<<Solved>> Xperia Z5C and SIP accounts - they are back! - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi to everyone,
since 6.0.1 the SIP Account settings under the phone settings are no longer available. I'm using now stock rom 7.1.1 and my questions is if there is a mod that enables the SIP account settings. My phone is rooted. I tried the Lineage and Bernis ROM,. These settings are still there but these roms have problems with loosing data connection after a few minutes after boot up. Out of this case I'm looking for a solution the enable again the in build sip account settings.
Thanks in advance for any hint

Hi,
so I had some time and I figured out, why the sip account settings are not visible within Xperia Z5C and N 7.1.1.
When I looked through my phone I saw within the oem partition the folder overlay. This folder is used that a developer do not touch the original android files and he is able to store in this place configuration files that overrides the original settings. In this folder are two files stores (of course many more) that are relevant for the SIP settings, These two files I found are: android-res-284.akp and android-res-305.apk.. These files are holding the settings for the SIP menu entries. After I deleted these two files, bingo I have my SIP accounts back and everything is working great.
So if your phone is rooted, boot into TWRP, mount your SD-Card and the OEM and at first make a copy of your complete OEM. Than switch into the OEM folder - go the overlay and delete the two files from above. Reboot your phone and your SIP accounts are back.
I'm using a 5ZC N 7.1.1 with Kernel 5.23 from tobiaswaldvogel and Stock ROM 32.4.A.1.54.
Everything what you are doing - do it at your won risk Of course your phone must be rooted.

Template install copy for 4 phones

Hi,
I've just rehauled 4 HTC desire phones with the same ROM and now each are a blank canvass. I want to set up one phone and copy it as a template to the other 3 by restoring the image through recovery. I want to set up all apps using certain settings such as the launcher, power widgets etc. Problem is, if I simply do this and then restore, then the google account details of the first phone I set up will be used on all the phones I restore the image too. So I'm trying to think of a way to do a basic set up and copy to each phone and I'll always have this backup with no assigned account to reflash if any problems occur in the future. Then it can be just flashed, the phone owner will enter their google account details and away they go!
I've already "skipped" the step to put in the google account details on the template phone I'll be setting up, just looking for advice on how to go about doing this and if it's possible?
Any feedback appreciated!

[Q] Backup via ADB and restore to Secondary identical device

Hi guys, have been searching for a solution to this for days now.
Background
I've had an android application developed which I am now preparing to roll out to our customers. We are supplying the software pre-loaded on 2012 edition Galaxy Note 10.1 3G's.
So far I have rolled out approx 30 units. But this is where I need help. I currently take approx 15mins per tablet to set it up - For each one I:
Turning tablet on
Get past all the initial login screens, dropbox, samsung update, google account etc
Change about 10 settings (sound, display, lockscreen etc)
Delete all the default homescreens and set a new wallpaper (copy a file)
Install approx 4 applications
This is both error prone, and time consuming. So I've been looking for a way to speed things up. Initially tried root > nandroid backup > restore via recovery (not ideal) - then tried some backup apps Titanium, Settings backup etc which didn't seem to work (root required for most)
Help
My latest attempt is backing up and restoring via ADB. Things are finally looking positive down this route. I am able to do a full backup, and then a full restore to the second tablet. The apps are there, the wallpapers changed, the settings have mostly been applied (some missing) but the problem comes when I restart for the first time. Instantly bootloops and I cannot stop it without a factory reset.
I'm wondering if Anyone might have some clues for me as to what I can do to stop it boot looping. Could I backup JUST the necessary files, instead of a full backup (e.g. just settings, and my apps etc?) How do I do this? I'm not super flash with scripting but it would be ideal if I was able to automate the process a little.
Any help is Greatly appreciated at this point. Thanks

[SOLVED] "APN settings are not available for this user"

Hello everybody,
I have a rooted ASUS Zenfone 5 (A501CG), Android 5.0 Lollipop. After my last upgrade (OTA, by the way) I had to perform a factory reset for personal reasons. Since then, I cannot input my APN settings manually. I get the following message: "APN settings are not available for this user". Googling the internetz and searching through these very forums came to no avail. I tried a new factory reset; then, I recursively changed ownership and permissions for /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony (acording to a thread at StackExchange, these files should belong to user radio and group radio, with chmod of at least 660). I also chow'd/chmodded /config/telephony, just in case... Nothing has worked and I still get the same message, rendering my 3G/HSPA+ services unreachable.
I hope somebody has a solution for this!
Thanks in advance!
update: I tried to set my preferred APN manually using ADB, as per a tutorial posted to an Android.StackExchange Q&A called "How do I add an APN via ADB" (sorry, cannot post links yet ). My APN appears in the config as expected, but my data connection still doesn't work, and the same message appears when I try to open the APN settings menu.
another update
I have posted a question at Android.StackExchange. I tried every single procedure as suggested there, without positive results. So far, I have tried the following:
Factory reset
Changing permissions and ownership of telephony-related files
Adding preferred APN settings via ADB
Repeatedly rebooting the device with mobile data turned off and wifi turned on
I couldn't still get telephony files from CM12.1 into my Lollipop device (I don't know how unsafe it is and did not figure out how to install into VirtualBox and transfer the files afterwards).
This is a last and desperate bump to this thread, as there has been a month without access to mobile data and neither solution as proposed have worked so far.
Thanks for your attention!
solution!
sorry if I am necro-bumping this thread, but this time I have the best of reasons:
The latest stock ASUS update (v. 3.24.40.78) solves the problem.
I had to unroot my phone, apply both 5.3.3.3 and 5.2.2.2 downgrades (in this order), then I applied a FOTA upgrade (97Mb download, received and applied automatically). Then I could install the latest version (downloaded from ASUS website; uploaded via USB to phone's internal storage; unplugged USB and then the update could be applied automatically). APNs are available by default, I did not even have to input my APNs manually (as I had to do in prior versions).
Hope it helps anybody else facing the same issue!

Contacts lost after recovery with Android SDK!

yesterday I had to bring my samsung s6 edge, running on android 5.1.1 (non-rooted), to a samsung service point because the display was broken. I was wondering that they immediately repaired it and whyever made a factory reset. anyway, right before I made a backup with android sdk. afterwards I tried to flash the recovery and it seemed to be working. almost all files, apps and settings were back on the phone but the contacts. even the numbers in the dialling lists, only without names. the funny part is, that some of the names were displayed for e few seconds when I scrolled down the list. but then they immediately changed to numbers without names
I already extracted the backup file, but there is no file with this describtion: /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db
there is also no other backup of the contacts, such as vCard export, google sync, outlook sync, etc.
Is there any way to get my contacts back??
thank you!

Disable Slide to unlock and decativated settings at Android 8

Hello guy`s
i`m searching since days for a solution for my Android car system.
It has Android 8.1.0 installed, i can access the filesystem via adb root, the system itself is not rooted.
I have two issues with the device.
since a factory reset, when booting the system it does start into the "normal" slide to unlock screen, before the reset it booted directly into the Car GUI.
I searched also for disabling this, but only found how to reset or delete the passwords, and disable it on old Android 2.3 4.0 or 5, but not on Android 8.
it would now be easy said to just disable it at the system security settings under Display lock, but here is the second issue, the option seems to have been disabled by the manufacturor.
the same is with some other Option menu`s that are missing at settings.
i`m not that firm with android os itself, so i can`t finde the right command or modification to change this.
can someone help me how to disable slide to unlock, and how to reactivate deactivated system settings ?
sincerely Chri
