Unlocked and rooted then updates? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hi! i was just wondering what happens when I have a mate 10 that is unlocked and is rooted and I update it through firmware finder or system update? Will it brick my phone? Or it will just simply flash a new rom and remove the root? Thanks

As far as I know FF is not working anymore for the updates. I have a M10P rooted with Magisk. Whenever is a official OTA I am flashing my original Stock Recovery, doing the official OTA and then flashing back TWRP and Magisk. That s the way I am doing it, but maybe there are other ones. . cheers

I'm not quit sure if it's safe to update via OTA if ur rooted anc currently have stock recovery though. I'm too confused at how Huawei phones work, back when I used samsung phones I could just flash stock ROM via odin and download stock firmware over sammobile. While in Huawei I'm not kinda sure how to even flash stock firmwares and or stock recovery back.

There will be no bricks if you get the OTA on rooted devices. Reading skills and some tools which you find here at XDA. To get back to Stock you will need the last Firmware you used on your phone. After download use Huawei File extractor and extract stock recovery and system.img and flash it via ADB (I am telling u the short version) . You will find all information and tools here on XDA.

That was very informative, for the sake of some newbies around here. I've found this link in OpenKirin's Website

How to update firmware from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 after root?

Hey.
My first Sony device. Have been reading about z2 in forums for some days.
I had my device D6503 on 4.4.2 Nordic and now rooted with easy tool and working.
However I get ota update notifications from Sony update center and I assume it is an 4.4.4 update.
How do I update without losing root access. I must have root because of adaway and some other apps.
This seem some different from Galaxy devices and tools used for that matter. Z2 is a fantastic device tho.
Do I need to download latest firmware from another thread that I found in this forum which collects stock ones, and use flashtool.net to flash firmware? In case, what option to thick when beginning to keep root whilst it updates? And if I can keep apps data? Maybe titanium to back up, if only choice.
If some one could send me to the right direction, as I wasn't able to find what I was looking for.
Takk you
The easiest way is install recovery, download 4.4.4 rooted zip from development section and flash the zip through recovery.

I want to flash to CM13 but I am at Lollipop and rooted with TWRP

I saw a same thread but i am using KII-L22
what should i do first? i think i had a backup where i am still unrooted but already have TWRP.
my guess is that I should reflash to stock recovery first then update via OTA to marsh mallow then root and install TWRP again then flash CM13.
if my guess is correct then how do I revert from TWRP to stock recovery?

Grab the stock recovery of KII-L22 and flash it using fastboot. Same way you flashed TWRP.

Do you have a firmware online on Huawei website or in 5X file repository.
If yes, just use huawei update extractor to extract stock recovery.img from it.
That's it! Search for any KII-L22 stock firmware then extract the stock recovery from it.

will it work even if the stock rom is from MM not Lollipop? can't seem to find the Lollipop version.
if its compatible then this will make it easier since ill use the full stock rom after flashing the recovery

It's better to be safe than sorry
Just google huawei firmware finder by team MT, install and I am sure you can use it to search a lollipop firmware for your phone.
If you want to install MM directly then get MM firmware, extract recovery, flash it and use three button method to update.
You will lose all your data in this way.

I have a similar problem here: I have an unlocked and rooted KIW-L21C432 with Resurrection Remix installed and a backup (B140 firmware version) where I already have TWRP installed as the recovery but am not rooted yet. I want to go back to stock in order to be able ro get the OTA for MM and then install the most recent Resurrection Remix ROM.

So, what would be the procedure for me?
Flash the (unrooted) B140 backup using TWRP.
Use fastboot to flash the correct stock recovery from the honor 5X file depot issueing:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
.
Upgrade to the most recent firmware version B340 via OTA update.
Flash most recent TWRP version using fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp_kiwi.img
.
Root and flash CustomROM.
Is this correct? Is there any smarter way to achieve the official update to MM (like those full revert packages I read about)?
What if my backup was rooted already? Would this lead to any problems? I am not 100% sure whether I was maybe already rooted when I did the initial backup :/
Thanks and best regards

How exaxtly can I tell? It was rooted when I was still on 5.1.1 (firmware version B140), so I'm not sure whether it's systemless root or not.
Then flash full B330:
http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=90763&version=354362&siteCode=fr-h
Put the (uncompressed) DLOAD folder at the root of your SD Card.
Power up the phone with Vol up & vol down pressed, then release once you show the logo, it will automatically flash the rom.
Once done, you are on stock unrooted B330, then you can boot/flash TWRP, then finally flash CM13.

Anyone have stock firmware?

Just looking for the latest stock firmware for my S4. I've tried several sites, even tried paying for premium on one of them (rapidgator) and even that doesn't download successfully. Just want to get this device back up and running.

I have it. I'll upload it and link it here when I get it ready. Also, in case you need, I have a stable TWRP custom recovery image for the Virgin Mobile Huawei Union (Y538), as well as a full official stock firmware package (Android 5.1.1 Lollipop) released by Huawei.

Not had a chance yet to upload the files, but I will have the free time early in the week coming. I'll go ahead and upload all stock firmware images for the Y538 from the official stock firmware package (e.g. /boot, /recovery, /system, /modem, /sbl1, etc), all from the last official firmware build released for the device. Any of these images may be installed via fastboot mode.
This is the stock recovery image for the Virgin Mobile/Boost Mobile/Sprint Huawei Union (y538-A1) from the stock Android 5.1.1 firmware package (EMUI v3.1), Build No. C237B173. Again, when I have a little more time I will upload all stock firmware images from this package. For those with an unlocked bootloader, these images can be installed via fastboot mode. For those with a locked bootloader, who need stock firmware to restore or repair their device, I'll also upload the UPDATE.APP/dload version, which can be installed using stock recovery and a hardware key sequence.

To install this recovery via fastboot, use the following command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Here is a complete extracted firmware package for stock Android 5.1.1, EMUI 3.1, Build No. C237B150, which is the build prior to C237B173. As such, after installation, your device will be prompted to install an OTA update.

I got a customer who wants to downgrade from Android 10 to 8. I know Samsung has anti-downgrade protection and you can't flash older firmware using Odin.
What about rooting the phone first though and flashing the Android 8 firmware using TWRP? Wouldn't that work?

You'd have to flash system, vendor and a kernel that can run Android 8. Just flashing the firmware straight up won't work

I don't need to downgrade bootloader, just need to flash the ROM which includes system, vendor and a working kernel.
I'm speaking strictly about running Android 8, not downgrading. So this method of downgrading to Oreo probably won't help you on your problem
