How to have better camera on Oreo ROMs - Galaxy Grand Prime General

TIP OF THE DAY
INTRO
If you don't like the camera's quality it is because the google camera app is not the best for the grand prime, actually this is the problem of all ROMs based on the pure android, isn't the image clear enough? does the image looks blurred?
I've been comparing my camera on android oreo with my another phone (both are the same model), one has the stock Android and the other one has the pure Android 8 and the differences are huge, how to work around this problem?
Well... I have researched and talked to devs about this and it turns out that the drivers of the camera are the same as the stock firmware, but the only thing what changes the quality is how the image is processed by the camera application.
So who's the one to blame? The camera app.
What is the solution?
The real solution is to use ROMs based on the stock ROM, i.e. touchwiz, but I have noticed that many people still prefer using the pure Android so this solution is not possible. There is still another way.
CyanogenMod camera and fine adjustments
That's what you read, with the 'old' Cyanogen camera app you can have better pictures.
First, install this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maartendekkers.cyanapps
It's called Cyan Apps if the link isn't working.
and then...
Choose 'camera' on CM's 13 sectionNote: Don't choose the CM 14.1 version because it crashes when you start recording a video or change to frontal camera.
Download and install it.
Adjustments
Open the camera and go to settings, drag down until the last options and turn off the Denoise option, then go to the sharpness and set to the level 0 (or do whatever you think is better) and go to the picture quality and set to it 100%. The rest of the options you can leave in the default level.
Optional
You can, alternatively, with root access make this a system application and delete the other one just to have only one default camera for your ROM.
In the images attached below I want you to pay attention in the sharpness of the image and the quality, I hope you don't mind if I'm a bad photographer.
UPDATE: I know the link is broken and the reason is because the Cyan Apps has been removed from playstore, I don't know why, but you know now the secret to make the image good-looking, you have to turn off denoise option which comes by default turned on in all Samsung cameras. Find an APP that can make this for you. Best Regards

Holt sh*t dude.. it fixed my camera quality. Now the photo quality can be compared to stock cam.
Although now the photos are a little noisy and kinda looks little bad on low light..but it's really good on places with light.

Low light is always an enemy for the camera

This WILL also work on Snap-based (that's the camera included on most AOSP ROMs) cameras.

What is the best Camera App for Atrix?

I was looking for a good camera app for atrix. I think the stock gingerbread camera app from Motorola don't make the best use of 5MP Camera. I've used Camera Zoom FX but it doesn't cover the full screen. The photos are a bit small.
Which camera app do you reccomend for taking best pictures?
no app, get the droid 3 cam
How to get that? & How to install that? Any help?
what rom are you using?

Stock Gingerbread (2.3.4) from Motorola. Rooted.
Yes, the DROID 3 cam is the best, got it with the Darkside ROM.
Zoom Camera FX. Better than any other camera, including the droid 3 camera, imo. Smoother and longer zoom (13x), more flash modes (auto, on, and flashlight mode for video recording or to see what your pic will look like with flash before you take it), more scene modes, the ability to clap or shout and have a picture taken (as well as timed modes and steady shot mode), and better autofocus options make it hands-down the best camera app I've used, and I've tried all of them. That's not even taking into account all the awesome effects you can do with it. You can either shoot a pic and apply effects later, or set the effects and see them real-time before you take the pic.
*I am in no way affiliated with this app and have nothing to gain by recommending it.
-Tim
This is true. Zoom Camera FX ! I use it since I got my ATRIX in March. Since than they always made a lot of nice improvements on the application, the gui for example. I use the paid version and I really can recommend it.
And I like Paper Camera for special effects.
And what is the best?
Miui, Droid 3, Camera FX...

I was complaining about Camera Zoom FX because it wasn't taking pictures full of my screen's phone! But that was in the settings! I chose Widescreen & now everything is perfect! Very happy with Camera Zoom FX. It took photos so crisper, smoother & perfect!
I use the paid version & the latest version is 3.2.1
Do the apps recommended in this thread also include 720p video recording?

I like Camera Zoom FX, but is the quality really better than the MIUI camera? FX has more customization options, but MIUI camera--to me--seems to take a better picture. Thoughts?

I tried MIUI Camera & played it with 2 days. But Camera Zoom FX really take better pictures than MIUI. I've tried same picture with both of them. Camera Zoom FX takes crisper image than all of the others.
Besides, taking photos with volume down button is a huge plus point for me. Camera with physical button really enhance the possibility to take better pictures. Tap anywhere to capture is another very wanted feature by me.
Is there a way to find a flashable addon for the Droid 3 or MIUI camera? or at least an apk. Thanks
Also how do you set the save location for MIUI camera? Its already preloaded in MROM so Im currently using it.

Z2 Best camera app? And best mod?

What is the best camera app that produces the best quality and resolution? Perfectly clear app has an option for 20mp resolution does it really do 20mp?
And there has been many camera mods that modify the quality which one do you recommend?
Stock camera
Sony block out the controls on third party apps so in terms of quality using the manual controls on the stock camera is the best way to go.
Not if you unlock your bootloader, in which case I think most other camera apps work better than Son'y camera.
I've tested Google camera and Open camera, and both gave good results and better than stock, on unlocked bootloader of course.

On Aosp/Cm based roms when controlling iso results in lag which makes viewfinder unusable...and in stock roms i guess procapture/open camera are the best since they allow you to use scenes in full 20mpx mode.

In my opinion, the stock camera is the best.
Although it normally takes photos in 8MPx (you can change that in kitkat) it has the fastest focus.
However you may try the HTC's camera (available in themes&mod section here).
It takes 20MPx pictures by default, but you can't really want more from a pic that the hardware offers.

I just flashed the v7 of this camera and as for now it seems to be a much better camera apk than the snapdragon apk.
I like how many features it has, especially the EIS.
The only bug I've found is that if I enable the "Power button as a shutter" then I have FC all the time (have to wipe it's data then).
Zooming isn't good with this camera as objects become way-to pixelated when zoomed in. Tried to do this same thing with cyanogenmod's default camera and the object was much more clearer and less pix-elated. Plus the use power button as shutter button makes the app crash all the time.
Edit - While focus works nice in both front and back camera, it doesn't show the focus ring in front camera.

Well, there's no focus mechanism in the camera, so what kind of focus are you expecting? The face detection?
---------------
I just did some low light tests.
Tbh, there's no difference in the noise amount. Both pictures look ****ty + the pictures from this camera are all white, I mean like there's almost no color in the pictures. The stock camera wins in the color reproduction in those conditions easily.

Im taking about touch to focus. It doesn't have touch to focus when using front camera, whereas cyanogenmod's default camera has. don't know about miui default camera.
It takes bright pictures in low light, but It's just too white in normal condition!
Plus, stock camera has better details. Slightly better.
One more thing, there is no 120fps slowmotion for HD resolution. and I don't know if 60fps FHD works or not.
Worse than Snap Camera included in latest CM13 build (balika). The chroma noise reduction is worst...
v22 works on miui. will be glad if you can upload latest updates here
Well this is like dream come true. For video shooting, this is the best camera app for redmi note 3 atleast. It has features like video stablisation, h.265 encoding and the best of all, it is able to save the video to sd card. (I previously tried an apk of camera next from apkmirror and it was not able to dave on sd card) . And for still shotss also, it has denoise feature, which I missed back then in camera next. Thank you so much. Now there is no need to go back to miui any more. You made my day.

An insane GCAM camera port will make your OP8P a camera BEAST

I'm totally speechless, today i swapped my S20 + for a OP8P, and TBH the camera is better but they where close.
I spent quite a bit of time, and as an avid GCAM user i tried MANY GCAM ports, all where pretty much crap, or not really better than stock, but, BUT! THAN, i found Parrot043 mod. I installed made my usual tweaks, and what i have saw is literally INSANE, this camera mod, literally destroy everything i have ever tried, and believe me i tried hundreds of them in my life.
1. If you have a previous GCAM, open the camera, hold and press on the icon on the homescreen, press app info, clear cache, and data.
2. Uninstall the app, reboot the phone. Than install Parrot 043 link > https://gofile.io/d/BpCWFx - also alternative host - https://easyupload.io/k6t42a
3. Go into the settings of the GCAM, turn on HDR enhanced, into advanced section, into HDR frames, and set 35, enable sabre, just under the HDR enhanced frames option.
4. Restart the camera app, go into darkness, take a photo with your camera app, and than take a photo with the GCAM mod, BE AMAZED.
P.S. Do not touch anything else, maybe turn on H265 for videos, and 4K for the back camera, increase video bitrate to 50mbps + and that's it.
P.P.S. ALWAYS make sure you have HDR enhanced on! it makes taking moving objects harder/blurry, but for low light its EPIC.

OnePlus 8 Pro IN2025 10.5.8 xXx rom currently.
Had gcam installed from xXx, force stopped, cleared data, uninstalled with reflashing rom to remove as system app, then rebooted. Installed the other. Tried clearing data, rebooting again, made the one you recommended a system priv app, but it keeps crashing the moment I open it. I can't even open settings, because it crashes on open.
I have tried modifying the permissions, tried a previous version, still crashes on start. At the time, no other gcam folder.

Its the sabre i think, you need to somehow turn it off, sometimes older GCAM ports mix with new and bugs happen, its either that, or its the sabre. In order to fix this, IF IT IS THE SABRE, you will need to wipe cache data from recovery or even FORMAT the phone, look at the photos, the upgrade is ENORMOUS, but it depends of how much you need it, i would suggest for someone with the same version as your model/firmware, test the mod to see if its the sabre or not, i had this issue on my Mi Note 10, all GCAM ports looked the same, no improvements, i tried everything only the format make the settings change post installation.
EDIT, it might be even the rom! i just saw you are on custom, sorry buddy.
Always keen to give GCAM a go (not sure why i have such a soft spot for it lol)...
Anyways, thanks for sharing this. Attached are a few samples of me jumping into a store room with the door slightly opened (it's pretty dim inside).

Urnyx is also great and stable, but sadly it lacks exposure in low light, (darker photos) and the noise reduction can kill details. Parrot can see where eyes cannot, very good.
OP camera is better in low light than this, and you can't use any of the other cameras, so until they solve that problem for the OP 8 pro I'll be sticking to the stock camera.
You lose more functionality than you gain in picture quality.

But i think, gcams and stock cam could be better with updates over time, the software for the sensor has a much higher optimization potential.

Sabre is a better HDR merge metod, it should offers better details especially in low light. Should be in every situation, test it, you got nothing to lose.

Why Do you hype this camera when a lot of people tell something different? I tried the mod already and as I said, the Stock cam is better (for me) also in lowlight. I tested it in a very dark room. Also for daylight shots Stock is a way better, just in the view of sharphness.
So, your hyped gcam mod isn't the mother of all cam apps...
Update: I tested again in another Environment and again, Stock is a lot better. Not sure what's wrong with your Stock cam. Are you running the latest Version? ??Seems there is anything wrong on your side. I for myself can't share your opinion.

Question Camera: no auto HDR in pro mode?

It seems that when the stock camera is in pro mode it does not apply Auto HDR to the JPEG image, whether it is told to save the jpeg only or RAW+jpeg. Is that the intended behavior? I agree that the raw needs to be left alone but not applying Auto HDR to the jpeg is disappointing, to say the least, particularly since pro mode is the only place to tame the overly saturated color rendition of the stock camera app.
Unfortunately it's intended behavior.
You can try Good Lock Camera Assistant and disable Scene Optimizer to tame the contrast in default mode.

You already answered your question about missing HDR in Pro mode. HDR does over saturate the colors.
Samsung should be embarrassed about this camera. OP, did you find a way to reduce saturation without losing HDR?
I tried GCam but half of the functionality doesn't work on S23 at present and I want my camera to be easy/reliable.

I tried GCam but half of the functionality doesn't work on S23 at present and I want my camera to be easy/reliable.

I don't think that there is any.
You can go with camera mode, but the picture is overprocessed, and you cannot play with it much.
You can go with PRO mode, but you don't have HDR and therefore wide dynamic range.
You can go with ExpertRAW, but the processing of the pictures is somehow even worse than in the base camera app.
You can go with GCAM, but then you don't have access to greater resolution than 12 Mpix (as Samsung is not exposing API to 3rd party apps for 50Mpix and 200Mpix) and some of the features are not working that easily and video mode is limited (same reason as for 50/200 Mpix not available).

I agree. I use GCAM, but of course, it is not perfect. So many decisions in the camera department made by Samsung simply do not make sense to me...
The amazing thing is how bad the Fruit Cam has gotten too.
