Change Default SMS Messaging App - Oppo Realme 1 Questions & Answers

Can anyone tell me how i can change the default SMS/Messaging app to , lets say TrueCaller's.
I keep changing it to TrueCaller & it keeps reverting back.
Anyways to get this sorted...
Have managed to sort out many other issues... but cant figure this out.

Another issue cropped up.
Now, i have made TrueCaller as my default Messaging App. But i cant use banking apps till i dont switch it back to the default Colour OS Messaging APP.
(See attached) - So now, i can never change my default messaging app ???
Really Pathetic !!!

Try This Settings > Security > Payment Protection and Disable payment Protection for your bank in there

Thanks. I had got this same thing from another person as well and tried it last night.
This seems to work perfectly well with banking apps.
Now to try and solve the issue of making true caller a default sms/messaging app.
True caller does not show in the list of default app settings.. true caller can be made the default calling app but not the messaging app... Wierdly.

First download the App that you want as the default. Now go to settings and scroll down to"App Management" and click it. Now at the top of the page you will see "Change App default". Click that and you will see the list of all Apps on your phone. Click the app which you want as default and change it there.

Sms apps doesn't show in app defaults.. Moreover if u change it.. When u get a new msg it automatically resets app default to their stock sms app

Open the app you want to set as default sms and select "change" option from the box that pops (refer screenshot below)
SCREENSHOT
Turn off payment protect option from settings to stop auto switching to default app

I have tried payment security thing. Doesn't work..

only default messages app listed in the default app.
no matter what sms app you install it never gets listed in the app management > default app management > messages . only system default messages app is listed there. So it does not change. If they had SMS backup . I would gladly use it . But their message app is plain vanilla. Microsoft SMS organizer is one of the best for India specific users . Tried installing a random messaging app from oppo store as well . just to check if they recognize messaging apps from their own store . But no . the default app management still is the same.
Just for a test I downloaded , yandex launcher and it shows in the app management > default app management > homescreen and lets me change it to yandex . gives a warning though. I can change browser , homescreen , But after 10 mins. homescreen reverts to default system homescreen. The chrome browser setting is still there though . So browser can be changed it seems. Trying to figure out how we can change SMS.
ColorOS version :- v5.0
Android :- 8.1
VErsion :- CPH1859EX_11_A.16_180613
ALL these vendors just want to restrict our abilities to use any and every app in the name of security .

Coloros is very bad. Will never buy Oppo again just because of OS

GO SMS Pro - Default Enter App View...

I'm enjoying go sms pro. But I do have one gripe. In the default messaging app, no matter where I'm at in the app (settings, compose, group messages) and I exit/hit home button. When I re-enter the app, I'm viewing my messages by default..
Go sms pro doesnt do this. If I'm in settings and I hit the home screen, then re-enter the app, I'm viewing settings again.. I want to view messages by default. I dont want to have to find my messages.. Any solutions?

This things must be reported to Go developers.
I have the same issue. You are in private box, you hit home screen or lock the phone. When you go back to app. Private box will be there. Which should not be happen and ask password.
So it's some thing an open issue.
I will 3rd the complaint. Its the only thing I dislike about go sms.

Report it guys, Its a serious security concern, although its not very difficult for them to solve this issue, its the way they are handling multitasking. I am not a GoSMS user otherwise I would have reported myself.
I have reported this issue with a link to this thread to Go Team. Let's see if they consider it to fix.

And it's still not fixed. I'm seriously considering moving to some other messaging app because this is really annoying. Especially, if you have encrypted conversation and it shows you the numpad instead of list of messages when you open the app.

I agree its still not fixed.
The go team focuses on graphical improvements on their apps, not usability improvements.
Plus they killed Go Backup by trying to make it a paid app.
Apparently the newest stock messaging app from Android is going to have a full theming ability. So go sms might be on its last legs for me.

Default messaging app not working properly, how to make third-party default?

So, the messaging app hasn't been working since I got my phone. Its a GSM razr maxx. When I create a new sms, and go to enter the contact name in, nothing happens-- I don't see any contacts come up. Even if I enter a phone number or name from my phone book, it says my entry was invalid.
Is there anyway to make another 3rd party app my default messaging app and have it appear on my lock screen?

I figured out why my contacts weren't showing up when entering contacts in a new message. Some stupid glitch in my "people" app. Under "contacts to display", nothing was checked under custom. Even though a custom view was NOT selected (all contacts was), this made it so nothing would come up in my messaging app (although my contacts displayed in chomp & my dialer just fine).
Although your advice will still come in handy because chomp is a lot better than the default app!
Haha .. Lolz ...
Thanks !!
Well that didn't work. When I send a message in my default app, it doesn't ask me to send in chomp sms.

I found a way to get it to work, using the same idea as what you suggested. After trying a third-party app to make chomp my default (didn't work), I thought of doing it this way.
1. Go to "people" app
2. Send message through people app
3. Select chomp to send message, and check the box to make it default.
A lot of people on other forums are saying to disable the default text messaging app. Maybe this works with other SMS apps, but not chomp. When I did this I could not receive texts. Probably because chomp works in conjunction with the default app.
Also, I did read that other SMS apps have an option within the app to make it default. Chomp should add this to make it easier. I did try a 3rd party app that controlled what apps are default, but it didn't work.
Well, now I am having this issue AGAIN. I tried out a few different sms apps to see what I liked best and upon reinstalling chomp I can not get it back on my lock screen no matter what I do... Making it the default app no longer works. Ugh so frustrating. I

SMS/MMS Settings

Hi. Does anybody know how to change SMS/MMS settings in Honor 5X? I'm on Marshmallow 6.0.1 and I cannot find in the Messaging app
settings for basic things. For example, encoding for SMS (i.e GSM 7-bit.) Also, for some reason I started to get a warning about "fees" when
I try to sent a SMS and then when I check my account at my mobile carrier, texts sent appear like MMS type instead of SMS.
Any input is welcome. Thanks, guys.

Yes, Menu shows Favorites, Emergency Alerts, Harrassment Filter, and Settings.
However, browsing all of them don't provide the options I'm looking for.
On, Lollipop, there were some at Settings > Advanced but now on Marshmallow they removed them (e.g. Group MMS.)

I dint had any issues with g messenger till now..its the best
Google Messenger FTW.
No encoding setting even on lolipop that I recall, settings>apps>more>messaging .
Marshmellow removed a huge amount of important setings and ability use add-on app advanced settings and was a reason I didn't like the so called upgrade as downgrade in many ways.
Biggest issue with huawei is weak firmware and inability to send out fixes on major weak areas .

Question List of applications that can be uninstalled with adb commands

Can we post here the list of safe apps to uninstall with ADB commands?
I just downloaded APK Extractor from the Play Store - I looked for any logos of the apps I would never use and removed them. I can't list every single one as they're all gone now. I only had an issue uninstalling the SMS messaging app. Had to reinstall that one as the system automatically defaults to it. Without it installed, I wasn't getting any texts coming through. Lame!
Great info !
Then uninstal chinese apps is easy and without risk with Apk Extractor ?
Only keep the original sms app and choose an other that we choice for Message (for me it's Signal).

I don't think any messaging apps will work (Google Messages, Signal, etc.) because the Chinese ROM will force default to Oppo Messaging as soon as you receive an SMS/MMS.

How do you mean Oppo forces the official app Mail? It doesn't for me?
I've been using Blackberry Inbox for mail, and it works great and it is the default mail app on my Find N. I've actually uninstalled the official app (just using the normal app uninstall, not adb). So it doesn't force a different mail app for me, and in fact the official mail app is no longer on the phone.
I try now to uninstal official app Mail but in default app for mail it was already AquaMail but no notification for AquaMail ...

I must admit, I have notifications turned off for Blackberry Inbox, as I find mail notifications annoying (as I get too many), and I check my mail regularly anyhow. But you should get mail notifications if you make sure that AquaMail is one of the 5 apps you allow to auto startup, allow it to run in the background, and you turn off battery optimization for the app. Another tip would be to pin the app in task view so that when the memory is cleaned it stays in memory.

I haven't tried as I'm fine using the stock SMS/MMS app, as I don't use SMS/MMS much (mostly Whatsapp/Wechat/Telegram, etc. these days). As I've said somewhere else, I usually try not to fight a new phone, but work with it, and the stock messages app works quite well, and has nice features like tap to fill when you receive a auth code, etc.
There is a setting to change the default messaging app; but others have had problems trying to use another messaging app or dialer/phone app as default (I assume did try setting the default to something else) and apparently it resets to the system default? Worth a go though.
Failing that, you could probably get it working using the same method that the community got the Nova Launcher working (combination of adb and tasker) -

Again, sorry I haven't tried that, as I don't use group SMS/MMS messaging; I use Whatsapp/Wechat/Telegram for that type of group messaging. In the UK MMS messages are usually an additional (sometimes expensive) cost, and so it has never really taken off here as far as I'm aware; and everyone I know uses Whatsapp, etc. for that kind of thing.
I ended up disable-user the following apks :
package:com.coloros.karaoke

com.opos.ads
com.coloros.assistantscreen
com.heytap.browser
com.heytap.pictorial
com.heytap.smarthome
com.coloros.favorite
com.oplus.safecenter
The preinstalled music, video, reader, wallet and browser are pretty much just adware, get rid of them as quick as possible
These security apk are forcing you to input oppo account password to install apk, but please keep in mind, disable or uninstall them all-together: com.oplus.vip(yes it's related to apk installation), com.oplus.appdetail, com.coloros.securityguard, com.coloros.phonemanager, they are calling each-other when you install apps, by just removing some of them, you are risking breaking apk installer functionality, but I've tested after get ride of them, all non-sense just disappeared
And I personally will never use it's build-in password manager, voice assistant, float ball navigator, cloud service, file manager and baidu input so I disabled them, keep those you want
One thing, adb can't disable or uninstall built-in app store, and in some situation, I use it to install some Chinese specific apps.

You don't delete them in the app. You have to delete them using a command prompt on your PC. The app just tells you the package name of each app so you know what to delete.
