P thanks to our great dev.
I wouldn't sell this phone even if someone offered me the 400$ I paid for it.
If you're willing to tinker with it, the Moto Z is a phone with huge potential.

[q] xperia z2 vs lg g3

Hi guys!!!!!I have a galaxy ace 2 and an xperia tablet z,but now its time to upgrade my phone...
Im thinking the z2 and the g3.if i put it side by side i would choose the z2 for these features
1 water proof and dust proof
2 front speakers
3 bigger battery
and of course the 3 gb ram
the experience i have from my tablet is perfect, never had a problem and has a huuuuuuge battery (6000mha)
the only thing that put me into thoughts is that everyone are saying about the poor service of sony and that is a shi**y company
.I dont see that on my tablet but i feel that i must ask you what do you think about these two phones now that they are in our hands
do you have any problems about z2? what do you think?
No problems with Z2 here, I had same dilemma I bought the Z2 over G3 because of the RAM, real world battery performance seems much better due to larger battery and no 4k screen and camera.
For me, majority of customer service are sh**tty they will try evade from warranty repair or replacement but in the case of there is a money involved im pretty sure you will be entertained. Anyway for me, I don't judge based on customer service but the product itself and updates of software. So for me, z2 is much more reliable and better than others cause of overall aesthetics, usefulness of application such as walkman, camera and movies, water resistant my how I loved this feature, and lastly the great battery life. The wishlist only I have is a better front facing camera. Qhd is just a gimmick for me I did compare from z2 and its not a really big difference to compromise the battery life. Rather had a great battery life than a little difference of display quality. I hope sony doesn't bring that qhd from z4 and unless they dont compromised size and battery.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
Z2 all the way
Great design, best battery life, good performance and of course the waterproof!!!
g3 is overrated with qHD and bigger screen!!!
what about the warming problem that many say? Any lag problem? Have you had any software upgrade?
And the last thing that im really curius, why the other brands dont make a 3 gb ram phones?(except the big and pricy G3)
in my eyes the z2 even though it is close to 1 year old phone,is equal than the g3
last question(i promise) if i take the z2 is it possible to have 3 years more with the latest firmwares(custom roms) etc
and will it be possible to run the future apps?
Ive personaly compared those 2 and i can say that the camera of the G3 is better than the Z2 (z2 makes better daylight ones tho). 2 Gb of RAM can still handle everything and it will be like that for a long time (3Gb are a showoff for now). The screen of the G3 is way better and we know why , Just the battery backup is abit worse for the G3. For videos Z2 also wins. With a mod G3 can reproduce 60fps of 1920x.. and its still laggy. I personaly can't talk about design..Z2 wins in every aspect + the waterproofness aswell as you mentioned.Speakers of Z2 are better also. Its up to you.LG have a vry friendly interface with good stuff in it and ofcourse a infrared and a vry helpful buttons on its back.
Thank you guys, I'm probably going for the z2, I ll try to watch more reviews but I think that the xperia is going to be my next phone.... Thanks again

Shall I buy Z2 or Z3+ ??

Guys, would you help me deciding between both phones? I am coming from Xperia SP
- Z2: What I like:
Better design -for me-, better price, larger developmental community/more better future custom roms, larger battery..
or
- Z3 Plus: What I like:
Better front Camera/Dual Sim/more predictable official updates/better waterproofness/more over-heating issues..
I don't like Z3 ://
you may help me If stated new or neglected something in the comparison like: the front cameras don't differ too much, or Z3+ is not expected to receive Android N or expected to grow large custom roms community like Z2 (I don't think so) etc..
Thanks a lot ))
I think that the most important is the price. It should be your main argument.
After that comes everything else.
To be honest front camera on z2 isn't too good, a lot of noise mostly in darker light conditions.
Z2 comes with (great) headphones which is a big +
Temperature, idk. if you do care about it then don't choose z3+
The flaps may be a pretty important argument. On z2 you've got 2 flaps = 2 times bigger risk that water gets in.
The choice is your, but for me Xperia Z2 is the most functional phone I've ever had (and I would upgrade to z3+ if it didn't cost 2x so much as z2, because it's not worth it)
I would go for the z2.
Much cheaper and isn't really plagued by overheating issues even when gaming, while the z3+ is known for these issues because of it's snapdragon 810, plus it's specs are not really outdated to be honest
Thanks a lot ) here I found an offer for Z3+ that it is not that expensive as x2 price the Z2 at all
That's what made me think about it .. but now I am favoring the Z2 over Z3/Z3+, but now after more searching .. the LG G4 came up with another offer in the same market lol ://
Its camera is amazing but its battery is toooo bad .. do you have any idea about it ? I don't think it deserves taking a risk .. what do you think ??
Yes, that's what I am thinking about .. and the one thing remaining is .. to hope that it will receive a decent Android M Support
Lg. Hmm. I've had g2 and it was pretty good, especially the screen to size ratio and it's quality.
Xperia devices offer waterproofness, good headphones and you can use it with a pencil
If you don't care about these things you may take the g4. 3000mAh also isn't so bad.
But remember that Lg devices get faster cheap in case you would like to sell it someday.
oh, I wasn't paying attension for that
Well, I think I am going to get Z2 )
Thanks a lot for your time )

Moving from Z1 compact to Z5 compact? . . . . or what?

I decided to change mi phone (Z1 compact), but I'm very exigent and the rest of the "mini" models are extremely poor in specs, build quality, well in everything. I have to mention that my gadgets lives in an Android/Windows ecosystem.
IMO the models to choose would be the Z5 compact or Z3 compact. But It's because I don't know if there are better models on sale or coming.
I'll list the technologies I'm interested in.
Longest battery life
IPXX Certification
Magnetic/fast charging
Aptx/High-res Audio codecs
5 poles audio jack
Memory card support
ac WiFi/ LTE cat 6
FullHD Camera + the best focus at night
The fastest mobile GPU available
Mini/Compact body desing
What's your suggestion??
Thanks.

Bro, just get the Z5 compact......unless if you are picky on the design and pricey, then get the Z3 compact
Okay
So guys are you saying that there are not another devices with those features??
In a positive way, I'm right with my idea.
In a negative way, the rest of the manufactures dissapointed me :'(

That's true at this moment. The manufacturers are all looking for the big screens.[emoji174]

I went from Google Nexus 5 to z5c because I felt I wanted a smaller phone. Even though the difference is not that big, it feels a lot smaller and looks a lot better.
To answer your question, I found z5c to be one of the only small phones compared to all other phones out there. It feels good in my hand, I can reach the whole screen and it is very good looking. The size is the same as z3c but with better specs and new design on the outside. If the price is a big deal, go with z3c. If not, go with z5c. It is about the same size as iPhone 5s, slightly thicker. Holding it in my hand, I recommend it. Keep in mind that I got it this Monday, I have only had it for two days. Wait a few weeks until all the cons have appeared.
Only drawback so far, the placed the volume button at a very awkward location, below the lock button..
Unfortunately, the Z5 compact is the only hi-end (2015) Android phone with small size. Your other 2015 option is the iPhone 6S but it has a totally different OS as you probably know.
Other old options are:
Z3 compact: still a good phone, still supported, not too old.
Moto X 2013: small with excellent grip and battery life, awesome phone, but I think it's no longed maintained.

Yeah, I read that about the volume button position. But, Ok, it's nothing really severe.
I'm coming from a Nexus 5 too. Do you feel the camera better or worse? (I really like the HDR+ quality of the Nexus 5).
I have moved from Z3c into Z5c and I can't complain. The only issue i have is its little but slippy but my old iPhone was that too.
Build quality is very good as well as screen and speakers (which are btw louder than in Z3c)
New UI looks more vanilla which if you are Nexus fan a good think (I am )
I havent tested camera yet nor battery life but it drops around 4% in 7 hours standby (considering push emails, bt on)

I recently sold an unlocked Moto X 2013 and it had Lollipop on it. I doubt it will get updated again but it was good to get it to 5.1.
About z5c vs nexus 5 camera: I can't compare because after I dropped my nexus, the camera became useless. It could not focus anymore.

What's your reasoning for choosing the Z over the Z play?

Screen, Nougat, processor, Daydream, etc? I currently have the Z but keep seeing how people are loving the Z play even more.
Battery. I'm unable to even discharge my Moto Z in a full day of use, how could I discharge the Play?
Seriously... speed and height.
Daydream VR
The VZW Z was $120 with no contract and no trade-in. Got four of them to replacing the aging phones of family members.
Locked bootloader is a huge negative for sure, but with the exception of AdAway, I find myself less concerned with root and custom ROMs given how close to vanilla the Moto is.
If someone figures out how to unlock it, I'll do it without a second thought, but at $120 the specs make it a no-brainer over the Z Play and well worth the risk of being stuck with a locked bootloader (for me).
It's thin and light
Hardware, software (nougat), thickness, the dark frame, the aluminium cover.
Hey guys. I've just gone through this so I thought I'd add my $0.02.
I went into a local shop and got some hands on tune with both of these. Honestly, with normal use I was pretty tough to tell the difference. Even the screens were close enough for that to not be an issue.
In the hand, the play felt better to me. The regular Z was almost too thin and the edges felt quite sharp.
Ultimately, I went with the regular Z and here are my reasons in order of importance to me:
1. Camera
Looking at the pictures taken I that shop there was a marked difference between the two. This may have been exacerbated my the play's lower res screen but the photos taken indoors were more passable to me.
2. Specs
Even though the play was just as smooth navigating Android, my assumption is that the SD 820 in the Z will give it more longevity.
3. Thickness
I have the speaker, camera and battery moto mods. The Z feels much better in the hand with mods installed than the play. Those couple of mm do make a difference.
4. Price
Over here in Aus, there's $300 difference between the play and the Z retail. However, I actually bought my Z on Expansys during a sale for $629 with free shipping. The play was $489 and for me the extra $$$ is comfortably justified.
I still dig the play though. I've had back of my GS7 and even though the GS7 camera is KILLER, I'd probably still pick the okay over it.
That is all, hope that helps anyone else tossing up between the two.
Play camera is considered better. Unless you're in love with the form factor of the Z I don't see it.

Considered better by who? I think you'd be pressed to find even one review which would support this claim.
Play has more megapixel, sure. But it also has a narrower aperture lens so it's low light performance is always going to produce shots with now noise and less detai.
There's much more to a camera than a sensor. Case in point: Google pixel and Xiaomi Mi5s. Exact same sensor but have you heard anyone talking about the Xiaomi being the best smartphone camera money can buy? There's a reason for that.
I'm not intending to be rude here but for real... if you're going to tout the Play as having a better camera then you need a pretty solid basis for it considering every single review of the Play I came across described the camera as just passable.
Sent from my SM-G930F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Both Anandtech' and DXO basically say the Z Play has the better camera. The shots I've seen seem to confirm that. Where are the reviews you refer to that compare them DIRECTLY? A whole lot of vitriole in that post.
Lightweight and thin, I can barely feel it in my pocket. I get 5h+ screentime with the combination of Greenify, Lux AB and another app I forget; that schedules system things around the phones hibernation.
Considering that Nougat recently got pushed for the Z Play, it was noted that Daydream VR is not included in the update because of the Z Play's low resolution and less powerful Snapdragon 635 processor. I guess I'm glad I spent the extra few bucks to get the Z instead.
I was going to get the Play, but my carrier stopped offering it, so around here it was about $400 to buy one from the classifieds. Mostly just wanted the bigger battery.
So I got the Z for zero down as an upgrade with my carrier instead. And really, the battery has surprised me. I'm getting 5 to 6 hours screen on time, and the phone charges so fast anyway. So I'm glad I got the Z now. The camera has been a nice surprise too, compared to phones I've previously had.
This is my 3rd Moto. I've had the original X and the N6 also. Have loved all my moto phones.
Still getting the battery mod soon though.

Are you with Koodo? I'm with Koodo and they did indeed just stop carrying the Z Play, just when I was thinking of upgrading to it from the X Play I was wondering whether the "regular" Z might be my next choice, and it just may be...

Well, the Z is the better device. No doubt. Minus a headphone jack and the Play has a bigger battery.
The lack of headphone jack is definitely a nuisance. Have to be charged up before watching stuff, or listening to a lot of music. There's Bluetooth headphones out there though too.
The battery life surprised me, not much worse than my oneplus-one, or N6, but not stellar of course. I just got the incipio battery mod, so that solves that. Lol. It's bulkier, but not too crazy.
So it was cash for a play, probably used, or zero for the Z on a two year contract. I'm happy with what I got though.
I'm with bell. Oh, and it's the best camera I've had on a phone so far. I don't expect pics like an actual camera, so this meets my expectations for sure. :good:
Great specs, but mostly due to how thin and sexy it looks. Battery is no big deal to me these days because quick charge is fabulous...

Is the Moto Z worth buying right now?

I have a pretty tight budget and I have the choice between an upgrade to the Moto X and Xperia XZS
The Moto X still has a warranty and the JBL module so I'm just curious of what actual Z users feel ?
What?
Moto X or Moto Z, choose what you're talking about.
No, it's not. Sure it has kinda good specs for the low price, but that low battery capacity is dragging the whole package down. Only after half a year my friends Moto Z's battery capacity already seems a lot worse than it did before. There is no denying that the battery is just not enough if you're not willing to use these bulky and expensive battery mods. Only upside is that it charges fast. I feel like there are a lot of better contenders out there for the tight budget.
If you can get a good deal it's a nice phone. It's easy to flash custom ROMs.
Thanks for the replies guys! But SLR I'm in the exam period. I got the Z, in many ways I feel it's better than my destroyed LG G6, the screen is better.
Build is awesome and front camera is a wows my friends who use iPhones. Except the battery sucks **** and lack of the headphone jack.
The JBL mod is great and I plan on getting the Incpio battery mod.. If the Z2 Force will be getting Treble support! Because I want to stick to the Z line.
None of the current Z/Z2 models will be getting official Treble support. I think someone has added Treble to a Z with Lineage. I believe there's a thread on /r/moto_z about that.
