Impressed by the frequency of updates on this model - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I've received updates regularly on my N950F(xxU3CRF4 - 2 a month for the last few months and it seems Samsung has finally got their act together. Maybe because of the need to mitigate vulnerabilities and security issues. Today received VO LTE and the lockscreen movies update. Wish they would make their update notes a bit more meaningful though and explain what it includes than the generic "stability improvements".
Samsung gets a bad rap sometimes for updates but well done Sammy.

Well, not all the countries receive so many updates, I think that it is carrier and country dependant in most cases, in my country 2 carriers have received only 4 updates since Aug 2017, other carriers only 3

You're speaking of CRF4? I'm waiting for people to comment on it before I update. I'm scared that the Note will get buggy.

Not experienced any problems yet.

Yup I've noticed much better update frequencies on my N950F (UAE model, in Canada) than before with my old Note 4. So far I received an update every month here, and two in June.

Still on may security update lol. Samsung doesn't deserve any praise

A lot of it depends on the carrier. LG has generally been one of the first in line with updates these last couple of years. You should be happy T-Mobile isn't rushing out buggy software like AT&T. As of now I (and many others) think we were better off with the May edition software.
I guess that's true. I was upset it took them forever to release Marshmallow to my Tab S2 but no issues with it.

Isn't a tab s2 a samsung? Samsung are one of the slowest to update devices.
I do think the U.S get a raw deal with updates. Mine is on 1st June security patch I think or maybe 1st July, it's in for repair right now so not 100%.
Tab s2 is a Samsung but just saying how long T-Mobile took to roll out the update.
If autoprime did not release the v10e I would still be on c. I think it is unacceptable, have already complained at LG Netherlands and Vodafone Netherlands. Although both have responded quite quickly in the end the release speed sucks compared to other providers/brands

The european h870 will get oreo update

I was chatting with lg uk support.they says that g6 will get oreo in the near future.but they dont know the exact time.its a good news that oreo will release for g6 100 precent.

No ! Froyo is coming next week to G6
LG seems to have no love for the G6 in Europe, still being on the July Security patch clearly shows this.
Reason for this could possibly down to poor sales in Europe as the rapid drop in price since launch seems to reflect this somewhat.
Eitherway the G6 will get Oreo no doubt about that, the Asian Markets will get it first then other Market's with Europe more likely being last.
So don't be surprised if we don't see it until Spring next year at the earliest in Europe. :/

It' LGs fault that the phone is sold that bad in europe, because it's the worst version of G6 and not cheaper.
That the price is dropping that fast is a logical consequence...
If there would be better marketing (availability in stores) and support, the phone would sell much better!
Weird, I've got January 2018 security patch - much more recent than July. And, I'm in Europe too.

As far as I know January 2018 is the last security patch avaible for the H870 - I have that patch on my phone too.
Very disappointing.....we will update ....we will update....bla bla bla ....but when?
As a Canadian G6 user, I can tell LG could care less about the European market. I'm still waiting for Oreo on my device.
They keep saying they're gonna update the phone, yet they can't even give us a date for when the update is going to be released.
I know updating a phone is easier said than done, but why are they taking so goddamn long? I mean, they managed to get the V30 to Oreo within a year of its release. It can't be that difficult, can it?
I'd like to bring up the story of the forgotten LG G4 that only got Nougat in South Korea, because I think it's relevant to this. History tends to repeat itself.

When it comes to v30 there is only 2 weeks delay beetween Canada and Europe. And around 4 month between Canada and Korea. So if oreo for g6 hits Korea this month , maybe by the end of the year OTA will arive to Canada and Europe xD

LG Security Bulletins

I found a link(ignore if already seen), where in LG provides details about monthly security bulletin for their devices. Wondering why they don't roll out.

Not really that "monthly"...
Depending on regions and carriers, updates may be released monthly, quarterly or irregularly. LG plans to expand the list.

It's a shame our international G6 is so behind other devices which already got their updates. That's not what I expected when I bought this phone. Overall it's great but LG's support, in fact it's lack of support, sucks in many ways.
The best combo for me would be: G6 with OnePlus update schedule as it fixes their phones quickly and Apple update schedule for 3-4 years of updates
But why facilitate when you can make things more difficult?
Well, this is our punishment for buying a "budget" phone ? . I wonder how much would cost a LG flaghsip that receives monthly updates as Nokia. As an owner also of a Nokia 5, I must say that I.m impressed by their commitement, since they issued every month security patches and some days ago they pushed oreo beta with december patch.

2 year old Moto G Turbo, and LGs flagship G6, both are on Oct security patch.
Not all G6. Some in Israel, Turkey, Latin America. Mine is Europe open and is on July patch...

Android patch still Feb?

Sm-g965U1 still on Feb patch.... Is that normal?

It's crazy, my Wife's Note 8 got the May patch already. My S6 has April and my S9+ has February, WTH?
Maybe they're cooking up a big update or something and it's taking time.
The absolute worst part of owning a Samsung phone is the horrible firmware update process. They just plain don't give a crap after they have sold you the $1000 device!!
Even China ZTE is better!!!
I have the may 1st security patch. I purchased the unlocked model through Samsung and then flashed the T-Mobile firmware. I've been getting updates from T-mobile's server. I would check Samsung firmware science and flash the latest update available.

Nothing yet. Still Feb. Kinda pisses me off...going almost into June and still on old security. I went to SAMMOBILE and they don't even list a SM-G965U1...do I have some mysterious rogue phone? Geesh!!

Question POLL | I'm I the only one still on Security Patch Level: January 2023?

My S23 Ultra (European EUX OXM) hasn't been updated with the February 2023 Security Patch Level. I'm on S918BXXU1AWA6.
Though, I recently updated my S21 Ultra (AUT) and strangely it's more updated than my S23 Ultra .
2023-02-15 | 12:30 (CET)
EDIT: Added a poll in order see when the February Patch will be released.
No. You're not the only one
Sane for me too and my wife's 23+
they probably will releases an update before/on the official launch day (Friday 17th)

We are sit on pre released software... wait until 17th for official release of the phones.
No one will be on the February release....apart from beta testers....until the release date.

Main components 2023-02-01 S+, from apkmirror. Till this morning i had also only the januari update, now i am on the feb one.
After installing apk, force stop of Play store apk, Play Services apk, and delete both cache, then reboot. You should have the feb one.

I think you do not know, but there is quite major difference between google play and security patch.
Yeah I think it'll be tomorrow ah about 9ish, that's what happened last year anyway
Anyway, incredible that this device is so good with pre release firmware.
Imagine if with time they will further improve camera and battery life

You are right, my mistake
Samsung is a lot better with updates. The only reason you wouldn't get an update on time is if there's a bad bug that requires fixing and the update got pulled. Also South Korea obviously gets updates first followed by Europe. USA gets updates anywhere from 3-5 days to 1-2 weeks after Europe does. From my experience on previous Galaxy's it was always about 1 week after updates went out in Europe for my USA Galaxy to get updated.

I wish I could agree, but where I am, the security updates have been sporadic at best, last one in S21ULTRA was the January sec patch delivered February 21. More often than not in 2022 two security updates were delivered at the same time, almost 3 months later than the Pixel.
Oh I was confused glad I'm not the only one.

where are you from? I guess it also depends on your country since there may be special circumstances, specific carriers or government approval, ect. that is delaying your update since once Samsung sends out updates in S. Korea their should be no reason why you are not getting the update unless your country or your specific carrier is holding it back. It used to be really bad here in the USA but the last 3 years I have seen a huge improvement in the update schedule for Samsung devices.
my s23 ultra security patch Jan 2023.
Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G security patch Feb 2023.
no day one patch so far with the security patch for february
I think they decided the phone is perfect already, **** the updates
Yeah, just checked for new OTA software updates.
Also checked on Sammobile Firmware.
No luck
