Access Stock Do Not Disturb functionality in OP3-OP6 - OnePlus 6 Themes, Apps, and Mods

I've complained about the OP6 DND settings, and after switching from my Essential the settings I had on there for work and sleep were still taking effect on my phone. Digging around a bit, it looks like the stock options are still there but OnePlus just hid them.
Proof - https://imgur.com/a/grHAY5V
They can be accessed with a little app from XDA Labs which just opens the window from within Settings.

fair enough.

It works fine but, be careful : there is no icon in status bar to show when DND mode is on.

I actually created a thread about an issue i was having where a DND rule from my previous phone got carried over and was activating it on my OP6. Up until now there was nothing i could do to remove it because there were no settings for it. This has allowed me to delete that rule! Thank you.

I use tiles from playstore

Tasker does this best, with no limitations or missing status bar icons.
Action used is 'Custom Setting'
Type: System
Name: dnd_mode_enabled
Value: 0 or 1
Use 1 to switch DND on, 0 to switch off.

Hi there, thanks for the tip;
However i get an error while running it as it needs extra permission; I have grant AutoTools the Secure Settings permissions; Is there anything else i need to tweak?
EDIT: Got it. You need to run adb shell pm grant net.dinglisch.android.taskerm android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS as well for tasker to get permission;
EDIT 2: its not working... Under custom settings type is "Global", "Secure" or "System" ?

@geovass type is system. Make sure that you've got https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.taskersettings installed

@hash87 - do you have a list for all the different custom setting for Tasker?

I tried this with the new Android Pie update for OP6 and it seems that it doesn't work anymore.
Anyone knows another solution to get this working again?

What does Tasker's auto-detect mode say when you toggle DND manually while it's listening for changes?

It detects zen_mode from 0 to 1.
But I realised that native tasker Do Not Disturb action works as expected now.

Blocking Toggle Working

Found the solution to adding the wifi toggle:
1 Get SqlLite Editor
2.Goto Setting Storage |System |
3. Edit field "notification_panel_active_app_list"
4. add DormantMode
5. edit field "dormant_switch_onoff" from 0 to 1,
6. Hit save and reboot
You can now toggle blocking mode. Can't seem to get it to work though.
I got it to block the led light. I set dormant_always to 0
Set start time to 13 (1:00) then set dormant_led to 1.
Turned on blocking toggle and the led would not blink when I received a message. I still got the notification and my screen turned on tho.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
I had several force close of "settings" with dormant mode enabled. Doesn't seem to be working that cleanly, I'm disabling it for now.
I don't really need it anyway.
PS" dormant_switch_onoff just toggles it on or off. I turned it off and went into SQL Editor and it was set back to 0 so that's not an "enabling" control.
I am trying to download a System Dump to see if we are missing an .apk for some sort of Blocking Mode Setting App.

It likely needs to be turned on in settings, phone, messaging and anywhere it affects. Won't be a simple missing app.

isnt it a feature in android?. I looked it up on my note to where exactly its buried. and it looks like it's buried deep inside com.android.settings hopefully that'll help figure something out.
Long pressing on the Blocking Mode toggle should open the settings. Instead for me it crashes System UI and reloads the notification bar and such. I'd probably start there as well comparing from AT&T version.
Blocking Mode seems to be working correctly for me. I can toggle it on and off.
As others have stated, it crashes Settings when you try to open settings for Blocking Mode. My theory is that Blocking Mode settings is still there but disabled instead of just hidden. When you try to access it, Settings crashes just like if you we're to Freeze the wrong thing in Titanium Backup and then try to access it.
There is probably another field that would allow us to enable the settings for Blocking Mode, we just need to find it.
On another note, while I was poking around I found "Throttle_Reset_Day" which had a value of 22. Any theories on how this works? I changed it to 15 thinking maybe if you reach the throttling point of data use that it would reset and unthrottle a few days earlier. That theory only works if the throttling also resets at the beginning of the month though.

i'm looking for a rom from any other S4 besides Verizon's to see if i can pull the smali's to look at the differences today. i'll let you know if i come up with anything.

I'm not really not looking forward to that, but i want to find it out. it's now bugging me. haha. if only i had better internet than crappy DSL
Bump.
Blocking Mode is working perfectly for me, it's just when trying to reach the settings screen that it causes a problem. I adjusted the settings manually by editing the proper fields in SQLlite and added the notification toggle and it will turn on and off without issue. I have it set to allow calls but not notifications or the LED. It works as advertised with these settings. I have no real need to adjust the settings further but it would be nice to get the settings screen back as well.
I set it up and I put favorites as allowed so I'll have to see it if works.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
The settings screen works properly and doesn't crash in Beans rom.
Notifications are blocked properly, but it still lets calls ring through even though I have that checked.
dormant_disable_incoming_call was set to 1, so the feature is broken, not the setting in the database.

Thanks Andy. This was easy and works well. How do I disable the notification that is always on?

Use AlwaysOnDisplay (AOD) as substitue for missing notification LED using Tasker

You are missing a notification LED on LG G6?
You don't use the AlwaysOnDisplay (AOD)?
You are using Tasker?
I have a solution for you.
The AOD screens goes on if you have a new message and goes off after reading that massage.
Beside the newest version of Tasker you need additional the app Tasker Settings
I have attached two files "AOD_ON.tsk.xml" and "AOD_OFF.tsk.xml"
These are the Tasker task which turns the AlwaysOnDisplay on and off.
How to import these XML as Tasker task: read this XDA thread
Now you have to add 2 new profiles in Tasker
Profile 1 - Notification
Go to the Profile tab in Tasker, and press the "Plus" (+) button
Choose: EVENT - UI - NOTIFICATION ... you can choose now an app (owner application) let's say WhatsApp (you can choose more than one app)
Related task : AOD_ON
Important : leave all the fields TITEL, TEXT, SUBTEXT etc empty.
Profile 2 - Notification removed
Go to the Profile tab in Tasker, and press the "Plus" (+) button
Choose: EVENT- UI - NOTIFICATION REMOVED ... you can choose now an app (owner application) let's say WhatsApp (you can choose more than one app)
Related task : AOD_OFF
If you don't want to be notified in the middle of the night by AOD, you may have that Profile only active during daytime. Short tap the Prolie name, long tap the profile description. A new window pops up, choose ADD. A new window pops up, choose TIME. You can now define in which period of the day the profile is active.
LG G6 settings: Notifications/ LOCK Screen / do NOT choose Hide all notifications !
It works for me on LG G6 (H870)
Have fun
EDIT: for SMS & MMS add Contacts, Phone App and (if possible) SMS App to owner application in Tasker Profile
For missed calls you need to add 'Calling Accounts' apart from Phone app.
Here are the steps how to add this: (thanks to user Vitoski, who found out)
1. Click on the 'Owner Application'
2. click 'ALL' button at the right bottom corner
3. Select 'Calling Accounts'.
4. click back twice and tick to save changes.
EDIT : If you like to have a brighter AOD , please read this useful post added by user vitoski
Many thanks for that!
Thanks a lot to users Dracushor87 and Vitoski for testing and giving hints and ideas!
Edit : new versions of AOD_ON and AOD_OFF tasks
martmarq great post - thanks a lot!
I've been using AOD with Tasker since two days now and in most cases it works fine. It kicks in when the notification shows up and turns off when I remove the notification.
However sometimes the AOD turns on itself, even if there was no notification registered in the system. These are the two situations in which I have spotted this:
# when you go to Display Settings and click on three dots next to AOD - you don't need to change anything in there, just go there and back to homescreen.
# when you connect phone to the charger. Even when you disconnect it, the AOD stays on.
# under some other circumstances which I was not able to pinpoint right now
So, have you observed the same?

When you connect the phone to the charger, there is a notification.... therefor AOD should go on.
You can manage that by choosing apps (owner application) in Tasker. That solved the problem for me.
That might also solve the other circumstances.
I don't have that problem with the display settings... I have just tested that.

Have you used specific apps which notifications you monitor within the profiles or left it blank (none of the apps is selected)? This is the way I made it and I suspect it may causes all of those issues I described. Definitely will test it, but thought I'm gonna check it with you

Yes, I have activated only the needed apps like WhatsApp, Email and so on.
I have edited the first post, because for SMS you need a new profile (see above)
for me, sms notifications work without creating a separate profile. i only added the Contacts app to the list ( with Phone app )

I have selected both (Contacts and Phone) applications and it doesn't activate AOD when I have a missed call

A tasker profile is only activated when it is triggered.
If you produce a profile like "active between 8 o'clock and midnight" does that work for you?

Yes, it does. The AOD_off profile works, but I can not get AOD_on to trigger with an app notification, I have verified that I have the app selected for a trigger.

Screen density & Notification icons

Moved over from Samsung S8 and I'm mightily impressed. Just a few tweaks I'd like... The screen density seemed better on my S8, I could make text smaller.
Is there a way to hide the Bluetooth and NFC icons without turning them actually off? Without root.
Thanks
I'm testing system UI tuner right now which lets you turn on and off system icons but I need the Mate 20 Pro USB drivers to test.
Edit: The only system icon it seems to allow you to disable is the wifi one. Everything else stays. Probably need someone with a bit more understanding to see why they won't disable.
Edit 2: Even the built in demo mode tuner doesn't work so I've no idea whats going on lol.

I too don't like this behavior, particularly because if restarting the phone in poor light conditions the screen is automatically set to a very low brightness.
I'd like to know if this is a bug or it's so by design...
By design. All my mates did this. Don't like either but is what it is.
yup. an issue for me too
This is seriously a Huawei 'feature'? Holy.... :silly:
Possible solution:
Depending on your exact model and restrictions placed on it in your country/territory you should be able to do the following to stop this (VERY!) annoying issue:
1) Turn-off power-saving battery modes if you haven't already
2) Go into 'Settings' then: System -> Developer Options -> there will be an option called "Increase Readability Under Sunlight" -> Toggle this setting to "OFF"
3) Go back to main Settings screen, then "Display" and ensure that "Auto-Adjust" is OFF
This should stop the phone from constantly turning the automatic adjustment back on every time you restart.
NOTE: Some may find that they do not see a "Developer Options" menu within their System settings. If this is you then you MIGHT be able to activate this hidden menu by going into the System section then About Phone, then press/click the "Build Number" part of the screen 7 times in a row.
If this works for you it will pop up with a message such as "you are now an authorised developer"
If you get this kind of message then if you go back to your main System settings screen you should now see the previously hidden 'Developer Options' section
Hope this helps some of you, I had to do this on my new Mate 20 Pro
I really hoped that 146 update solved this problem, but even with all the above settings disabled, after reboot the auto brightness setting always stays ON...
Even more annoying is the dimming within certain apps. When you open Chrome for example, the display dims. And when you close Chrome the display gets brighter (to its original value) again. Haven't found a way to fix this yet. The problem occurs with autobrightness disabled as well as when the autobrightness is enabled. Also with Increase Readability Under Sunlight toggled off.
I'm looking for a fix that stops the dimming when opening certain apps, but let's me be able to keep the autobrightness function on.
I'm not sure if this works, I'm not even sure if the app is called power genie or power genius. But I saw this in a forum.
. non rooted solution will be: adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.huawei.powergenie
Try this as for me it is working perfect. Download setting database editor. Install it, after that go to setedit app and find hw_screen_auto_brightness_adj and delete line. Reboot and voila. No more dimming or increase in autobrightness.

Try this as for me it is working perfect. Download setting database editor. Install it, after that go to setedit app and find hw_screen_auto_brightness_adj and delete line. Reboot and voila. No more dimming or increase in autobrightness.

This doesn't work after a few reboots this line magically reappears.

Any solution to this using root? So annoying..

Tried this a couple of times, off/on/off on my p30pro, but makes no difference at all, any other ideas for these phones?
I had the same annoying "issue" with my Mate20Pro.
I have an efficient way to solve this.
Just download MacroDroid app, and you can make a macro with these parameters: after turn on do: set brightness to X% and turn off auto adjust.

Thank you for introducing this very useful app
It'd be brilliant if you could provide the exact instruction to do the parameters ... I couldn't figure it out after trying for several times
Cheers
Just stop rebooting your phone. It doesn't need it. Worst case is that you have to enable it after Android updates.

Disabling Heads-up/Peeking notifications

This is my biggest gripe on Android, it almost pushes me over the edge at times. :silly: Pardon me, as this is my first Samsung device in more than a year, I just got rid of my Pixel 3 XL due to my dislike for the screen not recognizing gestures as good as Samsung.
I've tried ADB with the command prompt adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0, which is what I used on my S8+ and even my P3XL, both successfully. It didn't work on my S10+. I also successfully installed SystemUI Tuner, followed the complete instructions and all of the ADB commands for that. The toggle appeared, didn't work.
This is the last thing I need to resolve to be comfortable in my new device besides the stupid GMail syncing notification. Any advice is much appreciated! :good:
Figured it out, I'm an idiot. I didn't see an option to delete the thread.....
Bro were u able to turn off the headsup notifications as i tried both of them the adb method and system tuner but neither works for me.

Its easy, you can choose it in the notification settings, you can choose for each app, choose only 'sound' if you don't want the heads up notifications.
This is new in UI 2.1 as before we had to disable with the adb method.
Cool!
