Quick question - Honor 10 Questions & Answers

What is the best way to install gapps on a phone with China rom?so everything will work as normal.
I saw it`s a way to install from recovery. can you do it with stock one?are there any risks?
And another with a google app installer v2 that does all the work.
Any opinions?

You will need certified gapps and google certified firmware. Im not saying its impossible but it takes a lot of work. I dont mean to discourage you but in your case I would use alternative stores to be honest like apkpure after i debload the **** out of the chinese firmware

Its not the case at honor 10 i think, mine came clean and with gapps insalled and certified. But they were installed by the seller.
Thats why i was asking how, in case of reset.

Well i guess you will need to add custom recovery like TWRP and try different versions to see whats work or not. For that i would searxh in lineageOs foruna to see whats updated and working on oreo 8.1 x64

I dont want to risk and change the rom, just install google apps, or at least the ones i use.
I find a way by installing GMSInstaller.apk + Google installer v2. Cant test it, but i think it works.

Xposed Framework available?

Is there a Xposed version working with the Honor 7?
Can I use this version? http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6/general/xposed-framework-huawei-t2976210
You should be able to use the v74 for arm 64bit. I'm not that sure, but it should be compatible with that version. Maybe try to ask in the xPosed Q&A
Bump
Anyone successfully installed xposed then?
Had a bootloop after flashing xposed-v74-sdk21-arm64. Xposed-uninstaller corrected boot. Maybe next version will solve bootloop.
edit: same as in the first thread.. sorry..
Hey all
I'm wondering about buying a Honor 7 but would really like to have fully working xposed framework
Now that v75 is out, with both sdk21 and sdk22, has someone tried ?
honor 7 should work with v75 sdk22 arm64 ...
has someone tried and can report please ?
thanks !
I've tried both v75 versions and my phone bootloop with the sdk21. Uninstaller fix the problem.
Sdk22 does not install.
I'm still waiting

It's an awesome phone but the software needs tweaking (view my forum posts)
mmm imho we have to try the wms tool (the xiaomi version of xposed) as this EMUI is really similar to the MIUI.... have anyone tired this ?
Try and let us know
unfortunatly i use the phone mostly for work and the probability that i have to investe more than half a day to do this test, in this moment is not possibile.
(consider that i put two sim card + the microsd inside the phone, so it can be really hard or even impossible to open the sim tray again without breaking something.... also the possibility to swap the sims in another phone during the test is not so easy )

Thank you for posting that up! I was also looking for Xposed Framework.
I am also wondering if there is any Mod available for Huawei Honor 7 (PLK-L01)?
(CyanogenMod, ParanoidAndroid, AOKP, Slim Bean, PAC-man ROM, Carbon ROM, Vanilla Rootbox, OmniROM, SlimROMs, MIUI, AOSB... etc).
I just try the xposed-v78-sdk21-arm64.zip and it still bootloop.

LineageOS 15.1 on P10

Project Treble made it possible to install LineageOS on a P10 running on Oreo (not mine, yet). More info on the Honor View 10 forum: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-view-10/development/rom-lineageos-15-1-t3753000/post75665202

So I have it installed and it boots. The issue I keep encountering is with Google Services Framework popping up all the time, so I can't get past the setup screen. Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: Never mind. Just installed stock recovery and did a dalvik cache wide/format. Up and running!

Best rom for stability and most vanilla android experience

For ages I have tried to avoid rooting my phone, mainly due to Google Pay. But with the constant issues and also now that I've just purchased bPay for my watch anyway, I no longer need Google Pay.
Even though my phone is not rooted, most apps thought it was.. so even the fixes only worked so far.. so screw it. haha.
I would like to root my phone and try and make my Xiaomi as close to vanilla Android as possible. What roms would people suggest?
Is the Xiaomi a wise phone to modify? Will I loose any features (camera etc)?
I have only really ever used OnePlus One devices, and other phones I have always relied on Google Pay access, so its been awhile since I rooted a phone and I have a feeling things may have changed a fair bit.. maybe even become more simple?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
My device; Mi 8 128GB, chinese import. Arrived with unlocked bootloader and global rom.. somehow.. even though global wasnt available at the time.. have since has xiaomi.eu rom, most recent on the device. But im finding its waaay to buggy and im very eager to get rid of this.
try pixel experience
stock experience like the pixel 3 xl
almost the same camera if not better
great battery life stable and way smoother than miui 10
I was In a similar predicament
I went for havoc and find its fantastic
Similar to pixel experience but with more added features
Has gcam implemented already

pixel experience rom has everything that a pixel phone has including the amazing gcam
Use syberia! aosp based like all but best battery so far
You can try pixel experience, I'm using it for a while now and never thought of changing to another rom. This will be my permanent rom I guess. Pixel3ROM is also nice, but it's just a port so the dev heavily refuses to add compatibility features like IR camera support for face unlock etc. So main features of the device won't work kn that one.
LineageOS is just another option, but it feels so empty compared to Pixel Experience. Yes, it can be customized but it'll never get the capabilities of Pixel Experience, due to official Rom policies of LOS.
And another thing, my device is rooted and I'm using PE, and Google Pay is working.

About camera, it hss a Google Camera port that I can't really remember the name of dev, and you can flash the miui camera port from Magisk if you need that either.
If you have any questions about this rom, I'd love to answer them, I can consider myself as an experienced user of it I guess. I used miui for 2 weeks thanks to bootloader unlock timer, and believe me, when you switch, you will feel like tons of weight just pulled out of your shoulders.
Thanks everyone this is all really helpful to know. Sounds like Pixel Experience is the one to try first.

This is really handy to know. I was thinking today that maybe rooting etc my phone myself properly would give me better control over getting that set up to work properly.
One more thing, just checking over the instructions and a little lost on some bits;
Flash Instructions
1. Download ROM zip.
2 . Advanced Wipe: System, Data, Cache and Dalvik/cache - Already have TWRP from installing Xiaomi.eu rom.
3. Flash latest MIUI or Xiaomi.eu beta. - This step confuses me.. if I already have a xiaomi.eu rom installed, I presume I would skip this?
4. Flash Pixel Experience.
5. Flash Dm-verity and reboot into TWRP (Only if you're coming from MIUI stock. Skip that if you're coming from another custom ROM) - Guessing again, I would skip this as I am already on TWRP? Unsure what dm-verity is..
6. Advanced Wipe: Data
7. Reboot & enjoy.
Some background on the current config phone wise. Imported a Mi 8 before it was released globally, nor even a date was released at that point. The phone arrived with global rom I believe.. the bootloader was already unlocked however and it was in English, so I am unsure how they had the global rom on it.. unless was the chinese one in English? Eitherway. I just followed the usual guide to flashing Xiaomi.eu on the phone. TWRP was already on it, but it is a chinese version, in english, but with chinese text on the loading screen.. unsure if normal?
Thanks again!

You can't skip the 3rd step since you're wiping the system partition, vendor and/or firmware files will be gone, which are not included with the rom.
At 5th, https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389 After flashing this, reboot to recovery in order to do advanced wipe. Just follow the steps, don't be lazy!
Not sure about your phone, but there are a high chance of being a Chinese variant of your phone, check the rear glass for CE certificate logo, if there are any chinese text, your phone is a chinese variant. In this situation, be careful to not lock your bootloader.

Thanks this is really helpful.
When I got the phone there was a sticker on the back which was in Chinese, all the packaging was too. The text printed on the phones actual case is in English however.
Update: All done and all was a success. Thanks everyone!
Tried Pixel Experience - battery drain was so extreme had to flash another rom..
So now trying Havoc.. way too many bugs, no sound on alarms, phone stops responding to touch.. ergh. Battery is good though.. haha.
Looking like there may not be any rom which isnt free of bugs or battery drain on the Mi 8..
Sadly Google Pay, with Magisk and hide, does not work on any rom. Altho I managed to get another banking app to work by using Magisk hide ironically.

+1 that. Everything works perfect for me on AOSIP and I've been using it as my daily driver for a week now.

using GCAM in LineageOS

Hello,
I was wondering if one needs to install Google services such as MicroG in order to use GCAM? I don't really want to install MicroG unless necessary. As far as I know I would need to install MicroG on a fresh LineageOS ROM and it wouldn't be possible afterwards.

I'm in stock rom rn but planned to flash custom rom later because i just apply to unlock the bootloader 6 days ago , probably 3 hours from now I'll use custom rom, i think gcam has nothing to do with MicroG or any google play services , so you don't have to worry about it
i just installed a custom gsi rom and i can confirm that it support gcam , just need to find the right one , i use pixelcam v1 and it works just fine

[CLOSED] Rick's Rom DUB5 SM-N986U1 Snapdragon Safe Update To One UI 3.1

First, I am not responsible to what happens after you flash this. If your phone dose not work afterwords it is your own doing. I didn't force you to flash it..
This is a stock rom for the most part for the Snapdragon Note 20 Ultra U1 that I use as my daily driver. I disabled file encryption, removed knox, fixed screen cast and shealth plus Bluetooth and smartwatch pairing. Most of the Google apps are uninstallable. I'll try to keep this up to date every month the best I can. Enjoy.
You Must Have A Unlocked Bootloader and a SM-N986 U1 or U Ultra to proceed. This Might Wipe Your Data!! Make a Back up!!.
Instructions:
1: Flash with Odin in the respective slots (bl, ap, cp and csc).
2: Wipe and format data in recovery if coming from a different rom or android version.
3: Reboot and set it up.
Enjoy.
See this thread or this thread if you need a unlock. The teams there are great!
Built With SuperR's Kitchen
Thanks @afaneh92 for the unlock and TWRP
Thanks @bklyn_syed for sharing the fixes for Bluetooth and shealth.

I don't think so but I'm really not sure, I haven't looked into it. The big deal for me is downloading more firmware, keeping track of more files, storage space and time. Honestly it's pretty simple to build your own. You can get all the info you need for that here .

I was sitting here debating on whether to go with 10 or 11 lol. Durrr me...I'm all for a custom cleaned up ROM any day over the untouched stock firmware. I see that your ROM is on the latest 11 (CUA1). Nice!
Since your tweaking the universal U1 firmware and since there isn't any carrier bloatware in there, is there much to really remove to make it even more lean and lighter? I know in the old days those firmware's were loaded with bloat and by removing them helped it a lot.
I also noticed that the latest 11 file size was smaller than the latest 10. From what you can see is that from just making 11 more efficient, thus making it lighter?
Regarding the change log:
Disabled File Encryption - Is that for the entire device file encryption or the built in folder encryption that was disabled? What are the benefits from disabling this? Does it just make it smoother even if you don't use the encryption feature on the device?
Removed Knox - Does using a smart watch to use Samsung Pay etc... still a work around even with the device knox removed?
Are there any settings to be able to tweak camera settings to improve the camera? iirc back in the Note 3 and 4 days, a Dev said that there was a value in the image quality or something that was set to I think 8 instead of the max 10? He had maxed that out and included that in the ROM... I'm curious if such adjustments exist in the 11?
Does the CUA1 have the baked in Microsoft Swiftkey (VIRUS) or is that only on carrier firmware's?
I have the Unlocked varaint of the Note 20 Ultra straight from Samsung. Oddly, it came with firmware ATGO, which is ATT lol.. but I'm on TM. What has been annoying is that I can't uninstall the darn microsoft swiftkey.
I love Swiftkey as a keyboard (best touch accuracy IMO), but despise the intrusivemness, so I like to use my own tweaked swiftkey with the internet premissions removed w/ using AFWall+ to block everything else. ie...
The thing is that I haven't been able to install the tweaked swiftkey due to it not letting me since the stock MS one is baked in...
