Xiaomi MI series vs. Xiaomi REDMI series = which line is better? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Xiaomi MI series vs. Xiaomi REDMI series = which line is better?
Everybody knows that Mi series goal is to be better than Redmi at least in specs and performance.
But how about performance to price ratio, how about all other things that You dont worry and dont expect in REDMI casue it's cheap but You do expect it in the MI series?
What are the problems/things that You don't like in MI series?
What are the problems/things that You don't like in REDMI series if there is any? WHY? Cause we all know not to expect wonders for a low budget priced phones.
I've talked to many people who had/have REDMI and MI series Xiaomi phones (clients, selllers, internet folks, friends) and they only agree on ONE thing -the price is great wheter it is REMI or MI phone.
A strange thing happens.... REDMI owners are always satisfied. The only thing that bothers not all of them is the camera quality.
But in low and middle price segment REDMI beats EVERY other BRAND.
Xiaomi has also great prices in the high end flagship models but here MANY PEOPLE are dissapointed.
For example camera quality, screen quiality, body, bezel, bugs, no NFC, no european B20 LTE band.
The MI users also tell me that non of the above bothers them but something totaly different. EACH person = an original problem with MI device.
Can You please tell me what are Your problems/dislikes with MI and REDMI devices cause I'm about to buy one from each segment?
What should I worry about (Android updates maybe?) buying a REDMI and a MI phone IN YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIANCE?

The biggest difference besides hardware is updates. Redmi devices usually only get one major update for example the note 4x was released with 6.0 and then got 7.0 but will never officially see anything higher. Although I don't find that a big issue because MIUI rom gets security updates and features from higher android version added. Also most devices get updated MIUI versions for example note 4x released with MIUI 8 then got 9 and now 10 is slowly becoming available. Also wifi hardware is subpar on redmi devices. Again I will use the note 4x for example. It does not have 802.11ac and using 802.11n you are capped at 150MB/s and 2.4 ghz band doesn't do 2 channel bonding unless you have root and edit the proper files.
Camera quality I can't really say much about. I am not a big picture taker and what I do take seems fine.
If you are concerned about radio bands then there really is only one choice. The MI Mix has pretty much every band you could ever want.

So REDMI get less Android uprades than MI series.
The LTE bands are slowly beginning to be a no issue as more and more devices get the whole Global LTE bands.

Redmi's or hongmi's are the low to mid-range smartphones and the MI's are the mid to high-range smartphones and flagships..
So go with the Mi's but phones like the Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note 5 Pro, the New Redmi 6 series and the old Redmi Note 4(Qualcomm) arent bad either.
Phones you got to avoid are the Redmi Y2/S2 due to terrible software decisions(it runs a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit CPU! like the old Redmi 2 series) and if you wanna develop for a device, avoid the Redmi Note 3(Qualcomm) due to the community being a little meh.

I've heard the exact same thing form a reliable source so it must be true what you're telling me about MI and REDMI in general.
Redmi Y2/S2 terrible software(?! software!?) specs is new to me.
It is disturbing tho causue Redmi S2 is a good phone on paper (perfANDstuff/price ratio) yet You tell me to watch out. This is bad.
Also Redmi Note 5 has probably (heard rumors) some issues, the most recurring one is with the camera mode - unfortunatly one user delivered the XDA community an info stating that it might not be a soft issue but a hardware issue (same error happens on stock and on custom rom).

It is new but due its software being 32-bit, you are not using it in full potential
Still you can build 64-bit LineageOS or port 64-bit MIUI from Redmi 6 Pro

Mi are their flagships and Redmi are budget versions, obviously Mi series are "better".

When is Xiaomi Mi note 2 released ?

Right now, I have seen many xiaomi smartphones released, such as Xiaomi Mi4c, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 prime, but these are just the mid range smartphones of Xiaomi, not like the high end smartphone, Xiaomi MI NOTE, and i also get rumors about Xiaomi Mi Note 2.
Here are the main features:
All Metal Body
5.7-inch Sharp sourced 2560 x 1440 2K display
Snapdragon 820
4GB RAM (at least) and 32GB memory
16 mega-pixels is on the cards.
So when Xiaomi Mi note 2 released on earth? I would like to try to make the review and compare with Xiaomi Mi note. This is the really high end i want to appreciate.
Any news?
Then you may have better luck on the miui site. This OEM is not really a big thing here.
cant wait for this phone!

In europe they sell alot, its a cheap alternative for LG phones..

Difference between Xiaomi phones

Hello everyone. I got a question about different xiaomi phones. So i am looking for new phone and at this moment the most impressive phones out there is xiaomi. Can you tell me please which one of these are the fastest with the best specifications not only on "paper" but when holding in hand as well. What i mean by that is some phones have pretty nice camera and cpu/gpu specs on paper but the camera in reality doesnt work so well and they are slow as hell after few months usage.
So i am looking into a phone under 300$:
Xiaomi mi4 (there is a lot of them, not sure which one is the best)
Xiaomi redmi note 3
Xiaomi redmi note 3 pro
If you got any other suggestion of the phones under 300$ feel free to post. Also do you know any legit sellers who sell in europe? thanks
get the Note 3 pro i.e. snapdragon variant, its the best of the lot that you have mentioned.
The difference between all those different models, if you ignore all their difference names (MI4, Redmi, Redmi Note, Redmi Note Pro, etc...) are the chipsets that are in use.
The MI4 phones run on SD80X chipsets, like SD800 (original MI4) and SD808 for the MI4S.
The Redmi series in general tries to be budget wherever possible, so most of them run on Mediatek (crap) chipsets, except for the indian / international variants of the series, as Xiaomi has been hit with a Mediatek chipset ban in india, forcing them to go with the slightly more expensive (but way better) Snapdragon mid-end chipsets.
Which brings us to the so called "Pro" variants of the Redmi series, those are essentially the indian / international market variants I've talked about.
Summed up they run on whatever the current mid-end Snapdragon chipset is, which makes the current iteration (Redmi Note 3 Pro) run on a SD650.
Performance wise, the SD820 is the king of the hill right now (MI5), directly followed by the SD650 and right behind it the SD810 and behind that the SD808.
So if you want the best bang for your buck, the Redmi Note 3 Pro is currently your best bet in raw performance and battery runtime.
For me there were 3 important things before I bought my first xiaomi phone a week ago. Sdcard slot, good specs and a low price.
Many xiaomi phones don't have a sdcard slot, so take a look on that. Redmi note 3 pro does have one.
2nd thing is the mediatek processor. I somehow don't trust them yet and since I wanted something more powerful than my old z2 I saw this nice benchmark in antutu of snapdragon 650 which convinced me.
One important thing before you buy any miui device. I recommend you to buy a pretty new one, at least one that comes with lollipop (updates may never come) and with 3gb of ram. 2gb of ram is really not much for a miui rom.
I bought my phone from xiaomiforsale, 5 days delivery (to Poland from Czech).
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Thank you all for your opinion, going to order an redmi note 3 pro by the end of the week
I'm looking forward to buy redmi note 3 pro has a great performance and longer battry i recommended it

[QUOTE] Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 or Note 4

Hi guys! I've been following your work since I got an old Moto Defy+ like... a gazillion years ago. I'm a big fan of the forum.
I've been rocking a basic Redmi 3 (non-Note) and it works great for the most part. But I'm seeing a lack of developing for it, like I appreciate the work of Anik and everything but apparently many people have choose the Note variant instead the barebones Redmi 3. So much is that, it apparently the Note 3 has recently received official CyanogenMod (correct me if I'm wrong).
So, the question: while I love my current Redmi 3, I'm quite excited to get a new phone before Christmas. I'm no a millionaire so no iPhone or Galaxy S7 Edge for me (nor even a Mi Mix, god I love that phone) so the options are:
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro (Global version, B4, B37 bands enabled)
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 4
The Note 3 seems to have ginormous support here in the forums and that's a huge plus, also the fact that comes with LTE B4, meaning I'll get full 4G coverage in my country and basically anywhere. Nevertheless, I'm afraid when
What do you think? If I buy a Redmi Note 3 NOW do I have any chance to have CM support for let's say 10 months/a year. I know it's all speculation but since many devs read the forums maybe they can give me hint. Also, whath's really the difference between the Note 3 and 4, apart from materials and the CPU they look the same.
Many many thanks!
The difference is very small, the note 4 is little more powerful, but if you want cm at this time buy note 3 , if you want see to future buy note 4
Snapdragon CPU have better future, at least in term of devs.
3d performance of RMN4 is worse than RMN3[SD] btw.

definetely redmi note 3...better dev support is everything for me & i love the support for this phone.
mtk device from xiaomi is a big no for me since my previous device is redmi note 2 and the support is very poor because we didn't have any source to build stable custom rom. xiaomi never released they source for mtk device.
Thanks guys! CM support is a huge advantage for me and while I love my current Redmi 3 it seems no many people develop for it.
This morning I bought a Note 3 Pro International Version (B4 and B28 LTE bands yahoo!). Waiting for its arrive.
BTW, GearBest, Aliexpress, DX are all having a sale day (I'm not affiliated in any form to those sites, just saying so you know).

I did not see that video and in no way I was expecting that kind of defeat by the RN3 against the 4. It literally obliterated it.
Sure, in math calculation is faster because it has 10 cores but man... That was criminal. Even happier now that I saw this! Thanks.

Xiaomi Redmi note 3 pro or Used Samsung note 4

Hi,
Thinking of getting either of these phones which would better? Thanks
Brand new xiaomi redmi note 3 Snapdragon version or Used Samsung Note 4 Snapdragon/exynos version
Without any doubt, go for RN3 Pro. With SD650 it's a beast. Also, as far as I know, there wouldn't be any official OTA updates from Samsung for Note 4. While Xiaomi will keep updating RN3 with latest MIUI for atleast 3 more years! So, your choice. What would you want - an abandoned Galaxy phone or a furure proof RN3. Not to mention the great development RN3 is having.
Depends on what you are looking for.
Samsung Note 4 has the slightly larger screen with more vivid colours, better cellular signal, replaceable battery, much better camera, S-Pen, and better overall GPU performance (for now, I don't know if Vulkan with the Adreno 510 will change that). It's pretty much stuck at Marshmallow and not even sure if it is getting security updates anymore as that is left to the carriers and most seem to have stopped doing that (in Canada at least).
Redmi has larger battery, better CPU performance, better fingerprint reader.
redmi better gpu !
So gaming performance redmi better?

How's the redmi vs Note 4 Exynos version?

Poco F1 or Redmi ?

I know, on paper, its no contest, But I am trying to decide between Redmi Note 8 and Poco F1. The difference between them is only £40
These are the important factors for me, the first 4 are must haves.
Good Battery life
Good Custom ROM support (now and future)
Headphone socket
SD Card
Notification LED
Reasonable Screen
Reasonable performance, (no gaming and was content with Redmi 5 Pro 4Gb Snapdrgon 636 until it broke)
I know the Poco F1 is much higher spec, but I dont really like the look (ugly cut out at the top and big bezel at the bottom). Plus because Redmi 8 is newer, I thought maybe better support for custom roms, in the future.
What do you think ?
I just bought my mum a Redmi note 8. Gotta say, it's a really nice phone for the price. She loves it
The F1 beats it pretty much all round though - note 8 has (arguably) slightly better battery life, the ir blaster is a nice gimmick and you can get an NFC version of the note 8 (a feature which I really miss), though that one doesn't have a notification light
I'd suggest you wait a couple of months for the note 9, but I suspect you'd still be better getting an F1!
The Poco F1 wins on nearly every spec. CPU,Graphics, BT, Memory, etc. The only problem with it, is that huge notch, large chin and bezels scream 2018 (in my mind).
Thanks for letting me know about the Redmi Note 9, seems like its imminent
My fear is that all Redmi phones will follow the Redmit 8 pro and have a mediatek chipset, rumoured below. That will kill chance of custom roms,. noones interested developing for Mediatek,

That's true, that the note 8 pro has a mediatek soc, but it's supposed to be very good. If rooting is your thing (used to be mine but I just don't have time these days - plus I can live with MIUI on my f1)
Still it will be outperformed by the F1, plus the RN 8pro will likely cost a good bit more than the F1
The F1 is not likely to get more first party firmware upgrades though. If rooting is your thing, get an f1 and have fun for as long as the battery lasts (the specs should hold up for 3 or 4 years)
Or save up and get the F2 when it launches (assuming it's not a turkey)
I usually always go for function over looks. Just abit background, it was my Redmi Note 5 pro *(Whyred) which recently died on me. Its a 636 Chipset and had 4Gb of RAM. And for me, I had zero performance issues with it for 18 months. I guess I am a light user. Thats why, on balance the Redmi 8 might be better for me (looks etc).
Just a quick one, no definites of course, but the Redmi note 9 seems imminent ? i.e March ish ?
I do get what you are saying about custom roms and time. However, I dont mind,

Poco X2 would be a great choice for you.:good:
Redmi note8 pro is on MediaTek Gaming chip! with more Ram,
both are on LCD
however poco has advantage of many Custom roms! kernels etc where i don't think with note 8 pro you will enjoy this !
check xda forums for note 8 pro for custom roms and kernel status!
Kcal is must on lcd to to fix color saturation!
