Love my V30 but does anyone else see it drop the AT&T connection? Just the other day I was at the golf course and it was totally off the network. AT&T logo was gone, no LTE, etc. I drove a few miles and no change and I knew I was in an area where it should work. I rebooted the phone and it hopped right back on the network with 3 full bars of LTE. That's 2 or 3 times I've seen it lose the connection and struggle to get it back. Anyone else seeing that?
I'm upgraded to Oreo, btw.

I have the a H931 ATT V30 converted to US998 and the only time I have any signal trouble and sim card oddness is on Boombox rom.

I have the H931. I didn't know you could root this phone or convert it to the US998. I'd be interested in trying that to see if the different modem files help. Can you link to some instructions?

This is the thread. The frankenstein flash method works for all V30 models aside from the H932, which is T-Mobile.
If you Convert it to the US998 then it effectively sim unlocks the phone as well

Sounds good. I'll check it out. What differences are there between H931 and US998? I'm assuming things like VoLTE and Wifi calling will not work. What about tethering?
Are you on AT&T? If so, did you notice signal improving or signal retention improving when it's a US998?
VoLTE and Wifi calling dont work on booxbox. I havent used stock US998 much, but these forums are full of success stories of getting that to work again after converting.
I am on ATT. My signal is really the same after converting. I havent noticed any changes in quality, etc.

What benefits (other than just being rooted) do you have when you do this? Are you getting more frequent updates? I'm still on May security patches for example.

US998 has June security update.
LG has to give updates at least every 90 days for V30 and variants.

First I want to thank all of you guys for the V30 posts. You guys helped me pick this phone with confidence as I had not found a proper replacement to my dear Nexus 5.
I just bought an unlocked LS998 at BnH and before flashing it to US998 I tried the Google speed test with my ATT SIM card.
I had between 6 to 9mbps up ( same down) while my current phone (HTC10) is showing 22 to 25mbps.
Same SIM card and same location.
Is this because I am missing att bands? I notice band 1(2100) was missing vs the HTC or the US998.
I believe the hardware itself should be an upgrade from the 2016 HTC 10 Cat9.

I'm not clear. Are you still on LS998? Or US998?
Also depends on what ATT band you're trying to use. Band 5 is slow like that. It's just supplemental to the main LTE bands.

Not easily, but using LTE Discovery app you can see the band being used.
Any reason you haven't already flashed to US998?
AFTER bootloader unlock and root, your can even turn it into ATT H931, if you wish.

No particular reason except that I am at work and got my phone during my lunch break :angel:
Also I wanted to read more before starting any modification (warranty and IMEI registration on LG for instance).
I am still a noob in terms of smartphone but looking at your comment and what I have read in this forum I understand that the hardware is the same between the US998/LS998/H931 and that you can "unlock" specific band by flashing the phone. Which reassures me in chosing the LS998 $50 cheaper than the US998.

Actually in the settings hardware info it's already showing LG-US998....
The box says LS and it was sold as unlocked LS on B&H... I'm confused now...

Well, technically it is now "unlocked" LS998, since it now has US998 firmware.
Did they flash it to Nougat US998 or Oreo US998?

Nougat unfortunately 7.1.2 security patch (Apr 1, 2018).

I've been offered a cheap unlocked refurbed V30 H931 variant and I was wondering if it will work with Mint Mobile (T-mobile) out of the box or if I should flash it with H932? My SIM is already activated and working on my phone, i'll just be swapping it out of my old broken phone and into the V30. Also, I travel to europe a lot (mainly the UK) should I flash a different firmware before I go each time to ensure I have the best radio and can connect to 4G service? My old phone is a UK phone and I don't get US 4G with it irritatingly.

Is it likely to work with T-mobile/Mint out of the box? Is there anything you would recommend I do to improve signal/performance with T-mobile/mint on the AT&T variant phone?

AT&T H931 is locked to AT&T. You'll need to Frankenstein it to carrier unlocked US998. Many are running US998 on T-Mobile.
I'm getting an unlocked 931 tomorrow, and will be trying it on mint mobile. If it's unlocked (as the seller says), I think it will work on t-mo network. It certainly has all the LTE bands needed (except 71 unfortunately).
I'll post back if it works or not.
I can say that the unlocked 931 I got works on mint mobile. The LTE signal isn't very strong but the download speed is good and everything else works fine. Really like the v30, what a nice phone.

Unfortunately, it has a lot of compatibility and phone issues: keyboard frequently crashes, OS crashes, constantly getting locked out of the SIM card so I can't listen to my voice mail on the phone, randomly lose service, most of my calls are dropped... Essentially, the only good thing so far is battery life, app comparability and texting works.
I currently looking for recommendations for a new phone to purchase in the next few months. It must be easy to root, have decent battery life and I don't want to spend more than 250. The cheaper the better... I was looking at the honor 7x/8x, anyone have experience with those?

All LG V30/V30+/V30S can be bootloader unlocked and rooted. While doing so, you can also convert many to another model. For instance, commonly can buy a Sprint LS998 V30+ (128GB), easily bootloader unlock, install TWRP, root as carrier unlocked open market US998 V30+. This can be used on any carrier.
Or buy US998 V30+ (but it's probably LS998 V30+ already converted)
$250 on eBay for new or "mint" condition.
There's also European/Middle East/Pacific variants if you need slightly different bands. EVERY V30/V30+/V30S can be bootloader unlocked and rooted.

No Huawei or almost any other phone matches all hardware specs/premium features of the LG V30/V30+/V30S. Only Samsung Galaxy flagships do, and then you run into the easy root problem.

What is the purpose or benefit of converting to another model? Like, what is the difference between a US998 and LS998? Also, what's your opinion on buying open box/renew/used? What should I be looking for if buying any of those?

US998 is carrier unlocked. Converting Sprint LS998 to a carrier unlocked variant is the only way to carrier unlock the phone.
Also of the North America V30, only US998 has fastboot flash commands to bootloader unlock, install TWRP and root. So you have to temporarily convert to US998 anyway. After bootloader unlock and root, you can flash TWRP-FLASHABLE zip (ROM) based on STOCK KDZ to convert back to carrier firmware if you wish.

So essentially it sounds like find whatever is cheapest except that H932 model. Do you have any experience or knowledge on purchasing second hand? It seems like renewed is the store's version of "certified used." What about renewed vs used/open box?

Before I buy the phone. One thing I'm not understanding, the phone works with all carriers, correct? When I had my Galaxy S3, it was on the CDMA (sprint network) and wouldn't work with GSM network carriers. I have a Galaxy S5 now with a sim card, it is supposed to work with GSM carriers but not CDMA. If I wanted this phone to work on CDMA network, do I just not put in a sim card and it should work with sprint network? And if I wanted to go to t-mobile network, I just add a sim card to go to their network? Also, should the phone be coming with an IMEI and a MEID # to confirm it works with each carrier?

The US998 has all the bands (GSM, CDMA, HSPA, LTE) to work with all North American carriers. It's the official carrier unlocked model for North America.
And what you described SHOULD happen, except Sprint demands you buy their locked down Sprint V30 LS998 to use on Sprint instead of the carrier unlocked US998. Sprint will not authorize any other LG V30 on their network except Sprint-branded LS998.
But others use US998 on T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, their MVNOs, Canadian carriers, etc. Blame Sprint.

I think you meant T-Mobile H932 vs US998 on T-Mobile. An H930 won't work on T-mobile. Since you said you have several T-mobile H932, you probably mis-typed your title, when you said "H930".
T-mobile H932 has the newer LTE band 71 which T-Mobile uses. US998 for the longest time got T-mobile Wi-Fi calling (at least on US998 firmware), but some people are reporting that with the newer SIM cards (combining Sprint and T-mobile assets) that it not working any more. Some people on T-mobile MVNOs says theirs are still working.
The dev who ROOTED the T-Mobile H932 and is a long time T-Mobile customer sold his H932, bought some other phone, then came back to the V30. When he did, he bought a US998 -- even though he's a T-Mobile customer. That was a couple years ago, so I don't know what he's using now.
I have a Sprint LS 998 converted to a US998. I've activated it with T-Mobile on Nov., 2020. It works fine on T-Mobile network until few days ago.
Now, my phone has issue with accessing data (4G/LTE) receptions at my house. The data reception comes in and stays for a short period then cuts off. I have to turn the data OFF then back ON, so I can get the data reception back, but not for long.
I have tried troubleshootings the issue with T-Mobile customer support, but the issue has not solved yet. I'd even factory reset my phone, but no help.
My phone is working fine at different locations.
The T-Mobile technician agreed that the issue is at their side, not my phone. He made a report. Hopefully, the issue will be solved this week.

Yes I need to buy another V30 and it needs to work on TMO. I dont want another H932 because I want to go AOSP route, I dont see any viable options being released any time soon(except maybe new Pixel if they decide to add sd card), so looks like US998 might be my only option to have a decent phone with micro sd and with no bixby button.
I'm reading the various threads from 2018 and 2019. They mention that the H932 is more difficult to root. Is that still true? They also mention that the US998 is missing the LTE600 (B71) band, but it will still work with T-Mobile USA on the other bands.
I also learned that many US998 models are actually LS998 that have been converted. Is that a problem in my cases, now that Sprint and T-Mobile merged?

V30/V30+ T-Mobile H932 is still the hardest to root, yes. Not to be confused with the V30 H932PR which was sold in Puerto Rico and is different. The T-Mobile V30 (64GB) and V30+ (128GB) has different encryption system and no native fastboot commands. (Well, almost none. None that are helpful.) For the other North American variants (AT&T H931, Canada H933, Verizon VS996), without fastboot commands, you can easily convert them (Frankenstein) to US998 to get that. With the T-Mobile H932 you cannot cross flash other firmware to get that ability without bricking the phone.
There's an alternate method for rooting the T-Mobile H932. See here.
Also, the 128GB V30+ variant of the T-Mobile H932 was a limited offering, sold for a short amount of time during holidays in late 2017. Most of the T-Mobile H932 are the 64GB V30.
Since T-Mobile has merged with Sprint, the new T-Mobile SIM cards seem to not allow US998 firmware to have T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling anymore. If you can find an older SIM card, that will still work, to my knowledge.

Thanks for the update. It sounds like the US998 is the best version to purchase. I guess I should try to get an original US998 (not a converted LS998). Am I right?
I might try to buy two of these because none of the current phones being made today top the LG V30 for me. (Like somebody said on Reddit recently, smartphone technology seems to be going backwards in some ways.)
Is anyone using LineageOS 18 as the daily driver on the LG V30?
