Desktop Mode for M5 8.4? - Huawei MediaPad M5 Questions & Answers

Hello!! Does anyone know if it's possible to enable Desktop mode for the M5 8.4?
I've tried searching around and can't find any info on this.
Thanks!

I would like to know too. Anyone???

I do not know about the original Desktop-Mode (which is not too cool - believe me), but Leena Launcher (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8t3U1yhImY) might be for you?

Seems like the development has stopped since last year.
Any other similar solutions that are still in active development?

Android on Touch Pro, Viable Yet?

It has been quite some time since the HTC touch pro came and since the very beginning there was talk about running android on it. I mean I remember a month after the Touch Pro came out someone had Android running on it, although it was just a proof of concept and didn't have touch or anything working.
So how has is been coming? Is Android finally a viable option for the Touch Pro?
I mean I would love to try android on my phone, as long as it works with bluetooth and the hardware buttons...that's really all I need. I can manage without wifi, speaker, etc.

Sorry I didn't know about the wiki and I did do a search for android in the ROM development forum and didn't come up with much.
But I was just wondering what kind of experiences people have had with it and wether it has been working smoothly.
www.connect-utb.com
there you'll get newest android roms for diamond and touch pro

A) link is broken... please fix!!
link is fine, but it seems like connect utb is down. Give them until tommorow
Can somebody help me with a weird problem?
Everything boots up just fine, but when I follow the how-to for my mobile networking my hardware keys(home, back, dial & disconnect) won't work!
Does anyone have a solution for that?
edit: it seems to be that the home and dial key are also left and the back and disconnect key are acting like a right key
thx in advance!
You asked for an opinion right?
I did try the android ports, even tried the one that's more recent but I didn't find them usable. They're too complicated and things don't work as expected. Maybe in time they will create a usable port for the touch pro but by then I will want to change my phone...I'm considering that right now too...
BUT. Some quality work has been done and it is a really cool experience. I appreciate all the work that has been put into that project.

A Thank you and a couple of questions...

First off, I am sure this board has been swarmed with Wooters who had tons of questions, and for that I say thank you very much for the guides. I was able to install Vegan-Tab simply and easily to my tablet and it is running smooth.
I have a couple of questions that I wanted to see if mabye anyone knew the answers to:
First, the start menu (Phone/Apps/Web)- Does anyone have an ways to change this? Would Launcher Pro Plus work on this?
Second, does anyone know of a profile program for multiple users. Until I by the girlfriend a tab (now that she is addicted to Angry Birds) I wanted to know if there was a way we could separate email/facebook/etc with profiles.
Thanks in advance,
Sean
Launcher pro works amazingly. The Widgets are the best and look really good on the Gtab.

Anyone able to get a third party launcher on this? (pls, only ppl with phone answer)

Anyone here manage to get a third party launcher on the find X? I am so annoyed that, Oppo, like Vivo, made the process just about impossible it seems. On the Vivo NEX, at least you just need to sign up for a vivo account. But on the find X, even with an Oppo account I can't get nova on.
The part in settings where it allows you to pick default launcher is simply grayed out.
Please, only people who have the Find X respond to this. On the Vivo NEX thread I got so tired of people who didn't yet have the phone argue with me that "putting nova on the NEX was possible without an account", all because they were able to do it on like an older Vivo. I am aware that nova runs fine on the Oppo R15 Pro, but on the find X, something is blocking it.
You need to either use the hide lookscreen method with the use of oneplus gestures (to set the gesture to open nova) this method in the forums or you need to remove the original launcher by adb method also in the forums.
Either way you need to use adb
I tried both and I am typing this on my oppo x

If you have the version with the Chinese firmware, read this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/find-X/how-to/guide-adb-oppo-x-apps-safe-to-uninstall-t3818165
You can use Nova launcher without it being the default, simply tap the icon to go to it,as you would any other app.
For most, that's not acceptable,so,you're gonna have to choose to live with it as-is,or,follow the steps/links that I posted above.

Definitely not great but thanks for your help.
Lovely phone but oppo need to rethink strategy if they want global success. Vivo have the balance right and customer services respond very quickly.
I will probably not but oppo again due to restrictions.

Has anyone tried to hack the FiiO M6?

Hello. I just got this neat little music player which runs Android, but it will only install apks from a select white list. While it does what I bought it for, it would be nice to run some obscure simple apps not on the list like an iPod protocol simulator.
Anyone heard of anyone FiiO hacking?
Would be nice...
Hey there... I’m also keen to hear about this so let me know if you find anything.
I just think it could run better and I’d love something as simple as tapping the screen to wake the screen.
They have more or less said no more updates on their website. I really like it but I wish I did a bit more research as it’s not going to get much support.
Oh and a damn podcast app.
I've now come across a problem which, so far as I can tell, can only be solved by rooting the device (namely a very useful app which does NOT have an English version).
This is otherwise a very useful device and the lack of a rootkit is very annoying
Found this:
You can go to "Settings -> General -> About device" and tap 7 times on 'Kernel version' to remove the limitation, and then reboot the player. After that you will be able to install any third-party apps.

install older version of mi browser on miui 11??

hello,
am on miui 11.0.5.0 global and was able to remove the stock mi browser(v10.....etc).
am trying to install an older version of mi browser that had better features than newer versions , it installs but keeps closing everytime i open it!
is there any workaround to make it work?
I know I'm not answering your question.
But why exactly do you prefer to use a browser filled with ads and junk?

I was wondering that too
Poco launcher gives you a neat way of hiding those bits of xiaomi scurf that you can't uninstall - why not just do that and browse with Iron or something better?

I never said i cant uninstall it.....read reply #4
Regardless of ads or not, why do you still insist on using a inferior browser when there are so many others out there that do a better job.

i already mentioned the cause above!......the old version am talking about has a certain feature that isnt working anymore in new versions!.
All you mention is "the feature I'm looking for" or the "cause I'm looking for"
There's no direct mention or explanation of what you're looking for. Maybe more people will help you if you choose to explain a bit more rather than shut down every comment that's trying to help you.

the reason for posting this topic is to get help regarding running an older version of miui browser that installs but closes everytime i open in oreo/pie/q ......it runs fine on other android phones on nougat!!.
specifying the feature thats working on this old browser and not working on recent versions wont help coz poeple who "try to help" would simply recommend using other newer versions or even different browsers!!
if i wanted to shut comments ....i would have simply ignored any replies without a direct solution!!.
Okay, so you know how it works in the software world. Nobody codes everything from scratch. What we do is build upon the work of others to get what we want. Your previous browser would have been built with various libraries that it hooks into to provide different functionality. Now a new one has come out which was installed on your fone and this is using later versions of the libraries and possibly some APIs may have been dropped. So you're trying to use the old browser with the new libraries and it's entirely possible that the APIs/ABIs it needs are no longer available. So you're SOL. You're going to have to run your browser in debug mode to see what's wrong. I hope it works out for you.
