The impossible mission of rooting or oem unlocking BLU NEO XL (120K phones affected!) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA Forums,
I have been a guest on the website for a while now when looking for android knowledge and I usually grasp a good amount of whatever I am trying to accomplish. However, the issue I am currently having I feel is considered IMPOSSIBLE to fix and I want to confirm that by this community.
Phone: Blu
Model: NEO XL N110U
Android build version: 6.0
Custom build version (It’s a stock a downloaded, ill explain in a sec)” BLU_N110U_V10_GENERIC_MARSHMALLOW 05-08-2016 16:30
What happened is that about a year ago or so I updated the android version from lollipop to marshmallow using the OTA update (which is the wireless update). Worst decision ever as I found out that this update gave me 4 specific viruses that sends my information over to a Chinese server. Here are links on the virus:
https://www.droid-life.com/2016/11/15/blu-security/
https://blog.malwarebytes.com/cybercrime/2016/11/mobile-menace-monday-adups-old-and-new/
https://android.gadgethacks.com/new...be-affected-by-adups-chinese-spyware-0175014/
With this problem, I thought “I can just root my device and delete the files… right”? I never rooted a device before, but I have jail broken iphones, modded psps, and ds so I felt like this would be easy……Turns out its impossible if you already updated to that wireless update with marshellow. I also tried unlocking bootloader and that failed super hard as well! Here is what I tried:
1. Tried Kingroot app – failed
2. Tried kingroot on pC – failed
3. Went into developer options and enabled usb debugging and oem unlocking to TRY and unlock the bootloader. – that part worked……HOWEVER
4. Went into the recovery and choice reboot to bootloader. Then connected my Blu phone to my PC, went into Command prompt and typed, “fastboot oem unlock” (I believe I had to download fastboot and adb tools first). – This was painful for me. It gave me the option to unlock the bootloader using the up and down volume buttons. I need to press “Volume up” on my phone to confirm the OEM unlock……..HOWEVER THAT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY DISABLED. The buttons work, but when I need to confirm the oem unlock, it doesn’t allow me to do this. THIS I BELIEVE HAS BEEN PURPOSELY DONE.
5. I downloaded a stock version of my phone’s rom but at a lower android number (5.1) and tried to flash it to the phone using SP Flash tools. – Failed. It would stay illuminated black and the intro sound would come on but I wouldn’t see anything. I looked into that and I believe that is because there is something called version binding where if I update the version build, I can’t downgrade to use the same exploit.
6. Since the phone was bricked, I wanted to try to bring it back to life by downloading the stock rom for my phone at the same virus build version I’m at now and flash it to the phone. – It worked with viruses and all.
7. I Then thought, “Can’t I use open the rom file and delete the viruses I want, then flash it to the phone?” So I tried that by using mtk extractor which allowed me to open the system.img file for the stock rom which contains the android data. From there I went into the apps folder and deleted the 4 virus apps. Then I packaged the system.img back together into one file and then used that system.img when I used sp flash tool to flash the rom onto the phone. – It was stuck on the logo……I can still access the recovery fine and still doesn’t allow me to oem unlock.
This is where I have given up. At this point, I feel like I would need to learn more about the system.img file and what it looks for in the beginning. I just want to fool it into booting without those apps. I know there is something stopping it from booting because when I go into the recovery part and select the option to do a “root integrity check” it tells me those specific apps are missing. Is there any way to change the root integrity check to not look for those apps?
So I know this a lot of information but I need to write this down for all the steps I toke. I hope that this thread can help anyone with a Blu Neo XL device come to some information. If I can confirm from this forum that there is nothing that can be done. I feel then a law suit with Blu is in order and everyone should throw out there compromised phones. I have seen numerous other posts on this subject and so far NO ONE HAS ANSWERED EVEN ONCE. One pore guy had to keep bumping his thread of months until he gave up; atleast tell me its not possible! Here are the link I saw on this from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/tried-to-root-sort-blu-neo-xl-t3559702
Here are my main questions:
Is it possible to access the root (either via pc with command prompt or linux with terminal or even on the device itself) without rooting or unlocking the bootloader (since both seem to be impossible).
Can you extract a system.img file, modify it, then put it back to get together to flash it to a device without unlocking bootloader?
Infact can you modify any part of the rom or .imgs and flash it to spflash tools? (Or maybe I was doing wrong?)
Is there anyway to figure out how to modify the tamper bit if I have to find a way to get around the virus bug on my device that doesn’t allow me to use the “Volume up” button to confirm that I want to unlock the bootloader? (I’m not even sure if this phone has that, I just saw that for this oneplus and thought maybe it can be on all phones in a different way?) Here is a link on that-
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/mod-reset-unlock-tamper-bit-t2820912
The goal is get rid of the virus that sends my data back to Chinese servers. Also, the goal is to get an answer from the community here to put this to rest.
If you need any information on this or want me to upload anything please let me know.
Thank you for your time!

Bump as I need hope.
I understand people may not have this phone but I need some sort of reply to confirm that this isn't possible. I want this thread to be the first post anyone sees if they type in "Blu Neo XL" for rooting purposes.
Even if anyone that has a phone that is similar that is affected, that would be anyone who has:
R1 HD
Energy X Plus 2
Studio Touch
Advance 4.0 L2
Neo XL
Energy Diamond

Waited around for awhile but now its time be obnoxious. I will bump my other thread as well and just start hi-jacking other threads until mods ban me or someone answers me for once.

Also, I got a Moto G5S Plus instead finally. It toke me awhile to save the money because I don't make much but atleast I have phone that isn't sending my data over to china.....or maybe it still is sending my data who knows where. Either way, Bump.

Hey man, I didnt read through your entire post. But can't you just downgrade the version to one that is possible to root?
Or you can also get another phone that does have root as an option. Also, I don't think you should bump your own threads. Just wait it out, or ask in other threads for help.

Edit: Oh Man, I didn't even notice someone responded to this! Awesome.
It says in the rules to ask here. So I decided to ask here espcially since this phone doesn't have its own dedicated forum. I got a new phone about a month ago and its pretty good so far.
This is more of a lost cause but I bring this up just in cause other people get affected. I believe the Blu company had to pay the Justice department for this so they got away with it and thats no big deal now of days. lol

Also for those of you out there suffering, the above statement is not possible because the newer versions of Android OS have "version binding" so downgrading to an OS that is lower that way you upgraded to wont allow the phone to get pass the bios or whatever the android bios recovery start name is. (I don't remember right now) Even if you mod the recovery or bios file.

So here it is almost a year later from you writing this post and I have found myself in the same predicament you were once in and was hoping there was answers somewhere, but from the looks of it I am guessing I'm better off just breaking this phone in half and getting myself a new, virus free, root-able phone. Am I correct?

[Q] Android on an iPhone

OK, this is possibly the weirdest question I'm ever going to ask but let's get to it. Yes this relates to an iPhone but it is primarily an issue with the fact that it has a strange version of android on it and I don't know where else to ask this question. I've checked, it is not a weird version of iOS, it is a fully fledged version of android that just draws resources i.e. pictures, thumbnails, status bar, etc from the iPhone. I'll start with some background information.
OK, so my friend bought this iPhone 4s from another friend whose brother had completely screwed up the phone by modding it with a Chinese/Japanese modified android. My friend thought he could fix it but apparently not so he asked me to fix it for him. I check the settings and the version of android is V2G.12.03.12, I googled it and it came up with a Chinese/Japanese forum for modding iPhones with android, at least that's what it looked like. This mod has removed iPhone DFU and recovery mode, iTunes can no longer interface with the device and the home button now functions as a back button, the app store has been replaced with google play and the apps on the device are android apps, some of them are in Chinese/Japanese which I can't read so I just avoid them. My friend wants me to get rid of whatever version of android this is and replace it with iOS 7.
What I've done so far
Alright, as soon as I got the phone, I thought I should try DFU mode which is like an extreme recovery mode where you can flash different versions of iOS using iTunes but after trying a few times to enter DFU mode, I quickly realised it didn't exist on this phone anymore lol. So I digging in the settings of the device where I figured out that it wasn't just some modified version of iOS that emulates android, I found out that the android version was called V2G.12.03.12 and so I googled it. This was a fruitless exercise as all the results were in a language I can't comprehend. Then I thought why not try and enter recovery mode (android version) but didn't know how that would work with an iPhone so I installed ROM Toolbox Pro which is how I realised that this device wasn't rooted. Soo, since I didn't know how I was going to root it without recovery mode, I thought I'd try some 1-click root methods. I installed Kingo Android ROOT which seemed to be working at first, it was installing the device driver and then I dropped it while attempting to leave my room and when I came back it told me there was no device connected which was a major pain in the arse. However I concluded that the device driver was successfully installed as my computer was now able to enter the internal storage of the iPhone but iTunes still doesn't detect the device. This lead me to believe that the device can't be rooted because of an issue with the android version. So, after discovering this I thought I'd try ABD to try to boot into recover mode but since I've never had to use it before, I have to download it and apparently it comes with the Android SDK bundle. So I was downloading it when all of a sudden, when it reached 479/480 mb, it told me there was a network error, so I thought alright... let's try this again but alas, everything I try to download from that website gives me a network error right before the download is completed.
So at this point, I'm completely at a loss as to what I should do now, I need to find a way to root the device and to enter recovery mode so I can see what I can do in terms of some how flashing iOS 7 on the device. Please help me lol, there is £10 at stake here so help please ! And a reputation to upkeep . Thanks for any help that can be given. If this question is in the wrong place please help me move it, if this question is not appropriate for this forum could someone direct me to an appropriate forum to ask this on lol.

Have you tried consulting Google on how to reinstall DFU? I heard it is inside the .ipsw file but I'm not sure about how to put it on your device.
Also, try Google Translate for the websites.

Ah, thank you. I wasn't aware you could reinstall DFU, googling it right now. I'll see how it goes in terms of getting it on the device. Thanks
BUMP, I couldn't find any way to reinstall DFU however I found iOS 7.0.4 for the iPhone 4s but I'm not sure how I'm going to install it without being jailbroken or without DFU mode/iTunes. Help please.

Uh, uh, if it was possible for this to be done, it must be possible to reverse it, I'm going to keep trying and it's not my iPhone, it belongs to a friend so I can't just buy a new one lol. And the android isn't in English, no point in keeping it.

[Q] Root request: Alcatel Onetouch Pop Icon A564C

Hello,
Just purchased this phone and would like a root in order to expand its storage. It's a new offering from TracFone and is limited for on-phone storage. Other than that, it's a fairly decent phone considering it is a TF. I searched the forums and found other similar phones, but none matched this one. If someone would be willing to help, you would get a lot of thanks from TF users who bought this phone.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have tried several of the one-click methods for root (Kingo, Genius, towelroot, framaroot, etc.). All of which have been unsuccessful. Obviously, there is no rom available for this phone. If anyone has any other info, I would really appreciate it.

I got the same phone same problem while i didnt find a root for it i found out how to install to sd very useful
go to google and type in how to install apps to sd card no root then click on the link for instructables i cannot post link because im a new user worked for me
would really appreciate a root method if anyone has one the storage issue is really annoying -_-

Hi MotoJunkie01. I saw your post today, and I just got an Alcatel A564C from TracFone. I would be very interested in rooting this device, since the accessible internal memory is so small it makes it almost unusable. Please open a root thread for this device if you feel there is enough interest. Or, if you would be willing, just send me a PM with the instructions. I have been able to gain temporary root permissions on this device using KingRoot, but they go away with every reboot. Also, I have not found any way to unlock the bootloader. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'll get a thread and a guide posted on rooting the A564C. I've had some PMs with interest as well. I'll post the link here once done.
MotoJunkie, fellow R.F. guy here, I have been browsing this site for well over a year and just signed up in fact this is my first post. I was following your information on the LG zone 3 as well. I own a brand new in the box A564C and just can't get it rooted. I too, tried different ways and actually was able to get temp root once with kingroot when the phone was really lagged out for some reason I had root until reboot. But now every version of kingroot that I run comes back with a network error which is strange and didn't used to happen. So please, let us know what you have found out. I am eager to hear back from you. And, thank you so very much for your willingness to share your knowledge.
Just checking back in, to see if any advancements or progress has been made. I'm excited about finally rooting this device and anxiously waiting.

I'm getting a thread started, as well as threads for other various devices. I know you're anxious, but please be mindful that XDA rules prohibit asking for ETAs and such. It's not that I particularly mind, I just don't want to see you sanctioned for rule violations by a moderator.
A couple of things, I I may....
First of all, aside from the rules (not that I'm saying that I don't respect them, I do but at the same time want you to know what I'm about to say is genuine and not out of fear of getting booted off the forum) I want to personally apologize if I came off as asking for an ETA or came off as rude or unappreciative in any way, shape or form. That was not my intent at all, and rather than PM you I wanted to publicly say that I am sorry for that and to let you know as I previously mentioned how much I enjoy reading your posts and am thankful for your willingness to share your knowledge. With that said I won't get off subject or topic again. I just felt that I needed you to know that I was just excited that someone had it figured out is all and I will pay closer attention on how I come across from now on. Take care.

You're are both respectful and courteous, qualities that are coveted and always welcome here at XDA. I didn't take any offense to your questions but I appreciate your kind words. On an update for this device, I'll be posting a root thread early this week coming -- Tuesday or Wednesday most likely. I have threads for this and at least 4 more devices I'll be posting.
Thanks again for your kind words. By the way I'll be posting the link to my thread here, so check early in the week.
I certainly will...thanks for your reply, and can't wait! I will keep checking back periodically. Thanks again!!
Update: I'm experiencing a boot loop on my own device from trying to flash custom recovery. Trying to get this snag worked out and get the tutorial posted. Sorry for delay.
Hey,..noooo problem on this end...again, just grateful you're both willing to work through the issues and obstacles as they come your way (and if it's anything like that happens to me they sometimes seem to come out of no where, just about when I think my task is complete) but also appreciative that you're willing to share. I would like to start a new thread, not to pile on your list of people bugging you about things already, but need to find the right section. It is more of an R.F. type related question with regards to the modems in the phones and weather the modulation techniques and bands capable are software driven like a software defined radio or more hardware dependent. I know as far as bands go the frequency coverage would have to depend on hardware all the way from the local oscillator to the RX strip to the TX PA as far as gain and linearity, duplexors of some type, antenna (s) being resonant at the middle of the desired band (s) but as far as modulation techniques being more software controlled somehow? Anyways, stuff that I am very interested in but haven't found a section??

MotoJunkie01 - I'm curious to know if this boot loop issue has resulted in you stopping work on rooting this device? Although I am still interested in obtaining root on this phone, I'm cool either way. I'm just posting to see if you think obtaining root and posting a tutorial is still in the cards?
Thanks again for your work on this. I really do appreciate it.
I'm sorry guys. Upon trying to flash the device with a stock fir!mware image to fix the boot loop, my device is now hard bricked. I can tell you, in order to root your device, use the latest KingRoot apk. This will give you temp root only, meaning root will not survive a reboot. So, to gain permanent root, install BusyBox (any version should suffice), then download SuperSU-Me Pro from the Play Store (paid app). This will eradicate the KingRoot root binaries from your device and replace them with the latest version of SuperSU. You will then have full root.

Hello.
I will thank you if this method would work on my phone, but I am unsure my root would be successful. I would appreciate the steps you took in order to root the A564C(such as time to root, USB debugging, etc.) and if you can post how your phone is doing since the root. I would be much thankful.

Attempting to Root a Nexus 6

My Nexus 6 has presented me with an interesting challenge. During my attempts/process to root my phone, inevitably, one must reboot your phone. And as the reboot takes place the phone always goes into the "Charge" mode and not the "File Transfer" mode that the phone was in as it began the root process. I'm at a cross in the road because I cannot complete the root process. The only option that has presented itself to me is to restart the phone. And while my phone works properly, it halts the root process. I have just purchased another USB cable that charges and transfers data/syncs to cover that question. Any hints would be appreciated. I have had this phone unlocked using Chainfire's Nexus Root Toolkit a while back. It worked flawlessly. I've not really been interested in a custom ROM/Kernel etc. but in continuing to research this area. I'd like to try and unlock then root the phone again. Any hints would be appreciated
If your phone got the January update from Google, they patched a ton of the "exploits" that previously were/can be used to root Android devices. These were pushed out to the Nexus line by Google and made available for OTA by wireless vendors otherwise. This could be the issue you're running into now. If you haven't updated, then I think you just may need to find an alternative rooting method, as the one you tried may not be 100% compatible or is missing some sort of command to direct the device to go into file transfer/download mode.

I really appreciate your perspective. And without a doubt I'll look around and see where this goes. Just reading about all the work that has taken place since I purchased the phone, the landscape is a lot more enticing.

How to unlock the bootloader

I hope this is useful information. It took me a bit to figure it out due to a lot of conflicting information, since the procedure has changed, perhaps several times, since the first version of Android. Also, I'll probably forget myself.
Please note that I've performed these steps on Linux (Specifically Arch Linux). Others have pointed out that if you have issues executing step 7 from Windows, you may need to follow this post.
1. Install Android Studio, or otherwise obtain the latest versions of the adb and fastboot programs. I think Windows users also need to install a USB driver, but I run Linux, so I am not sure about that procedure.
2. Gain access to the developer options on the tablet. Go to the settings, and find the "about tablet" section. Scroll down to the "Software version" section and tap on that several times until it says that you are now a developer. Feel special.
3. Go to the new "Developer options" setting. Select "OEM unlocking." Also, I selected "USB debugging" as a straightforward way to reboot into the boot loader.
4. Connect to the computer on which you've installed adb and fastboot.
5. Type 'adb devices' to see your device listed. The tablet will ask you if you're sure you want to allow the computer access to it. Answer in the affirmative, and save that option.
6. Type 'adb reboot-bootloader' to do just that.
7. After you see the innards of your 'droid, type 'fastboot flashing unlock' . On Linux, you may need root permissions to do this. The tablet will ask you to confirm (select with up/down volume, and accept with the power button), and will then erase all of your data! I didn't worry about this as I'm all on Google services, and so they can be restored easily enough.
Huhu
and where is that for? What can I do after the bootloader is unlocked? Is there any alternative bootloader that I can use then?

you are then able to flash another (custom) recovery, which would let you install unsigned zip-files, e.g. in order to get root.
Unfortunately, there is no recovery port by now.
I don't know if one could use the source code on Lenovo's website to port one, if not we would probably need an image dump directly from the device (if I'm not mistaken you need root to dump the recovery image).
I really would like to have root, but it still seems far away unless there's an experienced developer somewhere who owns the device.
I've already thought of starting a bounty thread...maybe enough people are willing to contribute so that developers might feel attracted.
Hello,
Do you think it would be possible to install Windows 10 on our android yoga book?
Thanks,
I faced with one question , when I typed the 'fastboot flashing unlock ', there was nothing occurred except the innards of driod :crying, and I also selected the oem unlocking
(All right, I solved it )

Missing Something?
I tried to follow the instructions above, but I might be missing something. After typing in 'adb reboot-bootloader' the Yoga Book reboots into a screen that says 'FASTBOOT MODE.' But when I type 'fastboot flashing unlock' it just says '< waiting for device >' and nothing ends up happening. What am I doing wrong?

I relocked the bootloader, sinct then I got following message at the boot screen: bootloader error 01, please contact support.
After that the device is booting android properly. Anybody else experienced this and know how to get rid of the message?
Thx.

It's the price you pay for unlocking the bootloader. Affects many lower end devices, presumably using Intel chips. There is a solution for several devices - check around XDA - but I have not been able to get it to work with the YB.
For what it's worth, I would suggest those tempted to unlock the device and root it to check that you will be able to do what you want to do. Even rooted, I have found it impossible to get rid of the junk apps, so the whole exercise for me has been a waste of time. I'm waiting now to see if Lenovo will release the stock firmware. Until then, the YB is back in its box and I am a bit older and a bit wiser. Lenovo is junk.

i believe, this is due to android's security feature 'verified boot'. it warns that the system was somehow altered and can't be trusted - in other words that it is not an oem stock rom any more.
you might be able to get rid of it by flashing a complete stock rom, but i'm not sure.

firstly, it has nothing to do with intel or lenovo or low end devices, because secure boot or verified boot is part of android - it is nothing more than a security feature to show whether system integrity (as provided by the vendor) is still valid.
secondly, why is Lenovo junk just because you are not able to get things done? i don't get it. i've already told you that it is possible to get rid of system apps, just use the right tools... e.g. 'Sytstem App Entferner' which definitely works. also i helped you to get your twrp backup working and i was also able to use the newest magisk root (v10.2) immediately, which you said was not possible. so i guess you shouldn't blame others for your shortcomings. the yb might surely have it flaws, bur no more or less than devices of other manufacturers.

Let me start at the top:
1. My comments on Lenovo are no reflection on the useful tools you have provided us here, for which I have thanked you more than once. So no need to be defensive on that score.
2. If the unlock warning had its source in Android itself, we could expect the warning to bear its logo. I assume it bears the Intel logo because Intel is the author of it. In itself, this is of no importance. What is profoundly irritating is the fact that the security warning is followed by a completely unjustfied 5 second suspension. This is a penalty. Perhaps many do not mind this interference with their use of their devices, but I do. I'm not used to that kind of treatment and I don't take kindly to it.
3. My opinion of Lenovo has always been low, especially since their attempts some years ago to spike their devices with spyware. I regard Lenovo as an exploitative bottom feeder, supplying workaday gear and screwing their customers every way they can for an extra buck or two. I offered the YB to several of my friends. All turned their noses up at the mention of the manufacturer. Don't blame them.
4. If you do want to be of further assistance here, perhaps you can use your obvious technical skills and knowhow to work out how we can replace the Intel penalty with something more benign. I have tried, but can't find where the Intel warning is hidden.
I have downloaded and extracted the apk of the system app remover you mentioned. But until I can get rid of the Intel warning I won't bother to re-root the YB and test if it will clear the junk.
#carepack: at the moment, you must buy the stock firmware (and won't it be expensive!). All part of lenny's screw.
thx to all for youre response. my hope is that with next update the problem will solve by itself. We'll see. I were doin this ooi and was aware of things like that. So no drama for me.

Yes, that could well do it. But will there be an update? There's a new 12" YB on offer. Could be our 10" version is history already. But we could then hope that they will release the stock.

How to unlock Alcatel Ideal 4060A Bootloader?

Hi,
I'm brand new to this forum and my name is Jessy, and it's my pleasure to be here!
I recently bought this AT&T GoPhone (for around $29) at Walmart, and I was following this guide to allow me to use my SD Card as an internal memory storage unit for my phone, but I found out that I need to unlock the Bootloader, install TWRP, SuperSU and Link2SD apps to the SD card and my phone. Since this smart phone is similar to the Idol 3, could I use this method to unlock the Bootloader for my phone or do I have to try a different approach?
I appreciate your time and I look forward to contribute further to these forums! Thanks again!
-Jessy
I picked one up on Black Friday, and decided to root it. I was only able to install an older version of SuperSU though (v2.46). First I had to install the PC version of KingRoot (It's in Chinese I believe, but middle button is always "next" or "yes"), root the phone, and then replace KingRoot with SuperSU. Took me a few tries.
This is the guide I used from the forum:
SuperSU Me_6.4.apk
KingRootSetup v3.2.0.1129.exe
1. install kingrootsetup on pc(must have internet connection to work)
2. connect ur phone with ADB enabled from developers option
3. root ur phone by following on screen instructions...
4. after rooting, install supersume on phone
5.open the app, click on big blue button and wait...
done,replaced kingroot with supersu..

My Alcatel Ideal 4060A froze a few times during the removal of KingRoot, but all I did was: turn off the phone, remove the battery, and finish the procedure once the phone was on. The phone was only $10 on Black Friday, so you could say it was only an experiment on my part. Unless it's a really good phone, where you can go to the manufacture's website and download the original firmware and install it through your PC, there's not much you can do to unbrick a cheap phone that is practically unknown.

Thank you Mario for your help! I'm having a little trouble having my phone being recognized by Kingroot, although I have ADB enabled from the developers option, it seems not to pickup my phone still. I'm still trying though and I'll let you know if I get it to work properly, and perhaps document my mistake so others following this post who happen to have the same problem could know what to do.

*UPDATE*
Just wanted to update that I found out what was my mistake, which is a really simple and basic mistake, I apologize!
What I did was that after I had enabled ADB through my phone, it was already connected to my PC right after I had downloaded Kingroot, so my solution here was simple. I turned off my phone first, then I turned it back on while still connected with Kingroot still running then Kingroot finally read my phone and it rooted it as you outlined. Thanks again for your help, it is too valuable for me!
Here's the guide that I'm following so that I could install more apps to the phone through my 64 GB SD card if you guys were interested, to make the phone more useful, and I also installed my obama phone SIM card on it as well (from lifeline wireless, because hey why not? )

No problem. I'm glad you got the phone rooted. I originally picked up the phone to use as an MP3 player, so I removed most of the unnecessary stock apps with "System app remover (ROOT)", but now that I see how good the phone is (at that price), I plan to use it as a backup phone. It even has a notification LED light for unopened messages LOL; anyway, good luck.
My Alcatel bricked too using this method stuck at boot logo and does nothing... Any fix?
Thanks for writing rooting method for Alcatel 4060a Ideal Pop445. Need some help

I've been an iPhone user for many years, I'm almost new to android. I have unlocked the bootloader from the hidden developers options in the settings app. I haven't found any thing useful to root my new Alcatel Ideal 4060a (Pop 445) (at&t unlocked). There are tons of bloatwares and many apps that I can't transfer to sd card. I hope you two can help me out here as I don't want to brick my device.
Question 1: Do jessy did something wrong(regarding your given steps to root) that makes her device rooted OR she has just been lucky? Because someone just posted that he/she has bricked his/her device.
Should I go ahead and try my luck with your method you there would be some advice you would like to give?
Question 2: If I would be able to root this device, would I be able to install Android 6.0 Marshmellow?
Don't root this yet

I have rooted with Kingroot 5; latest windows version on their website. Now I'm working on replacing it with Supersu or Supersu-me.
I think there always be some solution as far as you are seeing something on your phone's screen.
Just a note from another user with an Alcatel Ideal 4060a... (got for $10 from Best Buy on Black Friday)
Don't try using King-O-Root, then proceed to install Super SU from Google Play. It works that first launch, but on rebooting...
It's permanently bricked. And yes, I tried everything, including adb, recovery (doesn't have an option to flash a rom), from-pc flashing (wouldn't connect/wasn't recognized by adb or the other tools), fastboot (wouldn't launch), etc.
I don't know about the alternate Kingroot app, though. That probably works as some people have said it does for this model.
I was stupid and assumed King-O-Root would work as well, since it seems pretty generic and worked for another phone. I've learned my lesson and will now only follow guides for the specific phone model I have.
Why am I even writing this if it's a different rooting app? Cause I spent 6 hours just to end up killing one of my phones, and this is my best attempt at feeling like there was some worth to the waste. (the chance of preventing someone else the misfortunate, and just ranting)
Anyway, I'm going to bed. (So annoying because I only barely was brash enough to go ahead without a phone-specific guide--was on the fence, but landed on the unfortunate side) Argh! Argh! Argh!

Any solution for this? I want to replace King-O-Root with Super SU.
None that I know of.
I have another Android phone that I was also trying to get root on, and that one gets it temporarily using King-O-Root as well, but I'm too paranoid to try to make it permanent on that second one. Losing both my Android phones would be too painful.
If anything, I guess try the KingRoot program, from the pc, and then use the "SuperSU Me" app, as the person on the first page of this thread described. That way worked for at least one person apparently. (though the poster just after said it bricked theirs, so beware)
By the way, is your root from King-O-Root temporary (till restart) or permanent? I installed Super SU during the same launch I used King-O-Root, so I never got to see whether King-O-Root itself would have worked as a permanent (though non-ideal) solution. (I know that on my other Android phone it's temporary)
King-O-Root = Bricked Phone
KingRoot5 = Root Successful + it is possible to replace with SuperSU

I pulled the boot file. Could someone maybe look at that? I cannot boot to the bootloader.
I could try to flash_image twrp to the recovery and try that.
I got this phone on black friday, shortly after I got root with kingroot 5 pc and it was all great, however I got greedy and replaced kingoroot with supersu :silly:. First reboot and it goes into boot loop. Now its been sitting in a drawer. I think that purify deleted some app it looks at boot.
It looks like the simplest way to get a restore is 'IF' TCL/Alcatel does an update, someone intercepts the signed zip file, then that zip file could be distributed and used with the stock restore.
Hopeful everyone here can work a better solution... thanks for all your hard work everyone.
yes u r right
