[Q] RAW Support - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

Hello, my dear friends, after my Xperia Z and 6 years of usage I am back with the xz1. I am also very disappointed with the Raw support and Camera 2 api that we cannot even use google camera app and its portrait mod and etc but I am quite happy with the camera for now. I've contacted Sony for this RAW and Camera 2 api support a few days ago saying these:
"Unfortunately even 200 euro phones are passing us and they give better results with their camera After using Sony from the Sony Ericson K750 times to now, and lately I have been using Xperia Z for 6 years, however, xz1 and the 400 euros was the biggest disappointment for me. For past 2 years, almost every smartphone supports Camera 2 API and they have portrait mod, Raw support and HDR functions with the Google Camera app. But where we are as Sony? Our own camera software is not capable to respond and compete with the market! Please make an update by making Camera 2 API available for Xperia users. No Camera 2 Api, No portrait mode, No updates for Background defocus, No Raw support, and what do we have as better than the others? Very very disappointed"
AND I HAVE GOT A REPLY:
"Thank you for contacting Xperia Support by Sony.
We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
With regards to your inquiry, we would like to inform you that Android 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 7.0, 7.1 and 8.0 support the new camera features via android.hardware.camera2, and Google defines three modes for the new camera features:
Legacy mode (no support RAW capture)
2. Limited mode (optional capability for RAW capture)
Full mode (optional capability for RAW capture)
Currently, Xperia devices support the Legacy mode, which incorporates features and functionality in addition to our already renowned camera experience. We are always monitoring our customers' expectations, and as for taking photos in RAW format we will consider this for the future.
We would like to thank you for your remarks and inform you that we are always at your disposal for any further assistance in the future."
I would like to hear your opinions and thoughts on this topic.
And I don't know exactly if I am posting the thread in the right section (forgive me if I am not).
Thanks

I suggest you email the developer. If it's a legal copy of the game, it probably doesn't support your device.

Unfortunately when we release games we can't ensure compatibility with every single device, there are just too many and software is constantly changing. We will forward your information to our team for consideration.

It's just a general ****-you notice so they don't have to deal with as many requests. What they actually need to do is fix the game to run on U8500 hardware. If they do that, good for you. If they don't - sorry, not much you can do.

I can read a bit of chinese, and the user reviews in that forum are not encouraging. The forum is also pretty dead.
Some examples:
Rampant SODs and crashes (bluebo claims improvements in 6/19 ROM, but very little feedback thus far)
1 user has obvious dust below screen.
1 user seeing screen flickering under low light
1 user say shutter speed is slow
Users of previous models cussing and swearing that bugs are left unfixed

Hi XDA,
I was wondering when K zoom will have its own separate forum?
This will be a good channel for Q&A as well as sharing some more information on the K zoom for those who are interested as well.
Please either pm me or write back with an ETA if possible.
Kind regards,

and SIGH at there being no Dual Picture option on the K Zoom.
I've come from my S4, Tab Pro 8.4 and Note 3 to the K Zoom and was shocked to notice it doesn't have the Dual Photo option like those, technically, lesser camera phones.
I sighed loudly.
so maybe they need to include that in a next update. it's not good taking 20 Megapixel photos of a beach scene when you're not in it!
( though you can be on the sad old S4, or Note 3, or the Tab Pro 8.4! )
Make a collage using a 3rd party app, that's all it is.
Will not happen when taking the shot you have to do it after.
or use photoshop and get more fancy.

Can anyone test if HDR+ mode works with google camera? (need rooted users)

It doesn't work on stock G5. But maybe if you changed build.prop to ro.product.model=Nexus 5X it would work? I need some beta testers.

I wonder if we need something more than just Camera Api2 for it to work, maybe there are some hardware requirements. I tried googling, but it didn't give me any results. But now that other people had success with making assistant and other things to work on different hardware than it was released for by editing build.prop, maybe we can do the same with the camera. I'm just not ready to unlock the bootloader yet.

Well I've researched a little and it seems that some libs are needed to make it work, but I haven't been able to find which one,I did a few tests, used the one I've found, but no luck, even tried to activate it modifying the apk,but again no luck. So that is why I think that some libs are needed
Oh, then we probably should try to get more developers/testers and then maybe we can achieve something, maybe some mod that would make HDR+ work on more devices.
What do you know about these libraries, are they device specific or could we just easily port them to G5?

Best GCam port?

I've found that Gcam ports are giving me far superior photos to auto mode on the stock camera app. Just wondering if anyone has messed around with various GCam ports and found one that works best? I'm currently using Arnova's latest port with HDR config set to "pixel 2017 ZSL HDR+" and model set to "pixel 2".

yes i saw. i just thought that you recommend to try both versions and decide.
but as this is a QA, a have other questions if you guys dont mind...
is there a cam app that has
1. extended resolutions for example 1440p/60, or 4K with stabilization? are those even possible?
2. ~480p resolution for low video size if you just need to document something?
3. boosted low light video, even if its low res/noisy - if you need to shoot in very dark and need to have at least something on the video.
hey, thx. :highfive:

I think the first link may be to the post where other versions are described. There is an attachment which is a fix and may have to be flashed. Anyway just use the APK.
