Oreo Beta Testing starting back up! - ZTE Axon 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

What's up!
Yup you heard right it's starting back up and if you're a beta tester previously for the Axon 7 Oreo builds you should be getting contacted soon.
Peace!

Kudos to ZTE for continuing this after that long stretch of downtime. Looks like they're doing right by us; I really appreciate this.

Right now it seems to be only for the US tho. Saw a post on reddit where someone got an email for US beta testing.
Sadly ztemobile.de is still redirecting to the chinese site. I really hope the site comes back. Or that at least the G model gets back on track too to receive oreo.

I do hope they will be able to complete the European version too. I guess most things they add should work between versions right away?

Something just pop on my A2017 device.

That's just Android 8 with Mifavor5.2 for Chinese users. Nothing new here since you have the Chinese version phone.

Yes. It's official. I'm not a beta tester.

I also check for the German page to come back online. If we do get Oreo for the G it will most likely come from there. I'm hoping that page is down because there will be some changes to it

Are you kidding? ?

I'm guessing (maybe hoping) that that screenshot is unrelated. Surely they can't be releasing only a V8 update and not v8.1.
Seems like ZTE could so with some cross region collaboration with releasing updates. It's a bad practice not to make updates world wide.
I know there may be small differences, especially with modems but still..

I'm sure that patch was left somewhere in the update servers and since they're back online now, people received it.
I'ts not new per se because it's from March, so clearly they didn't release new stuff yet (also don't know if they started to work on the update or not). However, I have my doubts about 8.1... hopefully it's 8.1 and not 8.0., but we will see.

You probably right.

I received an email from ZTE a few days ago that read new Oreo build ready for testing. Has a survey for you to fill out. I contacted the person and was told , build is wrapping up inner testing and will be pushed to beta testers soon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The build is the last before final release.

Hi,
How to enroll for beta testing?

Benefits of B322 over B309

Dear HAM2 users, I am currently on b309 and would like to update to b322 but hate re-installing all apps again. Hence I am reluctant so far for that reason.
Is there big difference in performance between b309 and B322?
Will there be another update to b322 or this is it?
The fact that everyone hasn't received ota update gives me impression that this is not final yet.
Is it worth the effort to update now or should I wait a few more weeks.
Thanks.

Does that mean this is the final release and Huawei has completed the Lollypop official release?
I read somewhere there may be another update to this.

Amazing two letters can mean soooo much. Lol
Not sure why people continue to rag on Huawei. They released LP on the HAM. They did a bunch of updates and then released B322. It seems to be working pretty damn good. They may release updates as they see fit. Think we should be happy we got LP quite frankly on this device. Then again, some people are never happy.

Not releasing KK and then being late releasing LP was very likely not making people happy from what I gathered reading the HAM2 forum here.
I just my mega HAM2 a few days ago . Waiting for Huawei to sent me my bootloader unlock code ( I was not one of the people who received a response withing hours ) so I can root my LP upgraded phone and hopefully Xposed framework will be working on the HAM2 in the not too distant future.

Doubtful. The only reason they released L to start with was because SOOO many people raised hell about it. Basically killing any hope of selling a lot of people devices in the future. And anyone researching huawei would see that failure. Again this isn't a successful business practice. I highly doubt any more updates... Unless its a major security flaw. Having CM support boosted the chance people may buy huawei stuff again. But only slightly. There is obviously fanboys of huawei.. Just like Apple has its lemmings. For huawei though that isn't a significant number of users. One can only hope they Learnd a lesson this time. As Scoots said. IF... Time will tell.

LOL @Moody66...and there are the people who try their best to try and create as much fud and rhetoric as possible. We'll just see how popular Huawei is when they release the new Nexus and people who claimed they would never, ever use their products again and continue to post things like this, trip over themselves to buy one.

Disgusting treatment of EU Axon 7 users

Hi,
Some really bad news for anyone that's been unfortunate enough to purchase an A7 EU version.
I have contacted ZTEUK on FB messenger directly to ask about the Nougat update and this is their exact response.
"Hi Mike, Please keep an eye out on our social channels for any information regarding updates. We do not currently have plans to update to Nougat though this may change. Thanks, the ZTE UK team."
Taking into account the amount of EU phones out there this is beyond dreadful in terms of treatment, the question is, where do we go from here? I didn't want to bother rooting the phone, but is there any option left now it's possibly not getting the update at all?
No daydream, no patch fixes, no volume fix, the list goes on!!
How do we pressure ZTE into dealing with this, failing that what other options do we have?
Mike
Haha I doubt it, these customer reps have no idea.
There has been an extensive Nougat test going on as well as confirmations on twitter etc.
G Version will get Nougat.

I hope so, that brings some comfort, really the reps should not give throw away replies like that.
Thanks :good:
Don't worry, it just furthers the idea that global organization of ZTE is totally lacking, especially for their EU customers (far behind their american ones). Nougat was announced first by ZTE Germany back in November (originally planned for end of january) and is currently undergoing beta testing as far as I know. The thing is, ZTE Germany is apparently taking care of the dev for the G version but they officially supports only german customers, even if they kinda tried to create an "european" community. Other european branches (it's the case for ZTE france at least) of ZTE seem to be only PR posting advertisement on facebook/twitter. IMO, your rep just copy pasted the basic stonewalling response to this question and has either no information whatsoever or wanted to answer politely without getting carried away.
(If anyone has more info, feel free to correct me)
G Variant will sure get the Nougat Update soon, ZTE UK should know this too dont know why you got this answer from them. But if you G Variant user, follow ZTE Mobile Deutschland on Facebook
Coming from US nougat. There's still bugs, battery drain, etc. Issues that are in the release. I'd rather be back in MM honestly. A stable and complete release would've been better instead of releasing early due to demand. Just look up the issue with whatsapp. Millions of users and they didn't notice such a glaring bug.
I can say without a doubt in my mind that the Axon 2017G will also get Nougat. They are usually a little behind the US team with releases so I imagine it will probably be sometime in March
I wouldn't be surprised if you could just flash the bootstack and modem from LineageOS thread and flash A2017U system on top. I'm totally satisfied with LineageOS, so I'm not even thinking on doing that now or in the future.
The G Variant needs more time than us because they want to fix all founded bugs and increase the quality. like musicdjm said, it will release end feb. or beginning of march. zte could Release it in the end of January but there were too many bug, because of that they started a beta test phase and postponed the Release date

Seriously, who cares... Samsung branded phones are light years ahead of "stock Android" anyway. That's why stock Android has slowly been adding OG Samsung features into stock Android.

Pm for now to avoid possible email spamming.
As for all the others who read this, here is a little more explanation:
He is the technical chief officer of zte and stands in direct contact with the dev team. He is also the reason we got the zip for disabling system write protection in the first place. Without him i wouldn't have gotten the update.zip (with disabled system write protection) and @raystef66 couldn't have made a flashable zip for us.

VoLTE should work on any of the big Oreo ROMs. WFC is hit or miss (even on stock ROM). I'm assuming Oreo is gonna be the last android version we can install and still have these things work (unless some dev out there finds a way to get past this roadblock in the future). Either way, I kinda doubt ZTE would provide any further updates for us beyond Oreo. I'm assuming that the response given in the OP meant that they would fix everything that's still broken and missing on 8.0; not begin development for Pie (especially since the Axon 10 is just around the corner, pulling resources into a 3-year-old phone just isn't a sound decision from a business standpoint).

It is if ZTE expect some form of customer loyalty on future purchase decisions. Would you buy the Axon 10/11/12 etc. based on your Axon 7 experience? Yes they had disruptions from trade sanctions etc. but that's not the consumers fault and imo ZTE should be doing everything they can to restore faith in their brand.
They're basically starting again.
They need an affordable flagship like the Axon 7 was. If they don't, it will be hard to gather enough sales to start a customer pool and try for return purchase later on.
Current customers are wary, sceptical and untrusting after that whole fiasco and rightly so.

They just need to copy and paste the Axon 7 with newer specs.
Maybe bumping it to 6" in order to have more internal space would do the trick.
I still can't understand how did they think that the Axon 9 Pro was a good idea. They litterally took all that was great about the A7 and...deleted it.
Now...a bit of an on topic question. Instead of releasing 8.0, could they not enter the Android One program with it...especially since they were aiming for stock experience?
Maybe it's been asked before, but what are the implications of entering the AO program, because IIRC, I may have read some time ago something about a partition not existing on the device and ZTE not gambling with a large release, but I can't remember specifically?

The vendor partition stuff is something else entirely. Some people believed that ZTE would bring Treble support to the Axon while that made very little sense (Treble is a requirement for phones that SHIP with Oreo and above, but it's optional for Oreo, and its main advantage is it makes it easier for OEMs to update major Android versions). It was developed by djkuz and NFound eventually anyways, but only because of the generic ROM benefits
I don't think you can simply slap Android One certification on the middle of a product's life, but even if they could, it would make absolutely zero sense for them... Why be commited to security updates and newer Android versions on a phone that has surely stopped giving any revenue since long ago? Plus I'm not even sure if people prefer stock Android to stuff like One UI where you have a bunch of options
Do not expect to much from ZTE for the Axon 7. Until now they did not release a stable OS and it will not change for the next update.

Marshmallow and Nougat were perfectly stable, if not the chinese versions. i'd say that counts.
The important thing is them fixing Daydream because it doesn't only entail adding daydream back, to run it properly you need to have thermals and the kernel properly tuned. Daydream should put the phone at ~1.3 GHz but I believe they'll have to mess around to make it work as intended anyways
plus all this is useful for LOS
Marshmallow and Nougat had a very bad design and UI because of mifavor. Oreo is nice but extremly unstable.

All I'm saying is, @GodOfPsychos contacted this ZTE guy, he said that an update was going to be released, and then XDA'S EDITOR IN CHIEF contacted that guy and got the same response (with which an article was made). They can bail at any time, but it's not like they are promising Pie anyways
I'm guessing you can't see the attached screenie in the OP? I can see it just fine from XDA Labs
We won't get official Android Pie for Axon 7.
The most I read into that is update to include cut out features like Daydream, probably a security update too. Just a finish of what Oreo 8.0 was supposed to be. I don't think we will even see official Oreo 8.1
If they had just kept with the whole "best sounding phone" idea I'd probably already have bought another ZTE. It was the thing that distinguished them in the crowded market of samey-same phones. At this point I'm clinging to my Axon 7 with my tight little hands, and any update to its stability will be appreciated. [Full disclosure, I'm running the GSI Liquid Remix unofficial build of Pie, but if they do update the official Oreo and get it rock solid, I could see downgrading just to be on an official ROM.]

I have signed up for every android beta since the Note 3 on both the Verizon and Sprint networks, and waiting the new Android 10. Who is going to sign up for their Note 10, and hopefully more goodies?:good::good:

As far as I know, there is not. I keep looking at the major Android/Samsung sites and keep peaking at my Samsung Members every once in a while.
Nope, not yet - S9+ user here. I also following everywhere for news about the beta program, ofc I won't get it first but I want to be informed. I think it will start soon. Maybe even this month?
Verizon usually doesn't let people on their network sign up for the betas in my experience. I was going to sign up last year but it wasn't an option for my S9+ on VZW. You can load the beta builds with odin though if someone posts the firmware online. I will probably skip the first couple of builds and flash when they get most of the bugs squashed later in the beta cycle.

What a surprise ?
Beta is live! Can someone share the update.zip?
Just registered in Germany, waiting for the updated
Edit: just got the update with the November patch but no One UI 2 yet
Edit Edit: Just finished the update, even if it wasn't mentioned in the changelog I'm now on Android 10 and One UI 2.0
SafetyNet Test Error after update
I can use the German update.zip?
The bubble of Tap to Translate of Google Translate is always active even when I didn't copy any text, very annoying, I turned the feature off

Open Samsung Members, scroll a bit down and there should be a section named "News and Tips", click on the Image talking about Android 10, it will bring you to a page where you can enroll in the beta program. Wait a while and check for updates.
Ps: of course you need to be on a German operator to do that
Are there still any free slots for the German based users? I don't get to find the Android 10 News in the Members App.

I've registered few hours ago, so I think yes, also for me the news was not appearing yesterday. Try to force close and reopen Samsung Members (more than once maybe )

Thanks! Short question about that. Do you remember or even know if the post was either on the upper side (like a newer post) or on the lower side (older post)? Anyways, the actual name of the News would be nice. Maybe we can search for it.
