S9 Plus for elderly person - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Hi, I have an elderly person in the family who really cannot read text on the phone unless it is like text 64.
Is there any way that I can modify settings on the S9 Plus to have the below:
Huge icons
Big text, especially in phone book catalogue and weather app like Yahoo Weather
Huge clock on lock screen and home screen
I have looked into it and it seems that there is an easy mode.
I was thinking of doing easy mode + maximum font size and maybe then she can be able to read the names off the phone and use it with poor vision.
Anyone have any thoughts or can post any screenshots of what the phonebook list/contact would look like with maximum font size and easy mode?
Thanks so much! Wanted to test this but didn't have a Samsung phone on hand. Also couldn't find this mode on the demo phones at carrier stores.
Thanks so much for your help everyone.

Fonts are too small to read.

Hi There, have a Tytn, nice large screen but am unable to read without my specs. Have set on largest fonts in settings but does not help with the incoming call details, so cant see who is calling until i put my specs on...really inconvenient. Is there any software out there that can help?
Thanks
You have your Text set to the Largest font correct?? Settings\screen\text size.
Large Fonts
I have set to largest but it is still too small. Purchased "Address Book" from Inesoft and that helps, still would like to see something more functional. Anybody out there with the know how up to it?

Questions...

Hello!
I am wondering why my G5 doesnt display my contacts photographs when they phone me, i know its a small thing but id like to see their photo on the screen, it just shows an empty box where on my contact list it shows their images from facebook- any ideas?
Also i was wondering where i can find high quality wallpapers for my Galaxy 5 as most of the images i find are extremely low quality and i like to have nice clean crisp home screens, finally is their any ADW theme in the AndroidMarket that gives me the following effect:
On my dock bar it will say 'ContactList' instead of an icon, 'AppDrawer' instead of the icon, 'PhoneCalls' instead of an icon etc.
Thank you, very much!

[Q] Android for visually impaired

Hello,
As my sister is visually impaired, i was searching for magnification tools on an android device.
Her problem is that when she writes a text, she can't see what she's typing because it's too small.
Actually, a fully magnified android interface would be great, but I don't know if it exists...
She has no device yet, because we don't want to spend money for a one she can't use.
So if you know a device that integrates such features, or some usefull apps for visually impaired people... (She don't want screen readers, also).
And well, if an iPhone or a Windows Phone is better, you can say it
Thanks,
Fabien
ps : sorry for my english, i'm french
You could just get a large android device (e.g. Samsung Galaxy Note).
Well, i have a HTC Sensation, and it's not better, because the font size is adapted to the large resolution...
As someone who is in the same shoes, I highly recommend Handcent SMS. Completely adjustable font sizes on every single thing. I love it. No more eye strain or anything.
Handcent SMS is definitely a good option as you can easily customize the text size.
If you root the phone (not for everyone) you can adjust the DPI that will affect every app on the phone. You can see the effects in some of the images here: bit.ly/vfhzHn
So, i've searched a little on the market, and here is what i've found :
- Launcher 7 (for big icons on the launcher, and for its simplicity)
- Handcent SMS (all font magnified)
- DW Contacts (in order to magnify the list of contacts and the dialer)
All this apps helped a lot for my sister, but if you see how I can improve...
Thanks !

^Else if you have a device which has CyanogenMod7 in it, then you may simply use Spare Parts to increase the overall font size.
I guess it is also available in the market for other ROM's as well, not sure about that!

It is available: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.droidgram.spareparts&feature=search_result. Another usable app is LCD Density Changer: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.beansoft.lcd_density_changer&hl=en.
this is my solution
I made a app these days and now i published it on market
it is called ScreenZooM. Search for it (icon is a magnifier with a big green +)
i will atach a qrcode image
i can't post links

[Q] Has anyone developed a user manual?

Hi All,
First off, I LOVE themer! I've been using Apex Launcher for some time on my HTC OneX (rooted, ARHD 31.3 ROM) and I've often gazed with longing at the home screens that some people have designed using UCCW, knowing that I'll necer have the time (or the artistic flair) to design my own. Now I can!
But there seems to be SO many customization options on Themer, and I'm a little overwhelmed. For instance, I'm using a theme with an RSS feed as a central tile, but I'd love to be able to change that to a 'favourite apps' tile. I'm sure the option is there, but I can't work it out. So, has anyone developed/is working on/knows of a Themer user guide?
I work on a cruise ship and internet access is slow and expensive (£10 for 167 minutes!) so I really don't have time to surf around looking for answers to design questions.
SO, does such a guide exist? If so, please point me in the right direction. If not, is anyone up to the challenge?:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
The video is kind of like a user guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474039

Thanks miles_muso for your kind words! Yes the video vhngu930 provided is a good one, but for your problem I can help here. See the thing is that you'd first have to delete that RSS icon and then hold down on the homescreen > Themer Actions > Favorite Apps. Now you'll have a massive heart (we're working on adding icon packs soon), which you'll be able to edit. If you hold down on the icon > edit > tap the icon, you'll be able to replace it with an icon image. You can maybe try here for icon images which may help, they by Jeppe Foldager and the small whites and darks should help for now: https://www.copy.com/s/DxsaXLatvBGf/Share/Icons
Hope this helps!

Messages app - change font size?

Using the Samsung Messages app on my Verizon S9+, I am unable to permanently change the font size in the actual conversation screen. Yes, you can pinch to shrink and expand font size but that gets reset to standard size every time (unlike on the S7 Edge where it remembered your size preference).
Through Settings, you can globally adjust font size but the only Messages screen this affects is the main Conversation screen which shows all conversations. Once you click on a conversation, normal font size is presented. Frustrating for my old eyes...
UPDATE: Ironically, when you adjust Font Size in Settings, if you swipe the sample screen above the sliders, it shows you a sample Messages screen and the font size does change in the sample, but it does NOT change in the actual Messages app. Sounds like a bug to me as they are depicting what I want to do, just doesn't work.
I'd like to use the stock app as it has some features that are unique. There must be a way to change the font size so the setting is persistent, no?
Seeing the same also. Hard for my aging eyes to see.
And also finding it doesn't follow the global setting for size. Same as you.
Same issue. I don't think you can change the font size just for the Message app.
I when back to my beloved and trusted Textra SMS app.
It changes when you change the font size in display settings font.

As I mentioned in my post, this is not true. On my phone, changing the font size in display setting ONLY affects font size in the main Conversations view. Once you click on an actual conversation, the font size returns to the default tiny size.
You can get a newer version on apkmirror.com but it wont allow updating samsung apps for some reson. Anyone have the latest version of messages signed by samsung that will install?
They need ro bring back the S8 messaging app which has this inbuilt feature to adjust text. Wonder, why they ripped off that useful feature.

It doesnt stick.
I updated my original post with this tidbit:

Hopefully Samsung will acknowledge this bug and release a new version of the app. Clearly the global Font Size Setting is supposed to do exactly this.
Same thing. Very frustrating

It's really not that hard to pinch zoom. Takes a half second. Sure, it'd be nice if it would stick but, c'mon man.
I had a problem with the Background colors in the Messaging ap - some of the themes I like to use are really awesome but when I get to the messaging ap, they used yellow fonts on a white background - nearly impossible to read. I either have to use a different messaging ap entirely (Mood is a pretty good one I found that has TONS of customization options) or just guess at what was written - or change themes.
It's dissapointing that I can't change the balloons or fonts in the messaging ap any more - would be nice if we could - and change font size too - so for now, I am using the MOOD messaging ap and while I prefer the Samsung Stock one better - Mood isn't bad at all.
Its not only internal Messages app, Viber and Hangouts has really small font in input line. Tried increasing font size, tried toying with DPI settings. No idea why its like that and only affecting text input lines, but hope some later update could fix that?
Hi Everyone..I just got the 9 plus and the messaging app is different than it used to be. It is just blue bubbles with white background. It wont let me change anything like before and the setting the background wallpaper for messages is no longer there....is that how everyone else's is?
I also switched to Textra for the all of the customization that it offers. It's a free download so I gave it a try and I've stuck with it since. Just my 2¢

No, not "come on man". It should work as designed, and has worked since GSI-II.
I use Chomp. Let's you change all of the fonts and sizes, including the message notification pop-up.

I think you mean, "It should work the way I want it to work." It IS working as designed. It's just that you don't like the new design.
That's not to say that I don't agree that it would be better if we could choose a persistent font size. I do.
But we're talking about a split-second pinch out to increase the size.
A split-second.
So, yeah... C'mon.

Thousands of people having to take a split-second to adjust for a design bug every single time? No. You're missing the point.
