I am unable to get latest official updates on my Xperia XZ1 (Still on Aug'17 Patch) - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

I purchased an Xperia XZ1 in May, 2018. After use of couple of days, i noticed that i am unable to get latest updates (even my android security patch is of August 5, 2017 which should be of May/June'18 as per official XZ1 updates). Thereafter, I enquired on official Sony Mobile forum where i got to know that my unit is not a retail unit but meant for "commercial and journalism" purpose . Now after gathering such knowledge which is still not confirmed and i am worried about future updates, could anyone here help me regarding this issue so that I would get the official updates on my phone which is still showing that my phone has the latest software.

You should be able to flash the latest through flashtool if it does not help to connect it to Sony companion

Actually, I first tried PC Companion and it is showing that my phone has the latest software. Same is shown in the phone's System Update. What to do now...

Download firmware through Xperifirm and flash through Flashtool
What's your device model?
is your bootloader unlocked?

Model No. is G8342 and the Bootloader is locked.
Could you please guide me through the whole process of flashing the right firmware as I am new to all this and I think I have to do this.

Happened with me too, apparently some sellers online/local markets are selling storefront/demo devices after repackaging them and these do not get updates from sony officially but function fine, to confirm this you can check customization version of your phone and match it at https://xpericheck.com/device/G8342
If it's 1309-7037 (Commercial and Journalists) or 1311-2293 (StoreFront) then it is definitely demo unit :/
To check customization version:
Open the dialer
Enter *#*#7378423#*#* and press dial
Tap on Service info
Tap on Software info
Look for Customization Version
I'd suggest to try returning device if possible..

Its the Commercial & Journalists' unit. Im afraid returning the device is not possibe now. I just want to confirm if I flash any other stock rom, would that make my phone have latest official updates as and when available?

Kindly my phone was the same when i have got it last month but I have flashed the mea ftf file through Xperia flashtool and now I am getting new update which is not shown at any website yet I think it is july security patch.
Update: New software version 47.1.A.12.235 now installed with july security patch.

[Q] Firmware availability in UK

I got the 'SIM free' version of the phone, because I thought this would avoid those awful 'carrier delays'
I have tried the update several times (PC support) but just get 'your firmware is up to date' - yet I am still on 17.1.A.2.55 (yet 17.1.1.A.0.402 has been released for a couple of weeks).
How can I tell when it's available (other-than keep trying 'PC support') ?

Not many variants of .402 have been released. Keep an eye out here.

My Z2 is locked to EE but even they released the update last week. Really surprised the sim free version hasn't been released in the UK yet.
It is getting a bit silly, most in the UK are still stuck on .55 but there has been .69 & now .402 Maybe they are doing it the way samsung do updates in that it the carrier branded ones that get the update first then unbranded.

Hey peeps I took this from Sony UK support site:
Latest available software
You may already have the latest software, depending on the date of purchase. Software updates are released at different times depending on operator and/or country. Therefore, we cannot give you an exact date for when a specific update will be available for your device.
Android version: Google Android 4.4 (Kitkat)
Latest available software: 17.1.1.A.0.402
Release started: 2014-05-23
To find your device’s current software version:
Settings > About phone > Build number / version
SO it seems that .402 is available in the UK.
Hope this helps :good:

I imagine they release staggered and cover the largest number of customers at once, namely carrier phones. SIM free probably accounts for the least stock out in people's hands.

[Q] No OTA updates?

I purchased 2 xperia tablets from EE one in December as Xmas present the other in Jan/Feb for myself.
The first one I purchased is receiving OTA updates quite often and has been on kit Kat for months now, mine is still running jellybean and has not had a system update since I can remember
Both are SGP321 and mine does receive application updates through the Sony update centre
Currently on build 10.3.1.A.2.67
the other is on build 10.5.1.A.0.238
Manual refresh on update centre always comes back as "your device already has latest available system updates"
Any ideas why this one is not getting updates through?

Do the have similar customization numbers?
Your customization number can be found in your service menu under 'Service info' > 'Software info' > 'Customization Version'
If not. That is normal, because not all codes received .283 the latest firmware. If codes are similar try to update with pc-companion.
Yeah customisation codes are different... 1274-050_R4B and 1273-9362_R2D
Tried PC Companion anyway and same thing most up to date... annoying it is so far behind!
And boot loader locked on mine... great!
Is there anyway of installing a standard (but different customisation code) version on? Or am I basically stuck waiting?

1273-9362 is UK and it is updated to .283 firmware. 1274-0506 is T-Mobile UK and it is on 2.67 firmware. So all you need to do is to flash firmware via FlashTool. It's not difficult at all. Jusy look through tutorials.

Where to find old firmware/How to backup firmware?

As I understand it, I don't need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash different official firmware versions to my phone. I'm leaving the bootloader locked until I really have a need to unlock it, because of the long-shot hope for a root exploit that will let me preserve my TA partition. As part of that, I really don't want to be stuck on a recent firmware version with all the old security holes patched. Therefore I want to get ahold of my current firmware or earlier before I flash anything. Somebody stop me here if I've misunderstood and anything I've said so far is impossible.
I have the dual-sim variant, G8342, running firmware 47.1.A.2.324.
Question 1: Is there a source somewhere of archived XZ1 firmware versions that includes 47.1.A.324 or earlier? I have searched the forum and google, but most xperia firmware backup sites have little or no files for the XZ1, and the couple of sources I've found are ancient with broken links. The post on these forums with stock firmware downloads only includes much newer versions.
Question 2: Is there a way I can extract a copy of my current firmware from my phone, without unlocking the bootloader? I find tutorials that work for "any xperia", but they're all quite old and talk about Sony PC Companion instead of Xperia Companion, and they all involve clicking "Your software is up to date"--and my software is not up to date, and updating it before backing it up would defeat the entire purpose of backing it up.
I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could clarify this for me so I can flash new firmware without losing the ability to go back.
Hi there, sorry i can't help you with your questions. I have one more question actually. are you sure i don't have to unlock bootloader if i flash official stock firmware??
Opposite to you, i'm stuck with a really old build from 2017. my phone is xz1 and its build version is 47.1.A.2.374. android security patch is from october 2017 and i desperately want to update the newest firmware yet i'm always told that my firmware is lastest.
sooo, am i able to flash it with the flashtool or newflasher?/
thank you

Seems highly unlikely that you haven't received an update since 2017 but then stranger things have happen.. New phone, carrier branded hmm..
Have you tried to update with Sony Companion, use the software update on the phone its self..
Oh and yes you can use the other methods you have mentioned..

You could download the modified Odin and SimFirm applications on your computer, download the fw then update through Odin.
Or, you could go to https://firmware.science and follow the easy steps listed at bottom of the page. However I'm not sure this method will get you to the most current update.
Can I jump from my current android version to the most updated one? Or do I have to go though in between past updates?
Does this method work for the snapdragon version with locked bootloader?

Using Odin you can jump to the most current. And yes, as long as you choose the correct fw when downloading

no security updates since march 1, 2020?

Hi all,
so I bought a V60 with DS yesterday, it was an open box but all the plastic still on device, like brand new and was able to test it and reset it to factory default before buying.
everything fine with setting it up but the phone doesn't update the security patch level..it says: you are using the latest software version for current OS.
patch level is from march 1 , 2020.
anybody knows what could be the issue.?? i've haven't found anything on this issue on the internet yet..
info:
model LM-V600EA (i think this is the Global unlocked version.?) my country is the netherlands and have a Vodafone SIM, i am able to make phonecalls and use data 4G+
software version v10f-EEA-XX
android version 10
buildnumber: QKQ1.191222.002
KERNEL 4.19.81
ive tried to use the LG Bridge software but when it want to update the driver it cannot make connection to the server.
when i want to install the driver by myself, it says that the os version (using a mac os catalina 10.15.6) is not supported...sigh..
looks like the unlocked version doesn't update.? the US verizon version have had several updates, even the latest august sec. patch level.
if someone could shed a light on this, or knows what is the issue...already very thankful.

--UPDATE--
hi all,
i succeeded with updating the phone.
I used a windows 10 laptop, installed LG drivers and LG Bridge software.
it found an update, downloaded it and installed it. whole process took about an hour. download was very slow.
now i have the July 1 security Patch update. (not the latest which is august, but ok, it's LG)
software version is now v10m-EEA-XX.
camera software also updated.
still wonder why the phone is not updating OTA.
BR
Mike
I have the American AT&T model and received the August 2020 patch as an OTA a few weeks ago.
Since receiving the phone around April 1st, I feel like we've gotten every other security update.
IIRC, something like March (came with it), April, June, and August. But my recollection is a bit hazy.
On t-mobile tje July security patch is the most recent release. We've also been getting every other month or so, so I am expecting an update sometime in September hopefully
still don't know why the OTA update was not working. maybe because I have an unlocked version of the V60.??
as (security) Updates are being pushed out by carriers, i had to update it via LG Bridge.
bi-monthly update check via PC it is then.
thanks ya'll!
I also have unlocked eu version same as yours and all updates on mine was done OTA, I'm on July at the moment.

do you also have the -XX in your software version.? I've read somewhere that XX on software LG phones indicates it's a test/demo model..maybe that explains why it was a open box when I bought it..
anyway..I was able to flash it with firmware V600EA10M_00, (NLD Region) ive used LGUP, hoped that the XX in the software version was removed but it isn't.
Also found a V600EA10K_00 version..Think Im gonna isntall this one and see if there's any difference, want to know what the K and M means in the firmware.
if anybody know what it means, let me know!
Thanks all!
Mine is LM-V600EA, V10m-EEA-XX.
I bought mine from Belsimple from Netherlands and actually use phone in United Kingdom on EE network. Definitely not test version. Letters in software version indicate release as lower letter then never software, same with other LG mobiles ( I had G3, G5, V30).

thanks for the info. so if i flash it with the K version, it would be an earlier version of the software and security patch level. then I leave it with this M version.
do you have an idea on why the OTA was not working for me then.?
as we both have an unlocked version and mine wouldn't update OTA. phone was on security patch level of 1 March "out of (open) the box" and on software version v10f-EEA-XX but OTA said I was on the latest version of OS.
When I opened nine from box first what I done I checked for updates and it's downloaded straightaway. Did you connected through WiFi or mobile network. Maybe updates are set to not download through mobile network etc. Also the way how software number show up it's mean that is unbranded fw, if you will have branding fw it will show something like v10f-234-30 (for UK EE network), mine unbranded eu open V30 also show similar to V60 where on v30 is v31a-EUR-XX (latest stock Pie)

Hello, my LG V60 LM-V600EA still has not received the security patch from September 1. I am in France where it isn't sold, I bought it on eBay (open box, new phone according to the German seller, the second screen was sealed), and English UK language, at startup (nothing abnormal).
Nothing by OTA, LG Mobile Support Tool and LG Bridge does not recognize my firmware: V10m-EUR-XX. No problem whith IMEI and serial number. I received it 10/02 but the downloaded update was July 1st.
I found this strange link on the internet: lg-roms.com(???) (I don't even know if I can trust)
The latest versions are Polish (POC) and Italian (VID) . In m we find the NLD version.
Question: if one of these rom works is it reasonable to flash by LGUP or I wait for LG to update the EUR version?
Thanks
hi, I sold mine so I cannot test or tell you on which security patch LG has pushed now to the v60. the Rom site you can trust, i've downloaded and installed the V600EA10M_00 ROM and installed it via LGUP tool. but it didn't made any difference. the software version, security patch date and build number stayed the same. Also didn't got any OTA updates..regarding the official firmware..the OTA suddenly was there when I had it in September. The LG bridge tool helped me to update it to the July sec. patch but LG Bridge tool was a bit of a ''''''[email protected]#$% to get it working correct (drivers, latetst version of the software, wasn't able to connect tpo the server error's etc) eventually it worked, but still after this no OTA....I would wait for LG to push the updates..maybe it's a comfort to know that LG is really 'lousy' with updates...couple of month's behind with Security patches is 'normal' You have to play the waiting game...Hope this helped, Best regards

Thanks for your help.
I took the risk of flashing the ROM in version n version VDI (since it works) because selling it now will not bring me much. Unfortunately (but logical) I remain in the EUR-XX version so goodbye to updates.
If the site remains update, I will always have the option of going through LGUP. Anyway VDI, POC, NLD, they are the same versions as the EUR that LG forgot (my LG V0 is however in global version EUR-XX).
Thanks again
If you read my previous post you will know by now that is nothing wrong with EUR-XX version. My current version is v10n-EEA-XX September security updates. All my updates done via OTA, mobile bought in Netherlands and still in use in United Kingdom.

The problem with EUR-XX, no update since 07/01. Nothing by OTA, LG Bridge doesn't recognize my Firmware and LGMobile Support Tool can't find a other update than m version. Nothing wrong ?
Edit: I try to install the m update and ... nothing : no upgrade to n the 11/12.2020.
You can try to remove sim card and try update without sim. I know that while ago orange UK blocked updates on some lg phones, once users insert different operator sim card mobile phone find updates immediately. I never had any issues with my v60 where this mobile is not in UK market, still working fine and update OTA.
If you still have issues try to use vpn for different country and update with lg bridge without sim card.

Unfortunately it's too late, these updates have messed up my LTE frequencies. In short, I am missing frequencies that make 4G + unstable in France. Now between 0 and 20 mb /s, before always 30/40 with EUR-XX firmware, watching YouTube has become hell without wifi,
my LG V60 is just an phone without a real LTE! (VDI, POC & NLD have this problem because I flashed in refurbish, it's my fault).
Otherwise OTA updates work fine but not beyond version m (EUR version). Now it's too late.
NB. 2 whole days trying to find a solution, I lost my time. I thought that the modem part was common between all European countries like for Samsung, with LG: NO!
