NVIDIA Shield TV 2017 Root with developers image and Magisk, OREO (Shield 7.0.2) - Shield Android TV Android Development

While I tried to root using TWRP and all the suggested ways i continued to get errors, bootloops, corrupted boot, etc. I downloaded the rooted developers OS Image, then used magisk to patch the boot image. If anyone has any interest in the Boot.img or the developers OS image, let me know i can post links and instructions if needed. This will require the bootloader unlocked (i have read you can unlock with a keyboard, but i never had any luck and used a controller). Please reply with requests if needed.

Just one question: When you install the NEXT developer image, how will you go about retaining Magisk and your boot.img patch? Don't need a step-by-step-- just in simple terms. Curious.

I'm not sure, but i think its possible to use 2 USB drives now if you turn off adb debugging or use a hub.

This is really good, thanks, so i can use flash this 7.0.2 boot.img on top of the latest "nv-recovery-image-shield-atv-7.1.0-dev_rooted" without any issues?
@Michajin Can you please share your boot.img that is patched with magisk?

What version are you on? I downloaded the full zip, put the unzipped file on a USB from a computer. Then Took the USB to my Shield ran magisk manager 6.0 and installed, selecting patch boot, selecting the file from the USB. Magisk places the patched boot into my download folder where i pulled back onto my computer the fastboot flash boot boot.img (or patched_boot.img whatever the file is called that got patched).
I have the patched 7.1 boot.img right now. I have the full developers files, with drivers and patch all in it for 7.1 with magisk manager if you want i can put it on my Google drive for the whole thing. It is 1.09 Gb for the full files.

I am assuming you have a nvidia shield 2017
Download the full image from nvidia here
https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload#?search=SHIELD%20TV%202017%20Developer&tx=$additional,shield
Connect via fastboot (plug in controller press A - B and power on)
From fastboot connect with a computer via A-A usb cable
unzip the file from nvidia into the folder where your fastboot drivers are
run the flash-all.bat file

I am on the latest 7.1.0 but not on developer image, can i just unlock the bootloader and flash the boot image to get root ?
or i need to installed the developer version (nv-recovery-image-shield-atv-7.1.0-dev_rooted)?
I dont want to install everything again.

As far as i know Unlocking erases data anyways. You unlock you have to reinstall everything anyways.

I don't know what the differences are between the dev image and the regular version. I believe the dev version is just pre-rooted. I think it will work, but i have only tested on the dev image. Flash at your own risk.

Hi there,
I need help. Im looking for a ROM thats flashable with TWRP so i can install it. Previously I had Lineageos installed but it wasnt running smooth enough.
I cant install the rooted recovery file from Nvidia with TWRP.
The reason why im wanting to use TWRP is because i want to use Magisk with the Shield.
Ive allready patched a stock boot image with magisk version 17.1
my current Twrp version is 3.2.1-1
Thank you very much
cheers
[Edit]
I solved the problem by following this post
thanks

I dont know if it sent, here is a link for the dev image with magisk installed on the boot.img. The original and patched boot.img are in the zip file., along with the magisk app.
Please flash at you own risk, i have the 2017 shield and it worked for me. I ran the flash-all.bat.
Here is a link to the file on my GDrive ( I will be blocking access after the weekend)

Yes, as far as i know you have to have an unlocked bootloader. You plug in your Sheild VIA a-a USB, you might have to install the sheild drivers. Press AB on your controller and power on. That will get you into fastboot. You have to run the unlock bootloader command WARNING this will wipe your DATA. All the drivers you need will be on this page available to download https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source and for instructions on how-to goto here http://nv-tegra.nvidia.com/gitweb/?...;f=README_NEW_SHIELD;hb=rel-24-uda-r1-partner (the instructions tell how to do flash each file, i found it faster to do the flash-all.bat, but be patient, i think it takes about 30 minutes)

Do you mind to elaborate about the steps taken to get and patch boot image?
What I did is I grabbed the "boot_X-FLASH-ALL-8F02.sin" file, used UnSIN tool to convert it to "boot.img" and then Android Image Kitchen AIK to unpack and repack the image (this step is necessary on older Xperia phone, is that the case here?), then finally patch the repacked boot image using Magisk.
But when flashing the new patched boot image, I get a non functional touch screen and wifi. I was able to control the phone using ScrCpy tool to mirror the phones screen on my computer and control the phone from the window that appears on the computer. But since WIFI won't even turn on, I couldn't even verify that Magisk was working or not.
What is worse, is that if I tried to flash the original untouched Boot image SIN or the converted IMG, the phone still has non-working touch-screen and WIFI.
FlashTool by Androxyde and EMMA tools do NOT support this phone yet. I ended up using Newflasher tool to go back to stock (still unlocked bootloader) and everything works fine, but no root.
I have the US model I3223 btw.
Thank you kindly, awaiting your response.

when I tried to create bundle, I found that I4293 did not show in the ID list.
I can't do anything about it.
Anybody can help me plz~~ I'm fresh in XDA and just try to root my phone first time :crying:

Flashtool doesn't support our phones. Magisk 19.1+ currently doesn't work with our phones. Hopefully 19.4 will fix that.

Small update on this, there was an Android update recently, and it fixes everything ??* so if someone else here has the same issues somehow, updating to July update fixes it
I've some questions:
-does Nokia release his kernel source and which version use? on their website there is only for 3.1 I don't know if are same thing.
-Does support treble?
hello, now there is a august update for nokia 3.2 Do u have the boot file for that.. or how can I find it??
I add this phone to the list of my amazon.it account to make some stuff like twrp and roms but didn't buy yet, I'm afraid that Nokia will not release kernel source soon so in case of taking one I can make a twrp with stock kernel extracted from boot.img see ya.
Edit: buying this phone has been cancelled after reading unlocking bootloader seems to be "impossible" shame on you dear Nokia

Unfortunately, I don't have my current build as a separate firmware file, and QFIL is not able to get the boot image from my phone because the communication stops right away.
My build number starts with 00EEA, whereas your boot image (and the full stock ROM on Mega that you linked) contains 00WW. I'm not sure this firmware is compatible with my Nokia 3.2 ...

Thanks for your efforts - I was able to solve the problem today.
It seems there are different versions of the same "programmer" around that is used in QFIL to extract your own boot image from the phone.
Originally, I used the one provided by @hikari_calyx in his unlock thread. Today I noticed that the programmer file in the stock firmware you provide here has a slightly different size. I tried this one and it worked.
So I could extract my "boot.img" from the phone. Rooting was easy after that.
I think it's always safer to use one's own boot image than trying to flash one that was lying around elsewhere.
Here is my post in the other thread for reference. Thanks again for your research and for providing the stock firmware!
.
Hello JFDee,
is it possible that you upload your original or modified boot image also?
Because i flashed the boot image that was given here and now i have the same problem, like said before.
WLAN is not working anymore and the Boot time is very long. Updating also don't work.
I also saw the differences in the build numbers.
My is like yours 00EEA....
This would be really nice, because i don'T find the stock image for this number.
Best regards!!!!

[GUIDE] Root the Realme X3 SuperZoom with Magisk

Before rooting, you'll need an unlocked bootloader. Check my previous guide here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/x3...ck-bootloader-realme-x3-t4136325/post83109505.
After unlocking, we can get started with rooting.
First, you'll want to install Magisk Manager. You can find the latest APK here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/magisk/releases.
Next, you'll need to download the latest OTA OZIP. There's a link at the end of the post for this.
While that's downloading, you'll also need to grab a copy of an OZIP extractor. Follow the link below, download the repository as a ZIP, and unzip it.
For this program to work, you'll need Python 3 installed. On Linux systems, it should already be installed. On Windows 10, you can install Python from the Store.
Open a terminal or CMD window and cd to where you extracted the OZIP extractor files.
Use pip to install the docopt module: "pip3 install docopt".
Once the OZIP has finished downloading, move it to the same folder as the extractor program.
Run the following command: "python3 ozipdecrypt.py NAME_OF_OZIP_FILE". This will take a while!
Once it's done extracting, there will be a ZIP file with the same name as the OZIP. We only need two files from here: boot.img and vbmeta.img.
Extract those two files to the same folder as the extractor program.
Copy the boot.img file to your device.
Open Magisk Manager and choose the "INSTALL" option next to the Magisk status. Tap "INSTALL" in the dialog that appears and then choose "Select and Patch a File."
Browse to where you copied your boot.img to and select it. Magisk will now patch it and create a file named magisk_patched.img in your Download folder. Copy magisk_patched.img back to your computer.
Reboot your phone into fastboot: "adb reboot bootloader". If you don't have ADB or fastboot installed (which you should, since you needed them for the previous guide), you can find the link in the bootloader unlocking guide.
Before you flash the patched boot image, you need to disable image verification, which is where the vbmeta.img comes in.
Run "fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img --disable-verity --disable-verification" (remember, you'll probably need to unplug and replug the device after hitting Enter). This will disable boot verification and allow the patched image to actually work.
Finally, run "fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img". This will flash the rooted boot image to your device.
Run "fastboot reboot" and let the phone boot back into the system. Check Magisk Manager and you should now be rooted!
Troubleshooting:
If you get an error that the boot image was "destroyed," don't worry. You'll just need to flash the stock boot.img and try again. Unplug your phone from your computer and wait for it to turn off. Once the screen is black, hold down VOL-DWN and PWR to enter fastboot mode. You can then run "fastboot flash boot boot.img" (where boot.img is the stock image) to restore. Reboot, then try the vbmeta and patched image flashing again.
You can get the OTA OZIPs from Realme EU's site: https://www.realme.com/eu/support/software-update.
You can get an OZIP extractor from here: https://github.com/bkerler/oppo_ozip_decrypt. (NOTE: you'll need to install the "docopt" Python module.)
OZIPs contain a boot.img, which you can extract and patch with Magisk for root. If someone else has an idea for patching Magisk into the boot.img, this is where to start.
Here's my patched boot.img for A.32. I don't recommend using this on other versions: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=315334
Could you share your patched boot.img for the latest OS version? And could you check if the aux magisk module from X2 pro works to activate all aux cameras in Gcam? Thanks
Patched boot image
Thanks Zacharee1....Could someone upload the patched boot image for the latest one? Also do we have a generic version of twrp that can be installed on x3 ?? If yes, then we could try installing havoc gsi...
I've added a link to a patched A.32 boot.img.
also needed pip install pycryptodome win10

But it seems like I have A.33 version (https://www.realme.com/in/support/software-update)
I wish we had a video guide or something. Does anyone have a patched A.33 boot.img?

It's pretty simple to patch it yourself. Download the OZIP, use the Python tool to unencrypt it, take the boot.img file out of the created ZIP, copy it to your device, and then patch with with Magisk Manager.

Firmware for RMX2085
I have RMX2085 model. So installing RMX2081 would be okay?
Actually I installed GSI ROM after this and now stuck with boot animation loops. Any idea if it would be okay to flash 2081 ROM else where can I get the one for 2085 version?

Great thread @Zacharee1. I have been waiting for this!
I have one question - is it mandatory to download the OTA package and do the patching? Is it because of the absence of recovery software like TWRP yet, for the X3 Super Zoom?

Yes, and that's why. It might be possible to pull the boot image directly from your device, but I'm not sure.
Can someone tell me if I can use realme 6 pro vbmeta.img?

Good afternoon. I want to get a root for my X3 super zoom, but I literally do not understand all the manipulations so that your description is attached with an image (screenshots). I think it will be useful for everyone who can't.

Question Info about root/ota/debloat

Hi all and sorry for my bad english in first!!
i live in italy and i've buyed(but still not recieved) one oneplus 9r from china whit oxygenos rom on board..
When it comes i want to root & debloat it, but i've some queustion cause in last year i've used only device with custom rom!.
first of all i wan't to root the phone, but preserve the possibility to update the OS with ota. if i understand right it's possible with magisk, can please someone tell me the correct step to make?
after root i vant to uninstall not necessary app for my utilization (facebook/instagram/netflix, red cable and oneplus account, google app, gdrive, google photo and most of BigG apps cause i'm using only gmail/yt/maps/ an store!).
the question is.... if i uninstall this app it will be re installed in future ota?
Thanks in advice!
Step1 : unlock bootloader, this will wipe the storage, then setup the device once again then enable usb debugging in developer options.
You can use this
Tool to make (tool all in one) your life easier : https://sourceforge.net/projects/tool-all-in-one/files/TOOL_ALL_IN_ONE_1.0.6.1.zip/download
you should select 8t as 9r is not supported officially
at the moment.
Step2: update the phone to latest version , right now it's 11.2.5.5
Step 3: download the same version of the oxygen is ota wether from xda, OnePlus official site , oxygen updater ( make sure it is full version).
Step4: on pc now extract only the payload.bin file in the input of the payload extracter ,
Now use the payload extracter ,
Run .exe and get boot.img .
payload_dumper_tool_by_ius.zip
drive.google.com
(MAKE SURE THE PHONE OS VERSION AND BOOT IMG VERSION IS SAME)
Step 5: install magisk manager on phone, now patch the boot.img that you extracted earlier. Copy this patched boot.img in platforms tool folder(I hope that u have installed the platform tools and adb & fastboot ).
Step 6: open terminal there in platform tools , use the tool all in one to boot your phone in fast boot mode, then flash patched boot.img using.
Fastboot devices
Fastboot flash boot_a patched.img
Fastboot flash boot_b patched.img
Bingo got rooted.
Step 7( optional) : now properly restart the phone by opening magisk , then install universal safety net fix, debloat modules in magisk.
You can use lucky patcher to debloat unnecessary things (which don't exist as it is oxygen os)
Now in future if your phone gets ota make sure you disable all magisk modules then download the full version of ota from oxygen updater & update it locally & do not restart.
go to magisk ,
flash magisk to inactive slot.
restart now,
REnable the modules. (Tip don't enable the lucky patcher module this will put you in bootloop)
enjoy the ota .
@Rajveer chauhan
Do you have instructions to install TWRP?
I even tried to read the thread on the 8t forum, but I didn't understand it very well.
So, 1st of all make sure u are on oos , then simply boot in to bootloader then flash this ofox img file , using the command
fastboot flash recovery name.img then boot into recovery it will ask u your screen lock, then flash this ofox zip file .
this or any recovery are in beta phase , everything works but not 100/100 times.
unzip this and flash the img cuz the img could not be uploaded
this will only work on oos not on any custom rom, uwill not require to format data
& trust me i am not a hacker

I tried this module too, only with Komika font, my favorite.
What version of the module do you use? I tried with the last one (5.5.6) and the font doesn't seem to have been applied.
I'm on OOS 11.2.7.7.
Same version

U can unzip the payload.bin and extract the recovery file and flash it in the bootloader and everything goes normal

Hello sr
Have you updated your 9r for A12 ? If yes, how did you do it? Would it be possible to go from A11 (11.2.8.8) to A12 (C.33)?

[GUIDE] How to Root Nokia 4.2

This guide will show you how to root your Nokia 4.2. This has been tested on TA-1157 and is working fine.
**Important** - If fastboot does not recognise your device In step 5, You need to download a driver. Here is the link: Download Driver (by Beebom)
Search up how to install custom driver and install it to the “Android” device.
Requirements:
Nokia 4.2 with unlocked bootloader
USB Cable
ADB/Fastboot.
Python
Your current ROM file
Internet.
Downloads:
ADB Installer (by Snoop05 on xda) : Download
Python : Download
Payload Dumper (vm03 on github): Download ( Click on code and select "download ZIP")
Magisk APK (on your phone) : Download APK ( Scroll down and you will find the APK file)
Code:
** I have only tested this on TA-1157. Other models may not work, but technically they should work.**
** Your warranty is now Void**
Step 1
Enable USB debugging on your phone. If you do not know how to do this, Search it up. It is easy.
Once that's enabled, Connect your phone to your PC/Laptop and open the command prompt (cmd) and type adb devices. It should show your device in the list.
Step 2
Locate the Python folder. To do this, simply type "python" in the start menu and click open file location. Then, Right click on "python.exe" and open properties. Then click open file location.
Once the folder opens, make sure to not close it.
Download the payload dumper.py which I have linked in the downloads section. Extract it and place the contents of the file in the Python folder.
Step 3
Download the ROM file. If you are using lineage OS on your Nokia 4.2, Download that file. If you are using the Stock rom, Download that. It should be a .zip file.
Extract the stuff from that file and take payload.bin and move it to the python folder.
Now, Open cmd in that directory by right clicking and opening cmd. Then, Type the following commands,
Code:
python -m pip install -r requirements.txt
then type,
Code:
python payload_dumper.py payload.bin
Once it is done extracting, Open the "output" folder. There you will find the "boot.img" file
Step 4
Use your USB cable or Google drive to transfer the "boot.img" to your phone. Once you have done that, Download the Magisk APK on your phone and install the app. (APK link in downloads section)
Once you have installed Magisk, open it and click "Install". Select the file from your phone and wait a few minutes for magisk to patch the "boot.img" file.
Once Magisk is finished patching, there will be a new file which magisk has created. Transfer the patched file to your computer via the USB cable or Google drive and make sure to rename it as "magisk_patched.img"
Step 5
You are almost done! Open CMD in the folder where you saved the "magisk_patched.img" and type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
then type
Code:
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
Once done, Reboot your phone and Voila! Your phone is now rooted. Make sure to open the magisk app and check it.
If you need any help or you get any errors, post it down here below.
