[SOLVED] US998 Failed to mount /system structure needs cleaning - LG V30 Questions & Answers

tried to flash viper, made back up first. restoring gives me error in title. daily/only phone fast responses much appreciated!
Solved! Backup was working. TWRP keeps saying no OS. Used Power + Vol Down to restart and booted into system. Had an issue with the lock screen. Got past that too. TWRP still thinks there's no OS after reflashing TWRP but it's not keeping me stuck in recovery anymore.

I've come across this issue plenty of times. Did TWRP begin to recognize the individual partitions of your OS after backups and can you flash mods and zips normally? Usually this would land you in Bootloop City.

I've run into the same problem after restoring from a recovery. Power+vol down works, but I'd like to fix the underlying issue. How do you flash a kdz without boot/recovery?

Some have found TWRP missing after flashing and only unchecking boot and recovery. Not a big deal, just have to fastboot flash it again.

It means you no longer have TWRP custom recovery, but have the useless stock recovery.
You can reinstall TWRP.

[HOWTO][MT2-L03][Stock ROM with root]Fix soft-bricked phone using TWRP

EDIT on Jan 18,2015
Please see post #9 for a flashable zip of the stock ROM with root that is taken after updated to B148.
Below original post has version B126.
******** ORIGINAL *********
Fix soft-bricked Mate 2 (MT2-L03) phone using TWRP
If you messed up the phone and it came to a state that phone can not boot into android, if you have TWRP installed and have a backup, then you know how to fix that easily.
But if you don't have your own backup, I have upload my system partition so hopefully you can use this to restore your phone. The backup is taken very close to stock, and it is rooted with SuperSU installed.
BTW, there is a "safe mode" boot method, so try that before using twrp recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/asc...ted-amazon-app-store-stuck-boot-loop-t2872628 (post 6 and 7)
Steps to Restore you phone if all other ways failed:1. Your MT2-L03 need have bootloader unlocked, and TWRP recovery installed properly. Even your phone is soft bricked, as long as you can boot into bootloader mode, you can still unlock bootloader and install twrp recovery.Unlock bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-mate2/general/progress-rooting-ham2-t2867975
Install twrp: http://forum.xda-developers.com/asc.../2014-09-22-teamwin-recovery-project-t28851442. Boot into twrp recovery and select "System" partition only, and backup it to your external storage (yes, I know your system partition is bad, this step is to create proper twrp backup directory)
3. Download following file to your PC, unzip it.http://tinyurl.com/qzxkm4x
FileName: TWRP_BACKUPS_stock-system-with-root.zip4. Turn off phone and take out your SD card out and plug into PC, then navigate to following directory under the SDCARD: \TWRP\BACKUPS\xxxxx, the xxxxx is a string that different in each phone
5. Copy all the files unzipped from step 3 to above location. overwrite any files with same name.
6. Put back the SDcard to the phone, and boot into TWRP recovery.
7. Choose restore, select the only entry that you did the backup, and select "System" only, perform the restore.
8. Wipe your dalvik cache, cache.
9. Then reboot.
10. If you still have problem, boot into recovery again, and wipe /data parition as well (Factory Reset).Download the MT2-L03 backup here:
http://tinyurl.com/qzxkm4x
FileName: TWRP_BACKUPS_stock-system-with-root.zip
And thanks @dbmj unlock bootloader, @Modding.MyMind build twrp recovery, and @D33PTHAWTE confirmation that this fixed his phone.
Glad you got this posted. This will be very vital to many people down the road. And great work on giving instructions to create a backup for the simplicity of automating the needed directories for usage of the actual shared backup. Thumbs up bro.
@D33PTHAWTE, welcome back
For everyone not getting TWRP to work I have done it on 3 HAM2s and all work try this.
1.flash this stock recovery https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-nJFDpWA4MdVjhEYzU3TXlMZ0U&usp=sharing
2.even if you have your own use that because I know that works and I dont know what yours is.
3.boot into the recovery and make sure that its the stock recovery and its working.
4. restart the phone 2 or 3 times to be safe
5. flash using twrp using 15 second ADB installer.
Has anyone followed thoes steps and that recovery above? (not your own) if not try that and let me know. take a screen shot of what ADB is showing you so I can see that TWRP was successfully installed. Starting at square one. Flash twrp and show me its flashed.

Hi, I have seen these issues pretty frequent recently that:
1) /cust partition is not covered in this TWRP backup, so after restore, you may still got facebook app mismatch failure when upgrade.
2) Even after a successful OTA upgrade, many people (include myself) met problem to reflash the TWRP image.
So, give me a few days, I think I can make a flashable zip that has latest (B148) stock ROM with root, probably this weekend.

This is a clean Stock ROM (flashable zip) with Root after upgrade to B148 for MT2L03.
It should only be used for plain carrier unlocked Huawei MT2-L03. Other varies (carrier locked) MT2L03 is un-tested and may brick your phone.
This ROM include /cust, /firmware, /system and /boot partition.
The official B148 update also contains update to SBL1/ABoot/TZ/RPM partition, they are not included due to risk concern.
I didn't fully test this ROM, I just pickup the image from my early backups. I installed it to my already updated phone and boot up fine. So please try it and let me know if you see any problems.

[PROBLEM]System disables CWM recovery

Hello, Its my first post here so ~hi
Well, I am an owner of Rikomagic MK12 device,
The device has a driver only for when I am on recovery-reset mode, which disables me the option for USB-debugging.
The problem: When I get into ROM Manager, and click to get in-to recovery,
My system go off - then theres a flash of "rikomagic" (always on openning), then a black screen with a flash of the word "rebooting.." at the bottom corner. and then the system just turning on..
The same on other boot apps..
Any help?
BUMP!
Please help!
This is most likely due to the bootloader being locked up or on a odd partition.
Try booting into recovery manually.

Trying to revert to full stock

I am curious to see if anyone knows the possibility of simply booting into TWRP on a new T-Mobile V10 (fastboot boot twrp.img, NOT fastboot flash recovery twrp.img) and pulling the STOCK recovery. If anyone knows if it is possible and/or is willing to be a guinea pig to pull stock recovery I am sure it would be helpful to many in the community.

Yeah, I never flashed TWRP, just booted it to flash SU. So, as per your request, I booted it again and did a backup of only recovery. So this should be stock recovery, since I had never flashed TWRP, hopefully? I don't know how to turn it into an img file tho, but you could restore it in TWRP. Hope it helps.

Never factory reset from a custom ROM. It is recommended to do it from recovery. Your reset has wiped too much including important parts of the OS. Flash another copy again.

On booting to recovery using the key combination, my phone got stuck at the TeamWin splash screen and won't go beyond it. Now it just boots to that screen when using the normal key combination as well instead of Android. Anything I did wrong or is there any other issue?
I was using Magisk with stock recovery prior to flashing this. Going to flash the stock ROM again using Odin and try this once again.
Edit: Since all reboot options now lead to the TWRP splash screen, there doesn't seem to be a way to get in to download mode. Most likely seems that I have to let the battery drain out. A word of caution for anyone else trying this out.

I had removed all accounts and formatted data/cache partitions before flashing the TWRP file. However, the first time I missed booting immediately in to recovery and the OS started booting instead. So, I rebooted in to recovery and it is stuck on the TWRP splash screen since then. So, did the half boot in to the OS result in encryption of the data partition once again?
Tried just about everything but still stuck on the splash screen. I don't know when the battery will run out now but do hope that I will be able to get in to download mode once it does so or otherwise I think I got myself a brick.

Thanks, that's the combination I was looking out for. I did that combination without the USB connected and used some other combination when the USB was connected. After a fresh ODIN flash, I was able to boot in to TWRP without any issues, so great job with the recovery.
Update 1: After powering off the device, it is now only booting to stock recovery, no sign of TWRP. Selecting the 'Reboot to system' option in stock recovery results in a "cannot load android system" and "data may be corrupt" message. Selecting "factory reset" option in stock recovery booted me to Android.
Update 2: Booted to system after the factory reset and powered off. Now the phone won't go past the Samsung logo with the message "only official binaries are allowed to be flashed"

Thereafter things worked out fine as per your instructions and I have permanent TWRP. Will try out Magisk-patched TWRP later and post the results.

TWRP is permanent but it always boots to TWRP irrespective of key combination and from there one has to reboot to System.
Also, I patched the recovery image with Magisk and it doesn't seem to work. When rebooting to recovery from TWRP the first time, it leads to a blank screen and on rebooting it gets stuck at the Samsung boot logo.

Not much use for non-Magisk TWRP I am afraid. So I am going back to Magisk with stock recovery for now since I chiely use Titanium backup.
I am on the ASE2 firmware and since this TWRP boots it up fine, I am assuming it is the same kernel version as used in the stock version since its source code was released recently. Hence, it might not work with other firmware but I am in no position to check that out.

You can always install Magisk with stock recovery for any firmware using topjohnwu's guide over here. However, Magisk installation will always trip Knox.
Also, TWRP might be helpful in flashing various patches, especially for GSI releases that you cannot do with the stock recovery.
