Bought a new US S9+ 256gb Unlocked and TMobile LTE is Slow/No Connection. - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Hi all, I just bought a new Samsung S9 plus 256gb US version unlocked from Samsung's website and I have TMobiles unlimited one plan. The Sim card I got was in my old ZTE Blade V8 Pro unlocked (you can probably guess why I bought a new phone). After putting the SIM card in the new phone for about a few hours it was a night and day difference where places I tested my LTE speed was 30mbs verses 6-8 on the old phone and the internet loaded quicker.
However, later in the day I started getting no connection or slow speeds and sometimes got edge+ connections in places where even my crappy V8 Pro would get connections. I called TMobile and gave them my phone's emei number and the Sim number that I used. At first it worked better but I still get less bars of reception and there are times when it takes a while for a LTE connection when there is no wifi. I even get LTE+ and it will still load some things like twitch streaming slow.
Someone suggested flashing TMobile firmware to the phone to try help connecting to their network like their branded phone's, but I have no idea what file to download for TMobile firmware for Odin to flash. Also, would it help to get updates from TMobile faster? People who have a TMobile sold S9+ are getting the new delayed update but my unlocked phone isn't. Thanks for your time.

I can say with a great deal of confidence that flipping firmware will not resolve this problem. It sounds like a hardware issue to me.

[Q] Imported DNA

This may be a bit of a noob question but I'm new to HTC.
I've imported a DNA into the UK and I'm using my UK SIM without any problems, the only question I have is in the network selection, does anyone know if I should use "Global" or "UMTS/GSM" settings?
I've put my APN settings in for my network and the phone is showing the "H" symbol next to the signal which makes me think I'm getting HSPA but the data speeds seem really slow and I'm unsure if I should change the network selection. There aren't any CDMA networks in the UK or any 700Mhz LTE networks.
Thanks!
I would use GSM/UMTS, but if you are getting an HSPA+ signal than you should be fine on Global.
Can you help me though. I too imported the DNA and I'm using it in London. However my Google Play Store is not working properly. I only have access to the Apps category. I can't access the Music, Books or Movies storefronts even when using their respective apps.
Is yours the same? Can you try it with both your SIM in and not in please. At the moment I haven't got a EE micro SIM to test if my problems are due to a lack of SIM card. So I'm only using it on WiFI.
Thanks.

I've tried accessing Play both with my sim card in and sim card out and it's working fine, just for the record, I'm using a 3 UK sim in the phone and I've not had any problems whatsoever, just as I said, my data speeds seem a little slow compared to what I was getting with my Galaxy S3 with the same sim in it.
The reason mine may be working without the SIM is because I'd already set up Play with the sim in when I got the phone so it's still active without the sim inside. Ur play account may not properly work until you put a sim in the phone.
Hope u get it worked out!
Thanks for the response mate. I will try and get a sim tomorrow to test. One other question, are your app prices in USD$ or UK pounds £?
In regards to your situation I believe that the Droid DNA only supports upto HSPA 14.4 Mbps not the 42 Mbps service on GSM networks so that may be why your experiencing slower speeds.

Ahhh, ok, looks like I'll have to put up with it then, it's not too bad, just noticeable from the speeds I was getting previously. As for the Play issue, I'm getting everything in £ values, if I had to guess I would assume that the phone is recognising the sim as UK originated or that my google account is registered as being in the UK so it's showing me the UK Play store.
The entire Play interface (Apps, Music, Books & Films) including pricing is exactly the same as it was on my Galaxy S3 that I got on contract from 3 but like I said, I put my 3 sim in straight away and it was all fine.
I'm sure once u put a sim in you'll be ok, the phone probably isn't recognising that you're in the UK without the sim card I think. :silly::silly:
Let me know how you get on once you put a sim in it, us UK DNA owners gotta stick together haha
All working. Thanks man.
All the hassle I went through and it was just because I had no SIM lol!
HI
Been looking for some info for ages I am on EE and have ordered a DNA but I am a bit worried if I will get any sort of 3g/hs speeds. I can still cancel the phone but need to know before Tomorrow if this will work for me as there is no point if I can't get any mobile data with this phone.
Has anyone got any info that can help me, EE has a 4G network which is a bit patchy for 4g round here but does work, I am guessing this phone won't work on the UK in 4g, but as I said above as long as it works 3G or HS+ then I will be happy, anyone put my mind at rest lol.

Nexus 9 LTE wont connect to Tmobile Data.... shows "!"

purchased N9 LTE from ExpansysUSA knowing they were probably euro models. I have a tmobile data only sim and it was registered to this N9 when I got it as well. It worked and shows LTE.. Today I popped in my ATT sim and it showed LTE as well and i was pretty happy with that. i turned the device back off, popped back in the tmobile SIM and now it just shows Tmobile with full signal but DATA shows ! and wont connect to data.
I verified im still using the correct APN, even reset APN to defaults, I checked my Dialer code menu to make sure im set to LTE/GSM/CDMA preferred and it shows LTE status but then shows disconnected.
i feel like Tmobile is now blocking my Nexus 9 from connecting OR the sim has somehow messed up...
I swear i have the worst luck with tmobile sims always burning out.
OK it's working now. So weird how finicky T-Mobile sims and network connectivity are.
was it a data only sim? I got the same thing inserting my phone sim in my N9 but I believe that's because tmobile blocks tablets from working on phone sims.
I don't know about the Nexus 9, but I do know from experience the Galaxy Tab S LTE tablets cannot be used as phones on T-Mobile.
TMO will only give you a data SIM, so calls would need to be done VoIP/app based.
I'd guess the reason behind that might apply to the Nexus.
Oddly enough, TMO *used* to allow the LTE tablets to be used as phones.
But some sore loser in some forum complained about how it affected data plan pricing and so TMO clamped down on the data-only policy for tablets.
Btw, the LTE Euro Galaxy Tab S could only get HSPA/3G on TMO. LTE speeds were not possible.

Data Connection Partially Lost on Unlocked Sprint M9 after Official Nougat Update

Hi all, sim unlocked s-off sprint m9 used to work well on android 6 with official rom. But until the phone was upgraded to Android 7. Data connection stopped working for one operator (NOS in Portugal). However Vodafone works well.
Tried different roms and apn settings, same at all. Data connection does not work on NOS operator.
Does anyone have similar issue and of course any advices?
Thank you all.

Why sim unlock a Sprint variant and not an AT&T or T-Mobile which already support GSM?
did you find a solution?
i have exact same issue.
bought one m9 from ebay with sprint (651) firmware on.
lte was working fine in israel (1800 2100).
after nougat im only getting 3g.
it makes sense that i cant use those bands (1 and 3 i think) on a sprint device.. but it did work with marshmallow
Same problem in the USA
I have (nearly) the same problem in the United States with a Sprint CDMA version of the One M9. The main difference is that my data speed is even worse than 3G, around 10-20 Kbps. Occasionally, I get faster speeds, but I haven't been able to figure out if it is location-specific (but always away from home and work) or due to some other characteristic.
The phone came brand new in a retail box from an eBay seller. It worked as expected for 1.7 years. The OTA update which installed Android 7 (aka Nougat) in early 2017 resulted in the very slow data speeds. WiFi is unaffected, but data is so slow that I cannot reliably send or receive MMS; Google Maps says that I do not even have a data connection for traffic info.
EcoMobile (my MVNO provider; I still have a sprint email address, so I know who is actually providing service) could only suggest resetting my phone; did this twice with no change in operation (but several of the programs which automatically re-installed themselves operated differently, including GMail no longer providing auto-complete for addresses).
After literally 2 hours in chat with htc, they told me that my MEID indicates my phone was "made in Taiwan". I took this to mean that: 1) the person I was chatting with had poor English skills (because aren't they all made in Taiwan?), and 2) my phone is gray market (meaning it was not imported into the country via official channels, even though the manual was in the American version of English).
I came to XDA looking for an answer, too. I was mildly surprised to see that this topic was at the top of the list for the One M9.
The best solution for my situation would be the proper ROM for my phone, but I don't know how to figure that out from the MEID. htc USA says they cannot help me with this.
I could even go back to Android 6, but I do rather like the new features in Nougat.
Alternatively, I could root the phone and install a 3rd party ROM, but I still need to know how to choose the proper one for my phone.
I hope this info finds its way to a helpful expert.
Regards,
Jeff

Question XQ-BC72 model version on Verizon?

So I bought the XQ-BC72 model and flashed US firmware. Earlier this year I was able to do this on the Xperia 5 II and it worked perfectly. The 5 II was also the Chinese/Asian model that I flashed to US firmware.
So has anyone managed to use the asian model on verizon with or without flashing US firmware?
UPDATE: I called verizon tech support and got them to add the IMEI number to my phone line. This along with a 4G sim card has allowed me to get LTE on this phone and sending/receiving texts works too. Sweet. Will try getting VoLTE or VoWIFI to work, but I highly doubt it.
UPDATE 2: LTE/4G only worked where I originally set it up (at work, within their WiFi range). Very odd behavior. As soon as I left work, service was gone. Connecting to any other WiFi did not bring back service. As soon as I got back to the office, the service came back. This is so weird. I did all this on a 4G sim card. Will try using a 5G sim card before giving up and getting a US version or staying on the OnePlus 8T.
UPDATE 3: I got Verizon to work on the XQ-BC72. I flashed from the US Firmware to Taiwan Firmware (TW). You will still need a sim card that is provisioned as CDMA-less by verizon (you can do this over the phone or chat on their website) while inserted into a phone that verizon supports (such as your currently phone most likely if you already use Verizon). Then just switch out the sim card into the Sony and should be good to go.
You're brave to be a guinea pig here, and it's much appreciated. I'd love to purchase the bc72 but am too worried about compatibility with Verizon. Please update us on your progress or lack thereof, I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in the outcome

Well I got it to work for a little bit. Basically, it only worked while I was at work within the range of my works WiFi (this is where I set up the phone by chatting with verizon). As soon as I left work, I lost LTE and it would not return until I went back inside the building (yes I was still in range of the service signal). Its very odd. Connecting to any other WiFi outside of work did not bring back LTE/service.
I will attempt to get a 5g sim card and try again but I doubt I will get better results. I am currently using a verizon 4G sim card which works perfectly in OnePlus 8T (which was converted from TMobile to Global)
See update 3 above if anyone is interested in using the international model (XQ-BC72) on Verizon. Benefits of this route is you can use the Gray color model as well (not just black and purple that the US model allows) and you can also get the one with 512gb storage (internal storage is almost always faster than SD cards). Downsides are warranty is probably gone, no 5G or VoLTE support most likely.

Can I Use T-Mobile Phone SIM for Data on Unlocked ATT Tab S7?

So I have an issue with my current tablet that is locked to T-Mobile not getting any data using a normal phone sim. I'm not about to risk buying a different T-Mobile locked tablet or even one with T-Mobile Firmware as I have a feeling I will run into the same issue, and I can't get any clear answers about it.
Does it make sense for me to buy an ATT Unlocked S7 and use a T-Mobile Phone SIM in it then? Surely an unlocked Tablet from another carrier wouldn't get caught in the data-only SIM mess right? Or are there other ways around this issue? Ironically all I really need is data, but I need to be able to use a normal phone sim from my T-Mobile plan.
Usually t-mobile doesn't care if you use tablet plan sim cards inside phones but it does limit the usage of phone plan sim cards inside tablets.
So with tablet from popular/well known brands, no matter if it's from another carrier or a factory unlocked version, you are almost certain to be detected by t-mobile and it will either block the tablet or limit the speed to 3g speed, especially with those free phone lines with unlimited data.
You would better go with an imported tablet not dedicated for US market.
