Why do some apps root themselves in the system (make themseleves ununinstallable)? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I was trying to clean up my phone's storage and came to keyboards. I tried many of them before and now I want to uninstall what I won't use anymore. Isn't that convenient??
So there are these two keyboards that I can't disable or uninstall, gboard and AOSP keyboard. I can't disable nor uninstall them, because they're system apps now -_- that's obnoxious.
I remember installing them myself!
I've seen some adware that has the same behavior on other devices. It adds extra crap onto firmwares!
Is it something wrong with my phone? Or does any app developer have the ability to create "system" apps!?
I'm using Honor 6x running Android Nougat 7.0.

[Q] Uninstall apps without going through uninstaller

Hello
I have an HTC One X which is rooted, and I am wondering is there a way (or an app) to uninstall other apps without going through the normal uninstaller?
It'd be much faster to select a load of apps and have the phone uninstall them automatically..
I'm asking here rather than the HTC One X area because this is relative to any Android phone.
Not sure how many apps you are trying to remove (or why for sure) but if your rooted you can use Titanium Backup for what you want to do. Just be careful that you don't unintentionally remove something you want/need.

I will try Titanium Backup.. Whenever I am on the Play store, I tend to install lots of apps and if I don't like them, they end up being left on the phone, so every so often I like to clean out apps I haven't used in a while.
Thanks!
EDIT: How can I select multiple apps, then uninstall them in one go?

TB has a bit of a learning curve and you can get into trouble quickly if you aren't careful but the bulk actions are under the check box on the top right corner of the app.
You also may want to consider a few alternatives in the play store like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kugoweb.uninstaller it looks more straight forward for what you are trying to do...just a thought

There are only the following options:
Un-install backed up user apps
Un-install non-backed up user apps
Un-insall all user apps
Un-install all user & system apps
Is there a way I can mark multiple apps to uninstall rather than uninstall by whether I have a backup or not?
I have tried a few alternative apps, but they all open up the uninstall thing and each one has to be done one by one, however I notice TB can uninstall apps without using that, so I'm asking is there a way to select mutiple apps manually with it.

Yes, any of the uninstall options you mentioned will allow you to check or uncheck the apps after you click RUN before it actually does anything. As I mentioned though you can get into trouble quite quickly if you uninstall something on accident. If you don't back up if make one before hand just in case.
If you start by clicking run on uninstall all user apps you get the check boxes to refine you're choices beforehand

Ah, I see now. I was worried that tapping that would just uninstall all user apps. I have already set regular backups, so I'm all ok there.
Just de-cluttered my phone with this,
Thanks for all your help!

[Q] Is there a list of critical .apk files that android needs to run?

Hi Everyone,
Like the title is suggesting, is there a list of critical apk files that android needs to run?
For example, whenever I install a ROM I always find myself deleting most of the standard apps or other **** I just don't use with a system app removal tool.
Now I just want to delete everything, just to have a naked android system and from there on, install apps I DO need.
Thanks in advance,

No, there's no actual "list". You'll just have to use your best judgement in removing (i.e - do not delete all of them). You could use this app which can advise you which apps are safe to remove. If the app doesn't show up in the app drawer, its quite likely you should not remove it (& possibly vice versa).
Well it needs SystemUI and framework-res in order to boot. You also need some launcher and most provider apps if you want to use ur phone. But as was said above if an app doesn't show in drawer you shouldn't delete it

Have a look at this, not sure if its up to date:

Really depends on what rom. Certain stock ones have different dependencies that may cause FCs if removed. Depends also on whether it is Touchwiz, motoblur, sense, or others

Disable or uninstall Verizon Apps

Hi,
Like the G4 [I own for now] and I disabled most Verizon Apps. Possible with the G6? [I plan Getting]
Yes, this is built into android.

That's not entirely true. You can NOT disable the "Mobile Hotspot" or "Voicemail" app.

I got a new VS988 in, installed the Package Disabler app using the instructions for non rooted phones, it appears to work. I've disabled some Google, LG, and VZW stuff that I consider bloat and it seems like they've indeed been disabled. Messaging, Slacker Radio, and a few other items are on the System tab, so don't be afraid to check that area out for things to disable (but don't disable something if you don't understand what it is)

FWIW, on my VS988 Slacker and Messaging are under the regular apps, not system.
Gotta love non standardization ☺
I did pull in one system update, maybe something was shuffled.

Anyway, lacking root I ended up using the sd partition management app to carve off 24gb of sd as adopted storage, put in Adguard plus the combination of Yandex browser and Adguard Content Manager, and have Package Disabler. It isn't the same as root, but provides a bit more control.
I'd love to see a "Safe to remove" thread if anyone has one for the G6
Maybe look here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/help/bloatware-removing-t3639013/page5
I ended up going to BK Package Disabler. Install takes factory reset (to wipeout existing accounts, unless the ones you have can be removed on the fly) then loading that one app (giving it admin permission through adb).
BK is only a disabler, but does seem to work, lets you disable bloat. Long press on any given item and there's a pop-up so you can Google what an item is.
It warns you to reenable things before accepting a future OTA.

Adware on android... help!

So I recently transferred from an s7 to an s8, but somehow within the transfer, some app either gave me adware or has adware in it. I've removed literally every single app that I do not use regularly and disabled drawing over apps on ones that don't need it, but it's still coming up. Any solutions?
Install an antivirus and remove it?
Try to see what apps are running in background. other than the apps that you trust, try to look for the apps that seems suspicious to you or any app that you no longer use and uninstall it.
one more suggestion is start using adguards. adguards are the programs help in preventing the unnecessary ads popping up in your device.
many require root for better implementation of adguard patches system wide. but w/o root variants are also available.
Hit thanks if helped

Since I'm on Samsung, they won't let you see every single process running in the background. They hide the system processes and that's where the program is hiding. I've never heard of adguards before. My phone is currently on a software that is physically unable to be rooted, so I'd have to use the non root items.
[UPDATE] I'm stupid. I didn't check dev options. This helped more after that.

Tried it, did diddly squat. Unless you have one with an adware remover, it won't do anything.

Question What to use to debloat unneeded apps?

What is the safest way to de-bloat the phone? What apps are people using to remove unneeded apps? For example I don't use Google TV. Is it safe to uninstall or just freeze? There is Systemless Debloater but I'm not sure if it's fully comparable.

I use Systemless Debloater.
In the begining I tested it on as many devices I could.
- Few Pixel(s), OnePlus(s), Motorola and Xiaomi devices.
- I know someone who is currently using it on a Samsung S20+ (now on Android 13).
The module was just recently updated to handle a new OnePlus (ColorOS ?) directory.
/system/my_bigball
Since it is systemless, it is safe and fairly easy to use.
The hardest part is finding the app name you want to debloate.
Cheers.
Edit:
PS.
I might be a little bias though.

I use SD Maid Pro and freeze apps, because a) it isn't possible to delete apps from the system partition, and b) it's safer than trying to remove the apps permanently.
+1 for the freeze option. Less likely to cause any issues and if it does, it's easy to unfreeze. Fwiw, 3C Toolbox also offers the freeze/unfreeze function as should most decent app managers. I'll let most factory included apps remain until they show up on my wake-lock more often than I think they should or is necessary. It's all about battery 4 me...the more my phone stays in light doze/doze or deep sleep WITHOUT causing any late or missing notifications the better. I try to stay in that 'sweet spot' as far as the battery goes.
even frozen apps still run. i have google play services and framework frozen and they still hammer my firewall.
makes you feel better about it though..
