So, I was out yesterday with my backpack, me and my friends were playing basketball and my phone was in said backpack. It started raining, I thought the backpack was under an overhang, but it turned out I was wrong and it was wet. I haven't seen any wetness on the phone itself and everything works perfectly fine, but should I be worried that there may be water inside?

Yeah, the phone itself is working perfectly fine - the buttons, ports, touch screen, fingerprint scanner, etc. There is no visible damage. I'm only scared that there may be water inside it and if I need to take it for repairing, they may not accept it. Will rice remove any potential water inside the phone?

If the phone was turned on while it got wet and it works, you should not need to be worried.
Yes, rice is the most basic way to get rid of moisture inside a phone. Turn it off and set it overnight in a jar filled with rice.

Ok so I accidently bumped my fence which had my phone on it which had a pot of water next to it. Then my phone dropped in it and i pulled it out as quickly as possible and took out the battery. FYI: My phone was still working underwater. HUGE MISTAKE. I popped in my battery to see which things worked and etc and also when i booted my phone back up the battery dropped 20%. Then i took out the battery, sim card, and sd card and let it dry in the sun. My camera is all foggy and stuff now. Can anyone help me fix my camera, speaker and battery?

If you do then it is covered. Water damage is specifically mentioned as covered.
If not . . . hmm, since the dot is still white you might still have a chance. Usually there is more than one though. The one near the battery is for a quick spot check, often there is also one inside for confirmation. Provided everything is ok, and it is still under warranty, maybe removing all signs of water (water marks, fog, ect.) and then attempting warranty fulfillment MIGHT work.

If you want, but from the several times here that I have seen where ppl send in their rooted Vibrants for warranty repair (usually GPS), it does not seem as if T-Mobile/Samsung really give a d4mn.
One word for you ...rice. put your phone in a bag of rice for 24 hours and don't touch it. After that take it out and clean it all up, put your battery back in and it should work perfect.
I actually washed my wife's phone and this worked. Hope this helps

It absorbs humidity.
By the way, in the future don't put the battery back in until you've let everything dry as long as possible. Any water could short circuit the phone if you put the battery back in.
I would think also about very detailed disassembling and let dry very very well for long time before trying powering the phone.
alcohol is good for wiping off some certain parts but it can break the screen seal

Depending on your own morals, you could probably still get a warranty replacement after the water inside dries out. T-Mobile won't open the device up to check for internal water damage most likely, so if your sticker is white then you should be fine.
And FYI, bleach on a Q-Tip will turn all red water damage stickers white again.
I put my vibrant/battery in rice for 24 hours exactly and now everything works perfectly!

awesome DUDE i have dropped my vibrant at least three times in water and what can i say THIS THING IS a beast my microphone doesnt work anymore but ehhh small price to pay actually does anyone know where i can find a replacement mic ive looked everywhere

Don't waste your time with bleach and q-tip, just ask for the replacement and when it comes, take off the new sticker with a hair dryer, 10 seconds or so, and tweezers. Then replace the water damaged one with the new one. Just like operation.
Good morning everyone. This morning was not a good morning for me, as I was feeding and watering my dog my phone slipped out of my jacket pocket and dropped into the dogs water bowl. It was in the water for less than a second, initially everything seemed fine there was barely any water behind the battery cover so I dried all that out and shook the phone to make sure there was no water in it's ports. Then shortly after that its USB port started going wonky(started acting like I was connecting USB cable and disconnecting it over and over), and my touch buttons at bottom of screen seem to stop working which makes doing anything damn near impossible. The USB plug seems to work as I've got it plugged up and its charging fine, but now my PC says USB unrecognized device. What I want to know is will these things work themselves out, is there something I can do to help them, or am I screwed?

It is more then likely ruined. When ever a phone gets wet you should immediately remove the battery and put the phone In A large bag of rice for 3 days. No less then 72 hours and you have a very good shot at being OK. For phones that have been completely submerged and are water logged I would do 3 days of rice and then a quick dip In rubbing alcohol and then another day of rice. The alcohol prevents corrosion on the electrical solder connections. I hope you have insurance. You can try the rice now but since you supplied voltage to a wet circuit the damage is done. O and when I say a quick dip in alcohol I mean remove the screen and only dip the circuit board.

Thanks for the reply, but I think I got lucky. My USB port has stopped acting up and I was actually able to see contents of my phone thru the pc. Also my buttons are working fine again maybe there was a slight bit of water crossing circuits and it finally dried up.

Arent you also supposed to put it in the sun, so it heats up and evaporates the water from inside the phone and then the rice absorbs it... or is that old news and overkill?

The sun only dry the outside part of the device. There will be moisure inside device (sometime) that will stay for a while. In order to get rid of the moisure from the inside of the device (if it is excessive water got in) is to use the rice.
In this case it might be excessive and overkill (since the device still works). But then I have mentioned that if next time. Sorry that I didn't indicated that if the device won't come on after sun drying, then use this method...

I think you misunderstood him... he's not saying put the phone in the sun, he's saying put the bowl of rice with the phone in it in the sun. That supplies heat which facilitates the process of water evaporating. I wouldn't leave it in direct sunlight though, just in a warm place near a window maybe.

When mine fell in a cup of water, I put it in a bowl of rice, and then put the bowl over a scentsy warmer. The small light bulb in the warmer gently heated the bowl, without getting it too hot.

I just had my phone "waterproofed" by a company last week, just in case. A friend of mine demonstrated the effectiveness on his iphone 4 and I instantly wanted to have it too as I use my phone as a GPS unit on my motorcycle. A few phones ago I tried the rice rescue method, but after a couple of days the rice caked up around the device and was a bother to try to chip away. Later, someone pointed out that I should not have cooked the rice.
I dropped plenty of phones in different liquids.

and the rice trick had always worked for these expect for my bb curve. My daughter was slubbing all over it. it's Been a few months and it's still not working

Hey guys, I've been in love with my phone for the past two weeks. Now I'm on Vacay oversees. This phone is so damn light I didn't even realize they were in my swim trunks. Then boom it hit me 1 min later, phone in pocket and in the pool!!
Anyone with experience dropping it water or any advice regarding preventing further damage?
Bury it in a bowl of uncooked rice for a day or more. It will dry it out. There may be damage to the screen, or some contacts may be shorted, but this will help minimize damage. Also give it a few days to heal, some problems might go away as the last bits of water evaporate out.

Dont turn it on, put it in rice for 48+ hours.
During those 48 hours, pray.

Damp rid
Go to the hardware and get some damp rid. Place the phone in a small tupperware, place that in a larger tupperware with the damp rid in it and seal for a week. I have received 2 phones this way.
Take it apart and blowdry, that's the only way for sure, assuming you haven't tried to turn it on, good luck...

My OG 4G was submerged and I brought it back to life with no issues.
1. Like others have said do not turn the phone on
2. Do not blow dry the phone, if you have concerns with the contaminants in the pool water you CAN give the phone an alcohol wipe down. Alcohol evaporates quickly and can help to draw excess water out of small crevices while cleaning contacts, boards, etc
3. SETUP a drying chamber like others have recommended. Either using the rice
method or using a desiccant like Damp Rid. Put that in a shoe box along with
the phone and tightly seal it. 3 days minimum up to a full week. It took my
OG 5 days to come around.
That kind of rice works better, long grain, short grain, broken rice, Jasmine?
You need to take it apart and clean it NOW.
Pool water is highly clorinated. Chlorine is a corrosive.
Even drying it out or using rice will still damage the device. The water / chlorine are already in the device. Since its got a non removable battery the unit will still have power running to parts of it.
What needs to happen is
1, file a claim and replace it.
2. If you can get it apart. remove the battery and start to clean it with isopropoyl alchohol or contact cleaning solution.
But my guess is since it actually went underwater the LCD will have spots on it as well.
At this point its probably going to be a bad device.
easy way to turn it off, if on still, hold power for 10 sec, when in off state, hold vol down, boot into bootloader, select fastboot, select power down.
Don't use a blower that will accelerate the oxidation on the circuits.

Im in the Philippines so my phone doesn't have signal anyways I just mainly up use it as a wifi device, the real problem is when I get home. Let the phone sit for a day or two, or until majority of the water evaporates naturally. (do not put in sun or apply direct heat, as it will make your screen fog and cause bubbles etc.) When majority of the water is out then take a blow dryer on cool or normal (not hot or warm) and apply to phone covering all areas for at least 30 mins. You need to take of the back plastic face plate as it is easy to remove and will easily hold water. If you can watch a video on how to access the batter (if you cant find one there are some for the One X line witch is very similar in build). If water is near the battery or any electrical circuits it could easily fry. If you are unsure if the water is not completely out of it you have either not waited long enough or applied enough air to the phone. Good Luck and Remember do not turn on wet electronics! THAT'S A NO-NO!!!

Blow dry as in a can of air. Not a blow dryer.
Don't forget a pool has chlorine in the water. It may even be worth rinsing. Then blow dry and then let it sit.
Take the rear cover off. Was gonna say remove the battery too, lol. But the sealed tupperware/bag of white rice works. Be patient as hard as that is.

I like the insurance claim option the best also, I suspect that if it comes around, it will never be the same again, and I would be concerned that one day, for no particular reason, it will simply stop working.
Get a new phone, and call it a day. These things happen dude
The key is to get it apart and get every bit of water out/dried, I guess I shoulda mentioned to watch aspects of things to not get hot, however a regular blow dryer on low or cool shouldn't hurt anything, it will be a delicate process. First things first though, get the battery out, do not try and turn it on. I've fixed thousands of microelectronic boards, traces, solder points, and water damage accounts for about 75% of most of what I've seen. If you aren't comfortable with this as most wouldn't be, find someone who is or try some kind of tep, tsp, whatever but it doesn't sound like that's an option... Good luck and follow up, I'd like to hear how it turns out...

I was riding my motorcycle, and got caught in a downpour. I moved my phone into my motorcycle jacket pocket. I thought my jacket was waterproof...it isn't. :crying: It didn't get really soaked, but it did shut off. I started it back up, and everything works but the touchscreen. So, I have it apart and in a ziplock bag full of rice. My question is, the ziplock bag should be unsealed and open right? I would think you want it open to help the water evaporate, but wasn't sure. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I would imagine the damage done to your touch screen is done. Trying to get all the moisture out with the rice won't undo it. If that is all that is wrong u might be able to just replace that part. When u say apart u just mean battery and battery cover off?

Yeah, i just have the battery out, the back cover off, and it's in rice. Man, I really hope it makes it through.
Also, the screen comes on, but just not responsive to any touches. Also, I noticed the headphones icon was on, though nothing was plugged in. Everything else seemed to work (ie wifi, hard buttons, power button)

When you try to turn a phone on that still has moisture in it, that's when boards/components get fried. The BEST thing to do when a phone gets wet is to immediately take the battery out and FULLY dry it, a few days at least. This won't help you now, but hopefully it will in the future.

Well, I'm pleased to report, everything works perfectly. Yeah, I know with the first contact with water, it's always best to pull the battery, but I didn't really have an option while riding my motorcycle. Anyway, touch screen is working perfectly and accurately. Whew! Dodged a bullet. I think I'm going to start carrying a ziplock bag in my motorcycle jacket pocket just in case this happens again.
One day it rained heavy, and i forgot i had my s3 in my pocket and when i put it out, it wall all wet, it seemed to work fine for a moment, but a day after there was no sound coming from it and battery charginh was very slow. I put it in rice for a week but with no sucess.
So the phone works fine but:
- charges very slow
- sound does not work
- random turning off
is there anything to do other than replacing the motherboard?

I just got back from samsung, they replaced the mobo using the warranty (before that i unrooted and installed the stock rom). Everything is working fine.
Put it into a tub with dried uncooked rice init. Put the lid on aswell and leave for 24 hours and most, if not all the moister should be gone from the device.
Please note not to ever use a hairdrier on the device to dry it as it will push the moisture deeper inside the device which could make things worse.

did they really repaired water damage in warraty? did that "paper" behind the battery turned red/purple in your phone? I have put it in uncooked rice but it only works smoother now, before it was laggy.
Yeah, as soon as I fully washed my phone (accidently) I took some rice, put on fire (to reduce the already accumulated humidity) + salt. Then left my phone for 3 days.
My phone wasn`t charging and my pc didn`t recognize the driver. Nothing. The USB got damaged.
Nothing helped then i took to Samsung, after 2 days they called me saying my mobo needed a replacement but they didnt know what happened. So the warranty covered my shi** lol
I didn`t notice if that paper became blurred or not. I don`t think so xD
If the phone was switched on that's when the damage occurs, you want it switched off asap after any water damage, or the water will short the circuits and cause damage which rice will not solve.
If it was switched off in time rice will dry it out.
