How to install Magisk without TWRP? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hi,
i had TWRP before, but because of the lack of OTA compatibillity, i removed it.
So i am now trying to find an way to get MAGISK running without needing TWRP.
I read a lot about this particular way, but in my mind i am at an dead end...
so what i found:
patching boot.img and reflash it, sounds plausible, but how shall i get an dump, without root :/
using HWOTA, but i do not understand how it should work, it seems to use prepatched images, but i am wondering if they are compatible with the latest firmware (bla-l29 8.0.0.145(c432)), as they are using an modified kernel? (sry no expert in android images^^)
Thanks in advance
Daniel

Bumping in. I'm also on the same boat.

Use this guide to extract ramdisk.img https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/guide-extracting-stock-firmware-files-t3756733
If update link brings you back to the search on TeamMT click the file list link and copy paste update.zips link to download.
Then transfer ramdisk.img to phone and patch in Magisk Manager, then transfer back and flash in fastboot mode.

Well looks like the root is going away from our devices

[Q] LRX21L to LRX21R while rooted using OTA URL zip

Hey! I am having problem flashing the OTA zip (LRX21L-->LRX21R). It simply wont let me sideload the .zip file because my device can't be found after i reboot to the bootloader. Can anyone please help me with this?
My device has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted using Chainfires first root for the nexus 9. Thanks in advance!

Flash the 21l boot.img in fastboot. Then try the ota. Chain fire modified the boot image and that's why it isn't working
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
Where do i get that 21l img file? And how to flash if fastboot is not recognized? I have twrp installed, could someone provide a flashable zip? Thanks

Yeah...., I could go with this too, actually. I had pretty much everything from the board loaded. Including @Chainfire 's recov. I then later attempted to update the *poluza rom parts. It was failing any which way I tried in or out of twrp. Unfortunately, I am not much of a fastboot user, nor twrp.
I thought that maybe it had something to do with this updated vendor img. By the time I was done I had reformatted several times and started from scratch not leaving out steps. As far as I know. With just these images and no device trees nor a proper updater script, there is no way to tell really.
Currently and for a few days, it's been down to bare metal, and only a fastboot to look at. lol
I can't even seem to make a new factory image flash.
Never since my first android have I been this lost frankly.....
Maybe they have them now, I will look but it would also be helpful if the guys used a bit of ......'if.....then......' in their 'OP's'
"If you are using the included recovery, then......"
"If you are using this recovery then do......."
"If you wanted to use @Chainfire s recovery, then simply paste it......."
etc.
Could anyone possibly help and provide a way to update??? I unlocked bootloader and I am rooted, but now I want to have a working way to update....ANY HELP??
I found a solution: check out the video and download his tool...he did a great job there and it worked like a charm for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kii-L05 (Canada) - Stuck on boot logo

Hi everyone,
I've recently messed up terribly on the Canadian model of this phone. The model # is KII-L05 and the problem is that I'm stuck on the logo screen when booting.
I was unable to flash a custom ROM properly and have no backups. I have TWRP 3.1.1-0 installed and have tried flashing cm12.1, cm-13.0, lineage-13.0 and lineage-14.1 with the proper gapps to no success. I also tried eRecovery (with a lot of trouble getting to it using the Vol+/- because it loads TWRP 99% of the time) but it won't detect the dload/UPDATE.APP that I acquired from the Canadian Huawei support site nor will it update via wifi.
I've run out of ideas so I'd appreciate some assistance in finding a solution either getting back to stock ROM(firmware?) or a custom ROM that supports this model.
If there's already an answer posted, please pass along the link as I've come up with nothing searching and following most of what's been said before.
Thanks,
You just have an option to restore the backup if someone can share it.

I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to that...
For clarity, would that be using TWRP to restore the backup or using the eRecovery/UPDATE.APP method?
I'll try my luck in the file repository to see if anyone has it.

TWRP backup and dload method. any of them could work

Extract your update.app using a program like 7zip -- it should contain a boot.img file. Use the ADB method to manually flash the file.
While your at it, if there is a system.img file -- flash that as well.

It may not work and dload will be best option here.
Fastboot may not allow him anymore to flash anything

I mentioned in my original post that I have no backups. Unfortunately, that includes me not having stock recovery to start from scratch.
My current eRecovery doesn't recognize anything I put into dload nor does it update via wifi.
I'm currently outreaching to Huawei Canada (been more than a few days without a response) as well as friends/coworkers that may have the phone that can help with no success.

No backups, that includes anywhere internal or external of the phone in question. Already tried the Huawei site and they have Marshmallow - I suspect I need anything older that's on Lollipop.

Unfortunately there are no official firmware yet for this mate. I tried looking for you but couldn't get any. Its just OTA and not full firmware that could help you with dload.

Wiil try and do
U think it will work on L24?
A bit of context here - my device model is BND-L34 (Mate SE) and I had tried using a method that a user posted in a Mate SE specific thread that detailed how to manually update to Oreo.
Well, that failed miserably and I ended up with a bricked device. I had tried numerous different things to try and revive it (some that I had come up with on my own) and none of them worked. Then I thought to use Multi-Tool to unbrick it with a backup I had lying around but unfortunately it was a Nougat backup.
I had almost lost hope until stumbling upon this thread. I figured I had nothing else to lose so I decided to try to restore my phone with Multi-Tool and your backup files - all except for the system image because MEGA decided to **** block me due to it being a large file (you should definitely upload them elsewhere, by the way), so what I did was use a stock system image someone uploaded in the OpenKirin RROS thread along with the rest of your backup files.
I had also gotten a stock ramdisk_recovery.img file from somewhere else (forgot where but if anyone has trouble finding a stock recovery for Oreo I can upload mine). And VOILA (hope I spelled that right)! My device is back to life on Oreo and I couldn't be more happy.
SO all in all, even if you didn't intend for L34 users to use these files, I want to thank you!
System image I used (see post #2)

Thanks man, it's great..:good::good::good::good::good:

If twrp works, there is a patch file that you can use to unlock frp.
MOD EDIT: LINK REMOVED
Would be helpful to understand what caused this problem though.

Ok. Some reason twrp does not good a good job with factory resets.
I suggest flash that frp unlock.zip
Then flash stock ramdisk.img and stock kernel.img.
That will remove magisk, for now anyway.
Then try to boot. If still not, then flash stock recovery and do factory reset. But if reset again locks frp. You will be stuck.
If you dont mind resetting from fresh system maybe just reflash with hurupdater or hwota, instead of flashing stock recovery.

Amazfit Stratos - how to root stock (international) ROM... anyone?

Hi all,
perhaps I am just getting to old - but I cannot seem to find the simple guide on how to root stock, international ROM. I have 2.3.2.7
Please note I am NOT asking how to flash the modded rom, but instead - how to root the newer Amazfit stock rom.
Many thanks in advance!!
Unlock bootloader, go to fastboot mode, boot using a modified boot.img with temporary (adb) root.
If you find a way to root Android 5.1 on a MIPS device, please tell me...
Hi thanks for the effort - I missed to mention I already tried that before posting.
Issue is that after flashing boot.img, watch loses adb connection and I cant proceed.
Reboot helps but temp boot image is no longer there, and then process gets back fo start.
Any help?

Don't flash the modified boot.img, use it to get temporary root access in adb:
Code:
fastboot boot boot_with_root_adb.img
Keep the original boot.img that came with the ROM/firmware intact, so if you run into any problem a simple reboot should fix it.
Once you have a temp adb root privilege by doing like lfom mentioned, then follow this https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/amazfit/local-root-amazfit-watch-supersu-2-79-t3711327

Works fine on my English stock rom.
There are some small mistakes in one of the sh scripts. I forgot exactly what I modified, but I can attach my modified script when I get home tonight.
Edit: Modified script attached
Just replace the original script with the attached one. All credits go to the original poster. I just modified his script a bit to root my rom.
My pace is currently on rooted stock 1.3.8a rom. As long as you can get root privileges from the temp kernel, I don't see why it wouldn't work on any other rom. It should also work on Stratos. I don't know for sure as I don't have one to try.
Thanks for all the help.
Happy again. Using Assayyed ROM kitchen and Saratoga's official 2.3.2.7 ROM thread I was able to mod the official rom and flash it back to device.
Kudos to all

As far as I know there are two kinds of root.
1- if you want to install something through adb usb that requires root you can make a temporary root, see for instance post 2 from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/amazfit/rom-amazerom-pace-v1-0-20180618-t3805928
2- if you need root to use some app (e.g. to modify the DPI in the watch using the app "screen shift" version 1.0.0) you can flash the superSu using the script provided by anox in post 7 of this thread, for that you may need to make the temporary root first
you can then verify if you are rooted using for instance some of those apps in playstore.
by the way, browsers now work with the last version of Pacefield, so I prefer pacefield (that is already rooted and permanent) than the stock rom

at the time I flashed the superSU I had a stock ROM installed (found here in the forum, I don't remember which one). Then I made a temporary root (the img was found here in the forum too). Finally I use this temporary root to flash the superSU zip, I had to use the script provided by Anox here in this thread, instead of the original one.
If you cannot flash superSU, you may want to flash a custom ROM with perm root, I have using this in the last months: https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/amazfit/paceficator-project-wos-2-6-0-12-rom-v0-t3794922
you can also find other custom roms in the forum, also for stratos.
sorry I cannot help you more

I'm looking for a specific boot.img. it's in the title.. you need to use the msm download tool to revert back to stock. Sounds like your partitions are messed up and I assume they weren't backed up. I was hard bricked at one point and the msm tool was the only way for me to fix it all and revert back to stock. Make sure it's the correct msm tool for your phone though.

Can you send me the link for the specific boot.img I'm looking for by chance? It's the 11_C.10 version.

Why you can't just unlock it again? Do you have the the T-Mobile version?
The bootloader is encrypted and OnePlus's token just gives you the private to match the public encryption that keeps the bootloader from being edited. In theory if you can discover what file type one plus's token is in and eextract that and somehow dump your bootloader you could possibly manually decrypt it.
Do you have access to a Personal Computer? I could offer some links to a few programs that may be worth trying. I doubt it could hurt trying.
I could use teamviewer to try to use my tools to force your bootloader to unlock also if you happen to not find a solution.

Pretooted, that's funny as can be. A pretooted sideload so he can pull his own.
Ok so 2 things..
1st: Jayram1408, for being a senior member I'm really surprised you'd laugh at me for asking a question or not knowing something. Usually this is a safe place to learn, ask questions, and receive feedback that's positive and informative. I don't know if you think others will laugh at me with you but I doubt it
2nd: I don't know what is funny in the first place, pre-rooted GSI for DSU Sideloading purposes do exist and that's a fact. It makes it so you can use Partitions Backup & Restore properly when the GSI is loaded. Please read https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...g-boot-image-and-making-your-backups.4499447/
Hopefully that catches you up with the rest of us and hopefully in the future you are but more helpful then hurtful to members within the community.
Hey All,
I am trying to root my Nord N20, but am getting a bootloop when trying to boot boot_a after flashing a magisk25210canary patched boot_b image over boot_a. I am flashing a patched boot_b image over boot_a because I am too scared to flash magisk patched boot_b over boot_b (which contains the working OS). My version information is:
android 12
Build: GN2200_11_C.11 Kernel:5.4.147-qgki-ga9e7460afd8c
